I have been getting extensions for years. Never have I been matched to the wrong color, never has my hair looked so uneven and never has my extensions fallen out so much. I have only used Sabrina's lash service here and am incredibly thrilled. I work out in Lynnwood, so evening availability is very important to me since often times I don't get home until around 6:00 PM. I have searched high and low, and there are very few estheticians available for lashes at that time. So to find someone conveniently located in Capitol Hill who takes appointments as late as 6:30 has been life-altering. Sabrina is very professional and incredibly savvy when it comes to her trade. She mentioned she occasionally still attends classes, and has lash application and knowledge about the chemicals used down to a science. It's FAR better than going to a random salon and the prices are just as affordable. read more

I've been seeing Deanna for my hair colors, cuts and now extensions for 12 years. I would not go anywhere else. I learned more about what I can do with my hair through her than anyone else I've gone to ever. She's very fairly priced for the quality of work. Half of my friends and coworkers go to her now as well. If you're looking for someone who can actually make you feel better about your hair and get it looking its best then she's the stylist for you. Deanna is simply amazing. I have been transitioning from black box dye to a lighter color in hopes to grey *gracefully* for about 9 months now, and she just took it to another level...without using bleach!!! The first few rounds were with a different hairstylist who used bleach and the results were brutal. My hair literally burned off and the stylist said that it's "normal". Now, I do agree that it is normal to a certain extent having been through this experience and learning along the way. I understand that damage is something your hair WILL go through if you decide to go down the road of lightening your hair from a dark permanent color...especially from black like mine was. She used some miracle cream (lol) that is peroxide based but not as harsh and sure, my hair was dry for a few days but she assured me that there are products such as Olaplex to help your hair recover which I heavily armed myself with. It has been 10 days now since my service and my hair is already feeling really soft even though it did feel pretty brittle at first after having my 4th lightening treatment. Bottom line is that she knows her stuff. I had found her after my 3rd bleach treatment when I decided that I needed a short haircut to get rid of the dead ends that had occurred from that ringer I put it through. I went back to her because her cut was incredible and I didn't even know I could like a short haircut as much as I did lol. My hair has always been long. I'm so glad I did. Wanting to try something new with my brows I decided to book a brow lamination with Sydney P, licensed esthetician & multi-cultural skin specialist! Upon arrival the space was clean organized and relaxing. Sydney was warm, welcoming & very easy to talk too! I was so nervous about getting my brows done however Sydney reassured me through the whole process how great they looked, and kept me updated on the steps she was doing along the way. After seeing my brows I was thrilled! They are still beautiful and it has been a week. I have been using the cute goody bag oil regularly like advised and I can say I will be returning to Sydney for great customer service & to feel beautiful without the need to put on makeup everyday! Extension Review I personally do not believe Deanna is as experienced or knowledgeable about tape in extensions as she states and advertises. The only credential that she provides is simply stating, "I'm the best", "I have been doing this for a long time", and "I have many satisfied clients". I only found a hand full of extension related reviews for DeAnna and several of them were from the same person; name and photo, with different accounts - Rose F sounds like a friend or an alias to me. This was my experience - 1) When I got home after having my extensions placed by Deanna, I noticed an extension pair that were not evenly lined up. I called Deanna and she told me that she made the conscious decision to not correct the error, citing some time, oil and effort problem and then stated, "Honestly, I didn't even think you would notice". She then made an offer for me to come back a week later and she would fix it then. On our call I also mentioned having 3 or 4 other extension pairs that seemed to be peeling from one side or the other. She stated that she has never heard of this happening and they must be peeling because I am touching and "fingering" them. Offering to fix the off-set extension pair a week later was unacceptable, taking a short cut because she "didn't think I would notice" was unacceptable, not taking the time to correct the mistake, or even talk to me about the mistake while I was in the chair was unacceptable, and blaming me for what I would later come to find as her subpar work was unacceptable - all in all, extremely unprofessional, and to me show lack of experience. 2) I had the extensions placed on a Wednesday, and on Saturday I had my hair styled for an event. I was scheduled with a stylist who is experienced with extensions. Almost immediately upon sitting down to talk about what style I wanted, the stylist noticed 2 sets of extensions placed so high on my head of very fine hair - the extension was easily seen just sitting there, hair down. Then she notices how 2 sets of extensions over my ear that were so angled, it caused them to poke out. Then she noticed how all most all of the extension pairs were unevenly placed so loose hair was sticking and pulling all over the place. I lost it when she told me that two of the extension pairs were not even stuck together, they were just stuck to loose hair. She very nervously asked me if she could blend my hair and trim the extension because it didn't look like blending had been done and the extensions were uneven. (I hadn't noticed because my hair had been curled up until Saturday morning) After having my hair styled and the event was over, I made another consultation appointment at another salon. This time doing a lot research and finding a stylist who has many many positive reviews about tape in extensions. She noted many of the same issues, adding that it looked as though clumps of hair, and too much hair were grabbed haphazardly and the tape in was just placed around it, which was why I had extension pairs that were not stuck together. 3) After two consultations from different people, at different salons, both stating the same errors, and issues, I wrote Deanna explaining what I had learned, my disappointment, and I asked for her to refund the cost of her placing the extensions. Her response was filled with, "I am the best at extensions", "I have many satisfied clients", "no other salon is going to do a better job than me", and the best one, "If the other salon is criticizing my work, it is because they are hoping to get you as a client". Funny that she would say that because thinking back to our consultation, she bashed every other salon and their ability to place extensions. I believe that this is how Deanna works and operates. She offered to have me come back to fix everything at no charge. I don't know how you offer to fix something that you're either denying there being any issue or denying responsibility or error on your part, while simultaneously blaming your client for all of the issues they have encountered. I also didn't know how someone with so much expertise could do such poor work in the first place. The email response also stated, "Extensions are not for everyone and that is not my problem." I declined the offer for her to "fix" my hair. Deanna talked a lot about being the best, unfortunately the quality of work and craftsmanship that I received did not back that up which is why I say: I do not believe that Deanna is as experienced or knowledgeable about tape in extensions as she states and advertises. read more

