Wat Zab is a really solid Thai spot in Austin. I got the pad thai and it was honestly one of the better ones I have had in Austin when it comes to flavor. The noodles were very soft, which some people might not love, but I personally did not mind. The sauce had great balance and tasted rich without being too sweet. I ordered medium spice and it was perfect for me, enough heat to notice but still very comfortable to eat. The portion size was a little on the smaller side, but it honestly is not too expensive considering Austin prices, so it still feels like a fair deal overall. The people working there were also very nice and even gave me a free water bottle, which was a really thoughtful touch. The surrounding area had a very peaceful vibe too. They were the only food truck open at the time, which made it feel super relaxed, and there was plenty of seating and parking available. read more

I stop by this place while waiting for my order at T locs and I don't regret ordering from here to try out. Maybe the best pad see ew flavor wise I have ever had. The medium spice was perfect the noodles were cooked perfectly with a bouncy chew to it. The savory sweet and spiciness meshes well with each other. The flavor was on point only thing I would say is that the chicken piece I got were so small and so little of an amount that I thought they forgot about it. Ambiance is a food truck park so either you pick up your order or just eat in your car or outside. read more

We came to this food truck park for pizza rolls but since we had some time to kill for them to bake, I decided to see what else was open and thankfully Wat Zab was. I ordered at the window, and the gentleman helping was very kind, helping me choose dishes, and even reminding me of discounts we might qualify for. It was a pretty chilly day but luckily you can wait in your car as a text is sent when the food is ready. When I picked up the food, it was nice and hot and made non spicy as requested. The crab fried rice was surprisingly a bit sweet but the flavor profile was still tasty and I also liked the orange sauce that was included. I liked how the Pad Kee Mao had really tender noodles which soaked up all the sauce and so yummy! Also, just a heads up but beef is not being offered at this time, but the pork was still tender! Overall, I really enjoyed the food we ordered and will be back especially since the price was reasonable for how much food you get! read more

Best idea ever to try this place out. Usually food trucks don't taste as good as restaurants in my opinion but this place proved me wrong. It was actually one of the best Thai food I've had in Austin! I love how wide their noodles were and the flavoring was just perfect. Not too salty and not soggy at all like some of the comments said. Pineapple fried rice was also great. Good service, very quick to get our food. This food truck is located in a parking lot with other food trucks (next to sushi Dawa). There are a few seats. Good to go for a quick bite or if you wish to take your fur baby with you. read more

Ordered to-go for a team lunch and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Together we had the pad ew, the basil fried rice with added chicken, and the tofu pad Thai. Some of use did ask for extra silverware, sauce, etc and the person assured us more than once that our orders were indeed correct and everything we asked for was in the bag. I ordered the basil fried rice at the spicy spice level. It was not spicy at all. I honestly think I could've gone two spice levels up. The food was hot and fresh to order and had good flavors. The added lime was a great touch as well. My only complaint would be the added chicken was a bit on the drier side and was unfortunately a tad bland. If it just had a wee bit more seasoning, the meal would've been perfect. All in all, I'd recommend and am excited to try more things on the menu. read more

Tried this place for the first time tonight. I got the basil fried rice with added pork and it exceeded my expectations. They really managed to cook out the fragrance and flavors of the onions and basil, better than some Thai restaurants I've been to. The pork was surprisingly tender. I got medium spicy but it wasn't too bad at all; judging by other reviews, they probably run on the milder side. They seem quite popular because it took ~40 minutes to get my order that was placed on a Thurs night at 6:30pm. The guy taking the orders mentioned they had 18 online orders before me. Took one star off because he was a bit rude and seemed more interested in giving his spiel on how the food is all handmade rather than providing some sort of estimate on expected wait time. Good option on a slower day when the weather is nice. read more

I was visiting Neighbor Coffee and Friends, which shares a small seating area with WAT ZAB Thai Food, and had to stop by to pick up some lunch as well. The gentleman was exceptionally friendly and although the gluten free options were not noted on the menu, he was able to list off for me that handful of options which were not gluten free. Thankfully there were only a few things on the menu that I couldn't eat, and I was delighted to order my absolute favorite - pad thai! I split my protein option to half chicken/half tofu and have to say that this was some of the best pad thai I have ever eaten. The sauce is what absolutely makes it and the entire meal was delightful and full of flavor. I'll definitely be back and I can't wait to try other menu items. Very tasty and the seating area is very convenient. Parking is a bit challenging as it seems the area wasn't originally designed with food trucks in mind and there are several nearby businesses, but I was able to find a spot close enough to walk over. 9.7/10 - The food is amazing, service is friendly, and prices are reasonable, but parking is limited. read more

