I found the Valley Bar from an Instagram ad and was intrigued by a $12.90 (including tax and processing fees) show on a Sunday night, purchased thru the TicketWeb site. I parked curbside nearby using the ParkMobile app, which was under $2 for the whole show. Initially, I had great difficulty finding the bar, but upon searching pictures from Google Maps and asking a bouncer at a nearby bar, I discovered it is tucked away in an alley. A bouncer will check your ID, scan your body with a detector, and check your bag before entering. Immediately, you head downstairs for the general bar area or scan your ticket to enter the performance area. I got there about 50 minutes late, and most/all of the seats were taken up, so I grabbed myself a drink at the bar and stood the whole 2 hour performance. I didn't appreciate how limited the menu was, especially without price transparency. I blindly ordered an amaretto sour for $12 per the bartender's recommendation. It was alright. Overall, I'm impressed with the vibe and frequency of performances here! I will probably not order another drink, but I will continue to support the *literally* underground scene hosted here by Valley Bar!!! read more

Checked out Valley Bar for the first time a few weeks ago for a Battle of the Bands heald by We Make Noise! It's tucked away down an alley in downtown Phoenix. Security check out front, but easy process. Once permitted entry, you head down some stairs where you can enter I believe The Rose Room, more of a sit down experience or the venue space. You can get tickets online, but also at the door if available. We did not get to check out The Rose Room this time, but their cocktail menu, Arizona and historical figures inspired, looked great, so hope to return. We were in the venue space though that had a bar on one side, with pretty affordable options. Nothing crazy in the cocktail range, but reasonable considering. Volume is definitely bumping. The space was divided in two this evening, as one half was for 21 and under, while the larger half with the bar was for 21 and up. It was a super fun show and I would definitely return for another one in the future. Only one bathroom option for the venue itself (that I saw as a part of the space was blocked off inside), which is outside by the second check in or common area between the two spaces. I am sure the Rose Room has more, but can't speak on it, so I am sure lines could get long if that is the only option, but luckily we did not have any issues. Definitely will be back! read more

Yep. My boyfriend and I had the absolute BEST time here last night. We went to see our friends Sarah and the Safe Word last night (they're amazing - check them out) and it was the first time for both of us visiting this place. It was a tad hard to find (thank you, Google maps) but once we did, it was really groovy. We were met with security outside, and they were really nice. My bag was searched and we were both wanded down, and once we were good to go, we headed inside. The main room (The Rose Room) is very cool. Dim lighting, concrete floors, votives on tables. Above the bar there's shadow art, and the vibe is industrial and speakeasy-esque. I don't drink, so I can't comment on the drinks here, but the vibe is immaculate. This is one of our favorite venues for live music and games. It is a little hard to find down a dark alley, but once you go downstairs you emerge in an eclectic space with random art on the wall and a cool mobile around the bar. Many of the cocktails are named after politicians from Arizona. The one downside is prices have risen dramatically in the past few years and it isn't as good of a deal as it used to be. They have also changed their drink menu and gotten rid of one of our favorite drinks. read more

Was it my favorite venue around? No, but it exceeded several venues for me. Had I gotten there when the lights were already turned low, I may have felt differently. With the lights on, it did, it felt like a jam spot of many young artists I knew in my youth. And it is a basement, however that doesn't mean it isn't accessible for those who may need an alternative way in. I presume you just let the venue know and they'll make it happen for you, if needed. It appread as though they are likely pretty accomodating. I have this thing about basements that I have been fortunate to avoid during most of my time out here in AZ... and with the lights on, that "thing" was activated. It subsided when the AC kicked on and the lights were turned low and all in all, I will pay more attention to who plays here. The sound? On point. I was upclose but it sounded balanced and great for me. I tend to be sensitive to overly "loud"... the chatting of the room disrupted my nervous system while we waited for who I went to see to start. Once the music started, I felt relief.. The bar area is a chique area with plenty of room and places to sit. I was surprised at how big it was, actually. I don't drink and was sad that I didn't notice food options, though I didn't ask. When I opened the little booklet I was thrilled to see mocktails. Like, interesting ones that piqued my interest. However, by the time she came around, they'd opened the doors so I skipped it. While in the performance area (idk what to call it), they had another bar inside, although I believe I heard him mention he didn't have the same mocktails as they had at the bar, but again, I didn't ask and just skipped it... One of the other attendees mentioned the non-alcoholic Dos Equis she was drinking being decent. I asked if it hit the beer taste and she responded letting me know she squeezed lime all up in it. Being a beer drinker, if I do drink, it's nice to have the option for such a thing... but being a beer drinker, when I do drink, I am going to make a judgement call, knowing myself, and assume it wouldn't hit the "mark"... but again, stellar that it's an option. They do have booze at the bar as well for all you lushes j/k. The entrance is in the alley, behind the front where the address is listed. They can't be held responsible for the odor of that alley, but if you're going before they're open for a show, you're likely gonna think you're in the wrong spot and you might catch a scent of others who've traveled that alley. The neon sign isn't illuminated when it's closed, which makes perfect sense. Oh, I just added a star back, which I deducted based on my basement trauma... I had questions leading up to the show and they responded much quicker than I would have expected, if I even expected a response at all? We suspending here after a show to wait out the surge pricing on Uber/Lyft and I am glad my friend showed me this place. Felt like I was at the best house party but instead the drinks are well crafted. The DJ was in his own world which was its own show. Tried to go here with my brother the other night, and the bouncer was a total jerk. We are both from Washington so obviously our ids are as well, the bouncer took one look at my id and refused to let me in. The "flaws" in my id he pointed out were non existent and it felt like he just wanted a reason to not let us in. Very uncomfortable situation, I will not be back. May I suggest you guys invest in a ID scanner, so that other 24 year olds aren't denied entry for absolutely no reason. read more

