This place was amazing! My husband and I got the Majestic Swimming Pool Suite for our 2 year wedding anniversary and we were in heaven. The room was so unbelievably clean, I wasn't worried for a second that I would be swimming or sleeping in somebody else's bodily fluids. It even looked like they had shampooed the carpet! I have no idea how anyone could say the place is filthy. I am a clean freak who can spot a stain or dust a mile away. There weren't even any dust mites on the coffeemaker like a hand towel usually leaves while cleaning them. I was going to ask what they use to clean their rooms with but forgot. The customer service was awesome. They didn't beat us over the head with information at all. They gave us our map, we signed our liability waivers, and we were on our way. Our room was ready at exactly 6. Later on in the night I had broken one of our champagne glasses, and the night girl gave us another for free. She was also very sweet and even helped us pick out champagne. She made sure our stay was going good and we were on our way. Oh, and my husband bought the balloons, champagne and glasses, and rose petals. It was an absolutely beautiful set-up. The only negatives are that our steamer wasn't working and one of the jet covers on the whirlpool blew off. We were disappointed about the steamer, BUT there are four heads in there that can be tilted and turned on hot so we made our own steamer! We didn't feel the need to go complain about it and it certainly didn't ruin our time. The place is so comfortable and there is so much to do that you would be ruining it by complaining about something so small. And it is a small something when you take into account what a perfect place it is for a getaway. Overall, we loved it. There are some small details that could be worked out. But flaws are expected when they have that much upkeep and there are 40 rooms. Their cleaning crew and customer service can't be beat. We felt comfortable and not once did it feel like a "soak n poke." OH YES!!! My husband told me there would be a pool and I told him we needed to bring floaties, he reluctantly let me grab some from the store and we brought them in boxes and blew them up there. Anyone who gets a pool in their room needs to do this. Or it would be even better if Sybaris offered them! After 1 night in our suite, I woke up on Friday head to toe in what appeared to be a reaction of some sort. I asked for hypoallergenic bedding, which was not possible to provide (even if I bought the detergent). I had an e-visit on Friday with a physician who confirmed it was a reaction to my surroundings and prescribed me an oral steroid. We received new, unwashed bedding and towels in hopes it would help. We attempted to enjoy or Saturday with me on less than 4 hours of sleep due to the discomfort. Saturday night rolled around and the reaction had worsened so bad that I didn't get more then 30 min of sleep (and even that was in the shower). Sunday morning, I was screaming and crying in the worst pain I have ever felt. My husband sent me to the nearest ER where I was rushed back and given several medications and bloodwork was taken via IV. I was diagnosed with chemical dermatitis covering over 90% of my body. Due to me being in the hospital, my husband asked if we could have a late checkout so he could be by my side at ER. We were refused and no additional options were provided to us. This means, I had to sit in an ER in complete misery without my husband on our "romantic getaway." Yes, the place is beautiful, but there is no amount of beauty that would make this trip even bearable. Literally, the WORST vacation of my entire life!!!! And let me add.... I didn't address the little annoyances so let's do that now.... The thermostat couldn't be set to auto. You could turn the heat/air on or off and "set a temp," but it wouldn't maintain so in the middle of the night, you had to get up and turn the heat off when you woke up sweating. We ordered champagne for our room. The website lists certain locations that substitute sparking wine and this is not one of those listed, but we received J. Roget (a $9 bottle of California sparking wine). When we received our never laundered bedding and towels, we didn't receive new robes. Instead I had to pay $50 for a robe that isn't laundered... but I got to keep it as a keepsake of my incredible experience (yes, it is plush and nice).... read more

