She listened to what I wanted, was personable and professional. Bri gave my long hair a wavy dry style. I wear natural looking makeup day to day, and requested a natural look with a smokey eye. Swink Style bar is SUCH a fun experience!! Great ambiance, very girly, and I wish I could go there every day for my dose of confidence and happiness. A friend and I made appointments in advance for a dry style and a make-up application for my birthday party and couldn't have looked better or had more fun! HIGHLY recommended for any occasion to put a little spring in your step and a little glam in your look. I had Danelle for my makeup application and she was incredible! It was my first time ever getting make-up professionally done, and I was a bit scared that I would look not like myself, and the make-up wouldn't be as good as if I did it myself. Boy, was I wrong! She used a bold smoky eye that I'm sure I couldn't recreate by myself in a million years, but also asked the right questions to make sure what she was applying was in-line with my expectations. Wish I would have brought in my own fake eyelashes, but that had some on-hand for me to buy instead. I seriously felt so beautiful all night because my makeup was so stellar! Danelle is my make-up artist for life! I had Karen for my dry style and she was super fast and super fun! She used dry shampoo to quickly wash my hair, and a vibrating straightener to get my hair sleek but curly at the same time, and it looked fabulous. She was like a long-lost girlfriend and I can't wait to go back to her for another special occasion! She also educated us on how to use dry shampoo in the future and gave some great tips. I scheduled a dry style at Swink downtown the day of a black tie event at my work. I have long wavy hair that holds style well. I came in and asked for "beachy" waves and told my stylist I was fine with product if it would help hold the style. The stylist spent 15 minutes on my hair with a flatiron. I pointed out a few sections that she had missed and she fixed those. My hair looked fine when I left the salon at 3:00. However, by 4:30 it looked terrible. Most of the waves had completely fallen out. Some parts of my hair were smooth and some had reverted to their normal texture. I ended up putting my hair up in a chignon for the event. I've gotten my hair done at Swink at least 5 times and had mixed results. However, I've never had them finish my hair in 15 minutes, so I should have known that something wasn't right. In my experience some stylists at the salons are great and take their time. In those cases my hair looked good for days after (as it should when you pay to have someone style your hair). Unfortunately, at Swink the quality of service seems to by spotty and more than once my hair has not turned out with odd kinks, uneven texture or, in this case, the style has fallen out an hour and a half after I left the salon. As a comparison, I've been to Drybar in SF and in LA and had MUCH better experiences AND for $35 at those salons they wash and dry your hair. Swink charges you extra to have your hair washed there. I thought about giving Swink two stars because they did refund my money after I called and complained, but in reality that didn't change my experience at the salon at all. It just meant I wasn't out $35 plus tip, parking and my time for an amateur attempt at styling my hair. I hope Drybar considers opening a salon in Seattle, in the meantime I'll be having my hair styled elsewhere. read more

I was a regular patron of Swink's downtown location, twice a month for probably around 9-10 months, for eyelash extension services. I have been getting eyelash extensions now for about 1 and a half years, and selected Swink after trying a few local salons following a move from out of state. I received fills from three of the girls at Swink, and ended up sticking with Chelsea on a regular basis. She seemed to have objectively the best "final product", and is super personable, friendly, and makes the hour-long appointment fly by. I have recently switched salons due to some mild irritation I started having on my eye lids and lash line. The irritation was really bad for a while, but Chelsea was able to adjust the application technique (avoiding application too close to the lash line) and switched to a "sensitive skin" adhesive, which improved the irritation but did not completely eliminate it. [After several months of persistent irritation of varying degrees], I finally came to the conclusion that the products Swink uses (whether it be the adhesive, lashes, gel pads, or tape) just do not agree with my skin. This is certainly not to say that the products they use are low-quality; however, since switching salons, I have noticed a marked improvement in the irritation. All taken into account, I would definitely recommend Swink (especially Chelsea!) for lash extensions, and wish that I could continue to be a regular patron. [Updated]: to address response that implies I gave up and switched salons after one try. read more

We were in an out in 45 minutes with the perfect 80's hair-dos for a prom themed party. The ladies at the salon were friendly and super accommodating (making space for one more appt at the last minute.) The soft curls lasted 2 days - so worth not having to spend twice as long fighting with my own hair dryer and curling iron. read more

