I've been here plenty of times, as I used to live across the street. I would drop in to grab food or meet friends. The food was always good and generally the people were very nice too. However, the last time I went we were cold shouldered by the bartenders. It was a week day night about 7 people on one side of the bar other than ourselves and 2 bartenders... I am a bartender myself so I know how it feels to be behind the bar. My dad had come down to hangout with me and my boyfriend and we sat there for 23 minutes with no service. When my dad finally called out to the male bartender who was serving somebody who had walked in quite a while after us the bartender rolled his eyes and still didn't come to check on us in the 5 minutes we waited before just leaving. Not a great experience and also not sure why we were treated that way as we didn't cause any issues that night prior to being shunned. Mediocre service and okay food. I sat for a few minutes while my husband was in the restroom and neither the woman or guy bartender acknowledged that I existed. When my husband joined me, we suddenly were asked what we would like to drink. There is no service with a smile here. It seems like this is the type of place that exists just to serve the various sports events nearby. There's nothing warm about the people working here. When our food came out my mother in laws meal was not right at all. After that was correct everything tasted great. I got the potato soup and half a turkey club. I guess there's a reason I don't go here often. The food is hit or miss. Unfortunately, today was a miss. Ordered the Reuben egg rolls which were just ok. They were kinda of mushy just like the fish, my first bite I did find several large bones, so be careful. The service was average. No one working seemed too excited to be there and we ended up having to move to the bar after sitting for awhile at a table with no service. I'm in no rush to go back when there are several really excellent restaurants within walking distance. It did seem pretty clean and tidy for being mostly a bar on the weekend. Management might need to consider some kind of dress code for employees. It appears you can wear whatever you want and some of the choices are pretty inappropriate. read more

Ed Beczynski My family and I were planning a special event to Honor my father's induction into The Toledo Hockey Hall Fame on Saturday, Jan 26th. Blarneys Pub was recommended so I called in October and spoke to Bill Kline and explained our situation, and even though you don't usually take reservations on Saturdays, especially during Walleye games Bill said he would " be honored to". Apparently the night before arrival there was a gas leak in the building and Bill took the time to notify me promising to keep me apprised and followed up personally calling me two times with messages going from it looks promising to the eventual green light. The food was great, our server was a champ, and the ambiance was first-rate as all sixteen of us enjoyed a most memorable night in Downtown Toledo thanks to Bill, his staff, and Blarney's dedication to hiring obviously the BEST PEOPLE. I stopped in here for a quick lunch. They were getting ready for what appears to be a massive Saint Patrick's Day party. They had a bunch of tents set up outside and it appeared that they had taken over the streets. I simply had an iced tea and a buffalo chicken salad, to which I had to ask the server to go back and get some more tomatoes for my salad as it appears they either forgot for Whatever reason. there was a pretty good portions chicken on my salad, put some hard boiled egg on my salad as well to which they did not charge me. Overall, this place looks pretty neat but it is right smack in the middle of a bombed-out war zone formerly known as the city of Toledo. the restaurant itself looks pretty cool, the bathrooms are clean, and the server was nice and attentive. The Blarney is an adequate "Irish" themed pub and restaurant in downtown Toledo. My sense is they are better at full staff during non-COVID times. The food we pre-ordered by telephone is at best mediocre at near fine dining prices. The beer selection is ok, but pretty pricey compared to similar bars. Finally, as a frequent visitor of Irish pubs all over Ireland I would say this is on par with mediocre Irish bars in many US cities. I can't say this looks anything like a pub in Ireland, but the regular customers seem to be very happy. If I were a regular my perspective might be different. I guess I would return if I were to return to downtown Toledo, but I can't imagine going out of my way like I did tonight. read more

A friend and I met for lunch today at The Blarney Irish Pub. Arriving at 11:30am, we were some of the first patrons in the restaurant. A friendly waitress immediately approached as we were sitting down at a table (which is no mean feat given how snugly the backless bar stools fit under the tables in the window front), and took our drink orders after pointing us to the on-table menus. When she returned with our drinks, I inquired about the "ask your server for the daily special" listed on the menu, but our waitress indicated the restaurant no longer has daily specials as they are in the process of revamping the menus. Instead I ordered the Irish Burger with a side of coleslaw and a Coca-Cola. In total my bill came to $10.88 before tax and tip, which feels pretty typical for lunch downtown. While waiting for our food, we had the opportunity to take in the restaurant's awesome atmosphere and authentic Irish pub décor. The restaurant started filling up with the lunch rush, so we were pleasantly surprised with how quickly our food arrived. My Irish burger was excellent, with the ideal melding of a perfectly cooked hand-made patty paired with expertly sautéed sauerkraut, swiss cheese, thousand island dressing, and a fresh tomato slice on top of crisp lettuce. While the coleslaw was not the best I ever had downtown, it had a good flavour and I liked the large portion size. Additionally I really appreciated how our waitress kept checking back with us, bringing me two more refills on my soda. Unfortunately the stellar customer service we received during our first 55 minutes was quite different from the lackluster attention we received during our final 20 minutes in the restaurant. Being mindful of the time, when we were nearly finished eating, we asked for our bills. In contrast to our previously speedy service, it took 10 minutes for our waitress to bring the bills. Then it took another disappointingly long ten minutes for our waitress to cash us out (the timestamp on my bill was 12:32, while the time on my credit card receipt was 12:44). Overall I really liked both the restaurant in general and the food in specific and would like to give it a Very Good rating, however the 20 minutes it took to get our bill and cash out makes me drop the score down to just Good. read more

When I arrived for a Monday lunch the Blarney was about 1/3 full. Still took me a while to get spotted, even though I was the only one seated at the bar, or at least on one side of it. Once my server came, my beer and sandwich followed shortly. Got the Reuben, which I'd say is one of the best I've had in a while. THICK sliced brisket with a nice prickle of kraut and plenty of swiss melted on top. The grilled marble rye was not greasy. Came with a small side of fries that were a little limp but still enjoyable. On a busy night you'd probably have a better chance of getting them hot from the fryer. There were about 15 beers on draft, though surprisingly few local/regional selections...just a couple form Great Lakes. Otherwise, Sierra Nevada/Sam Adams/Deschutes dominated. This is not a fatal flaw, though (Remember not that many years ago when you got excited to see Sam Adams on tap?). I didn't sample it, but the whiskey list looked good, with the drams very reasonably priced. Dont get downtown very often, but I would wander back here when I do. read more
