Ah yes, da Swizzzzz... The Swizzle Inn(aka the Swizz) is a total neighborhood dive bar that appears to be the bastard child of Archie Bunker and Ellen DeGeneres. Most of its patrons are either old barflies or gay women. The owners are a couple in their late 50s or so. The husband is kind of a neutral while the wife(Beth) is a very volatile unpredictable mean drunk. Beth is as stable as a one legged table in a puddle of WD40. While many of its patrons are nice enough, the bar lends itself to a very strange crowd stemming from the very old, to some younger decent folk to the very lesbian. While the lesbian crowd is harmless enough, that crowd is undoubtedly drawn by its female owner(Beth) who appears to be struggling with her own sexuality and anger issues, possibly stemming from the fact that she may not yet be fully out of the closet, at least not when her husband is around. This may explain her latent anger towards men when she gets drunk. In all fairness, I have heard that she is a nice person when she is sober but nobody can validate that since the occasion is too rare to be measured statistically. Many many locals know about the owner Beth and there are so many corroborating tales to be ignored. However, if you are quiet enough and willing to blend in without trying to have too much fun as to make it onto Beth's man hating radar, then the Swizzle Inn may be what you are looking for. But one false move or perceived false move or for no reason at all, you may find yourself banned faster than a 6 pack of beer disappearing at an AA reunion. One last thing, the bartenders there are also inconsistent, so if you are looking for a well poured drink, you may spend quite a bit of money finding out which of the bartenders actually knows what they are doing. You are officially "in the know." read more

Ok, so my last review was removed by the all powerful Yelp censorship team hard at work. Kudos to them. Anyhow, I will attempt to give my review once again. The Swizzle Inn is a very strange place. It has really really old people who might actually be dead but nobody told them. It also has semi-old people in there who are harmless enough. Also, there are many gay women (many of them local cops). I feel safe crime-wise but sometimes feel like I just dropped the soap in the local prison shower. This place really isn't that bad except for the fact that the owner, who we will not name so my review doesn't get yanked, is a complete whackjob! This lady(I use that word lady very sarcastically,duh) is almost always drunk and I think she graduated at the top of her class at the Ike Turner school of charm. If you want to get lost in the smell of old people or just want to see lots of taco munchers getting together to congratulate themselves on not needed men, then by all means, go for it. read more

This is a great bar. You come, you drink, you repeat. It is not hip or cool, nor will it ever be, but you are always welcome at this bar without being judged. Whether I feel like chugging cheap beer in cutoffs or sipping white wine in stilettos, I never ever feel like I'm being eyed or judged by the bartenders or the regulars. This happens sometimes at dive bars- it's like reverse snobbery- if God Forbid a girl has on high heels people sometimes assume you suck Scottsdale Yuppee balls and they get on their dive bar high-horse. Not here. The patrons are as varied and eclectic as it gets. Sure you've got your grey-hairs with their butt-imprints on the stools, but you also have corporate after-work types (who really do want a dive bar not a I-want-to-be-seen-being-divey), your hipsters, your cowboys, your hot young chicks, your random toothless guy, your everyday Joe's. The drinks are cheap and the [female] bartenders are always, always welcoming, friendly, and relaxed. read more

When there once and was the last time. Was charged for a drink I never received. Because I didn't get drink made sure it was taken off my tab before I left. It was still charged. Called the manager the next day and somehow remembered serving me that drink was very argumentative. She also accused the person I was with at the bar of getting very drunk and throwing up all over the place. I told her you are thinking of the wrong people that didn't happen with us. The manager is one of those women who is never wrong. So I disputed the charge with my bank and got my money back. Not a good way to run a business. Don't know why anyone would want to go there the service was slow too. Waited 10 minutes to get first drink and like I said second drink never came. read more

As someone who manages a bar, I generally keep an open mind going into a new place. That was quickly closed when the owner of the bar came absolutely unglued, using obscene language and profanities towards our group. After her tirade of foul language and threatening gestures she then told us to leave or she'd have us arrested. Mind you this is the woman who was threatening physical violence against us not 10 minutes before. If you'd like to be treated as a CUSTOMER, and not a whipping pole, I'd suggest ANY other bar. If you'd like to be treated like absolute garbage by a raging alcoholic, head on in. The bar tenders were ok, but clearly not fast paced enough to handle our group of 12. read more

This place is garbage. The fact that the owner can literally ASSAULT a person, let alone a long standing patron who brings TONS of business to this shit hole is a joke! And for the bartender to say "Oh ya, we're cool!" after said patron returns to apologize for SOMEONE ELSES behavior, only to turn around and talk shit about that person as soon as they walk out of the door is disgusting! If you're looking for decent or even fabulous 5-star dive bar, congratulations! You've found what you were looking for! Here some tip from me: even though the place is worth to fight for a free table at, it's still better not to visit it on Saturdays, so crowded! I guess it's a good sign as the rest of Phoenix dive bars may be completely empty at this time, but Swizzle Inn isn't at all! I had been here last year for Satsang and in the short time between it has seemed to deteriorate. The bartenders are overwhelmed and the only ones working are the men. My husband told me he tried several times to get the attention of one of the ladies and she turned her back to him. Also an experience I had with the ladies last time I was here. There was an incident where a girl slipped on water that was puddled on the floor and fell face first, knocking herself unconscious for a couple of minutes during the set for post crucifixion, and only my husband and I helped her, despite there being security there. I even tried once more to get the attention of a gal behind the bar with short black hair to get a towel to pick up the spill and she would not even turn to face me. I cleaned the spill myself by reaching over the bar and grabbing napkins, since the employees didn't seem to care. That will be the last time I attend this venue. I don't believe they care about their patrons and the staff is pretty rude.

It was really good and refreshing. My friend had the Jiminy Cricket which was a mint and chocolate vodka drink. Both drinks were very pretty. The furniture and decor had an early 20th century feel and was on par with the prohibition era. There's a decent amount of seating, though it filled up fast. The music that was playing was good, but very loud. We only had one drink because we didn't want to stand in line again for a second round. Despite the wait, Melinda's Alley was a cool spot to start our night.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Came here for the men's national championship game,…read morenot busy, only 4 other tables sat. They had a limited menu "for faster service" - told us they didn't have wings, which is fine. Ordered a pizza, 2 burgers, and chicken tenders. 30 minutes after we ordered, they told us they were out of pizza dough. Not sure why that wasn't told to us right away, so we ordered another burger instead. Food took another 30 minutes to come out after that and the last burger we ordered in place of the pizza came out after everyone was already done eating. Tots were undercooked, burger was basic, should've went to inn and out instead. A table got sat 45 minutes after us, must've known the workers there because they were chatting a lot, got their food 10 minutes after they ordered and before us. Not a great look. Will not be back.