I love this place! I do suggest looking around the internet for coupons or deals since they are pretty expensive. However, they are very clean and fun! If you have the opportunity and money, stay as long as possible! One night just doesn't cut it! I've only stayed in the paradise suite, but I'm hoping to stay in the chalet some day! The paradise suite offers a decent sized pool for two with the adjoined hot tub, a steam room, and a bathroom with his and hers sinks in the bathroom. I came for my honeymoon on Saturday and was surprised to find rose petals on the bed that I never even ordered! Check in was fast, friendly, and efficient. It was also no contact. When we drove into the little village where all of the room "huts" were, I was skeptical. While the grounds were very well kept, the exterior of the little houses looked sort of odd to me-like a little house made of concrete. We had a stay for 4 hours in a pool suite, then on to a 3-night stay in a deluxe hot tub suite. All I can say is that it was the most relaxing getaway I've ever had. The rooms were super clean. The amenities... Meaning the pool, steam room, and hot tubs were state of the art and in perfect working condition. I had no reservations about taking advantage of all of it. And sometimes I can be a little ticky about wet areas that I consider public. But not these! Super private. You won't see anyone unless you want to. Maybe a staff person buzzing by in their golf cart but that's it! Also, the bed in the room is super comfortable. I am not sure what kind of mattress it is but we both loved it. Many times when we travel my husband has trouble sleeping in strange rooms. He said that it was the best night sleep he's ever gotten away from home. That is really saying a lot! This one is located in an area where there's tons of restaurants. There's about four or five places that deliver for free (they'll give you those menus at check-in) but we were able to also find some DoorDash options. So if you don't want to go out for food there are plenty of options. And if you feel comfortable enough to go out for carry out, there's a huge amount of options! This place is incredible. Very clean room and pool and everything was perfect. It's not cheap but I feel for everything that it was the price was fair. Front desk was very nice and check in was easy and pleasant. My wife and I got the paradise suite and the pool was surprisingly deep. You can legit swim in this it's not a wading pool. The hot tub connected to the pool was hot and jets are strong. There is a steam shower room next to the pool that was really nice. Overall highly recommend!! read more

A colleague continually sang the praises of this place as a retreat with her beau. No matter how she described it, my mind kept thinking "cheese". Images of mirrored ceilings, spinning heart-shaped beds, velvet paintings on the walls, and fake fur comforters assailed my senses. "Bloody hell it isn't like that!" she'd say. Still, the caricature of a "Love, American Style" shack persisted. One day, my (then) fiance and I decided to drive over to have a look. We'd rented a chalet for a night and day and thought the worst that could happen is we'd swim in the pool and partake in the steam room. As we drove into the property, I silently groaned. How could any place right off the main drag truly contain the Taj Mahal? Inside the lobby, there were flavoured body oils, sexual "aids" and spicy movies for rent. Lovely that...could one perhaps rent a pimp's outfit as well? The person behind the counter didn't seem to appreciate my humour on that score. C'est la vie. And then an odd thing happened. As we made our rounds through the little campus, it began to actually feel like this might be fun. We located our room and pulled into the one car garage. As soon as the door closed, an overwhelming sense of quiet and "goodbye cruel world" sunk in. We opened the door into the unit and smiled. Yeah baby, who's getting nekkid first! Heh. There was a nice sized pool with a slide and waterfall, and a separate smaller section attached with warmer waters and jets. Up above was a loft with a bedroom, an enclosed steam room, a large double-sided fireplace, and an oversized tub in the bathroom which kept sucking us under the bubbles we'd added. The bed was large, and yes --- there were mirrored ceilings which actually turned out to be fun, and well...ahem..educational. There were no phones, no windows...and no rush. We had a smashing time, and would highly recommend it. We even discussed buying the architectural plans from the Knudsons to re-create this at home, but decided it was best to keep things like this as a special treat away. Instead, we have lasting memories and a lovely gold rose to remind us of this haven only a few miles away. read more

READ THIS REVIEW !!! ABSOLUTE TRUTH!! My husband and I DID visit this place/location twice for a couple of lost afternoons. We always got the pool suite - it seemed very nice. On our second visit...he had had a tough day at the office so after...well, you know...he decided to take a nap. Not tired, I stayed in the hot-tub portion of the room. I was looking around at the room from the comfort of the pool and happened to notice a small but bright light coming from behind the shutter-front closet door. So I got out of the pool to investigate. Opening the door, I realized it was covering a glass door to the outside that I assume was used for the cleaning crew as access when cleaning out the pool). The glass door was covered with dark contact paper for privacy...but a patch had been torn away (about the size of a dollar bill). That's strange. Why would that be? It was clearly used to look into the room through the slates of the shuttered closet door..but what could they see from that angle? I pressed my back against the glass door and closed the shuttered door (standing between the two) so that I would be at the height that someone might be looking in from the outside, and I could clearly see right into the hot-tub. Exactly the spot where.... well you can imagine what that spot is used for. I woke my husband up and we left immediately. We have never returned nor would I suggest anyone else either!! I had heard rumors that you could and might very well be watched - but this was the proof for me. I was not there for anyone else's entertainment. From now on - we stay at home. My fiancé and I first stayed at the Sybaris in 2013. Since we had an awesome experience, we decided to do a the "Double Your Pleasure Getaway". I made our reservation on 2/12/14 for a weekend in March. We reserved the Swim Spa Suite. A few minutes after my phone call, I received my confirmation email. This should have been a HUGE RED FLAG: It said I made a reservation for the Deluxe Whirlpool suite. I called back and the guy said "oh, yeah, I always forget to mention that we don't actually have reservation for the Swim Spa Suite, so it defaults to the deluxe suite. I'll make a note that you reserved the Swim Spa Suite." Come check in day, we get there early and wait for a while (understandably, they were busy). Our check in was quick and we got our key to our suite. When we opened the door, we realized that gave us the Deluxe Whirlpool NOT the Swim Spa. We go back to the front desk, we tell them we got the wrong suite. A guy then goes and talks to the manager about the situation, and we clearly hear that they don't have any other Swim Spa Suites available (this should have been the second red flag). About 10 minutes later, they gave us a new room key. We go to the suite, and it's the correct one. Finally. There were things wrong with the room that we didn't notice until we were on our last day: the steam shower wasn't working, the sink in the kitchenette area was leaking. We put two and two together (no rooms available - BAM! We got the broken suite!). We made the front desk aware of this when we were checking out. We got a comment card and filled it out with these same complaints. I checked off that I wanted to speak with a manager. The guy at the desk said they would check into our comments. It's been over a month and we still haven't heard from the Sybaris. Needless to say, we probably won't be staying at the Sybaris for a 3rd year in a row. read more

