Swissbakers is a great cafe! I've tried the chocolate croissant and spinach & cheese croissant and they are both delicious. More filling than your usual croissant! Both were offered to me warmed up too. The lattes are also good! My friend recently had the BLT sandwich really liked it, "good tomatoes" and lots of bacon. The quality and prices cannot be beat! Casually walked into this cafe to look at their pastries. We had brunch right before and slightly regretted our decision because this cafe had yummy and simple breakfast items on their menu - it would've been a much quicker and delicious meal. We took home the nutella berliner and raspberry linzer cookie(pretty large size!) The pastries were delicious (especially loved the linzer) and the man at the register was so welcoming and happy! We walked away leaving a smile on each other's faces (under our masks). Would love to come back here for breakfast and a hot tea/coffee. read more

I had a really positive experience here today. I was having a bad day and decided to pop in while I waited for my bus. The man at the register was so cheerful and kind to everyone who came in, myself included. He totally made my day (I hope he reads this, we seriously need more people like him in this world!!) My chai latte was delicious and the pretzel was great. Everything looked super yummy. If I'm in the area again, I will definitely stop by because it was just such a positive place!! Wonderful service and a great place to set up a corner office for an hour or two with a delicious soy latte. Their pretzels w mustard is an addiction. Wish they would introduce some substantial vegan options like Caffe Nero's breakfast roll or even a vegan croissant (whole foods makes them well) with Just Egg and vegan cheese w the option of Beyond breakfast sausage. Also a vegan Chocolate Weggli would be perfect. Taza provides a fine vegan mouse to restaurants in the area. Popped into Swissbäkers earlier today to grab a snack and some coffee on our way into town, with the wife. We had driven by the place possibly hundreds of times without giving it a second thought but today was finally the day. We pulled into their ample parking lot and walked in. It was around 3:30PM and it wasn't very busy. A few tables were occupied but we had to take everything to go. Having lived for just over a year and a half in Basel myself, I was looking forward to snacking on an authentic Swiss pastry. Having perused their website a little while ago, I was expecting most of their stuff to be available but unfortunately the selection was pretty meagre. I was able to buy a Swiss Linzer, which was delicious and the wife box a little bag of their chocolate-covered macaroons which she liked but said were too sweet. The coffee was average at best. Unfortunately I didn't see any of their Leckerli or Prussien, or even chocolate Wegglis. I didn't see any of their breads either but they did have a ton of savory items. The service behind the counter was slow, not all that friendly and they made us walk on the opposite side to pay, and then all the way back around to get our items. It was very confused. I'd like to give them another shot at some point in hopes that they'll redeem themselves because this business is unique and family-owned and I would love to see this place thrive. read more

I'm giving this 4 stars because who really reads a 5-star review? I want you to listen to what I have to say. I went there Sunday morning after having read the other reviews and was worried about what I'd get. I was a little apprehensive about the "overly friendly staff" and the "bad coffee". My boyfriend and I arrived and were not greeted like a funhouse at the town fair. The atmosphere was nice and you could tell it was very kid-friendly. I had read on their website that they have all-you-can-eat brunch on Sundays. In fact it is Saturday and Sunday for $14.95. The super knowledgeable and friendly staff Michael explained to us the whole set-up (includes cafe sandwiches), allowed my boyfriend and I to share the all-you-can-eat brunch (I have a notoriously small appetite) and even offered a free drink besides our OJ and my boyfriend's large coffee! We overstuffed our plate (and ourselves) and later went back for extra scrambled eggs, bacon, brie slices, fruit salad and OJ! My boyfriend said the coffee wasn't that bad either. The experience was so great and the food was delicious, I bought a truckload of assorted pastries to bring back to my family and my boyfriend's housemates. We will definitely be returning and you should check it out too! read more

It's so nice to have a great bakery just down the road from school! And a very unique one at that. There are so many options to choose from most of them have names that make no sense. But don't worry! Since everything is so affordable you should just get one of everything! They are perfectly sized too. I love the pretzel roll sandwich. The options are kind of confusing (I hate constructing my own sandwich) but waiters there are happy to assist you and help you with the process. Most of the bread there is great. But strawberry cake is amazing too! The cream is obviously freshly made in house and so delicate. On weekends they do an all you can eat brunch but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Skip the coffee next time too- it's kind of weak. That's why a four star instead of a five. Atmosphere wise I love the place, especially the communal table. It's a great place to meet nice people or just study for a bit. read more