My daughter and I came in to see Sylvia. My hair was going through a rough process of DARK brown (almost black) to Blonde (my natural color). When I saw Sylvia I was in the middle of this transition back to blonde....my hair was orange, literally! She did and AMAZING job of an all over bleach foil to cut out the orange. So, it turns out that (for me) getting a facial at 8 months pregnant is not such a good idea. Yes, as I enter my last few weeks of pregnancy, I thought it would be lovely and special to book a facial and eyebrow wax for myself. I deserve a little relaxation, I thought. And so, I scheduled an appointment with Trina at Studio 229. Trina is sweet and kind and very professional, and Studio 229 has a wonderful calming atmosphere. Trina did everything she could to accomodate my hugely pregnant state. She was so warm and helpful. Unfortunately, it didn't take me long to realize that this spa experience wasn't going to be quite as relaxing as I had hoped. I made it through the eyebrow wax, but I got progressively hotter and more uncomfortable. As any pregnant (or previously pregnant) woman can tell you, in the 8th month, it can be difficult to breath and hot flashes appear from nowhere. So basically, regardless of any accomodations that Trina so thoughtfully made for me, I could not make it through the 60 minute facial. I could barely make it through 15 minutes. After almost losing my breakfast, I had to tell Trina that I needed to stop. I was hugely embarrassed and disappointed. My hormones freaked out too, and I started to cry. I exited the sweet little spa room 15 minutes later after finally pulling myself together. Trina was waiting for me at the front desk with a glass of water. Again, she was so sweet and kind. She told me that she wasn't going to charge me for the wax or the the facial, and I should come back and see her after the baby is born. I was blown away by this generosity. Trina and Studio 229 obviously had no obligation to go the extra mile like this. And yet, they extended this kindness and this amazing customer service with huge smiles. And so, I am giving this 5-star rating not on my facial (although my eyebrows look wonderful), but instead on the superior customer service I received at Studio 229. I will definitely be returning to see Trina, and I certainly intend on making this my permanent go-to salon. Thank you, ladies. read more

