I thought I'd try this new pizza place in Emmaus. From their other Yelp page it seems this business started as a stand at the Emmaus Farmer's market. Parking might be an issue at this location when it gets crowded; a lot of their neighbors are parked around this building. I figured for my first visit I'd keep it simple so I ordered their Margherita pizza. It looks like they only make personal size pizzas. Mine was tasty, thought I would have liked a little more basil. Can't say enough great things about this place. All the food is amazing. Their wood fired Pizza is the best in the valley....salads are amazing and the ricotta cheese cake is to die for! First time here and won't come back. Was looking forward to coming here due in part to the cute outside area and fresh ingredients. Walked in and was ignored for about 10 minutes, while standing at the register as employees wizzed by. We sat at the counter directly in front of the register, and was still ignored. Had to tell someone to get us water and put our order in. Place had a decent amount of people for a Friday night but took way too long for 1 pizza to come to us. When it came the server threw it down and it flew off the tray, which he decided to catch with his bare hands and walked away. Pizza dough was gummy and not properly cooked, and the top was mostly charred. We left and got food elsewhere. Overall seems like it is very poorly run, disorganized, and the servers, who are running around like crazy, are also in the back making the salads and other apps. read more

The pizza from what I remember was good. Waited 40 min for a table we never got. Host person told us 10 min...5 minutes later she came back and asked us if we were there to pick up an order. Waited another 30 minutes and was never seated, although others who walked in several minutes to a half hour were seated. Their food isn't that good to wait and be ignored for a table. read more

I called to place an order 3x and no answer at 6:00 on a Saturday so we went there to order. When I asked server why they didn't pick up phone she said they were too busy. Hmm only 3 couples at tables. Then pizza maker (owner?)came over to server and told her no more phone orders. How do you turn down business??? I ordered 2 pizzas and told 20 min. While waiting the other owner was making pizza with a baby on her back in some sort of backpack. Oh how cute until the kid wet coughed over her head where she was making pizza. YUCK. I should've canceled my order then. Finally 30 min later got my pizzas and paid $28 for two personal size pizzas. Hey I'm all for local sourcing but come on pricing could be better. Maybe I am spoiled after living in DC and having &Pizza but this place just didn't do it for me. The crust was good but I honestly would have liked it more dense. I have had the pleasure of dining at this cute establishment once. I was really impressed with their simple decor, and delicious menu. I had the meatball pizza. It is such a treat to have a new non-chain restaurant come to Emmaus and I am hopeful that more independent restaurants will make the move as well. I lived on the West coast for 4 years and it definitely has that clean and hip vibe that you would find out that way. The young couple who own this cute place that used to be a train station are passionate about the food they serve and know that good food is made from good ingredients. The staff is very friendly. It is a small place and the ingredients are locally sourced. We ordered two pizzas, the happy pig and the marguerita with carmelized onions. The crust was excellent. There were very few onions on the margarita pizza and my husband ordered a coke which we never received. But the reason I only gave a three star rating was that it lacked flavor, it wasn't hot and it's very pricey for what you get. read more

I've had Switchback a few times now, and never tire of it. It is soooo delicious. Everything is fresh and tasty. My favorite is Blue Moon...cannot get enough of it. I think I might want it every night. Most pizza places have doughy crust that overtakes the pizza, but not at Switchback. Their crust is amazing, soft but chewy and perfect texture. Best pizza in town! Neapolitan style personal sized pizza cooked in a wood-fired oven. The pizzas are made fresh in front you after you order. The dough is thin and formed by hand. The cheeses and toppings are all high end and mostly local. It's a real treat to have a good fresh mozzarella over the standard shredded stuff. I've tried a few salads and desserts as well and it's all great. The building used to be the old railroad station. Some of the building has been restored and the wood slab countertops are cozy to sit at. read more

I stopped in here with my husband two weeks ago, and I was already charmed before walking in the door to recognize it as a converted railroad station. We shared a delish fresh salad that the chef whipped up right in front of our eyes, followed by a pizza (I think it was called the Blue Moon pizza)that had gorgonzola and caramelized onions on it - two ingredients you can never go wrong with, and on this fresh pizza fired up right there on the spot, simply excellent. The portions are not huge, but two people sharing a salad and sharing a large pizza should satisify each person. I recommend the Kutztown Birch Beer. My husband loved his hibiscus iced tea. All the ingredients are locally sourced. The chef and staff had a backwards and forwards knowledge of their menu and where the ingredients came from, as well as the history of the small building - yes it used to be a passenger waiting room! read more

Small little place with lots of flavor! First of all, brick ovens always give you that little extra flavor you do get out of a regular oven. Only pizza and salad served here. Wife had the special- bok choi pesto on bacon and green onions. Loved it. I have the manly pepperoni. Really good. I was excited to try Switchback pizza after all the buzz, but unfortunately food did not quite hit the mark. Purchased Blue Moon pizza which was the best of the bunch,with a good amount of gorgonzola,onion and portabella mushrooms. The Margherita pizza was very disappointing,with little flavor, a rubbery crust and a too sparse sprinkling of basil. The veggie lovers was practically inedible. There was barely any cheese or sauce on the pie,and the toppings of kale,onion and mushrooms were just piled on the top of the limp crust. I don't know if the oven was not hot enough, but the crusts on all my pies were really a big disappointment.For the small pies and high prices I was expecting a much more gourmet experience,and unfortunately the pizza at Switchback fell far short of the many artisan pizzas I have tried in the valley. read more