Valley Bar is a downtown must-visit that perfectly blends a great cocktail lounge and game room, with an intimate music venue. Don't be surprised to open the door to a stairway - it's in the basement. Their cocktails are superb--the Rose Mofford, made with local Vodka, Violette, Rose, and Lemon, is an absolute favorite and a must-try. I've attended two concerts in the intimate venue space and had a fantastic experience both times. Underground and interesting bar for live concerts. They had this wonderful projection on top of the main bar. The place is cold so make sure to bring a sweater. Beers (canned $8 plus tax) were a little overpriced but you expect that from a big city...the service was good. If you ask to refill the water they will cut you off. It's all about making sure customer are hydrated, unless your busy or to cool. Other than that cool area very local and Amazing DJ sets lined up always excited to dance. Aj Cruz sets of DJs always provide a good time. read more

This is a very cool, and probably one of my favorites downtown. I usually get an amaretto sour, which has yet to disappoint. Be warned, it definitely is a little odd trying to find this place, so don't be alarmed or anything when you descend down into the basement. I like the music and generally the atmosphere is pretty quiet, except when it gets super busy on weekends. Overall, this is a fun bar and I hope to visit again soon. read more

Awesome bar! If you're in town you should check this out. They offer a variety of local drinks and have their own twist on some cocktail favorites. The space is impressive, it's underground and has a a hidden library to relax and enjoy if you can find it, wink, wink. They also have a great amount of games to play while you wait for your food or show to begin. If you're into pool this is the spot for you! They have 2 tables and change on hand if you need to break a dollar. Definitely give this spot a look if you trying to find something new. read more

I came here a few times before COVID and loved it - for both shows and drinks in the Rose Room. Out of all the spots in downtown Phoenix that failed, I was happy to see this one made it - and seems to be fully rebounded based on the crowd when I visited last Saturday. I'm not one of the late night dance crowd types - I'm first shift, basically. I was here most recently for an event (Neil Hamburger). We popped into the Rose Room for a drink prior to the show. I was well pleased with the additions to the menu since I was here last - including my favorite drink in the world - a Calpirinha (de Reuben). I rarely ever see them on bar menus in Phoenix. Theirs was very tasty, but a bit more sweet than it needed to be. Bar service was excellent - friendly, prompt and observant. I played a round of skee ball, but the game didn't keep score so it was more like a round of toss. The event was honestly a bit uncomfortable. The room was FREEZING, and I had expected it to be warm, so I really froze. That, combined with the plastic, tightly packed folding chairs, made the experience less than pleasant. People got up and down a lot too (maybe because of the two reasons above) and given how tight the seats were, it became a real distraction. I even got up three times, which is rare for me. I just needed to warm up with the dryer in the bathroom! I'm guessing this was just because so many people wanted to see America's Funnyman Mr. Hamburger that they just kept adding seats until they hit the limit. And it is better to be freezing than sweating in Phoenix! But the chairs... those were from hell. I will of course be back again, if only for the Calpirinha de Reuben! read more

