I went in for a haircut and requested a specific stylist on a friend's recommendation. The problems started almost immediately. No one told me she was running late, so I sat there for 40 minutes with zero communication about what was going on. When I finally got in the chair, she gave me the worst haircut of my life. I brought inspiration photos for a cute, simple cut. Honestly my hair already looked close to the photo, I just needed my layers trimmed. Instead I walked out with nonconsensual mullet. I wanted to cry when I saw it. It's been months and it still hasn't grown out. I went to a wedding and people thought I was wearing a WIG. That's how bad it is. My self esteem has taken a real hit over this. This is genuinely one of those horror stories friends swap at brunch. Went in for a trim, left with a literal mullet. And a note for the owner: just because we're in Seattle doesn't mean everyone walking in wants some edgy alternative cut. I did try to handle this privately first. I reached out to the owner to fix it and got completely ghosted. I was ready to lick my wounds and move on, until I opened my email to find an announcement that this same stylist was back from vacation and I should book with her. Obviously a mass email to the whole list, but after being ignored, it felt like a slap in the face. So here we are, doing this publicly. I'm posting photos so you can see how wild this is. She was incredibly patient in answering all my questions, gave me really helpful tips about my hair and how to maintain it, and most importantly , she gave me an amazing haircut. Had such a great experience with Brynn and overall at the salon. The space is very cool and chic upon walking in. They offer coffee, tea, water, and have a candy bar as well! Brynn, and all of the stylists, spend a good amount of time with their clients to understand exactly what they want, pulling swatches, and having a conversation. Then, Brynn delivered on exactly what I wanted. There was a slight upcharge but she was very clear about it, provided me options, and asked which direction I wanted to go. She took her time and delivered excellent service. I appreciate they are a no-tipping salon and emphasize paying their stylists a higher wage. I wish more salons would do this! They also offer free bang trims in between visits. One small nitpick I have is that some of the other stylists (not Brynn) were discussing clients after they walked out the door or called on the phone. Went back for correction and they were worse than what I came in with. Called the salon and was told someone would call me back and they never did. $400 later and I will have to go somewhere else to get what I asked for in the first place. I have been to this salon multiple times. The service is good if they are not busy. If I go there during weekends, it could be off. My overall rating is 3 stars. My last appointment was with Mariah on a Saturday for a color retouch. It was an disappointment. She was behind her schedule and started my appt 15mins after the scheduled time. While she applied the dye, she chatted with other people and seemed distracted from the conversations. I was a bit surprised that she was behind the schedule and was still quite causal chatting around. I have been coloring my hair by professionals or by myself regularly for a long time. I can't see exactly how she did it, but I noticed she didn't divide my hair into that many sections. She applied the back of my color quickly. I always thought a color retouch appt service comes with a blow dry styling service. If I make an appt with a master stylist, the blow dry styling service will be done by a master stylist. It maybe a wrong expectation at Vann. After my hair was washed, Mariah blow-dried my hair along with her assistant because she was busy and had to fasten the progress. I have been going for so many years but have most recently landed in the expert hands of Antonio for my cuts (honestly I've felt like gate keeping him and then remembered we gotta help small businesses). My Asian friends, Antonio is your guy. He's gonna understand your hair and the nuances to give you the perfect cut. Antonio is my fave stylist of all time for catching up and conversation with just a really good dude. Plus he's rad. Side note I've had color from Lisa the owner (who hustles as a biz owner) and she was great. So was Christopher if you can get an appt. Anyhow, love this studio. I went in just wanting a quick trim to clean up my bob -- nothing drastic. I even explained that my hair already had layers from a previous cut (different place), but all I wanted was to even everything out a bit so it looks smooth when I straighten it. My hair was shoulder-length, and the stylist and I agreed it'd be best to keep the length and only take off a little to play it safe. But when she finished and straightened it, my hair was so much shorter than I expected. Definitely not what I asked for. She mentioned afterward that it ended up being a "corrective haircut," but that's not what I came in for at all. I was totally fine with the layers -- they would've grown out on their own. I just wanted an even, clean look, not a whole new length. I was too shy to even say anything thinking it wasn't that bad but after getting home and taking a second look, I can't believe how short it is, it looks sooo bad on me!!! To make things worse, I had added a deep conditioning treatment through the app because someone from the salon told me it was discounted... but I never got it. The stylist apologized for the rushed appointment, but honestly, that didn't make up for the experience. I'd seen Hatsumi before and had a great time, but this time I tried Shanna, and I walked out really upset. I'm not discrediting her knowledge, but this is not the haircut I wanted. The salon studio is clean and has a big sitting area and a welcoming atmosphere. You're offered tea, coffee and candy treats as you wait which is really nice I met Shanna when I did my hair consultation 2 weeks before my appointment. My first impression with her was nice, kind and personable. We looked at photos, walked through all my options and she made recommendations which I