This truck is in such a nice food truck park! I ordered the chicken pad Thai. You can choose the protein and spice level. The owner recommended going for the mild option, and I'm glad I listened. I enjoy spicy food but also deal with acid reflux, so I thought mild was the perfect amount of spicy. The only thing that was missing was the cilantro. I ordered lunch yesterday for clients and got myself the green curry. I was excited to try it and it was tasty until food poisoning kicked in. Within 30 minutes of eating the curry, my stomach ached then everything went down hill from there. I know it was the curry because it's the only thing I ate yesterday. Food truck...it's all the craze and has been for a few years now. You'd hope that one that sits in a food truck park all day every day would be good, right? Well, it is! I can't say I've had Thai food from a truck before and was a tad skeptical, but it was fantastic. Super flavourful and a good amount of spice. I'd say it could've used a bit more of the "protein", but I'm still thinking about how good it was and that overtakes that complaint. Try it! read more

Got the Chk Pad Thai, Shrimp Basil Fried Rice, and Crab Fried Rice. All amazing, especially the basil fried rice. Shrimp is the best I've ever had (and big, which is rare). I've been a few times now and it's my favorite thai in Austin. Consistent, great flavor, and the owner seems like a great guy. Gonna go down from "thai spicy" to regular "spicy" next time. I have been wanting to try out this highly recommended Thai food truck for so long and yesterday, decided that it was worth the 20 minute drive north to pickup food. The owner is certainly warm and friendly as everyone has mentioned. But you're here to know how the food was. The red curry is the best I've had in Austin! The flavoring was delicious and the thickness of the curry was just right. It made the drive worth it. The pad thai wasn't my favorite and I'm not sure what's different - the noodles were thicker than the usual. I cant wait to return and try the green curry next! read more

Prices are up $1.50 from the $9 on the menu photos, but don't let that deter you! What stood out about the pad see ew I got was how fresh the texture of the noodles were.. by far the freshest I've ever had. Usually thai noodles can be a bit on the dry side but these were just the right amount of bouncy and supple hahah. Appreciate that they had chili oil.. I'm used to Madam Maam's giving a huge portion of the oil but honestly the amount I got was just right.. if you asked for the dish to be spicy, it's spicy enough . The chili oil just adds a nice crunch and sweetness to the dish. The owners were very friendly! Looking forward to coming back to try out the some curry. read more

The food here is so fresh and delicious. I ordered the fried rice with tofu (mild). The portion is huge and food is very hot (right off the stove). Flavor is amazing. So many options in the food truck park, and so glad we decided on Wat Zab! Service was super friendly, and wait time was nominal (caveat, there was no line of people waiting). I went with the Pad Plick Pao stir-fry because I life spicy. Large portion, served with rice, and flavor galore. Wasn't the spiciest I've had, but a nice clean flavor with a kick. The Good: :: local business! owned by a charming couple. the chef is Thai, which explains why the food is so legit :: friendly service every time. the husband is so nice and courteous! :: food tastes great, has lots of flavor, and can have some heat. don't be afraid to ask them to pump up the heat levels! :: they sell beverages, too :: the bathroom next to them is for use by the food trailers. AWESOME because portopotties are foul as hell, let's be honest. it's nice to have access to an actual restroom, soap and water! :: lots of outdoor tables with shade :: playground for use by all the customers in the food trailer area :: they have both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options :: try their shrimp crispy rolls, pad thai, and tom yum soup! First of all, I was blown away by the texture of the noodles! Most places I've ordered from have noodles that are extremely dry or start sticking together after five minutes. I was a bit taken aback before I first tasted them because they were noticeably drenched and thought that would equal bland, but they were good and flavorful. I think it came at a medium spice level, and I'd probably be happy getting a bit more spicy next time. Food was good, no complaints there. The owners were also extremely nice! The owner is extremely nice! We got the pad Thai chicken and house fried rice with beef. The cook everything fresh to order. I really e joyed the house fried rice with beef. Lots of flavor. The beef was extremely good and tender. I really enjoyed my dish. Only 9.00 for a really nice sized box of fried rice. Again they do a great job with the beef and the flavor. My son had the chicken pad Thai. I tried some and It was full of flavor. Everything tasted really fresh. The owners gets all his recipes from his mom. So the food is legit. I am glad we found this place. Very affordable too. We paid 18.00 for dinner versus the over priced bbq we got earlier at Micklethwaits. 43.00 for small portion and average bbq. So yeah this super glad we found this place. Talked to the owner for a bit about Thai food and Houston Thai food. If you have every been to Houston you have to try the best spot in Houston. This tea was NOT WATERY!!!!! I loved it! I can't tell you how many times I've been to tea houses and it just never meets my expectations. My only disappointment was when it was all gone I was left wanting more! It's funny because I went specifically for food yet here am I reviewing the drink haha! I had the Pad Cashew for dinner. Pretty tasty, lots of rice included, & packed with flavor. There's not much brown sauce for the rice, but it suffices for the main mixture of the entree itself. I've been coming here for quite some time now and the staff is always kind & greets you with a smile. You honestly cannot beat this place & their prices. They are able to accommodate my requests in regards to making my pad Thai spicy. I love it! Cannot wait for them to open their restaurant because I will definitely be dining in! We stopped by here for some spur-of-the-moment curry. (Apparently we picked the right moment because there was parking available. That's probably the main problem for this food truck court: too many option, not enough parking spaces. I guess people usually park across the street?) Ok, the red curry (two peppers) was pleasantly spicy and very flavorful. (Ditto the veggie delight.) Tofu and veggies were all prepared just right. Since they make everything on the spot it was all quite perfect, and service was still pretty quick. The cheerful couple running the truck even explained the name of the truck, even though they probably do so a hundred times a day. Very warmly recommended. read more