First off, get over your ridiculous fear of the place being unclean. The place is spotless, clean. And guess what goes on in every single hotel room you've ever slept in? Well, here, at least they recognize that, and go the extra mile to keep it clean. There should be more places like this! Dark (no windows), warm, lit like a nightclub or strip club or limo with flashing colored lights, big bed with a hook in the ceiling for a love swing, mirrors EVERWHERE. Each "room" is actually it's own a little building, so no worries about disturbing the neighbors if you like to get a little vocal when you have fun. A few critiques, to keep it real. The tv and sound system needs updating, it is at least 10 years old and we had problems with the tv, the cd player, etc. But, the free porn channel on the tv was nice. And some better instructions for the hottub, steam room, etc, would be nice. Go. Now. Have fun! read more

We got the Deluxe whirlpool. It was simply amazing. It came with a king sized bed, a steamer room, a whirlpool jacuzzi that fit 2, microwave and refrigerator. Sybaris was everything I had imagined even with my friends and my boyfriend implying that it was a "whoopie" hotel with all the related negative connotations. I had no preconceived notion about Sybaris. All I saw was a romantic getaway deal on livingsocial that included a private pool. I had floated the idea to my boyfriend for our 1st anniversary prior to purchase and he replied, "You want to go a "whoopie" hotel?" I was thinking it would be great for my boyfriend and me, especially since he could be a little self-conscious at a public hotel pool or beach. There was a small parking lot for check-in. Once you enter the lobby, there were many items to enhance your stay for purchase from the obvious like alcohol to a little more adventurous items, as well as personal robes and mugs, etc. The reason why it's not four stars was that the check-in left much to be desired. I know that they are trying to be discreet, however there was no positive/upbeat or even any energy coming from the person at the front desk. She gave us a map to our bungalow and it turns out there was construction on the path that she had indicated on the map. That was just poor information dissemination. She did mention that there were a variety of food delivery places that would deliver straight to our door. FYI those menus are located on the side table. Each bungalow had at least one dedicated parking spot. The livingsocial deal was for a Paradise Pool Suite (the smallest of the suites with its own pool), one dozen chocolate-covered strawberries (retail $40), and Sybaris membership (retail ~$30). It was beautiful, clean and exactly what I had imagined and not sordid at all. The living area (enclosed by a clear wall) featured a king size bed, bar area with sink, mini fridge (and they give you a bag of ice), and microwave. There is a nice toiletries basket on the bathroom double sink area which is separated from the toilet and bath are. Behind an adjacent door, there is a toilet, bidet, and a standing shower with a seat built in. Across from the bed, there is a seating area for two and the tv and fireplace. There are light switches everywhere so it's an adventure to figure out which are the real lighting and mood lighting switches. In our bungalow, the tv could swivel out to be seen from the pool area. The pool area was amazing. The hot tub, steam room, and rain fall were all great and working. The decor was a little classic, maybe dated for some, but I had the best experience even with the mirrors everywhere. Highly recommend for couples! read more