I returned to ask questions and also had two people who are close with the company reach out and I was treated like garbage. I had 2 drinks purchased by another individual while there. We opted to embark on the 4 hour round trip to Phx to attend a Sunday performance of the overnight R&B sensation, Danielle Ponder, at the Valley Bar. The concert also had a solo warmup performer, Tru Vonne, who was funny, engaging with the audience, and talented. With a start time of 7:30pm and doors opening at 7p for this general admission show, we decided to arrive at 6pm, find street parking (which we did!) and then relax at one of the half-dozen classy restaurants within a block's walk. There's at least one public garage within 2 blocks too. We headed down the alley where the bar's entrance was (note: it's down the alley off of Central and then around a bend, so you won't see the door/signage from Central at all. The alley had an instant and overpowering smell of stale urine causing my companion to pull her shirt over her nose during that 2-min walk. There was security at the entrance and throughout the venue - all were pleasant. We reached the bottom of the very stairs (no bannister so she had to hold my shoulder while stepping down in heels) and were surprised to see the stage doors still closed (7:15p) and a line of about 30 people winding inwards towards the other half of the bar/billiards area. This bar/billiards area is open much earlier and an ideal place to hang if you're really early, with both bar/stools and booths to relax in. Doors opened minutes later and the first dozen or so grabbed the only two high-tops in the venue, located at the very back. Around each small high-top were 5-6 metal stools. The rest of the venue is, like many intimate clubs, simply open / standing room only. There's a 6-inch wide shelf about elbow height that runs along the entire back wall. This is where the rest of the early birds migrated and set their drinks. We wanted to be able to approach the stage once Ms. Ponder came on, so we took up a small footprint along the shelf/wall close to the stage. There's a small interior bar that handles both cash and credit cards. The drinks menu is modest (roughly 20 options, including cocktails and beers) but, oddly, there were no prices (see pic). When I inquired, the bartender said the prices vary... as in, depending on the show! She didn't even know the cost of each item until punching it in the register. Tonight a can of craft beer was $8 and a plastic cup of craft draught was $7.50. A bit steep, generally, but I suppose ok for a club trying to supplement the $25 concert ticket haul. Bathrooms are easily accessed in the billiards/bar area and are (reasonably) clean for a club. Note: there are no paper towels anywhere and napkins are hard to come by, so maybe bring some wipes or something. A nice touch is self-serve water coolers with small cups, both midway and at the back of the concert area. Acoustics are very good - loud but crisp. Only one bad reverb occurred and, unfortunately, during Ponder's achingly soulful cover of "Creep" by Radiohead. The venue was full but not at all uncomfortably, probably at 3/4 capacity (est 200 hundred attendees) and incredibly diverse.. and so polite/friendly too (no doubt a testament to the artist). Our only wish was for more high tops (in the back of course) and paper towel dispensers in the washrooms. Exiting the alley around 10pm and walking to our car, about two blocks away, was uneventful. We arrived home around midnight and got just enough sleep to start our Monday work week. Props to Valley Bar for landing Danielle Ponder. Next time around, she'll probably only be in a much larger venue. read more

What A Vibe! I have zero complaints for the bar after only going one time. I came in October with my girlfriend and she picked out this bar for us to come to on the first night and we have a blast. One side is a regular bar, and another side that opens up at a certain time each night is more of a club type vibe. It was two dope ass female DJ's when we went , and killed it. The ambiance was giving, and the music was exactly the vibe we were looking for. Everyone in the bar was minding their own business and having a good time. I don't know if there was food at this place, but we wanted drinks since we didn't have time to pre-game. Trying to order felt like an eternity. My friend and I were standing right at the bar, literally hip to the counter, clearly visible. The bartender saw us but skipped over us multiple times to serve other people who came in after us. We waited about ten minutes, and at first, we tried to be patient, thinking maybe it was just busy. But after a while, it started to feel intentional and that completely killed the vibe. There was another person of color next to us, and it really started to feel like the bartender was giving colorist and discriminatory vibes. Maybe even homophobic. It was such a weird and uncomfortable experience. We ended up leaving and finding local spots that were actually welcoming and worth giving our money to. read more

I always like going to Valley Bar. It's a little more of a grungy / dive bar type of a place, located in an alley so it might be hard to locate if you've never been. Solid place to pop in for drinks if you're in the area - it's pretty low-key in my opinion, but can definitely get crowded at night on the weekends. Fun wall art, vintage furniture, dim lighting. Nice spot for an intimate date night or chill outing with friends. Decent cocktail and beer selection. I haven't had food here but they do have a small menu of food items you can order from. There's also pool, shuffleboard and lounge type seating in the back area. They also hold concerts here which are fun - typically smaller names and/or local artists is what I've seen. It's not the most fancy or sophisticated of venues but I really enjoy how intimate of a setting the concert space is which makes for a good show. read more
