At the table we had cocktails, the Cheesesteak Hoagie, the Pulled Pork, some chicken Chunks and more. Table service was pretty good and the food was top notch. The food is very good, I can recommend the chili dogs. Served Toledo style: mustard, onion, and a beefy hot dog sauce without any beans. All atop a grilled bread to kick it up a notch above all the others. The top shelf quantity of the hot dogs themselves is such a welcome change also. Try out Swig! Really tasty food at an affordable price point. I'm gluten free so I couldn't enjoy an entire sandwich but the meat is so good, it makes up for the lack of bread! I got the corned beef and bacon sandwich and added pulled pork. That with some provolone cheese made a very nice plate of meat! And let me tell you, those candied jalapeños?! What a fantastic juxtaposition of sweet and spicy! Great crispy hand cut fries too. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the sweet potato tots. The texture was so strange--not soft enough inside, or perhaps too many little potato pieces? Either way it wasn't enjoyable. The patio was really nice but it was chilly the night I went. I had to really convince the server that we were called and wanted to turn on the heater. She said she would get in trouble if she turned it on since it's only October. We stopped in Perrysburg, a Toledo suburb, on our way home from a wedding in upstate New York. Driving in heavy tollway traffic was tiring, and we just wanted a drink and a light dinner. The hotel, just off the tollway, gave us a list of restaurants nearby, and many were on the same street in downtown Perrysburg. The first couple were not open (pandemic?) but Swig was hopping. We avoided a wait for a table by sitting at the bar. We are older, but the crowd was quite varied... younger folks in shorts and T-shirts, middle aged couples a bit dressier. Geezers like us blended in. The young woman bartender was very busy but also obviously very competent. I ordered a beer; Sherry a gin and tonic. The menu is simple but had some local flavor. Toledo is home to many people with Polish heritage, so the menu included kielbasa and other sausages. I love Italian sausage, so that was my choice. Sherry had a grilled cheese sandwich. Yawn, you say. She would tell you that the combination of Provolone, Vermont cheddar and cream cheese was the best cheese sandwich she ever had! As we ate, a middle-aged couple moved next to us at the bar and asked what brought us to Perrysburg. We explained our road trip and commented on how nice the small suburb appeared. I mentioned that years ago I had spent five months working in Toledo at WNWO-TV, but had never been to Perrysburg. The couple laughed when I described Toledo as "Detroit, but without all the charm." They were friendly and wished us safe travels back home to Wisconsin. Because we are older, hearing is difficult in noisy bars. Swig had good food, good service, and a lively atmosphere. We've been here quite a few times and the food is always good. A great selection of beers and live music on the weekends rounds out the place. My husband and I were in town for the weekend and decided on here for lunch. We had chicken chunks with Jerk and mild sauce w/ranch, cheese curds, a coney, and fries. The sauces for the wings all tasted homemade. They were delicious! The breading on the chunks was perfect. They were crispy but not a ton of extra coating. The cheese curds were good, a little salty but when you dip them in ranch they are better. They make their own hot dogs and sausages and you can tell. We both agreed it was the best hot dog weve ever had. My husband loved the fries. My favorite part was the fresh squeezed lemonade. They give you a very large portion for $3.50 and they come in cute little jars. The server was a little slow but she also had more customers than I feel she should have. Taking my grandmother out for her birthday, we decided Swig would be a good change of pace. My grandma typically eats very healthy, so the notion of sausages sounded like a real treat! We started with the hot Feta dip which was well received. It's listed as spicy but I didn't detect any heat. Regardless, it's really satisfying. Next up we shared a Chicago dog and a Cleveland dog. The kitchen cut them in half for us which made things really easy. As a life long connoisseur of Chicago dogs, Swig's really didn't live up to my expectations. All of the toppings looked to be in place but I didn't detect any celery salt and the dog itself was small and on the soft side. Amazingly, my grandmother has made it almost 90 years and had never experienced a Chicago dog. She loved it. As for the Cleveland dog, it was my first and I enjoyed the texture of the bacon but I would have liked more sauce as it was a bit on the dry side. Following our hotdogs we jumped into a sausage platter that we both thoroughly enjoyed. We tried the Andouille, Kielbasa and Italian. Each one was uniquely different and spot on in flavors and seasoning. The deep fried pierogi came across a little like a sports bar appetizer but the sweet & sour cabbage and sauerkraut were deeeeeeeelicious. Couple of things to note... we weren't expecting the live entertainment. The acoustics in the space made it difficult to have a conversation which ended up cutting our birthday celebration a little short. Also, they call themselves a charcuterie but oddly do not offer a charcuterie board on the menu. Missed opportunity and kind of odd messaging if you ask me. One of the main reasons I would go to Swig was for their pierogis. I'm from Cincinnati and when I come to Toledo (about once a month) I go out of my way to make sure we stop by Swig so I can get my fix of their amazing pierogis. But for some reason they were pulled off the menu and are occasionally put on the board as a "special". Yet somehow every time I'm in town they never have them as their special. Swig please do all your loyal customers a favor and put the pierogis back on the menu. You can get loaded fries practically anywhere. Your pierogis are what made you unique and kept me coming back. Until you have pierogis back on the menu or I can time my trips just right to when they are a limited "special" I unfortunately will have to find another place to go. UPDATE*** After posting the original review the owner responded like a 12 year old. Instead of taking some constructive criticism he became extremely defensive. The irony is we ended up going in and read his hateful response while in the restaurant!! Then deleted the comments and didn't even apologize. I tried Swig again, and got much better service this time. The Scotch egg was truly outstanding. The sausage component was top notch. It comes with a delicious cranberry honey mustard dipping sauce (Swig's house dressing, as per my waitress) and a mini salad. Awesome appetizer. The Chicago dog must have just finished swimming in cold water, because its wiener was, in a word, tiny. You don't get much for $3.50, but the flavor was very good. The relish was really tasty. I ate here for lunch on a Saturday in October with my wife and kiddo. I debated writing a review because I saw how the owner reacts if it is negative. So I will just say this. I found the food (burgers) to be average for the price. A positive note, I thought the fries were very good. Our waitress was not very nice to us at all. She eye rolled me twice. We've been twice. Food was always great. Had the same server both times. He was not so great. Very condescending with me and my husband but very attentive to my 20 something son. Brought my husband the wrong drink on trip number 1 and made him feel as if he had ordered it incorrectly (the others at the table all heard him order it correctly). The 2nd time was just this week. Again, same server. Again, quite attentive to my son and condescending to me (mom). I ordered the Hake sandwich. He corrected my pronunciation and basically laughed at me like I was an uncouth idiot (first time for everything, hon!). As it turned out, my pronunciation was correct and his was way off.
