I scheduled an appointment and let them know I had an expired Groupon. With Groupons, if they expire before you have a chance to use them the original purchase price can used anytime. I am visiting from out of town for work, but come to Seattle often for business & pleasure. I'm sad there is not an official "dry bar" in Seattle. But I wanted to review this bar, particularly because I do experience the luxury of what a true "Dry Bar" should be. My stylist was incredible. She asked me what I was thinking for a hairstyle, I showed her a picture and she was so excited to do it... Ps. She nailed it, I got so many compliments on it already and I haven't even arrived to my party! The front desk on the other hand, had 3 people circulating it, all gossiping about something rather. Barely made eye contact when I went to check out, and then didn't even compliment me on my hair... Which you should ALWAYS do at a salon (basic 101), and didn't offer me a coffee or water when I arrived. I have to say my hairdresser though was so lovely and made great conversation , asked questions and was engaging. So for that reason I'm giving the salon a 4 star. The rest of the workers there, I didn't see anyone smile the entire time. Management, give your other employees basic manners training ASAP. read more

I'm giving this a 2/5 stars, I would give it a 1 star but they did refund my money and offered for me to come back in and have it re-done I just was on a time crunch to get it done so I couldn't go back. I came in to get my hair done for my holiday work party during my lunch. I came in with two pictures, asked the hair stylist her opinion, she didn't really have one, so I just picked one. She didn't really ask any other questions. I told her I have fine thin hair and that the only way for it to hold a curl is to use a wand and she proceeded to use a flat iron. I paid 40 dollars for something i could have done and made it look better, I'm very disappointed, with the styling but very pleased with the customer service. Very disappointing experience. Had daughters hair and makeup done there a couple of weeks ago, paid $100+. The makeup was caked on thick and the hair updo fell out within 20 minutes. The staff was somewhat indifferent and seemed annoyed at the job. Our gal barely uttered a word to my daughter. After we left, went home and removed all the makeup and had to redo her hair. I have been a Swink client forever. Since they've changed ownership (within the last 6 months) quality at the downtown location had really gone down hill. I had a blowout yesterday where the receptionist called me to confirm my appointment gave me the wrong time. Once I was there I was 15 mins late because of the misinformation. The stylist refused to engage me so we sat in silence for an hour. I was coming back from a foreign country so my hair was extra tangled from hard water but the stylist proceeded to practically rip half my hair out trying to get my hair combed out. The blow out lasted maybe 4 hours before it went totally flat and my hair can hold a blow out from Drybar a day or two. It's such a waste of almost $50. I've had a handful of increasingly lackluster stylings by Swink...this was the cherry on top...they don't even provide a parking option anymore and the lot next to them is full day only, at least on the weekends. I really hope they find a way to improve their service levels or the way they compensate they're stylists because clearly one blow out isn't worth their time for end to end service. read more

Several friends recommended Swink to me, and since relocating to Seattle a few months ago, I wanted to give it a try before a business trip. I booked a Blowout with a Dry Style. I walked into the store, and wasn't greeted. The male receptionist was on the phone at the time; a female was stocking product near the front but didn't acknowledge me, so I just helped myself to a seat. The male receptionist said a pleasant hello after finishing his call & told me my stylist was running behind, which ended up being 15 minutes. Ashley was friendly, but the chair was not cleaned after the previous customer, so I sat in long strands of brunette hair. I didn't feel like the shampoo had a scent at all (I'm usually obsessed with salon products) and while the blowout was fine, I had told her I wanted my hair straight & smooth since I normally flat iron it. She said she could accomplish "that look" with a brush during the blowout, but I left there feeling displeased, and with wavy hair. I was only charged for a blowout, but returned home to flat iron the look myself. Overall, just mediocre, and it really didn't save me time. read more