I got their Pad Thai, a dish I don't often get as I often got the route of Drunken Noodles but I wanted to revisit Pad Thai so that was the direction I took foe this meal. It was very, very good ! The ingredients were fresh, the sauce and noodles were great! It was a decent sized meal which I appreciated as we had a very busy day ahead of us with shopping and being tourists and this meal was one of virtually all of the meals in Austin to be great to outstanding!

Tom kha soup - I thought this was very good and had a decent amount of chicken and mushrooms Overall I liked everything but some items I felt I had better versions of elsewhere. It's also on the pricier side. Still, if in central Austin I think it's a solid choice for Thai food.

We will usually order a dish with a specific spice level and this time we did not. I am so glad because I would say it already came at a level 5. It had just the right kick. The noodles and veg were perfectly cooked as was the beef. We also got an order of tiny dumplings with seasoned chicken filling. They were so cute and yummy we ate the entire thing and got an order to go. The restaurant itself has nice decor and it's super clean. I think the service from the staff sticks out the most and the food right after - and on a consistent basis that's just hard to find these days. I really didn't want to like these donuts, because who needs a $9 donut, right? But I have to…read moreadmit, they far exceeded my expectations. Just to be clear, I AM somewhat of a subject matter expert. I have eaten all manner of fried dough creations from coast to coast, including Hawaii, and I have a lot to say on the topic. My favorite is still Cider Belly in Albany, NY, but I digress. The PB&J donut here is one of the best things I have ever eaten. I dragged it out for 3 days. Even semi-stale, and reheated in the microwave, it was still delicious. I put a scoop of Blue Bell vanilla ice cream on it which definitely helped. I also ordered a Heavenly Hash (one of my favorite ice cream flavors BTW) and a Naughty and Nice because I am all about the classics. They were both outstanding. No leftovers. I bought these donuts in lieu of birthday cake this year which may become my new tradition. Honestly, I think these are my new favorite donuts in Austin now.

Next note- I feel like this is a low key meet up spot. Like the way they tried to make the first train cars on the MTA the singles car? There was a series of singles getting doughnuts and they were a little done up for the occasion. Who knows. Sammie's has been hyped up on social media for a long time and I gotta say it's still underrated! I will gladly have Sammie's take the Pepsi challenge against red sauce joints in NYC/NJ etc. In fact, I've told friends and family that I am going to take them to Sammie's when they visit from there. We just had such a fantastic experience - everything..the vibe..the red light fixtures and the color of the booths and the floor..the service - our server was great..loved their outfits..really had an old school little italy feel to it. The food was much better than I even anticipated - as a guy who grew up on NJ diner mozzarella sticks, I have a high bar for them and these were magnificent. And seriously...taking the "everything's bigger in Texas" slogan and applying them to mozzarella sticks?! top 10 achievements of the decade. The chicken parm was perfect - well seasoned, proper amount of crisp..the basil on top...the perfect browning of the cheese. Also the lasanga was excellent..and best part - the leftovers..took it home and the next two days put them in a small cast iron and re-heated them..and the magic was right there in my hill country kitchen! Lastly and certainly not least - the cannoli...just look at the photo below.. I'll say, yes, the place is pricey but you can really easily split these entrees and then it becomes cheaper than a jersey strip center Italian joint.