I am actually gonna give them 3.5 stars. I loves me some almond croissant so I was excited when a good friend highly recommended this bakery. It was good overall. It was defintely fresh and flakey but I am bit spoiled by having been to Europe and had amazing pastry. The almond filling/breading ratio did not work. The almond filling was also sweeter than it really should be. What is lovely about Eropean pastries is the fact that they are not overly sugared. That being said a fresh croissant (pastry) here still beats anthing else in the usually coffee places. The two saving graces - This place has an open floor plan and space is clean. I was there at a quiet time during the week but it seemed so spacious which I loved. The other thing was the coffee. I am willing to admit that I am not a coffee drinker but today I decided to give it try so I got a mocha. First, the mocha was $2 for 8 ounces... what? I was floored - what a great price and the coffee was extremely flavorful. When I was asked if I enjoyed myself, I told the manager how muuch I liked the coffee. Turns out their buyer is the guy who used to own Coffee Connection ... A place I would go to when I was younger and loved and really miss. read more

I had no clue what swissbakers was. This morning my plan was to go to the breakfast club that happens to be down the street. While driving to the breakfast club, I noticed the massive line out the door so I kept driving, and figured I would make my way elsewhere. Down the street happened to be a building with a big cow on the top, which made me think that this place was a hamburger joint or something.... Seeing people outside eating with the nice weather enticed me, so my boyfriend googled the location and found out that it was a bakery/cafe! Since we were approaching lunch hours we figured that we would pop in to check it out! I ordered a ham sandwich on a pretzel roll (small) with Swiss cheese, lettuce, and pesto, toasted. It was absolutely delicious! I've never had a pretzel roll like this before and I didn't know that a little cafe like this existed in the area. I also ordered an iced coffee (one size) and had the ability to add my own flavored cream. I'm not sure if they usually have other flavored cream but today they had options of vanilla and hazelnut. After sitting down outside, which was pretty awesome, we brought our plates in and noticed that they have a huge selection of macaroons. I've never had a macaroon before but I'm constantly seeing pictures of them online, so I figured we could get two of them to split, since it would be a nice small treat. We ordered one banana/chocolate and vanilla/cherry. The guy behind the counter accidentally gave us a different one that I noticed wouldn't be one of the two we ordered, so I made sure to let him know as he was putting them on the plate. This worker gave us the extra macaroon, which ended up being an amazing flavor that I wouldn't have ordered before. (I think it was green apple) I also ordered a pastry that reminded me of a donut, with chocolate in the middle. It tasted more like fried dough, but it was INCREDIBLE. Totally worth a cheat day on your diet. :) One thing I do have to say, is that the prices were a tad high. Like $3.25 for a coffee, that you end up making yourself. Plenty of seating and plenty of options, along with friendly and attentive staff. I will definitely come back another day!! read more

The employees were busy gabbing, but pleasantly, so it took them a minute to get my order. The mocha was what you'd expect from a sorta-coffee shop, and the pastry was dry. Had the most delicious Linzer cookie from here. It was buttery, just sweet enough, and the best part is that it had no powdered sugar on it. (I, at least. Always end up wearing half of that!) I love the look of the place too. Very modern and sunny due to all the windows. They have a wall of floor to ceiling photos of the Swiss Alps on the side of the building that you can pose in front of for some pretty convincing photos, and there's a red cow on the roof. Came here for the first time to get the all you can eat weekend brunch. First of all, the brunch server (Michael M.) was amazing; he was very good at explaining how the brunch worked and what all the food was, was generous with helpings, and was overall very welcoming. There was a good variety of brunch food and most was very satisfying; eggs, challah bread, bacon, and cheese hit the spot, but the Swiss toast and hash browns were just okay. We also had a almond croissant and chocolate hazelnut bread, both of which were good. The raspberry preserves is AMAZING; I was disappointed that they don't sell it to go. The Nutella Berliner and Almond Croissants were fabulous, coffee was good, and fresh squezzed orange juice was excellent. It is nice to see Swissbakers on the uppity up, and enjoying success. Thomas (owner) told us that they (Swissbakers) have resumed their catering operations. I didn't ask about Farmer's Markets, but that season is not far away. read more