Maybe more like 2.5.....This is review is based on hairstyling services only for 2 weddings (mine and my MOH) Like many others I wanted to love this place so badly! The Good: First off, I will say that I had an amazing experience with Cassidy/Cass, one of the hairstylist - she alone deserves 5 stars! She is great, gave me exactly what i wanted so I felt awesome on my wedding day and she was super fast to boot! She also did a great job on my MOH's hair...One other bridesmaid's hair was very nice too (don't remember the stylist). So 3 girls out of 10 girls that day total had great hair at a great price! The Ok/Fine: 4 girls / 10girls - got their hair with just long curls which turned out fine, nothing special. (so that = 7/10 girls that were passable enough which bumped it up to 2.5 stars) The Bad: That said it is all down hill from there.... For my wedding the remaining 3 girls: the stylists either did not listen to my friends about what they wanted or were not skilled enough to where the bobby pins were falling out by the time they returned to the hotel 4 minutes away (where *I* then had to fix their hair!!) One girl got a pouf thingy (where you twist your bangs in the middle of your head to make a pouf and bobby pin it) with the rest of the hair thrown into a messy bun - this is how i wear my hair to the gym!!! And I can do it in a minute...was NOT worth $30+gratuity for that. Unnecessary stress on my big day because of course I want all the people I care about to feel good about themselves. I was already gone back to the hotel so I didn't know all this was going on until they came back and they didn't want to complain because we were on a tight schedule. I thought it may have been a fluke and my MOH was so pleased with her hair and my hair and the prices that she decided to book them 7 months later for her own wedding. Not only did they jack up the prices (I think I may have been one of the first big wedding groups they had done) but myself and another bridesmaid had a TERRIBLE experience. We both said we wanted "loose, low, messy buns". Both of our stylists proceed to do high updo's with tight curls, with my hair parted in a stick straight line and super flat in the front. NOT CUTE. We both complained and said "we'd like it a lot looser and lower" - to which both of our stylists for some reason though that meant to put MORE bobbi pins in. Finally we were running out of time so we both were basically like it's fine we don't have anymore time to fix it we have to go now. We were falling behind schedule and had to get back so we didn't really feel like we had time to complain. Back at the hotel we completely took out all of the bobbi pins and I redid my own hair and the other bridesmaids hair. I wish I had taken before and after pics! but it was too stressful that day....Also, they went crazy on her jr. bridesmaid's hair - because it was very short the only thing the stylist could think of doing was curl it super tight. She looked like shirley temple and her mom ended up combing it out back at the hotel. I don't know how they have such a huge spectrum between their stylists skill levels and why the stylists don't do what you ask! Swink gives the impression of a young, hip place to get your hair done so I don't understand the taste level of some of the stylists. I may return in the future for a less-stressful event, however it seems like I might as well save my money and do it myself the way I want it the first time. I went in to have my hair done for a wedding reception 5 hours later. I told the stylist what I wanted, how long it needed to hold, and she stuck a few bobby pins in, sprayed my hair with three spurts of hair spray, and said it would hold if I didn't "mess with it". It was falling down before I got home. Definitely not worth the $50 I paid for my "up do". read more

On our wedding day in July, 2015, we booked out Swink so 11 members of our family and friends could get their hair & makeup done before the ceremony (my longtime hairstylist was doing my hair & makeup, otherwise I would definitely have had my hair & makeup done at Swink!). They had set out a wonderful lunch for us, complete with champagne! My "girls" returned looking beyond fabulous, and raved about how great the stylists were at Swink. This review is for the U-Village location, which doesn't seem to have a Yelp page of its own yet. After a great experience at the Braid Bar in New York City, I was wanting another week of low-maintenance French braids in my hair. I was helping a friend pack for a move, and she offered to take me to get some done as a thank you gift. When she called the salon, she said we both wanted braids. The receptionist said "Oh, a dry style?" which to us indicated that 1-2 simple braids would fall under their $35 dry style rate. However, when we turned up at the salon, we were told that braids were considered "updos" and would be $50 instead. Since we were already there, we went ahead, but the stylist who'd been assigned to my friend wasn't able to do a fishtail braid. She was moved to a second stylist who spent less than 10 minutes putting her hair in a braid that, unfortunately, started coming out as soon as we walked out of the salon. My experience was better, and I was happy with it leaving the salon. The good: both stylists were personable, I left happy with my style at the time though I'm downgrading to one star, since it's deteriorating after less than 24 hours. The bad: the receptionist should have been much clearer when we were booking about what we wanted and what the rates would be -- not to mention making sure she asked what EXACTLY we wanted to be sure we were paired with a stylist who knew what she was doing. $50 is way too much for a simple set of braids. And if you're paying $50, it should be on something that will actually LAST. read more

After seeing the owner comment I'd like to confirm that we were not offered a retrial or any kind of "make it right" option and that I watched the makeup artist like a hawk and am 100% positive that she went from hair styling another girl to my fiancee's makeup to my makeup with no hand washing, change of brushes, hand sanitizer or brush cleaning. The powder brushes have powder in the handle and roll up, so I don't even know how you'd properly wash it between clients, and it went right back into its slot after, not a designated area for dirty brushes. Apparently the reason the stylists are so bad is that for a "style bar" rather than a salon there is no regulation since they aren't actually cutting or coloring hair. read more

I got my hair and makeup done with a bridal party. Makeup looked great and the artist was so sweet, but hair looked like something I could do myself. And it wasn't even blown out! Just threw some dry shampoo in there. So unimpressive. If I wanted to not wash my hair and run a hot tool in it, I would have done it myself and saved $60+. read more

I came here on my birthday to get a dry style and makeup done. I was with Amanda and she did a great job! Recommended that I didn't wash my hair to keep my curls for the night (my hair is notoriously stubborn and likes to remain straight at all times) and it worked! I even managed to have a little bit of curl left over for the next day. I was most worried about my makeup. Let's be honest, you can wear too much makeup. It's especially noticeable in Seattle where most ladies like to look au natural. (I've been other places where it is QUITE the opposite). It was perfect! My complexion looked great and it wasn't hard to transition from day to night for my birthday celebration. I'm not giving 5 stars because they messed up my friend's birthday surprise. She called ahead and asked them to put it on her cc (they assured her it would work), and I went to pay, and it was just confusing. The lady at the desk was confused, and I ended up paying for it, not knowing my friend expected it to be a treat. Overall, great quick service and outcome. Especially for the price! read more

