I sat 20 minutes after being seated by hostess - no one came near me. they have terrible service. After 20 minutes, a waitress finally arrived and took my order - which was nothing too hard - just one of their beef sandwich specials. Twenty more minutes later it still had not shown up and I gave up. This location is giving the franchise a really bad name. Every other one I have visited (and I like Swiss Chalet) are fast and have good food. I have been to this location before and have found the time between ordering and receiving the food to be really long - but this time the whole experience was exceptionally bad. read more

I had a less than ideal takeout experience the last time I ordered from the Sault Ste Marie location (meal was late, missing items, etc). I contacted the restaurant immediately and was offered another meal delivery but I declined the offer since I already had a meal. I was then offered a discount on my next order. I claimed that offer this evening and was extremely happy with everything. The service was very friendly, on time and delicious. They went above and beyond with my order this time. Awful experience.... First of all tried to call and book a reservation and you have to go through a call center.... I got transferred 3 times before I finally got through to the store. The girl that I spoke with said that they don't have a number to call until they get it sorted out. Once our party of 6 arrived we ordered and they told us that the menu wasn't right but that they will have a new menu tomorrow so a lot of the things on the menu you couldn't order. We finally ordered and they screwed up 3 of the 6 orders. Instead of offering to bring the correct items out they just said they wouldn't charge for the items they did bring. Also we waiting for 40 min to get our food when 5 tables around us came after and got their food first. Not a good way to start a new re-opening. Made an online order for pick up. My husband Picked up the order with my name on it. Got home with the order but my meal which was supposed to be Nashville chicken tenders dinner- 5 tenders on a piece of Texas toast, dipping sauce, coleslaw, pickles and a side ( fries). I got 5 sort of tenders and a small box if fries. Called the store and the automated phone recording only loops you through the choices so you never connect. Called the long distance customer service number and the person was very polite and offered me a credit for my messed up meal. Also couldn't explain why I paid the full price instead if the CAA member price even though my online order confirmation said I got the 10% discount. After waiting for over 45 minutes for our simple open chicken sandwiches festive meal, we had to ask for the missed gravy and forgotten cranberry sauce. Then was shocked when my $16 some dollar priced meal came to $21 some dollars, because I had white meat and my side was sweet potatoes fries. (I would have had a more pricy steak) I was not told that these items cost more. I was trying to keep the price and meal choice low for my boyfriend. I felt bad. During the dark, cold Ontario winters, the smallish town of Soo rolls up many of its sidewalks. A drive down the main avenues reveals very few lit Open signs in any of the restaurant windows. We made one such drive at 6 PM on a weekday. This one appeared to be popular which looked encouraging enough to be our pick. There's no shortage of parking in the lot. Inside, the laquered wood interior reminded me of an Original Pancake House but the glass display case of pies shouted Marie Callendar's. A glance at the menu brings the realization that you are at a poultry-centric version of a TGI Friday or Applebee's which is again a mystery given the name of this chain. I've learned after many disastrous picks that you stick with what makes them famous. I don't have a huge appetite at night so I picked the plain chicken breast meal which comes from one of their famous rotisserie chickens. My companion picked a larger meal with fries, ribs and a dark chicken quarter. He said everything was ok, except for the chicken which was awesome enough for a second visit. Don't know if he made good on that bet because I left before he did. The price point is slightly better than one of the steakhouses and Italian restaurants I know were open but be prepared for chain-level quality. read more

Short review: worst restaurant ever! Long review: My family and I eat out quite often so we have many opportunities to go to different restaurants. We were visiting Sault Ste. Marie Ontario and decided to try a Canadian restaurant. The Swiss Chalet was near our hotel so we decided to eat there. When we arrived I went in to check on the wait status and was informed that there was immediate seating. We were happy there was no wait. This was the last happy experience we had. When the waiter came by two of our party had gone to the bathroom to wash their hands. We asked the waiter to come back in a couple of minutes. He never returned. After 20 minutes of waiting I spoke to another waitress and asked her to have our waiter come back. When he returned he apologized and took our order. Unfortunately he had sweat coming off his face which fell into our drinking glasses. I went to the bar and replaced them. We were having a nice time talking, despite the sweat into the glass, but were getting hungry. After 45 minutes of waiting for our food I located the manager to find out what was happening. I informed him that we had been there for well over an hour and it had been 45 minutes since our food order was taken. He located our waiter to ask what was happening and was told that our food would be out shortly. After an additional 10 to 15 minutes our food arrived. We began eating. One of our party had ordered a half slab of ribs with wings. The menu said the ribs were fall off the bone tender. These ribs, however, were so tough that they could not be cut. No one came to our table to ask how the food was. After waiting around five minutes I located the manager again and explained what occurred. He came over and looked at the ribs and saw that they were very tough and difficult to cut, as well as fat laden. He finally agreed to have them re-done. Since it was now almost 90 minutes after we sat down, I asked how long this will take. He assured us that he would put a rush on it. After 10 or so minutes the replacement food arrived. The person from the kitchen set the food down and immediately left. When we looked at it, we saw that it was the wrong order. I located the manager and explained what occurred. He was not familiar with his own menu and did not realize that it was the wrong order until we pointed it out. He did offer to comp that portion of the meal since it was the wrong order and since we were not willing to wait for them to make the third attempt to get it right. This was my first experience at any Swiss Chalet and will definitely be my last. Based on the level of service, the quality of food and the complaints from at least seven other tables while I was there, I expect this restaurant will be out of business in less of the year. If there was a way to give negative stars, this restaurant would deserve it. read more

it is now 9:55pm. I have left, walked to Taco Bell, ordered and walked back to the hotel. Why no chicken? The hours may say till ten but the placed is closed to service by 9:30 A couple walked in 5 minutes after I had entered and been intentionally and completely ignored. When they walked into the seating area a woman told them they were too late, no service. This normally happens when some manager pays only until closing but expects the hour it takes to clean and prep for the next day to be done for free. I won't be back read more

Went in on a Tuesday and got seated fairly quickly but after being seated I waited 25+ minutes before even having my drink order taken. The table next to me got their food few minutes after I sat down and they were all finished eating before my food order was taken. I ordered my usual double leg and fries. Once I got my food half hr plus later it was all cold. I was pretty well done eating before the waitress even came back to check on me. Normally I love Swiss Chalet but this branch has really pissed me off. I called to place an order and had only given them my phone number when they hung up on me. I called back and was promptly hung up on AGAIN. I finally got through a third time and managed to put an order in, only to be told they don't accept debit on delivery. I'm at work and don't have cash on me. So I ordered Pita Pit instead. read more