(Note: this review is for their location in Boston Public Market) Soft pretzels are one of my favorite foods. Salty, soft, with a tang from the mustard. Unfortunately, Swissbäkers in Boston Public Market misses the mark. I went twice. The first visit was poor, so I gave them a second chance a couple months later. Unfortunately, both visits were negative experiences. Their pretzels were cold, very dry, and not soft. A far cry from the warm, soft, moist pretzels that you would expect from a bakery. They also nickel-and-dime you in a way that feels cheap and tacky: it's an extra $0.50 for mustard. I would understand if it was a sort of special, house-made, luxury mustard, but it was not. It tasted like any run-of-the-mill spicy brown mustard that you'd find in a grocery store. The service was also sub-par. The employees seemed angry and annoyed. I have purchased food from there twice, but I have walked by it plenty of times; every time I walk by, the employees behind the counter look as if they'd rather be anywhere but there. When I asked to buy the mustard for my pretzel (after realizing, confusedly, that they are charging me for a condiment), the employee was very annoyed. Overall, an unfortunately solidly negative experience. I will try again in a few months' time to see if my experience is repeated again. read more

Well, there goes my diet! Just as I'm shedding my winter weight, I discover an amazing new bakery less than a half mile from my apartment. Thanks a lot, Swissbäkers. So right before you walk in, there's a sign to the right of the entrance that says guest hugging hours. I entered with a smiley giggle. Always a good start. The staff this morning was super helpful and explained everything well. I started off with a medium coffee. It was a gooood coffee. I appreciated that. I started off with a vegetable quiche. The crust was flakey buttery delicious and horrible for you. The filling was a very thin layer of eggyness, topped with tomato, broccoli and I forget because I was so damn hungry I inhaled it. Yum. I did not quite understand how the donuts were less horrible than most for you. Apparently it's a butter dough and that repels oil?!? I'm not convinced. You said it was butter dough... Only sadnesses... I asked what time they started doing sandwiches; the lady said they could at any hour. I then proceeded to order a sandwich. She said they weren't set up for that yet this morning. WHY DID YOU TEMPT ME THEN?!? Instead I got cheesey croissants for my lunch, which actually only made it to 10AM, but whatever. Also, no soy milk. I don't think this place is vegan friendly, at all, with their butter donuts and all. Although I am sad about no sandwich for lunch, I came back to get one at another time. Went there to meet a friend for coffee and a pastry. First time. I had a soft pretzel and doughnut. Both were dry as cardboard. My friend's experience was similar. I don't know how her coffee was. I ordered Chai Spice tea and got a cup of hot water with a tea bag. Really?! Will not be visiting this place again. They make sandwiches as well; perhaps those are better than what we found. Quiet spot in the Allston/HBS area that has a HUGE parking lot. Win! I can't believe I've been living so close to this spot and did not know it was there. It's next to a lot of recent construction of residential areas and I know this spot is going to be the next big thing once a huge influx of people start living there. Coffee options are plentiful and there are many pastries - no real food though. A cool thing to try could be the Swiss Hot Chocolate (looks unique - but didn't try it). It's a good place to get some work done and its very uncrowded so you won't have trouble finding a good place to work. Service is meh, but it shouldn't really matter at this point. It's funny that I lived right by here for 3 years and it took until I moved out of the city to try it here. The idea of going here was very exciting, and I wish I could say that I am still just as excited after eating here, but thats not quite the case. While I know they specialize in baked goods, I just expected more variety of food options, given that the are a more than just a Bakery. One thing guaranteed is that the pastries, baked goods, breads, cakes, croissants will be fresh, warm, delicious, flavorful, and decadent. They have mastered the art, flavor, and technique of baking. On the weekends, they also offer unlimited brunch (for $16) which looked delicious, but did not have any option of only picking portions of the brunch. They only offer 2 breakfast sandwiches, and only 4-5 lunch sandwiches. I just wish they had more options and more to choose from, as I would have ordered more, but there wasn't much more on the menu! Or even having more flexibility within the menu. While they do have probably +20 different types of pastries, I feel like a breakfast place needs variety as you can't really manage more than one pastry at a time. Thus, it's a great place to grab a baked good, but I would love to see them expand their sandwich/salad/ croissant menu even more. I just felt like there were some staples missing from their menu, that left me feeling a little disappointed when I could only order a pastry due to limited other options. Very, very, very good! My wife and I went to the Ashmont Farmers Market and Swiss bakers were there. The white loaf of breath was delicious. My wife also got the pretzels. Both stayed fresh for 3 days. Can't wait to go back and try the Whole wheat bread! read more