My bridesmaids and I all got our hair and makeup done at Swink downtown a week and a half ago, and it was SO great! I am still amazed to look at the photos now, and I can't even tell you how many compliments I got on my hair and headpiece that Danelle put together! I don't think I'll ever be that beautiful again. :) They also let us hang out with all our stuff for almost 4 hours, including letting us open some champagne and snacks in the shop. I went here on a whim as I was feeling lazy and frankly just wanted to be pampered. I showed a pic of the style I wanted to the hairstylist (she was lovely and very skilled) but what I got was quite dif. I asked for soft beachy waves and came with with a classic bouncy hair style, Nice, but not me! I Prob wouldn't go here again, But I would recommend. The one thing I really didn't like about this place is you have to pay 20 more bucks for flat irons or curling irons service. 10 would be more acceptable. None have ever even flinched that I have quite the head of thick and wavy hair that goes past my shoulders. I really don't understand all of the negative reviews for this location. I've been here twice, both for New Years Eve events, and both times I have received excellent service. My most recent visit, Alice did a beautiful job on my updo, and did a wonderful job on my false lashes. I really really wanted to like Swink and the experience. However, overall it was less than exciting, expensive and my hair does not look/feel like it had an expensive blowout. I had upgraded to the "deep conditioning treatment", which included the stylist slapping some conditioner on and leaving it in for about 10 seconds. There is only 1 sink and other guests waiting. Bad system. They also did not have champagne glasses (really?!) which was a bummer. The actual blowout felt rushed as well and the stylist did not dry me all the way through, leaving me wavy later that evening. Overall, not worth the price or the time! read more

I love Swink! I've been to the downtown location several times and the U. Village location once - I've had great experiences at both! Sometimes I go for blow outs and sometimes I get a dry style. Both last for days. I love volume, and it's hard to achieve with my fine, straight hair. Swink has this matte wax that they use before teasing my hair and it's the only product that holds the volume! For days. Seriously. It's magic. I always get compliments when I've been to Swink, so I definitely recommend it! read more

I'm visiting from out of town and staying at the Hyatt. At home, I get frequent blowouts and I didn't really want to do my hair here without my usual tools and products. I looked up blowdry bars on yelp and this place is just a block away from where I was staying. I was able to easily book online (thru yelp!!) and it honestly could not have been easier. I was a little worried because you just don't know how good a blowout will be from a total stranger. But I didnt' need to worry. Molly did my blowout and did a fabulous job. She was fast, efficient. She asked how I like to have my hair blown out and the amount of product I like to have on my hair. She followed my direction perfectly. Several women came in and out of the salon while I was getting my hair done and everyone looked absolutely fabulous. If I lived here, I would definitely come here on a frequent basis and I highly recommend to travelers. read more

I was having a beyond horrible day when I had my appointment, compounded by an argument I got in that made me late. I came in so frazzled that they were polite but didn't ask too many questions, as I clearly seemed to be on the brink. Within minutes, they had made me laugh with personal tales of woe, poured me a glass of sympathy champagne, and styled my hair beautifully. I left beaming-I don't remember the last time I've ever felt as if my hair looked better, or had my day turn completely around like that! I also really just loved the atmosphere: for 30 bucks you can go in and have your hair look like you are about to walk on set in a movie, all while getting it done in a chic, funky boutique salon with a fun vibe and equally fun hair accessories (if you feel so inclined to add a feather or whatnot to your hair). I've never been more impressed with a salon; I usually sort of hate them. Definitely will be going back for a wedding, a night out, or anytime I just want the girls to be jealy of my hair...and esp. when I need some "me" time; this was so much more fun than a pedicure! I have been coming to Swink for over a year and love it! This is a very easy way to upkeep gorgeous lashes. The products are clean and easy. I tried places double the cost and came right back to Swink! They look great, fairly priced and it is easy to get in and out . I had my updoo done a few months ago and they did a fabulous job - my hair stayed in a perfect updoo for 10 hours! I came to Swink for my wedding hair and makeup, and brought along my bridesmaids and the moms. The whole staff was very friendly and offered us champagne, and the salon was cute and comfortable. One of my bridesmaids, who had not originally planned on getting prettied up with us because of the price, changed her mind once she saw how awesome everyone looked. The stylists were very accommodating and managed to work her in for makeup, which was awesome! My stylist was Britni, and she was a wizard! I was especially thrilled with my makeup- I still looked like me, but 50x better! My hair looked fantastic too. The only reason I'm giving this review 4 stars instead of 5 is because my hairstyle did start to come down at the end of the night. This had been an issue during my trial run, so on the day-of I asked her to make it tighter, which she didn't quite achieve. Oh well- by that point in the night the pictures were over and I didn't care anymore :). Overall I am very happy with my experience and would definitely consider coming back if I had another fancy function to attend. read more

