I went for a fish fry lunch and had a very enjoyable experience. It's got a really nice pub vibe and the fish, fries and coleslaw I had were superb! I actually liked the slaw so much I ordered a separate bowl full. The fish was flaky and moist and the fries were done to perfection. Our waitress was charming and answered our questions about other, non-swimming entrees for the others in my party. Despite ordering at lunchtime, we got our food quickly, which was a shame...I could've spent hours there soaking in the warmth and pub-ness. They have a varied menu and their portions pretty much guarantee a to-go box. Going there on a cold, snowy day made this cozy eatery even better. Wish we could've sat inside to fully experience the atmosphere but we had our dog and they were more than happy to allow him to sit with us on the patio which was nice! The food was GREAT! My husband loved his ribs - they were a mix between a Carolina and a KC bbq sauce which is so unique. Delicious and fall off the bone. My tuna steak was cooked perfectly (I love when they consider your preferences and ask rare or med rare - not everywhere does that!). Went for lunch on a Wednesday and the place was surprisingly busy, but plenty of room to sit down and enjoy. They had a good number of specials, including hot dogs in a few different styles and prime rib. The sandwich was excellent and service was attentive, but I knew that before going here...it's been one of my favorite spots in town for years. Absolutely incredible. It's tiny and there's no reservation system, so be prepared to wait! We were able to get in at the bar and order fries while we waited for our table, and the bartenders were seriously the best. They were both so, so nice. Visited swingin door again to finally try their baked cod. I was skeptical as baked cod can be a hit or miss. Wow!! Was i surprised. Best baked cod in Milwaukee hands down. Cod is flaky with a Delicious char broiled smokey flavor and it is phenomenal. I ordered it with a side of potato pancakes. Best potato pancakes i have had. So crispy and perfect portioning. Tried out Swingin Door on a Saturday afternoon. It would have been a 30 minute wait, but they had seating outdoors. It was a little brisk, so they turned on the heaters for us. Service was quick and our waitress gave us a lot of recommendations. I got the sriracha chicken sandwich with brussel sprouts. The sandwich was great, but the real star was the brussel sprouts. They were roasted and had candied pecans and drizzled with an aioli sauce. The sauce really brought it home for me. It's easy to mess up sprouts, but they did a good job. My friend got the chicken tenders and while she said they tasted good, they were more like cutlets than tenders. I wouldn't really dock a star for that, it's just their take on tenders. But know if you order that, it may not be the shape you're expecting. read more

Stopped in on a Saturday nite based on reviews. Hostess, who was an idiot, told us it would be 45 minutes to an hour but the bar is open seating if we want to have a drink. After about 5 minutes, 2 places opened up so we sat. Then the hostess came over and said a gentleman, who had just walked in, wanted to sit at the bar to "enjoy the food experience". What?!?! My wife said we'll just eat at the bar. Hostess....Oh, never mind then. In the meantime, new people coming in were seated within 10 minutes (they don't accept reservations). Since there obviously wasn't much of a wait, I asked the hostess if she took our pager. She said yes, cuz we insisted on sitting at the bar. We only sat there cuz this genius said it would be an hour. Anyway, we ordered food and some drinks and waited....and waited....and waited. The couple next to us asked us how they got their food before us. The bartender, who I really liked, overheard this and disappeared, came back and said, I'm so sorry, I forgot to put in ur order. You've been staring right at us for any hour!!! Meanwhile, I've been stuck talking to the drunkest guy at the bar we've ever seen, continue getting served gin and tonics and bothering anyone who made the mistake of making eye contact. I've been here before so I just assumed I would have a good lunch on a weekend. I ordered a BLT and the bacon was wayyy overcooked and hard to eat. My daughter had the chicken tenders. What was served was not a chicken tender. They take chicken breast, pound it super flat and then bread it, so they're huge, flat and overcooked. (I should have taken a picture. They should just be off the menu.) The only time our server checked on us is when I asked for a box (why I don't know other than wasting it seemed worse) and the check the were not that crowded when we were there, so I don't know what the issue was, but very disappointing visit. read more

Just yesterday, I saw this restaurant featured in the top 100 restaurants in the Midwest here on Yelp. When I saw that it was a block away from where I was working today, I definitely had to try it for lunch. It did not disappoint! Atmosphere is really cool and old-school and the food was terrific. I got the crispy chicken sandwich with fries and they were both delicious. I especially like the high-quality. The chicken was tender and juicy with a great crunch from the cornflake breading. I was in town just for the weekend and looking for a poplar place to try out and found this one. I ask the waitress what was there popular item there and what she think i should try for a first timer. She recommended the Reuben with the caramelized Brussels sprouts. I have to say the Reuben was delicious great bread very tender corn beef. The Brussels was also good but for me it was alittle bit to grease. Best Fish in Milwaukee! You really can't beat Swingin' Door on a Friday night. Small, but mighty supper club vibes with a killer Wisconsin Old Fashioned all located in the center of downtown. Their baked cod is the best I've ever had, with the cajun spices. Always cooked beautifully and so fresh. Don't skip their Vermouth Carrots either! Came for dinner and it's still amazing! Very consistent, which is key for a great place like this. The buffalo chicken dip isn't my favorite, but my husband loves it so he gets it all the time. This was my first time trying the cod fish fry and it was great! The fish was cooked perfectly with a very thin light batter that didn't taste oily at all. They let me add on a couple shrimp as well (4 shrimp for $6) which feels worth it to me cause they tasted great! The Cole slaw is fresh and not too heavy on the mayo. Cool old school vibe bar. Like others say, this place gets packed on Fridays so get there early. I went at 11:30 and by noon it was jam packed. They have different specials and food menu.