Like Avitania, I came here because of Groupon. The haircut was ok. As I walked out, I was playing with it with my fingers in that "I'm kind of uncomfortable with my new look but maybe if I fluff it up or smooth is down it'll get better" kind of way. The facial with Kurt was really good. I've never had a facial before so I don't have much to compare it to, but I left feeling relaxed and moisturized. It was really the service that bumped this place to a 2-star for me. When I called to make the appointment, the receptionist was really nice. She told me Deanna (the owner) would be cutting my hair, and also gave me the name of the person that would be doing my facial. I looked up both of them on Yelp and was really excited about the good review they got. When my appointment came though, it was the old bait and switch. The aesthetician I had an appointment with wasn't there. Deanna initially consulted with me about my hair including looking at it while it was dry, which I think is important, and asking my preferences. Then in the middle of my wash, another client (probably not a Groupon using one) walked in and she just passed me off to the new girl who told me she had just started working there a few days ago. In the middle of my wash! The new girl didn't know what I wanted, didn't know what my hair looked like dry and told me that she was lucky the salon had run a Groupon special because all of those clients were now being passed on to her. I walked out feeling tricked. Maybe it was my fault for not speaking up and insisting that Deanna finished what she started. Unless she speaks in the third person, this response is to whomever wrote that owner comment on DeAnna's behalf: Perhaps if these people actually took accountability and addressed their mistakes then maybe they'd be able to turn out a decent hair cut. Instead they're trying to dismiss negative reviews as a disgruntled ex-employee's attempt at revenge. So DeAnna's specialty is asymmetrical cuts? Wow, I wish that "technique" had been mentioned in the consultation. Clearly the salon's written comprehension skills are on par with their overall talents because nowhere did I say I got nor intended to get another hair cut. But you'd think after 4 months of growth even the most heinous joke of a haircut would look better. Not the case here. Hence my urge to convey my continued frustration during my grow out. And although it's much easier to save face by saying I am this "infamous" fired girl than to admit your own shortcomings, I assure the yelp community I am not. The owner and an employee started arguing about hours and proceeded to review everyone's retention rates and what employees weren't doing good work. When I first moved to Seattle, I had a series of failed attempts for a haircut. I finally found Trista at Studio 229 and have been pleasantly satisfied each time she cuts my hair. From the beginning, Trista has taken special care to make sure the faux hawk is up to snuff. It helps that she is a perfectionist and loves to cut hair. Not to mention, she's a great conversationalist and has a bit of Charlize Theron's Aeon Flux look going on. ;) Studio 229 does both men and women's hair and I get the impression that most people coming in are long-standing clients. This isn't your typical hair salon; it's not Queen Anne or Fremont, but Capitol Hill. As such, all of the hair stylists at Studio 229 have a creative edge to them and that's the vibe you get here. read more

I wish I could go back to Studio 229. I really really do. I could gush about the aspects of this salon I truly dig: The space is really beautiful. The location is perfect. The price is right.* They have a huge selection of non-hair-related mags to study while you wait. There were other stylists giving clients beautiful haircuts. I loved the eyebrow grooming I received from Cortney. Gush-gush-gush. I can't go back though, because the haircut I got there was incredibly bad (not to mention the attitude I got from the stylist who gave me the wretched haircut). Feature this: I went to Studio 229 with virgin, super-long hair and was looking for the traditional post-wedding grow-out, gimme something totally wild a la "shaggy hot mullet" (not like Shaggy from scooby doo, but Carole Brady-esque shag). I left with face framing layers that were quite short, but the back of my hair was still one-length, bra-strap length. Once I returned home safely, I had to pull out the shears I use to cut my hubby's hair and perform major damage control. In order for the back of my hair to match up with the shorty layers up front, I had to lop off lots and lots of hair. You may ask why I didn't request that the stylist keep cutting my hair: she was so out of it, she forgot which side of my hair she had already cut, she tried to *sell* me a dye-job halfway through my cut, and she dissed on my 'hood throughout my appointment. You may ask why I didn't assert myself at the time, telling her I was unhappy and refusing to pay for services: I just wanted to get the heck out there and cut my losses. Since my momma taught me better than to trash talk anyone by name on the Internet, I won't. I'll leave readers with this bit of advice: if you make an appointment here, ask for someone by name who has gotten great feedback-- Cortney (5 stars in my brow-book), Elysia, Trista. *The price is right if you do not have to re-cut your hair once you get home. read more