I would rate this higher but my last visit was just eh. I normally go to swink to get my eyelashes done. Last time that I went in for a 60 minute refill appointment it turned out to be an hour and a half. Which would be fine with me if I would of had prior knowledge knowing that it would take that long because I only paid for parking for so long and was so convinced that I got a parking ticket when I looked at the time when the Allison was finished with me. Anyways, she was really harsh with me. Several times, I remember her tugging on my lashes to the point where I did tear up. When she was done she had me try to open my eyes, they were basically stuck from all the excess glue! Worst part is my lashes don't even look amazing and it's been only 4 days and I'm calling in somewhere else to get a fill. Only reason why this is three stars is because of the other times I had been in and those times were aright. read more

June transformed my face by helping me restore my brows back to their natural shape (first brow artist I love and I've been to many people on the west coast!). And, June did the make up for my sister's wedding. Everyone loved their make up and looked gorgeous. Not only is June brilliant at brows and make up, but she is kind, caring, and generous. I was recently in Seattle for a girls weekend. I do not do my own hair - I rely on blowouts and having access to so many blow bars in NYC, I can be picky. My appointment was with Olga. I didn't need pictures or a look book - she knew exactly what I meant and ran with it. My hair held great on a hot (90 degree) day and an evening at a concert. If you want to get a feather in your hair, this is a great place to get it. The people are very friendly. It takes about 1 minute to get a feather put in your hair. The feathers are pretty expensive, and the minumum amount of feathers you can get is three. Each feather costs 10 dollars. The girls were all super sweet, knew their stuff, were very professional and took the time to 1- find out exactly what I wanted. While initially excited about a dry bar opening in Seattle, I was disappointed with Swink. The girls were definitely nice, the decor cute but after listening to what I described (flowy waves, done with a curling iron) they repeatedly used a flatiron which gives much rounder smaller curls than what I'd expected. Having had my hair done in large barrel curls for years I was disappointed that they didn't even seem to have the option of a curling iron. After a couple of appointments I found a stylist at their University Village location that I am completely addicted to and definitely wish she'd been my introduction to the business. read more

That was my 2nd time going back there and it turned out the same experience as my last visit. The staff seemed to only care about themselves and not the customers. For my wedding this summer, me and 3 bridesmaids visited Swink downtown. My "practice" session went well, I went to the Beyonce concert that night and my hair and make-up looked great and stay put the whole evening. I decided that my make-up wasn't quite amped up enough though, and my stylist did a great job making it a bit darker for the big day. Scheduling the appointments for my wedding day was felt far more complicated than it needed to, however in the end the bridal coordinator was able to move some things around for us and it all worked out. I've been really excited to get eyelash extensions, and came here after a bad experience somewhere else. Swink was able to get me fixed up after that, and I've since been back for about 5 extension fills. Two of the technicians I've met (Cheyenne and Mandy, who's since moved), were great. The front desk service sometimes seems chaotic or slightly unprofessional (fake sweet, or simply not enough staff working). It doesn't seem like the front desk staff are empowered to make any business decisions at all, they have to contact a manager over an instant messenger, who isn't there, and I've had to call back to get direct answers. The rooms aren't private, so you can hear other conversations going on, which doesn't really bother me. I'd be interested in their hair services, but with shorter hair, I'm not sure they have any styles that actually suit me. One thing that seems odd to me, though, is that everywhere else I talked to about extensions said I would need fills 3-4 weeks apart, and Swink recommends every two weeks. With these eyelashes, I have barely been able to go the two weeks (even after the first one, which was one of their 90 minute fills, the technician in UVillage said I "barely had any left"). That being said, I don't think I'm going to continue getting the service, because I expected to be able to go longer before having to come back. Oh well :/ read more

I recently had lash extensions put on for the first time at Swink. It's been two weeks since my appointment and every lash extension that has fallen out has been attached to one of my real eyelashes. I am loosing real eyelashes left and right. I tried calling and left a voicemail and still haven't heart back. I would not recommend anyone to go here for eye lash extensions. I booked makeup and hair appointments at Swink's downtown location for myself and my mother for a gala fundraiser last month. I was not disappointed! I have very, very short hair that doesn't need styling, so I booked a makeup appointment. I was SO pleased with the results of my makeup! It definitely gave me a dramatic look for evening that I would have been hard pressed to achieve for myself. The addition of glam lashes completed my look. My mother is 73 years old and definitely wanted a different look than me. Swink mastered a tailored, flat-ironed look for her (yes, she has long, gray tresses at 73 years old!) and sophisticated, more subtle makeup for her. She looked fabulous! I was impressed that Swink was able to achieve two different, but equally stylish looks for myself and my Mom! And on top of that, I brought my 9-year-old daughter along with us as she was curious and Swink even fit her in for an updo. That completely made her day! I would highly recommend Swink if you need and extra boost for a special occasion and since our function was downtown, we couldn't beat the location! read more

i love this place. quick tip: if you have lots and lots of thick hair, wash it yourself the night before or morning of your appointment. it takes forever for them to wash and dry your hair before styling, so they have to (understandably) charge you double for the appointment. this place is awesome though. read more
