I went to the new wave, nerdcore, 80s/90s dance party last Saturday and it did not disappoint! The DJ was on point and the drinks were cheap and strong. Plus they have pinball! Just 3 but that is enough for me! I am a pinball junkie!! Overall the service is quick and pleasant despite how many people were there. RIPS has all kinds of people, young and old, normal and off the wall and everything in between!! The only negative was that the patio was a smoking den -- My hair and clothes smelled so bad the next day and it was really hard to find a small corner of the patio that wasn't smoked out. I will definitely be back for this dance party -- every 3rd Saturday. read more

Sloppy bartender can't make a mule, I asked to exchange for a beer, she replied " no I'm not paying for your drink, although I never drank it due to it being so horrible, I'm from LV in with family totally sober, so I complained she said get out - we weee in shock all professionals with great jobs. Rip's is damn near a perfect dive bar. Dark, cheap drinks, diverse clientele. My only issue is sometimes the music is a bit too loud, but that's my issue, not theirs. 5 stars. No notes. read more

Lots of outlets for charging phones, but it seemed like it didn't charge much at either outlets we tried, battle of the jukebox songs though lol, someone kept playing xtra long songs. Came to Rips as part of a birthday celebration. Rip's was chosen by the person who's birthday it was because it is one of their favorite bars, and it was karaoke night. Aside from the people there for the birthday, not many additional people were in the bar. The guy running karaoke said that while he doesn't have a book, he has hundreds of thousands of songs. He has yet to have someone request a song he doesn't have. He wiped down the microphone in-between each singer. Drinks were very reasonably priced. Full bar along with beer and cider on tap. Only one bartender was working the night I was there. She was busy. She remained calm, cool, collected, and still managed to be engaging. read more

Mello neighborhood bar under a uniquely styled roof next to the O'Reilly's on 16th St north of Thomas. Enter via the door on 16th St to a small foyer through which is the wrap around bar in the main room. The ATM is on the right just as you enter. There is one pool table tucked in on the right where a friendly game can be found. On the left are some tables, a couple of couches and local art for sale displayed on the walls. The artists are sometimes at large in the evenings. Further in ahead is an elevated stage perfect for small live performances and the regular karaoke crooners. Come a little early and you can get a few songs in, but after 10pm, the cue gets a little long. The rest rooms are down a short hall next to the stage and they are no more funky than those in most bars I've been in. There is little table service, so line up at the corner of the bar or sit on a stool to get the attention of the two bartenders usually on duty. Cash and cards accepted. You may have to give the recipe for any cocktails you prefer as the bartenders are not mixologists. The delight of this establishment is the outside area on the south side of the building. This is also the smoking area. It is open with a low wall separating it from the O'Reilly's parking lot where many patrons park after the parts store closes. There are a couple of picnic tables and some chairs and tables but most people stand. The crowd is young to middle age and friendly. Singles do patronize the place and anything is possible. read more

Nikki was very rude over the phone when I had just some simple questions hang up the phone on me and when I proceeded to call back to ask for a manager. The person Nikki asked for my name also my last name. And pretends to become a manager over the phone I ask were you the person that I was speaking with she states no I am the manager and my business isn't welcome or over the phone and then I'm"harassing" her to never call back again thank you bye". Neighborhood Dive Bar - and this is the EXACT type of bar I was looking for! From the punk rock atoms sphere to the old lady serving at the bar, this place was destined to be a hang out spot by the lushes of the neighborhood. They had Karaoke last night when we hung out, but the made us wear a mask when we sang. While I think these regulations go too far, I will not fault this bar for staying open during the pandemic and keeping the party going. There was nothing special about the beer. Nothing special about the drinks. If they had a kitchen or food, I was not going to try anything because that is not why we came to Rips. My local haunt, and favorite bar in town. This place is like Cheers, everyone knows everyone and have no problem striking up a conversation with anyone. The drinks are cheap and the pours are heavy. There's pool, a handful of arcade games, including pinball, and even a ring toss game on their amply sized smoking patio. And its worth noting that during the winter they have a heater on the patio, and during the summer months they have a swamp cooler cooling the space down. They often have event nights, like Shadowplay every third Saturday of the month, its an 80's dance party that often has a theme. Guarenteed to enjoy some awesome people watching. Wednesday's are Uptown with changing DJs spinning everything from 90's rap to current hipster faves. Friday and Saturday they often have bands playing rockabilly, covers, rock, punk, and even metal on occasion. Sunday is free pool all day, an open jam session in the evening until 9pm when they have karaoke. Both Sunday and Monday have karaoke until close. Every night of the week, you'll likely run into Maria, the tamale lady who sells tamales and burritos from the back of her car (trust me they're incredibly good). On certain nights expect to find delicious home made BBQ being sold right outside the gate, try the cobler, you'll thank me. So whether its a packed dance floor with spinning tunes, live music from local and out of town bands, belting your heart out to some Morriset, or just a cheap drink and a friendly game of pool, Rips has it all. read more

Dive bar that has that 80's charm. That's right I wrote 80's charm. First time there and got hit with some Bowie and Depeche Mode! Even though I love my 80's hip hop it was cool to hear something different from that same genre. They pour the drinks a little stiff which is great for me but just a heads up. Not a very big dance floor but enough space to get your groove on. Casual attire nothing too crazy. It was cool cause we bumped into some folks wearing some pretty amazing outfits. Met up with some friends on a Friday night for a UYE of Cards against Humanity down at Rips, and I have to say is a pretty cool dive bar. Nothing fancy but cool none the less They have a live band playing, but it wasn't too loud, you could sit by the pool table and really not be bothered by the band, no need to yell to talk with your friends. As the group grew we had to move it to the patio area, which is pretty sweet too, lots of people talking and enjoying the night. Also when you check in on Yelp, you will get a $1 off your beer or cocktail, that's pretty sweet! Bartenders are nice, the band was good. Friday night was a good night! I don't have a mohawk, or a shirt that says "The Smiths" or "The Clash", so I can only fit in Rips' social scene with my awkward attempts at charming wit. When I heard the band jamming inside, and saw the dance floor packed, I was delighted to cough up the $5 cover. I saw the great selection at the bar, and guzzled some woodchuck winter cider while my pal grabbed some well-made cocktails. The wait wasn't long, and the staff was personable. The bottled beer selection also rocks. I got the Red Hook IPA, and before I knew it I had a mighty buzz, with many strangers striking up conversations. The atmosphere here is friendly, and this is coming from a Yelper who usually sits in a corner surrounded by empty PBR cans. I just can't get the hang of that stupid game they have on the patio! If you try it and win, tell me your secret! Oh, and one more thing: I kept hearing about "Obscura", which sounds like something so awesome that it's too cool for me to understand without checking it out. I'll be back. read more

This is the perfect dive bar. This place was recommended as a "good gay bar" while my wife and I were passing through Phoenix. Not your typical gay bar; in fact it was pretty much a regular bar and the crowd was super chill with good vibes all around. It was a great time. They had karaoke on a Monday night and everyone was killing it. Karaoke went on strong until 2 pm.
