Hands-down, the worst salon I've ever been to. It took months for a stylist to get my color right, requiring multiple, multiple visits and my time when I'm very busy. It is uncomfortably cold there, I'm talking colder than a morgue, necessitating clients to wear a sweater or a coat while getting any sort of hair treatment. As a result, the stylist stained my clothing as well, requiring me to do extra laundry. Again, more of my time this place has wasted. Some of the stylists are so loud that I've had to use noise canceling headphones. Overall, a miserable experience. It does not feel like self-care going here, it feels like you've stepped into a place run by 20-somethings who don't have any idea of how to be professional or create a relaxing ambiance for clientele. Overall, stylists don't take direction so requires multiple visits and my money. This place is very amateur. Lastly, their draconian cancellation policies. I am a healthcare provider in a high risk inpatient unit and became suddenly ill as a result of working with very ill patients. I let this place know that I didn't want to come in and get everybody sick, so they charged me $210 for services not rendered. Punished for doing the ethical thing. My recommendation is to go anywhere else. read more

Had a couple of services that were ok. The gal was in training so I have her much grace. Wish they would have done the same for me after their cancellation system did not work from my phone, which I attempted 3 or 4 times 5 days before my appointment. They did not disclose to me they captured my credit card from a prior service. I did email 24 hours before my appointment, should have been plenty of times to honor a valuable customer. This was a one time cancellation after 2 successful appointments. I will never come back nor will I refer friends. read more

I started going to Kameron a few months ago. I started with the hybrid tint and brow shaping which then turned to me getting my eyebrows laminated. I also get compliments from people on how nice they look now!! I also had some skin issues and I had never gotten any kind of skincare done outside of a dermatologist office. I've gone to Sugar & Shears twice now and plan to go back again in the spring. Appointments are all booked online which is super easy to use. Viet cut my hair most recently and Olivia did my color (pictured). They both gave great advice on what products to use to keep my hair hydrated and the color looking good. This review follows my balayage hair care experience with artist Viet Thi - Brand new to sugar & shears and safely coloring my hair in general while expecting, I had a lot of questions about the organic products used at this salon. Viet Thi assured me that she would stay away from my scalp with non-ammonia products to refresh my months of grow-out following a fading bronde-ish balayage I had done at another salon. She was of course knowledgeable and reasonable to my expectations. Applying her vision, her expert hands gave my hair a lift it really needed in terms of color/tone and distribution of balayage itself. The scalp massage was exactly what I didn't know I needed! Overall, I received competent care from a consummate professional while making me feel completely comfortable in her styling chair. I just had my haircut for the first time by Viet Thi and it was great! She did such a fabulous job! Not only was she super kind and fun to chat with but she also was really helpful guiding me on how to best cut my hair. I have a lot of hair but it's super fine, so she was able to help me make sure I have enough body in it but also still have a cut that is easy to manage. The check in process was also super easy here - everything was on time, they took my temperate etc. I felt very COVID safe! I've been getting waxed for over 24 years & eventually did laser hair removal. Now I will get a Brazilian maybe once a year in-between my annual laser touch-up so I really don't have a lot of hair. The place I normally go to is in West Seattle-but I didn't wanna deal with the bridge being closed so I came into Sugar & Shears for a very small clean up. My regular place I normally go charges $30 since there really isn't much to wax off & takes maybe 10 minutes. I was charged $55 & in addition I tipped 20%. So basically walked out of there paying $65 for a 10-15 minute wax. I gave 2 stars because the technician was nice-but I was WAY over charged. I've worked in the beauty industry for over 1/2 my life & know when I'm being taken advantage off. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place. read more

Please stay away from this salon, they are very unethical. I was running late due to an accident and when I called Viet she said she will fit me but have to do way without blow drying I said fine. When I got there, Viet was super rude and refused to do the coloring, went straight away to charge my credit card for the full service and turned me away without any service. My appointment was for 1.5 hours and I still had 55m left. This is very unprofessional and ridiculous. Viet could have very well told me this over the phone instead of making me drive there, then refusing the service and charging me for the full service. read more

