Finally made it to The Starving Artist. This place has a warm, artsy bar vibe that immediately pulls you in. There's soft lighting, eclectic artwork, and a cozy, creative vibe that makes it easy to settle in with a drink. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the service was friendly with a relaxed pace that fit the atmosphere. I had the pizza by the slice, I tried the Dill Pickle and the Korean Pizza slices. These were really good and different. Definitely full of flavor! This place is absolutely worth a visit for good bites and a bar that feels like a neighborhood hideaway.

I think the starving artist is a really fun place! They also have a great happy hour as pictured here with the receipt and. And a lovely cocktail menu as well as great beers from OSHO. I love that you can get any of their pizzas by the slice and they're all really tasty this month. Special was the loaded potato and it was really good! Service is always very friendly in here and it has a cool ambience

I freakin loved this place. I don't know why it took me so long to try it. The vibe and decor is great, the bartenders are friendly and attentive and the Pizza. OMG. The Dill pickle pizza and the street corn pizza are soooo good. If you're considering it. Just go!

Friend ordered 2 pizzas for us for takeout. We came in to pick it up and wow what a festive place! It's decorated nicely for Christmas on the inside but even walking up there's skeletons with candy canes pretty intense. Inside there were darts, pool tables, and various TV's playing sports, shows, and even anime on one TV. Definitely a chill place to hang out. The pizzas were the cheese and the roycerroni which had I believe burrata cheese spiraled around pep. Very good pizzas. Crispy and dough bites with robust sauce and fresh toppings. Can taste that cheese and pepperoni are of a higher quality. Would love to eat there in person the drink menu looked really nice at reasonable prices

Omg the pizza here is amazing! We ordered the roycerroni which comes with pepperoni, hot honey, calabrian chilis. It was enough for 2-3 slices per person. But for us 3 it was perfect. For a group of 4 I would say you need 2 pizzas. The chilis were too spicy for me so I took those off but it was perfect without it. My husband and his friend said it wasn't too spicy at all and they loved the chilis so I'm just sensitive to spice and I need to build up my tolerance lol. I also ordered the loaded baked potato dip and we shared the cookie skillet. Omg it was amazing both of those. The loaded baked potato dip is a must! It actually filled me up so much I was only able to a slice and a half of the pizza. The cookie skillet too was the perfect ending. I really like this place I would definitely go back. The food is delicious so are the drinks and it's like having dinner in a museum after dark. There's lots of paintings and pool tables, darts and the place is just a whole vibe. It would be fun to just come here for drinks and games. 5 stars for sure!

My wife has had this place on her of places to visit for a minute so last night we decided to try it There was a wait for a table inside but the patio, while a bit warm initially, was comfortable You have to walk up to the bar to order food and drinks, but they will bring it to you I had a Pretty in Pink vodka, cocchi americano, strawberry, mint, lime, soda deliciously refreshing, with noticable but not overwhelming strawberry and mint STUFFED GRAPE LEAVES with tzatziki, chopped olives, EVOO, feta cheese, Za Tar, fresh parsley These were not great; the rice was mushy, the leaves weren't super fresh, the layer of feta they're served on was WAY too rich, and there was no discernible lemony flavor For food we ordered three slices of pizza DILL PICKLE PIZZA garlic white sauce, cheese blend, ricotta, dill pickle chips, buttermilk dressing, & fresh dill The flavor wasn't bad but there was far too much dill for my tastes ROYCERRONI pizza sauce, cheese blend, cup & crisp pepperonis, calabrian chiles, honey, ricotta I love the cup pepperoni, and the heat and flavor from the calabrian chilies, but it builds fast and can overwhelm HAWAIIAN red sauce, cheese blend, shaved ham, jalapeño, basil, caramelized bourbon pineapple Flavor was pretty good but the jalapenos really bring the heat, and combined with the calabrian chilies from the other slice it got a bit excessive CUBANO SLIDERS 3 sliders, shredded pork, black forest ham, mojo sauce, swiss, pickles, dijonaisse These did not hit at all, the pork should really stand out and this didn't I would possibly return for cocktails, but the food was a let down, and given the wait for seating I would probably go elsewhere We did enjoy a game of pool on the patio Probably won't return or recommend

The service here was fantastic. Love the vibe, very contemporary, hipster-ish feel to it. They do have a lot of couch seating, similar to culinary dropout if you're familiar with that style. I wish I took more pics, but I did get the Big Lebowski painting from the bathroom so that'll have to do haha. There's pool tables, steel darts, arcade games, and claw games as well. The drinks were fast and tasty, not super expensive (~$12-15) and they have some great food options. Didn't get to try the seasonal pizza last time, but we'll be back to do so later. Overall, a fun, calm little bar with great pizza and decently affordable cocktails.

