Similar things have happened before but only with that pro shop worker. Extremely frustrating to be treated how I was. Long Review: I wanted to hit a few rounds after not having done so in a while, and just happened to have shoes and my bag in the trunk...so I pulled in at lunch time. Turns out they have a twilight special between 12-2! Only $11 to play! And since it was so cheap, I just sprung for a $10 cart too! :) Nothing special about this course; it's got all the basics you need: a putting green, a bathroom and pull or hand carts. Look, it's a municipal course, so you're not gonna get some PGA-ready course. It's unkept by the city! You get the basics, you get your golf in - even bypass the blue hairs who are walking slow - and have your fun. Case closed. Leave your expectations at home, and you'll have a good time. 3 stars.

Be prepared to wait a while for each hole especially on the weekends! We visited here once when they were doing a TaylorMade fitting event which was very awesome (we signed up in advance). They have an amazing restaurant right next to the course, Marcerro, which is absolutely delicious. They are also building dozens of glamping style, eco-tents, on the hill which are going to be incredible. Definitely a beautiful golf course in SLO with a lot to offer!

That being said this review is for feedback not for criticism so please start by training your young staff to understand how much they impact our experience. For example, the last 3 times I've hear and order over priced beverages and food I have never received a single utensil or napkin. It feels like no one here was ever trained how to interact. The guy at the front didn't make any eye contact and has been on his phone for the last hour. Just asking, "please do better", as we're paying g for an experience and you're part of it. Thank You.

Both courses were in good shape and the greens were supple and receptive. We were one of the few groups on the course due to the weather. Still the course was fully staffed and welcoming to our party. Amenities from the club barn, café/restaurant, and pro-shop are well kept and customer service was solid. Overall Monarch Dunes was my favorite of the 4 rounds played over the weekend. I'm definitely looking forward to returning in the near future!

It's an OK place for beginners though with a few water hazards so you may end up losing a few balls and that might be something to consider, but just bring a few sleeves of Kirklands and you won't have to worry :-) The upside is that it seems like most of the people that have been playing there when I've been there have been super casual and friendly so nobody's judging you. Just doesnt seem like that kind of place, very chill. Operations wise, the greens are pretty slow compared to many courses but not too far off from the somewhat hidden practice green out behind the clubhouse/pro-shop, so if you are used to faster surfaces definitely take some practice putts back there first to adjust. It's not a huge course but there are a couple of holes that are at 200+ yards (rearmost tee) so bring a driver or at least a fairway wood. Carts are available but I don't know if they have pushcarts to rent. Overall it's a fun place for the beginner or intermediate player. If your handicap is under 8-9. Maybe head to Monarch dunes.

My friends and I came here just for the driving range and, wow, this thing is tore up... AND, it's…read morenot on the beach. It's in a small valley near the beach. There's only nine or ten driving mats here and all them of are either falling apart, lumpy, or laying on a slant so your ball won't stay put. The range balls here match the mats. A lot of them had chunks missing and large cracks. A large bucket of balls cost $10, but I'd say onlty about 75% of the balls are worth hitting. This is an iron only range, no drivers allowed. Which is odd because they have the space for driver shots. I did hit one driver shot and got in trouble for it. The staff here wasn't the friendliest. In my opinion, avoid the range and just give the course a try.

There was two babies and a mother deer out on the driving range and I went into the pro shop to ask them to send one of their boys out to shew them off the range and close to the range deck. The older gentleman told me no. I told him but people are almost hitting them and young high schoolers hitting balls we're just laughing and trying to aim for them. He said no. I told him that's absolutely inhumane and a lady told me that last week a baby was killed for the same reason. This is sickening to me. We had not hit one of our balls from our bucket and I told him I wanted a refund. He said he didn't know how to do that and if I wanted to stand behind all the other people then maybe he can see if he can. He was rude and absolutely a cold individual. Broke my heart to think people saw a baby deer killed last week on that range and I was trying to get help for a deer with two tiny babies so close to the range that the teens were hitting right at the' and barely making it past them and not one person working would do anything but laugh. I'm honestly sickened by the humans that work at this golf course. We have spent so much money golfing there and to think they are so cruel. These deer were not just on the golf course they were right on the range and close enough for people to barely miss or not miss. I'm just sad and heartbroken by this. And to think a gal said a baby was killed last week in the same manner. Could you image taking your kids to practice hitting balls and then seeing that. It's sickening.