I always come flying in in the nick of time with frazzled hair that needs cut and colored spastically trying to dodge the rain. AND NOW SHE HAS HER OWN BEAUTIFUL SPACE. Sugar & Shears! Ashley listens to what you want. And asks questions to help if you're not sure. We're 8 years into this together, Ash & I. This hair thang. My most successful long term relationship to date. Think we get something bronze for that? As a hair stylist - Ashley takes time to kindly make suggestions or point out things that might be easier for your own care. She really gets to know what kind of maintenance you're willing to put in before she goes and does anything. And I'm BUSY. (Read: make this easy for meeee) And then... Magic. The true test of the stylist/colorist is when you get multiple compliments per week on your hair. And they think it's your natural color. This happens to me weekly. Bluntly: I enter looking like some kind of Seattle mess/drowning cat. And I exit Ashley's capable care with straight up MERMAID hair. ... It's a comfortable and warm oasis. She's been my stylist for a year now, and has guided me to redefine my style into one that reflects who I am and who I want to be. This salon is cute, clean, and very friendly. I love how they offered a drink right off the bat and they were very welcoming. I had a hair appointment with Kalani. I showed her a picture of what I was hoping for. She explained to me how we can safely get there and made sure I understood. Through every step, she would ensure I was okay and explain what was happening. After having a baby, I really struggled with how I looked. I have red hair and have always wanted to get my hair dyed without ruining the color or making it look unnatural. I have been to many solans, as I move almost every year, but I have never trusted anyone to actually dye it. Ashley made me feel comfortable and promised she wouldn't do anything to ruin my natural look and after a few haircuts and speaking with her, I decided it was finally time. She suggested a partial balayage to start out slow and it turned out amazing. Great highlights to my hair and it still looks natural! Lightly sun-kissed without looking fake, which is just what I wanted. A great start to dying my hair! I have even scheduled my next appointment for another balayage! Would definitely recommend Ashley for haircuts and dying hair. Not only is she a great person, as I've learned through talking with her during haircuts, but she also really listens and cares about her clients. I have also gotten a bang trim from Tasha and I mentioned that years ago someone cut my bangs funny so I'm growing some parts out and she actually showed me the problem and fixed it! I am so happy I found someone who finally knew how to identify the problem and correct it! She mentioned she has fixed many botched haircuts in the past as well. Would recommend her for sure. Additionally, I got my brows sugared for the first time here. Karina did a wonderful job and I am happy to find that sugaring is definitely less painful than waxing. Waxing also gives me a terrible reaction and sugaring didn't give me a rash at all. They let me know that they're going to see what they can do and within 36 hours assembled a team to be able to take care of all of our HAMU needs. The level of responsiveness could not be more appreciated at a time when I was stressed out about the unforeseen situation (COVID times are wild y'all!). I JUST HAD THE BEST APPOINTMENT with the wonderful Bella and FANTASTIC Kalani these women are fabulous! Bella did a facial instraction, which got rid of all of my deep black heads and helped making my enlarged pores go away. she also gave me the best tips to continue to get rid of the the irritating stress acne I have. It wasn't the most relaxing facial I've had, but definitely worth the beautiful smooth almost spotless skin I have now. AND KALANI, She works wonders! I'm a whole new women now! She definitely made sure we both left happy with the results! I've had so many horrible experiences getting my hair done I can say she's my best and favorite I've had! I'm mixed I have very difficult hair and so it take a long time and most stylist don't have the patiences for it. But she did everything I asked for! I came in with horrifying blue hair that was once was a blonde Balayage. We had to do 2 sessions because we wanted to make sure the blue was totally out. I also wanted to cut about 10" off I've never had my hair this short but I'm innn looovvveee! It was my decision and I'm extremely happy we did it! I will forevvva be coming back to see these beautiful ladies and no one else! All I have to say is LISTEN TO THEM! If they give you tips or product that they recommend. Two things! Hair and skin. First off, I have been seeing Ashley now for a few years and I would follow her to Mars, but I'm so thrilled for her (and Karina) and their very own spot. She is a magician with hair and the sweetest thing to gab with while sitting in the chair. And now, skin! I am no stranger to facials, they are my fave splurge over massages etc. But I just had my first with Karina and it was fantastic. It was the perfect balance of a treatment (extractions etc) and also relaxing and soothing. I left there glowing and my skin feels amazing. I have been seeing one of the estheticians here for a long time for bikini area sugaring. She has always been amazing, I'm super comfortable with her, and she is truly the only person I trust down there. I have an appointment scheduled in a few days and just received my confirmation email for my appointment with her... but I know that she was let go from S&S weeks ago and NO ONE has contacted me to tell me she is no longer there. My appointment still has her name on it like I'm going to go in there and she's going to be providing my service. But see I know that to not be true because her and I now keep in touch outside of the salon and she let me know when she was let go. This kind of deceptive stuff with clients is not okay. I worked in the salon industry for years and the fact that I have not been given a call to tell me she's no longer there and that I will obviously be with another person is insanity to me. It's the most unprofessional and deceptive thing you can do to clients. This place has had WEEKS to call me and get me rescheduled with someone else but due to never receiving that simple phone call and then them trying to "confirm" my appointment with the provider that is no longer there I am here with this review. I'm sorry but if you're so worried about losing that providers clients you should have thought about that before you let her go but then to try to trick us (your clients) into seeing someone else and not telling us that our provider isn't even there anymore. I'm sorry but I don't just trust anyone with my bikini area so yeah a heads up would have been nice. I'll never go here again they lost my trust entirely. read more
