    Crispy fried rice
    Ellie N.

I like everything but it's difficult to give them a 5-star. Crispy fried rice 3.5/5: I look forward to the crispy fried rice a lot because it's a great dish for drinking (we sat down in a brewery next to the food truck). The texture is great. It's fresh and crispy. It's just way too salty. Pork buns 4/5: the buns could be more fluffy. Beef skewers 4/5: it's good but not outstanding. The beef is well seasoned and soft.

While at Vacancy Brewing, we needed a small bite so we tried SXSE. We ordered an hour before closing so I'm sure they were a little annoyed with us and it showed. Once the dude brought us the food, he just dropped it off and left. I felt a little bad for ordering late, but also, they were still open. Anyways, the sausage was great! Fantastic flavor and whatever the sauce was complimented it well! Personally, I'm not a huge fan of mango so I can't add too much two cents on the rice, but I liked what I did try and my friend seemed to like it! I will give this place another shot when I'm in the area again.

Unfortunately the food we got completely missed the mark and I'm so disappointed I would not return. The total came out to about $40 and we end up not eating most of it and got a real dinner elsewhere. There was a couple people sitting at the patio area when we got there but I believe they were having beers from the nearby brewery. We were really the only customers. According to the online website from the QR code, it claimed our food would take 30 minutes. We ended up waiting that time in our car because it was very cold out, however they did not text us when the food was ready. Because of that the food was already cold. However, I don't think the food would have been good even if it was warm. Ribeye skewers - pretty good seasoning, but the meat was very chewy and rough. The rice was under cooked and had a crunch to it that I did not enjoy. Chicken skewers - the texture of it inside was like boiled chicken, not tender, really not good at all. I picked baby spice for both skewers but it was still pretty spicy. Crispy rice - this is more a side than an entree to me. There is very little meat in it so it's more like a rice side dish. The fragrant of it is pretty good but definitely not worth the price.

Had a chance to try Seske Fud Ko and was very impressed. Got the sausage and the award-winning filet. Beware the spice levels are no joke, so make sure to adjust your preference as necessary. Between the two I really enjoyed the sausage, and it's what I'll be coming back here for. (I'm also excited to try their pork rice). The portions were a little small for a full meal, but the dishes work great as a snack to go along with some cold beers from the next door brewery. The filet was good, but not something I would seek out again.

Ribeye Steak Skewer & Crispy Fried Rice

Delicious ribeye steak skewers and crispy fried rice from a food truck outside of Vacancy Brewing. We came on a busy Thursday night and our orders still came out pretty quickly. The fried rice was crispier than any I've ever tried before, and the ribeye was not too fatty and had excellent flavor. The only downside- I wish it came with more than the tiny container of lime sauce. We will be back to try more of their unique menu.

If you're looking for food with tons of spice and flavor, SXSE is your spot! We went to 4th Tap to try a few beers and the smell of SXSE pulled me in. Food came out in about 10 minutes hot and fresh! The chicken skewers were SPICY, but amazingly tender. The pork crispy rice was very crispy and had just the right about of spice. Can't wait to come back and try more options!

My favorite crawfish found here - and for a very fair price! My mouth was having a seizure trying to understand the explosive flavor. Was it fish sauce, garlic, and lemongrass? Warning: this Laotian crawfish is highly addictive! Their other menu items are definitely worth trying - crispy fried rice (nam khao tod) is infused with refreshing mint leaves; the chicken and beef skewers are best with the spicy tangy fish sauce and jasmine rice. $8 for papaya salad with fried chicken skin is a good deal! Off menu item and only served on Sundays is their yummy Lao chicken noodle soup (Khao piak sen). If you catch them on Sunday, it's a must try!

Delicious Laotian food! Bob, the owner and chef, is kind and passionate about his food. Make plans to visit this food truck, currently parked in the parking lot of 4th Tap Brewery. Follow him on Instagram @sxsefoodco to stay updated on his specials. I went on a Sunday afternoon to try his special Lao chicken noodle soup (Khao Piek Sen) and it was hearty, flavorful, and amazing. This is the ONLY chef serving this dish in Austin, as far as I know! The wings are also really crispy and good. Bob says he marinates them in fish sauce. Would get the wings again for sure! Thanks for the delicious food!

    Pulled pork steak buns
    Karen Q.