I love Groupon. You know why? Without Groupon, I never would have tried this gem of a place. First, I got a fantastic cut by Ashley, who did a great job re-shaping my asymmetrical, inverted bob haircut. I'm very picky about how my haircut is done (no razors, dry cutting), and Ashley was very gracious about indulging my requests. She's also nice to talk to and very knowledgeable. I also got a facial and brow shaping by Kurt, who was also fantastic! I was a little bit nervous when I met him, because I'd never had a facial by a guy before and let alone a guy who was so young. However, at the end of my time with Kurt, I my sensitive, clogged skin was clear and felt AMAZING. My brows are perfect. And I had a great time chatting with Kurt, who is hysterical. It's possibly the most fun I've had at a facial, ever. I'm definitely heading back to Studio 229. You should check it out, too! read more

I also went to Studio 229 for a facial because I had a Groupon. My intention for scheduling my appt for the day/time was purely for my benefit. It was something to look forward to after a stressful day. However, it turned out the staff were a bit fried themselves. The atmosphere was pleasant with plenty of reading material and beverages (water and tea assort.) I was able to help myself to. I arrived right on time and I was asked to have a seat and wait. I did so, for 25 minutes. No one checked in even to reassure me that I was going to be seen shortly. Finally, my esthetician apologized and said it was going to be a few more minutes. I'd never had a facial before. Angela was very nice and explained everything very well. She advised me to get a chemical peel (a mid $35 or a medium $45) to fix some of my problem areas. Again, never having had a facial, I figured she knew what she was talking about, so I agreed to the mid chem peel. It feels kinda like it sounds. My face felt like it was melting off! She quickly fanned my face and ultimately I survived. The massage and moisturizing were the best part. Unfortunately, my attempt at relaxation was interrupted by some staff arguing in the lobby, quite loudly. I felt embarrassed for them and annoyed that I had to hear it. read more

I came to Studio 229 as part of a Groupon package for a haircut, conditioning treatment, and facial. The price I paid made it more worth it but I probably wouldn't pay regular price here. I had a bad experience with the scheduling as they were not very accommodating with an appointment change. Also, I thought the haircut was just alright and didn't come out loving my new hairstyle even though I just wanted layers and a trim. The conditioning treatment was great, and I could feel the effects for weeks. I didn't think that my stylist spent much time checking that my layers were even. Also, I didn't think the facial was that good. I usually have to have extractions done and there weren't that many that were done. The facial was extremely short, and I just remember a wet cloth being put on my face. I also thought that the esthetician was really pushy with trying to get me to schedule my next appointment and get facial peels. Generally speaking I absolutely hate getting my hair cut. I put it off until my employer "strongly suggests" that I run out and get it cut at the last minute. This was the case when I came into Studio 229. I walked in on a whim and they worked me into their schedule. I'm sure that I must be an annoying client because I never really know what I want or anything. My stylist was very friendly and patient with me and we worked out a good short look that worked for me and for my employer. 5 Stars for Marissa! I came to Marissa at Studio 229 for full foil (to blend my DARK brown roots into an otherwise multi-tonal blonde color) after receiving a recommendation from and seeing the wonderful job she had done with my mother's color. Not only did the color come out spectacular (2 tones of blonde and bleach highlights) her process and workmanship were spectacular. All the way from the consultation she when she took the time to explain my options and choose the colors of blonde to this bedraggled, poor college student home on Spring break, to when she stayed after everyone else had left to blow out my hair and transform me into a blonde bombshell with a voluminous mane, the experience was wonderful. Will absolutely make the trip downtown to visit her for my touch up again when I am back home in Seattle (although I wish I could bring her back to Pittsburgh!!) read more