Eclectic lounge and dive bar vibes. I stopped by on a Friday night when I had no other plans. There was a small parking lot out front, which was mostly full, but thankfully I snagged a close spot next to the Van Gogh mural to the left of the entrance! I walked straight in, and since it was very crowded both at the booths and bar stools, I requested assistance finding somewhere to sit. There were games, anime on a projector, and I believe another separate room with pool I never explored. I ordered the August cocktail of the month, the Kawaii, comprised of roku gin, #gin, guava, lemon, lychee, and miso with a rose foam *contains dairy*, for $15. The drink was sizeable, but overall taste too subtle in my opinion. The flavors blended together but were still overall uninteresting. I just wanted an excuse to dress up and drink despite having no one to go with, and The Starving Artist passed the vibe check! While I didn't love my drink, I'd be down to come again for a chill girl's night out and try more of their creative concoctions.

I stopped by the Starving Artist again the other night as I really enjoyed it the last time I was there. First I turned into the little parking lot and there were no available spots, so I went around the block and noted there is lots of additional spots on 22nd but did think if it was really busy it may be hard to find any parking. I sat at the bar again and noted that the bar seats are super comfy and I love a bar with a hook for my purse. I missed happy hour as it is from 3-6pm but was wanting some wine and first ordered the pinot grigio which was $13 for a well poured glass -- I just didn't care for the wine that much. So I switched to the Sav Blanc and it was much better. I didn't notice last time that there are tvs around the bar which I was glad about because it's the end of the season for MLB so I was happy to see some of the games. I did ask if they could turn it to a specific game and I don't think she ever even looked -- which was fine because they had a channel showing multiple games at the same time (including the one I wanted). Additionally I was by myself and wanted something small to eat but upon scanning the menu I realized the majority of the "small bites" had meat or fish in them and there was nothing munchy like pretzels or fries. I finally settled on the warm olive bowl ($12) and asked the bartender if I could add the naan bread for $1. I wasn't in a major hurry but always enjoy wine with a bit of food, and for what I ordered it seemed to take a very long time -- maybe 25 minutes just for warmed bread and olives. Overall the olives and bread were good but there were too many olives and not enough bread. The bartender wasn't particularly friendly either but I get it she is not there to make friends and she always filled my glass when I was ready, so she did her job. I really like the overall vibe so I'll probably come back.

Have been here a many times. Service has been slowly slacking, not sure if they don't have enough people per shift or whats been going on. Takes 20+ minutes for someone to come check on you between rounds. Love this place but could be better!

They were out of Santa's Meds and Naughty List so we tried Not Your Abuelas Horchata and it was so good!

Such a fun place! The service is absolutely amazing and if there is a wait, it's totally worth it. The drinks are so good! We have also tried the wedge salad and it is loaded with toppings. 100% recommend for date night, girls night, or just a place to hang out and chill.

    Love the lights and decor.

I checked out The Starving Artist for dinner and drinks on a Tuesday evening. The reason I originally picked the spot? How can I say no to a bar and restaurant with a great name like this? Even with it being a Tuesday, all of the parking spots in their front lot were taken. I found a spot on the side of the establishment where they have additional spots. Ambiance (5/5): This is one of the areas The Starving Artist shines. Think of it as a chic dive bar. In the main dining area, you'll see lights covered by red women's dresses. The type of dresses you'd see at a Zorro performance. Famous artwork adorn the walls, including the Mona Lisa, with graffiti across them. Very cool. They also have a dart table, pool tables, and arcade games. That's where the dive bar comes in. O and there's a large mural of Vincent Van Gogh out front. Service (4/5): I saw at the bar where they have barstools with back support (you know I love it) because there was a wait for a table. The service did the job. It wasn't terribly friendly or efficient but above average. This is really the only area of improvement I can think of. Drinks (5/5): While they have beers from OHSO Brewery (solid!), I stuck to cocktails. They have an interesting list of craft cocktails which is always a plus for me. Everything I tried was good, including the pineapple mezcal old fashioned. Food (5/5): To sum things up, elevated bar food. We started off with the garlic knots which were delicious. The knots were a little doughy and stretch with an addicting blend of garlic and parmesan sprinkled on top. Arguably the best garlic knots I've had in my life. From there, we couldn't say no to the dill pickle pizza. While it sounds a little nasty, trust me on this one. The white base, the sauce, the pickles, the cheese... it works so well in a way I didn't think possible. Don't knock it until you try it. Unless you're the type of person that takes your pickle off your Chick-Fil-a sandwich. Then stay away. While we missed it, they also have a solid happy hour with both food and drink specials. All in all, one of the coolest spots I've been to since I moved to Phoenix back in January.

    Interesting special

Ask the Community - The Starving Artist

    What is the age limit?

I don't think so. There is no law in az about kids being in a bar, they just can't sit at the bar top. Plenty of table seating

    Are kids allowed too?

    Yes