Visited this food truck during an AAPI event at Austin Beerworks. They had limited items on their menu, so we tried the pulled pork steamed buns. The pulled pork was tender and flavorful and the buns were fluffy. I did think it could be more filling to balance the ratio.

    Mango sticky rice

Best mango sticky rice I've had in Austin! Sticky rice was perfect chew and texture with delicious condensed milk and super sweet mango slices. Might have ate a few bites before even thinking to take a pic

I mean, LOOK at this crispetyness!!! Amaaaazing. And so many bits of beef nam too!
    Veronica Y.

Whoa. Whoaaaa. Laotian crossed with southern American flavors, this food truck has shot up directly to being a top favorite! Waited for ages for their Tour de Austin to come around to my neck of the woods on a day that I could make it out in time, and my verdict is: Drive to wherever it currently is because no matter how far, IT'S WORTH IT. The starring dish that I tried was the Ribeye Skewer with Crispy Fried Rice (Nam Khao Tod) with jeow som sauce, and the mango sticky rice. (Also tried to order the pork belly fried rice but they were out, unfortunately). The skewers: I literally "mmm"d out loud (sitting alone in the park) when I bit in to this. Did not expect it to be so tender, so perfect, so juicy! The crispy fried rice is a must must must!!!! Comes with the crispiest crispety bits and together with the beef nam, there's SO MUCH FLAVOR and texture. Skip the jasmine rice everytime in favor of this. ...And that jeow som sauce...I've never tried it before but my goodness, it's like crack! It's got so much funk (in all the best ways). I want to have this with everything. Looked up a recipe online and it's a combo of chili, garlic, lime, fish sauce, and sugar. The mango sticky rice -- made with forbidden rice which adds to the texture and prevents it from getting too dense and congealed. And the coconut cream was perrrrrfect.

    Mary S.

We are not too familiar with Laotian street food, but that did not matter with our sampling of SXSE. We really enjoyed the pulled pork buns, a chicken skewer, and beef skewers on rice. We requested some spicy and some mild, and these were distinguished for us. Don't make me choose which one was the best!

Loro is an Asian smokehouse and bar featuring grilled and smoked meats with Southeast Asian and Japanese-inspired sauces, sides, and a bar that boasts craft beer, boozy slushees, and batch cocktails. Parking at this location is a bit of a challenge. They have overflow parking in the back but the spots are really small. We sat at the bar area and worked our way through cocktails, apps, and dessert. We opened a tab and the bar staff takes your order which is convenient, versus how you normally have to order by waiting in line at the bar. The bar staff was extremely busy because they have to make all the cocktails and take the line orders at the bar. They are a master of multitasking. It was $3 martini night on Tuesday, so was excited to sample the four different drink options. lychee martini, Mexican martini, and Lucky Cat cosmo martini. Lychee martini is made with new amsterdam vodka, sake, elderflower, Mexican martini with espolon blanco, olive, yuzu, lime and cosmo with vodka, blood orange, naranja, lime. The lychee was hands down my favorite of the three. We started with the Dip Sampler that included a trifecta of smoked shishito queso, smoked salmon dip and Thai green salsa with the Siete blue corn tortilla chips. We went through the chips quickly and got a second round of wonton chips which I preferred to the Siete chips. Tried the Mango Chamoy frozen Slushee with Siete Chamoy Botana Sauce & Siete Chile Lime Seasoning Rim, passionfruit, Aperol, Sake and Sparkling Wine which was refreshing. All their boozy slushies are $5 during happy hour. Ordered the oak grilled edamame from the happy hour menu and it was a flavor explosion with a dusting of serracha powder, lemon zest and white sesame. For dinner, I ordered my go-to rice bowl with coconut-scented rice, seasonal pickles, thai herbs and steak as the protein. They normally served this with Bavette, but the steak was a bit tough and chewy this time. Finished everything off with cheesecake with five spice crumble, yuzu marmalade for dessert. The vibe at the bar was relaxed and lively without feeling overwhelming, and the collab menu felt creative without trying too hard. The ingredients are very thoughtful for a fully developed flavor profile. Just what I would expect from the culinary minds of Tyson Cole and Aaron Franklin. Definitely one of the regulars in my list when craving good cocktails with a casual but elevated food menu.