I also used a Groupon for a haircut, conditioning treatment, brow wax, and facial. Because I have wavy/curly hair, I scheduled an appointment with DeAnna. My facial/brow wax was with Kurt. I wanted to go from medium length hair to a short curly bob with bangs. I brought in some pictures to show DeAnna, and she "got" what I was going for, AND knew how to make it work for my own thin, frizz-prone hair. I was delighted with the final product, which really flatters my face. DeAnna decided to style it AFTER I got my facial, which made sense. Kurt is chatty and fun, and his brow wax was excellent--a perfect arch, and no pain. The facial was even better. There were several different steps, but I lost track because it felt amazing and I just peaced out. Kurt also massaged my shoulders and neck...wow. After the facial, I went back to the stylist's chair. DeAnna had another client, so she assigned another girl to style my hair. This girl--I don't know her name--was new, I think, and maybe a little nervous. She made me look like kind of a dork. Also, I'm not a hair expert, so I was hoping to get some tips to make my hair look cute when I was in charge of it. No such luck, but oh well. My hair still looks great a week later and I'm having fun styling it different ways--who knew that short hair is so versatile? I've gotten a lot of compliments already. I would recommend Studio 229. I really like the laid-back vibe there, and the way the employees talk to each other while they style does not bother me at all. I tried a few well-known salons in town when I first moved here and twice received what I refer to as the "Rachel (from friends) mixed with Bon Jovi" double layer disaster cut. I have thin and long hair and people are always trying to give me "more volume" and a "lift" with their layered cuts and I always leave either 1-unable to recreate what they did with styling or 2-hating their styling from the beginning. So I am VERY nervous about trying new people in Seattle. But my consultation with Marissa at Studio 229 was phenomenal. She took her time with me and asked me about what has or hasn't worked with my hair before and offerred a solution for my desire for bangs even though I don't have a lot of hair to devote to bangs. It's definitely the first time I've ever left a salon in Seattle feeling like I got a fabulous haircut that also ended up being manageable for me at home. We also did some highlights and low lights on my second visit to her that scored a compliment from a customer of mine. I happily sent my customer to her (who had also had several bad experiences in Seattle with hair stylists giving her what "they thought" would look good). And the next week I received a huge thank you from my customer for the referral. Couldn't be any happier with Marissa and I won't be trying anyone else. I hope she never leaves. read more

I clearly cannot speak for everybody when I say this, but I choose a salon because they have top of the line products and talented, professional stylists (or because I saw somebody's rockin hair and had to ask for a referral, of course!). NOT because I'm looking to make "Besties" with the girl who booked my appointment, and not because I want to degrade and scrutinize a surf to my lady-ship. With this salon, I actually went out of my way (on my vacation) to go here because my girlfriend's stylist (Marisa) had been doing that good of a job on her hair- I was seriously jealous! I left home for Seattle with a neglected, fried, brassy frock of hippie hair, but came back with a sleek, slightly asymmetrical, totally color corrected blunt cut style that I never would have picked for myself, but that I just adore! I look like a superhero, and since being back home have gotten so many compliments I had to write a review. Especially on my new bangs- Marisa did this great shading/ contrast thing with the color and it absolutely works for me. I'm going to have to pay for a flight to Seattle each time I have to get my hair done because I just don't think I'll have much luck finding as much talent where I live. PROS: Reasonably priced, SUPER creative stylist that actually listened and took care to give me a look I love, people watching from their capital hill location, very relaxing earthy atmosphere CONS: She definitely took her time. I don't know that this is necessarily a con- I'd rather have someone take their time and do a good job than anything else- but when all was said and done, I was on cloud 9 in love with my do, but man was I done with the neck torture! read more