appreciated. She even gave me a bangs trim! Had the most Ah-mazing experience with Ava but really the whole team was fantastic. From the woman who checked me in to the woman who brought me tea and lead me to the back waiting room with a complimentary foot massage machine. Not only is Ava talented, she is very communicative and makes you feel right at ease. She even provided a scalp massage before the wash which I thought was an added treat. Only drawback is parking can be challenging given its close proximity to pike place market but they have a few parking lots nearby. I love Vann studio and have been back time and time again!! They have an awesome July gift card special going on, and so long as you buy the gift card at least a day in advance, you can get upwards of $50+ in credit for free! This time, I had L'Treyl as a stylist!! L'Treyl was EVERYTHING as a stylist!! They listened to my wants, provided me with options, asked for clarification, paid attention to small details I mentioned, and made my hair 100000x better than it was before and somehow made my hair not only what I wanted, but somehow better than what I wanted?? On top of all of that, they were freaking HILARIOUS and I had so much fun spending the better part of three hours gabbing with them about everything from life goals to the life changing elements of Jersey Shore (who wrote the note????). L'treyl did a partial balayage on my already partially pre-bleached Asian hair and helped me go from a partial looking blonde/grown out black to a blended ashy-mushroom black/brown. They also gave me a haircut to give my usually flat and blunt hair some more volume and shape and they were so reassuring during the whole process ("this might feel scary but I promise you it will be ok" *insert precision hair chopping*). They were very knowledgeable about the products, techniques, and gave me tips and tricks while also being very realistic with me (since I don't usually use a ton of hair products, they would show me the products they used on my hair but also told me if I'm not realistically going to use them, no sense in forcing myself to use them). Before booking, I messaged L'treyl on Instagram to make sure my existing hair and hair goals were feasible, so I highly recommend reaching out beforehand to make sure you feel comfortable meeting your hair goals! Had a facial here with Rose and it was awesome. I got an extra mask with my 60 minute facial with extractions. Love their extraction machine. It didn't cause as much pain as when others have used lancets and lots of pressure. Also if you come early, you can use their foot massage machine and drink tea and eat free ice cream. I found the hair salon I am going to stick with for life. A few of my friends had tried Vann and had loved it but those stylists were no longer here. So when I found a groupon, I was skeptical but nevertheless wanted to try them out. I was assigned a Senior Stylist - Charley Tuck and Charley was amazing. I got my hair cut (layers with steps), single process hair color, gloss treatment and partial balayage to tone down my existing highlights. Charley did a phenomenal job. Loved the layers and the color which complimented my skin tone. The chocolate natural brown hair color was really good and blend really well with my highlights. I usually walk into any hair salon with a single reference picture to make it easy for the stylist and Charley patiently saw the pic discussed options and worked his magic on my hair. He explained all the products he used and did not seem to be selling them me like some folks do at salons. In fact I really appreciated his honest opinion on certain products I was using vs the one he was using on my hair (they use products by Eufora). All in all it took me 3 hours to get all my hair thingy done and it was top quality. This salon also has a no tip policy. For parking, I usually keep my car in the UPark lot adjacent to the salon cos most of public paid parking is for 2 hours max and you will have to move your car in between your hair day. Super easy to get an appointment via email. The team is very responsive, accommodating and clarified all my doubts before hand which made it easy on the day of my appointment. Their prices are very reasonable and surprise me sometimes (in a good way). All in all I had an amazing experience here and I will be coming back again for getting all my hair needs addressed. read more

My 12 year old daughter had a wonderful experience with Kerriana. My daughter had a crazy idea to add white/silver (money) pieces to her look. I knew going to a professional salon was the way to go. Bleach is not something I trust myself with. Kerriana and her co-worker Charlie were great with my daughter. The explained the process and maintenance to her in great detail. Try new things. New to salons but I booked an appointment and waited for past reservation but eventually Antonio was ready for me. Him being the expert I trusted in his vision and so he snipped away, applied some serum (which I was assured was good for the tattoos I don't have) and your boy was good to go! Being a salon newbie, I wasn't sure how it would turn out. Wasn't bad, very similar to when I walked in. The whole process only took 25 minutes, which was nice, but I wouldn't have minded a bit more attention to detail or services? They kept the price a secret until the end, and those 25 minutes ended up costing over $100, which was a bit of a shock for just a slight trim. At least I didn't go for a full cut! No need to tip, which takes away the motivation to really go above and beyond, but it did keep the price from going even higher so I'll take it. I was recommended to see Forest, but he wasn't available, so I went with someone else. Maybe it would have been a different experience with him? I doubt I'll find out anytime soon, considering the cost. I feel like I could have achieved a similar result with a pair of scissors at home. Well, at least I can say I've been to a fancy salon now and don't feel the need to go back anytime soon. In summation if you're in a rush, like your current hairstyle and are overburdened with money then I highly recommend this shop. read more
