Ok I see why this has been around 50+ years and still makes best of lists. That was a GREAT burger!! Harvey's is divey but there's parking, it seemed clean, and service was great! I got the cheese wineburger and its perfect. Lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo come on the side. The burger was thicker and it actually came medium when I ordered medium. Very flavorful and juicy. You also get fries or pay a little more for onion rings. I got the fries and while they're pretty standard, they're good. And all that was like $13! It is a bar, so you can get beer or a drink - and they do have Church Music on tap, yay! And you can't bring kids - 21+ only. My only annoyance was the jukebox kept playing heavy metal. I'm pretty good at tuning things out and not super picky about music but it was hard to have a conversation. I ended up downloading the app to play anything else, and it would say queue empty but as soon as my songs were done it would go back to metal. Maybe a scheme by the jukebox app to get people to pay. I came for lunch with my aunt and was told multiple times by different employees that we were ordering too much food. Even after our meals were brought to the table, another employee commented that it was too much for just the two of us. I've never felt so judged at a restaurant. You would think a business would be happy about higher sales. I never asked for any advice on how much to order. I'm not sure why it was implied that I couldn't (or shouldn't) order a large amount of food. If there's a limit on how much customers can order, that should be clearly stated upfront. I didn't know what to expect coming in, but I've heard in the past that the food here is good. Walking in, it looks like a hole in the wall, dive bar kinda vibe but it feels warm & welcoming. I tried the spicy burger and OMG it was f***in fantastic!!! That was one juicy & thick patty! I stopped by on a weekday around 1pm. Crowded at the bar and tables. Lots of TVs playing sports but not too noisy. I grabbed a seat and server took my drink and food order quickly. I ordered the super deluxe burger medium rare and onion rings. It took about 30 minutes but it was worth the wait. Perfectly cooked cheesy burger with standard condiments. Ranch sauce for the hot and perfect real onion rings. Burger must have weighed a pound. I barely finished. Server was nice to check in periodically. I can see why this burger is so highly rated. Harvey's Wineburger has been a place I've wanted to visit for a while now and I finally got a chance to go with a buddy of mine. We went at noon on a Friday afternoon and the place was packed. We were greeted pretty quickly & got our drinks ordered, but after that service got slow. After a good ten minute wait our server finally made it back. We both ordered burgers, I order a cheeseburger with jack cheese/bacon and jalapeños, Jim ordered a specialty burger the Buffalo Bleu Burger, I got onion rings & he got fries, but we didn't see our food for a good 25-30 minutes, so if you're in a hurry at lunch this might not be a good place for you. The wait was worth it, the burgers were excellent. Juices flowed from the perfectly cooked handmade patty as we bit into them, the bacon was cooked flawlessly, it was nice and thick and the cheese was melted over the jalapeños giving it a nice blanket of ooey gooey cheese. The onion rings were sinfully delicious, I didn't try the fries so I can't judge them. If you want to carry on a conversation this place might not be a good idea, it's very loud and it's dark with all the walls painted black. Lots of TV's, great for a sports lover. Overall I give it 8.5 (lost a point for it being slow service), but if you love a great burger, head over and enjoy, just don't be in a hurry. read more

This is a 5 star experience IF you go in with the right expectations and understanding of the establishment. This is a DIVE BAR with local regulars and a vibe that is protected by them. The regulars are Phoenicians who have been coming here for years, and in my opinion, it's one of the few remaining places that hasn't been overrun/changed by the massive population influx in Phoenix. Therefore, the regular patrons have a deep respect and love for this establishment and its people. In other words, don't F with the vibe. Enjoy yourself, but seriously be mindful of the environment. I say this because the staff will swiftly let you know with a verbal reprimand or even just by kicking you out. For example, they don't do takeout. Do not ask. And when they tell you no, do not ask again. That being said, do not expect white glove, highly attentive service. The service is good enough, and that's all that matters. It's a busy establishment and yes you will wait a bit for your food. AGAIN, when you understand the expectations, this can be a fun and highly enjoyable experience, but you have to understand where you are and what it is. Regarding the food, incredible. I stick with the wine burger and the wings with the secret sauce. Absolutely amazing food and the prices are stupid cheap. I'm completely serious when I say this is easily one of the best burgers in Phoenix. The burger is done right, and I really appreciate it. I love this place. Been coming back for years. If you're familiar with Coach House or JT's, it's got that same vibe -- maybe even a little more divey. And the bathroom might actually challenge Coach for the crown... if you know, you know. It's dark, a little gritty in the best way, and the burgers are amazingly good. The Thousand Island burger is my go-to, but even the regular cheeseburger hits. Shoutout to Shane. Fries are f'n great too. The servers are awesome and super nice, but fair warning: the main bar is usually full. If you're with someone, you might have to wait a minute for seats. Had book marked this spot since they have a bold burger claim of being the best in AZ! And their wings are suppose to be pretty decent too! FYI-It's extremely small inside. It was busy on the Sunday evening when we came in about 5:30 PM. Don't really expect to be welcomed in here as the staff is super busy, so much so that they don't seem to acknowledge people coming through the door.Seat yourself! We waited just a few minutes & were able to find an open area at the bar. Menus provided at the counter, so we browsed the beer selections & went with a Dos Equis & a Wow Beer. We wanted to start with their wings & requested them mixed with their hot & garlic parm which is a popular choice here. They came out piping hot (temperature wise) and they were huge in size! They're good, but could have been just a little more crispy IMO. There's so many great burgers offered on the menu and it was really hard to decide. In speaking with the bartender we went with his two favorites which were the Island and the Garlic Patty Melt. BOTH were excellent. The patty, while being cooked has a splash of red wine added. Hence the name- Winebuger. These burgers are worth the hype and the price. We weren't able to eat them all. There are thick!! The fries were on another level. I'd go as far as to say that they were probably the best I've had in Arizona thus far. It currently beats my last claim elsewhere in another review. I don't know what these fries are cooked in, probably don't want to know either, but they're delicious & memorable! NOTE- It is a very small kitchen with assuming one cook?! You have to be patient with the process. The tickets get backed up, so the staff allows for timeframes so the kitchen can get caught up before placing additional orders. But, do not worry they will keep the drinks flowing! Entertainment consists of: Pool, Jukebox, Darts and believe they have a DJ on certain days and times also. We really enjoyed this drive bar. It's been around since the early 50's and it's got the old bones, decor and chill vibe to prove it. *Suggest if you're able- to get a seat at the bar. You'll have better, more attentive service. Seating choices are at the bar, or a high top table. Came at lunchtime and the place was pretty full. Hubs had the Garlic Patty Melt and added green chiles. I had the mushroom burger (beef with grilled onions & mushrooms). Burgers come with fries, upgraded one order to onion rings. Beef patties are 7 oz and hand-pressed on a flat griddle.