I used a Groupon here. It was for a haircut an facial. I thought the esthetician did a good job, although it was 15 minutes shorter than it should have been. I wasn't impressed with the haircut. I went with a friend who also used a Groupon. She asked for layers in her hair and ended up with a small clump of bangs that were about an inch long. She was very unhappy. Since I decided to do a facial second and the haircut first (which ended up being a tiny trim), the stylist decided she didn't need to style my hair at all after the shampoo/cut, since "it will get messed up anyway". I felt kind of ripped off. My freind got a style with her cut, but they didn't even try on me. Also, one of the employees didn't call in the day before due to a hangover. He came in and got reamed by the shop owner in front of us. It was very uncomfortable. read more

After a month of trepidation and mulling it over, I took the plunge and went blonde for the summer. I purchased a Groupon and I consulted with one of the stylists. He ended up being fired because of attendance issues and when I told the owner what I wanted to do she said, "Oh just as well you're with me. I'll do a better job!" And she did. She put sweet n low in the bleach so that my scalp didn't burn, she got it as white blonde as possible and then gave me a great cut. I even purchased two top of the line products from her after the fact because she was so knowledgeable. I had one- on-one attention and felt like I could trust her very much. I went here long before the recent Groupon wave. I was just walking by and it looked empty so I decided to see if anyone was free for a brow wax. I wasn't super stoked on the results... my skin was irritated for longer than is usual afterward and it was uneven. But the guy was nice and at the time it was a decent price. If you're expecting a fancy salon experience, this isn't it. I didn't end up going back. But in general, if you buy a Groupon and want any likelihood of good service, wait as long as you can to use it. Most people buy them and then use them shortly thereafter, which means that the salons get slammed with a bazillion people overnight, not all of whom will tip well or ever return again. Some of the Groupon-related difficulties described about this place on Yelp are things that I think are related to them having been overwhelmed and stressed out by the response vs. what it might be like under other circumstances. read more

I came in with hair to my waist, full of good intentions to donate to Locks of Love but nervous as hell about short hair for the first time since 1984 - yikes! DeAnna took a look at the pic I provided as a guideline, really heard me on my desire for "wash-and-wear" (i.e., no product - no blow-drying 'cause I really am that lazy), and gave me the most amazing cut that just works!! It has lots of body and swing. The salon was very clean and pleasant. After numerous trims that left me looking like a chia pet with a mullet, I was understandably wary of hairdressers. I avoided it for well over a year, but the curls needed taming. I searched all over google for a place that had experience with African-American hair and I found an obscure reference to Studio 229 somewhere. I finally sucked it up and went in for a taming. My appointment was with Elysia and she more than made up for all of my prior bad experiences! She was very attentive and, before even picking up the scissors, went over what she thought my hair might need, what she planned to do, and then got my input. She took her time and was just a really nice person. The end result was great and I was really happy with it. So when she told me about the free maintenance haircuts to combat any mullet-y tendencies, I was quite thrilled! It occurred to me that the cost of those freebies might've been rolled into the initial cut price and wondered how hard my wallet was about to get hit, but it was actually very reasonable! I am the kind of person who looks in the mirror and realizes that they should have gotten their hair cut four weeks ago. This usually means I pick up the phone and find the nearest place with an opening...with mixed results. Well...I think I found my new stylist- and a reason to make scheduled and regular appointments. I got a great deal through groupon for Studio 229. I had to make two appointments to fit in my facial/brow wax and then another day for the cut. Day one- I was late. Really really late. Mixed bag of keys locked in car, no parking, parking ticket, and general no good very bad dayness. Kurt was fabulous and gracious telling me not to worry- which was awesome. I was absolutely not worried after the relaxing facial. He even managed to tame my brows, which I had butchered with tweezers during the 'I'll save money and do it myself' phase of my life. Day two- they were late. Really late. Fair deal. I read trashy magazines for a half hour in the lobby. We're even- and with the groupon deal I understood since they were definitely booked up. The wait was worth it. Ashley was fabulous! Didn't rush and explained the whole time what she was doing and why. This is an awesome thing for someone who knows zero about hair. She was very down to Earth which is another perk for me since I don't really love the gossipy salon scene. Long story summed up. I will be back. And it will not be four weeks too late. read more