Chicken karaage was what you would expect, similar to what you get at Japanese places. Portions are big. The sesame rice noodles were highly reviewed but kinda underwhelming. Sauce was surprisingly spicy and the sesame flavor wasn't super obvious. We also tried the rendang beans and rice, which was a creative spin. I enjoyed the curried beans with the fragrant coconut rice. Nice spot to rest, relax, enjoy a meal and drinks. Enjoyed our experience.

At first, the menu was a bit limited and didn't have Lao staples like jeow som! But their menu has improved a LOT with great bar food versions of Lao dishes. You can't go wrong here with whatever you order (and thank god they kept that Lao hotdog lol), but there are some things you MUST get. It is VERY hard to get nam khao in Austin, but although there is no competition in the area, they still do it right here. It is SO good, perfect crunch, and finally has enough lime! It fixed that craving for me RIGHT up. Good crunchy peanuts and everything. They had a khao piak special as well. Normally I wouldn't really order khao piak because it's such a homey, easy-to-make meal in theory. But for some reason, I can't make it the same way as how they did it here. It was my favorite thing I tried last night. The fried chicken skin was an amazing addition that you'll end up fighting your friends for. Their tam mak hoong is also so legit. 17 chilis to make it, and you know they thum that papaya! The tomatoes were great for a sweeter bite. Although I'm pretty bad with spice, it wasn't the hottest I've ever had, which might be a bit more palatable for others. However, you can customize the level which is really nice for a place that makes smaller portioned food as a bar spot. The place feels like family and I enjoyed seeing such a diverse customer base come in. If you also wanna hear from good Thai music too... perk up LOL!

Chef Ling is a brilliant and personable chef who treats her chefs and staff like family. Several different chefs prepared each course, and the presentation was well beyond what we expected, both visually stunning and thoughtfully composed. From the moment we walked into Ling Kitchen, the energy felt warm and intentional. The space is intimate without feeling cramped, and you immediately sense that you are about to be part of something special rather than just another dinner reservation. Chef Ling personally welcomed guests, shared the story behind the menu, and checked in throughout the evening in a way that felt genuine and never forced. Each course built on the last, with a clear progression of flavors and textures. The fish was impeccably fresh, the knife work precise, and the seasoning balanced to highlight the natural ingredients rather than overpower them. You could see the coordination among the team as different chefs stepped forward to prepare and present their dishes. It truly felt collaborative, like a small culinary orchestra. What stood out most was the creativity. Traditional techniques were honored, but there were subtle twists and unexpected combinations that kept us curious and engaged. Every plate was composed like art. The pacing was perfect, allowing time to savor each bite and appreciate the craftsmanship. Beyond the food, the hospitality elevated the entire experience. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and clearly proud to be part of the team. That family atmosphere Chef Ling fosters is palpable and makes the evening feel personal. If you are in Austin and looking for a memorable omakase that rivals experiences in much larger food cities, Ling Kitchen is a must. This is not just dinner, it is a curated, immersive experience. Fried Pork Riblet Combo-Was excited to try this as another yelper suggested it, but again, this riblet was very dry and rubbery, but I did like the rice. Kua Kee Laow Mr. drunky-Such a fun name reminding me of Thai drunken noodles. This dish was a good filler. Sakoo Yat Sai Moo-This was my favorite thing here! These were very easy to eat, reminding me of Tang Yuan, and instead of black sesame paste you have pork dressed in a sweet/savory/fishy dressing. Overall, I'd rate it as a 2.5 stars as I wasn't especially impressed with my first visit, but hoping I came on an off day as I really do love seeing more Asian representation. I think they are still fairly new so hopefully this is a learning curve and I unfortunately was part of the growth experience. If anything, I would come back for the Sakoo Yat Sai Moo (tapioca pork balls) but honestly it looks like they rotate a lot of their menu item and it might not be available then.

This place is a hidden gem. It's located in the 5610 food co, which is basically a ghost kitchen…read morefor a number of restaurant concepts. You can order at the sparse counter from any of the restaurants but 95% of the business seems to be delivery services or takeout. The food was really flavorful and the potions were generous (average entree $15-20). They even threw in complementary dumplings! My only feedback is that the tablet at the counter forced me to choose spice level 1-10, and even 1 had a nontrivial spiciness to it--would love an easy way to say "not spicy at all" Will definitely come back soon and hope they succeed!!