Had another wonderful dry style experience at Swink. Got my hair done to fly out for a party. That was Tuesday. It's Friday and my dry style is still looking amazing! Curls were tight, as I requested to start. Amazingly done with a vibrating flat iron - who knew! Put it up in a bun overnight. Flew out of town for the party and the curls are still going strong. Brides Beware! I had booked with Swink back in December for an April wedding because their prices were reasonable and at the time, the service was fine. Fast forward to the week of the wedding. I get an email from Judy (wedding coordinator) giving me the times for me and my girls' hair. There were seven of us and six of us were in the time-frame that we had agreed to back in December (via a signed contract and deposit on my part) and one person was to come in a half an hour before all of us to get her hair done by herself. I immediately wrote to get the times fixed. For one, it was not what was in the contract and two the whole point of us all getting our hair done was for it to be an "event" for us to be together; not one person coming by herself nor having six people wait an extra half hour. It took Swink two or three days to get back to me and when they did they told me they couldn't help me, that there were other clients within our time slots and that because I didn't reserve the entire place, there could be other people there. I could care less that there were other people there. My problem was, I signed a contract to have ALL of us together and now we were not because THEY scheduled other people in my time slots. To make things worse, at my "trial" appointment, I had double checked times and names with the front desk person to make sure everyone was accounted for. In March, everything was still on track. After my response back, nobody got back in touch with me. Mind you, this is the week of my wedding. The last thing I thought I would have to worry about is my hair! I work nearby so I walked over to get immediate service. The woman at the desk was nice but could not help me. I had to work with Judy. When I told her Judy was not returning my messages and my appointment was only a few days away she said she would have the manager call me. I was pleased that I would at least get to talk to someone since the only service I had was over email, despite me asking for someone to call me. The manager emailed me to explain how I was in the wrong. I was speechless. All I wanted them to do was admit they screwed up by scheduling other people during our CONTRACTED time slot and fix it. And if they couldn't move someone else, maybe offer a comp hair or something. Anything. Instead, I was made to feel like I had done something wrong by both Judy and Jacquie, the owner/manager. The compromise Jacquie gave me was to have three appointments start 15 minutes early, guaranteeing nobody was late. I had to take what I could get. Everyone was pleased with their hair. The stylists were nice. We did not get out of there on time and were late for our makeup appointments. And when my Mom got a "blow out" which is less than a "mom of the bride" style, they still charged me for a "mom of the bride" price because I hadn't "prearranged" that type of style. Well, sorry. I had NO IDEA what they might do to my moms hair. After such a poor experience, that was the icing on the cake. It was $10 to them that says so much to a customer. When I asked about the price difference the girl at the front desk said "Yeah, I just talked to Judy and she said I can't change the price because it wasn't pre-arranged." Right. Judy again. I will NEVER go back there and will NEVER recommend it to anyone I know. Unless you're looking for unnecessary stress the week before your wedding, seriously, spend the extra $10/head and go to Gene Juarez where you're treated like queens. WORTH IT! read more

Your customer service BLOWS! The receptionists are rude and bitchy - they should be canned. They have the people/phone skills of third graders. Actually, my 10 year old niece could probably do the job better. Surely in this economy you can find "nice" ladies. You should also honor your crappy services. I got a blow-out and my hair was still very wet underneath - the stylist was clearly in a hurry. I also got eyelash extensions and 4 days later they were falling out on both eyes. No, I didn't use products that caused this. I called to see what could be done and the receptionist called me back and said the owners weren't willing to do anything to "make it right" - in a very bitchy tone I might add. I was so pleased with how my hair turned out! My mom and I wanted to have our hair done for a family wedding. Because we were in town on homecoming weekend, the only time we could be fit in was at 9:30 AM and the wedding wouldn't start until 5 PM.... and it was raining a ton! Our stylists were super helpful and did everything they could so that our styles would last as we spent the remainder of the day in and out of the rain, sightseeing & shopping used book stores (Magus in the U District was incredible!). My stylist and I had a great conversation, she was so funny, sweet, and kind. I don't usually treat myself to blowouts outside of events and special occasions, but I might start to now! I absolutely loved my curled and voluminous hair (my short-haired Mom loved hers too!) and our styles lasted through the dancing. I have LOTS of hair and my service was thorough (but didn't take forever). Great products, wonderful staff--what a fun place to visit. I recently had lash extensions done at Nordstrom and since it was my first time, didn't realize how bad a job the technician did until I came to Chantal at Swink for a fill. She was horrified by the job that was done, and thankfully she removed them and gave me new extensions. What a difference! My lashes look so great and natural. Better in every way for about half the cost! Chantal is really talented....a treasure. I will definitely be going back to her. read more