I live in Phoenix, but every time I am in Seattle I make an appointment at Studio 229. There is no one who is better at cutting and styling hair than DeAnna. I have not been able to replace her in the 6 years I have been in Phoenix and I have tried lots of other stylists. If you live in Seattle, or you are just visiting, be sure to make an appointment. I booked a first time facial service with Sydney P. Esthetics that's located in 229 hair salon & spa. Prior to my appt I was so nervous about my skin since it had been breaking out like crazy! Sydney made me feel so comfortable, relaxed & secure. She was very informative with every step and took the time to understand my skin. I left with my skin feeling and looking amazing!! I have to say first and foremost, the customer service was good. Offering water, great conversation. My concern is for customers walking in with Groupons. It seems to be a theme that your 1-star and 2-star ratings all start with "I went to Studio 229 with a Groupon..." Well, I'm another one of those Groupon people. Painful wax. No desired results. And I wasn't able to wear a swimsuit for weeks. The lady that helped me was nice but I believe lacked experience. Which is not something I recommend when going to get a wax. read more

I used a living social coupon for an hour long facial, haircut ,and deep condition. I was well- received, seated, and treated very well. Carly did my facial and it was great. my skin looked fresh and clean. The next day at work my co-worker commented that I looked refreshed. I would definitely get more facials with Carly. Luis did my hair, he took the time to listen to my ideas; but ultimately I gave him free reign to use his expertise. It turned wonderfully, and I get lots of compliments! I admit, I should have written a review of Studio 229 long ago because Deanna is the only person I allow to touch my hair. She is freakin' amazing. I travel an hour and a half into the city from Kitsap every time I need a haircut because she's just that good. I always bring her my crazy ideas-- I want something asymmetrical, or I want a perm, or I want to copy some picture from a movie, or some period specific cut-- she always just says "yeah, of course I can do that!" and it always turns out perfectly. My current haircut that she just recently gave me is the best my hair has ever looked in my entire life. And the sugar on top- her sweet little doggy will sit in your lap (if you want to hold her) during your haircut! I LOVE Studio 229! read more

My sister and I decided to check out the salon through Groupon and bought two gift certificates there for a deep condition, haircut, brow wax, and facial. First, I have to say that I loved my haircut which was both reasonable and done by a very nice lady, Ashley. I also really enjoyed my facial from the esthetician, Kurt. The brow wax wasn't that great, though. When I got home my left eye brow was a little higher than my right eye brow, but it didn't take very long to fix. So, my ranking of the haircut would have been 5 stars, and my brow wax/facial 2 stars (maybe). My problem was with the owner of the studio, DeAnna. My sis and I had arranged to have our salon experiences at the same time. She was going to get a facial while I got the haircut and vice versa. However, the owner ended up bumping my appointment without telling me for another client. Of course, she apologized for the "confusion", but the end result was that she made me sit and wait without explanation for over an hour and a half without telling me that my appointment wasn't scheduled until several hours later. And then, she had the nerve to talk about me while she was washing the hair of another client as "those Groupon people" that she has had a really hard time squeezing in with the rest of her clients. I was 5 feet away while she was complaining about the "the groupon folks" that have inundated her salon with appointments. Excuse me, but you, DeAnna, contacted Groupon to help sell your services. And then you have the nerve to make a paying customer feel terrible for taking you up on your marketing coupon! Seriously, get with it. I wish that DeAnna hadn't ruined the experience for me because Ashley was a gem. She was really friendly, reasonably priced, and gave my wavy mane a great cut. And now for my sister's experience: DeAnna cut her hair. My sis was pretty explicit and asked her not to give her short layers and, unfortunately, that is exactly what DeAnna did. Honestly, I think my sister's hair looks pretty good, but the layers are short. Kurt, the esthetician, left a gap in one of her eyebrows, and burned the skin around her nose during her glycolic mask. When I saw my sis the next day for Easter, her skin looked pretty good, except for the nose area. So, overall the experience for both of us was not good. I would never recommend the salon to a friend, but I still would recommend my hairdresser, Ashley. Ashley, if you are reading this and you ever end up moving to another studio, let me know. read more