I remember this place from the fun weekends back when I was a younger spritely little scamp (a.k.a. ho fo sho) and I can't believe it actually got a ROTD. "Sybaris Inn?" I think to myself, "Not the same skeezy weekend retreat for mommies and daddies??" The one and only. Do you remember the commercials for Sybaris with the slide and the romantic couple playing with the swing over the hot tub? It was synonymous with my childhood memories of the 1-800-EMPIRE guy and the Andrianna furs ladies. And then one day, we all snuck in for a hedonistic weekend of debauchery and drunken forgotten memories. Ah, college. The place was actually pretty damn cozy and the staff was non-existent while the cottages themselves were self enclosed and self sufficient. This place is fun and cheesy while not taking away from what it truly is-a weekend retreat place for married couples. The leopard sheets, the heart shaped bed and the magic fingers say it all. The only reason I say "ewwww" slightly is because of the memories of my poor friend cleaning these rooms after the weekend retreats of luuuuurve had by the soccer moms and dads. Poor him. read more

I booked from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. I have to admit that I was nervous because I wanted the surprise to be perfect and I was afraid he wouldn't like the place. We only left the suite to go out for dinner and a Bulls game on Saturday. But we loved it so much that we didn't want to leave at all. The only minor problem was that the TV remote was not working well and the "Adult DVD" that they provide was like 40 's style ... that was about it ! Stayed at Sybaris in a whirlpool suite for our 2-year wedding anniversary. We drove in from Rockford after attending a friend's wedding all weekend, and we just stayed the one night then drove back the next day. We used an Amazon Local deal that included 12 chocolate covered strawberries, which were delivered to us upon check-in (which was very quick and easy). The staff at the front desk were very courteous and friendly. The room was very well-appointed and clean. I appreciated the cleanliness even more when I realized how dirty a room can get after two people stay there one night (and we didn't do anything unusual). I did notice a slight "mildew" smell when we entered, but it was very faint. Also, it's no wonder since the room is covered in carpet and has a steam room as well as a whirlpool tub and a shower that isn't separated by a door. So yea, I wasn't surprised or even too dismayed at the smell. I will note that after having used the steam room and the tub and introduced all that moisture into the air that the room did take on a heavier odor that stuck with us the rest of the time. My hair smelled like it when we left. Kind of a turn-off, but again - not too surprising. The carpeted bed-frame gave me pause just a little, but it was fine in the end. The bed was very comfortable. The massage chair was awesome, and the TV channels had everything we wanted (heh heh). The whirlpool tub was nice, but of course very loud to fill it and to run it. Hard to watch TV from within the tub, just saying. Also the TV doesn't pivot so it's hard to view from the tub if you want to. There's a private thermostat, which is nice. I think the main thing that was surprising was the amount of noise everything makes - filling the tub, running the jets, having the heat or AC on, the steam room, etc. Normally this is all part of a larger building, if you're experiencing any/all of it, and so you don't notice as much of the mechanical noises as you do when it's all one private room. Just something I hadn't thought about, but not really an issue. Having a microwave and fridge (with ice pre-stocked!) was amazing. They have a TON of delivery menus in the lobby too, so they make it really easy for you to go to your cabin, take off your pants, order pizza, put on a robe, and never leave until check-out time. Their toiletries are really nice. I especially loved the lotion scent. Gorgeous! Overall we had a really nice, relaxing time. Tips: Bring your own drinks/food, especially if you're staying more than one night. We had meant to do this, but since we were arriving at the tail end of a long weekend filled with other events we had forgotten and immediately wished we'd remembered. We could have driven out to get something and come back, but once we arrived we didn't want to leave, so we just ordered pizza from Pino's (their "pan" crust is almost like deep dish, by the way!!) and that was our dinner and breakfast, hah. Speaking of food, bring your own plastic silverware if you think you are going to eat anything that isn't 100% finger food. The pizza was so gooey that we wished we had knives and forks (don't shame me, it was hot!) but we had none. That's something that they could provide and it would be AWESOME. They already have coffee and all the little amenities that go with that, so a couple packets of plastic silverware would be a huge help. Be careful with the bidet - the water in ours was so hot, almost scalding, that I dared not use it. It seemed like there was one knob to turn water on/off, one diverter knob, and one knob to change the height/pressure of the spray. Maybe I hadn't fully figured out how to operate the darn thing, but it didn't seem like there was a cold water control... here's a useful "How To" page for those going in the future! From what the front desk said, we had one of the newer rooms so everthing was super clean, new and comfortable. Room temperature pool, sauna room w/duo shower heads, big huge bed with fresh sheets, plasma tv, surround sound, sharper image massage chair, mini fridge... *sigh* ...it was SOOO RELAXING! Checking in is a bit awkward just because it's not really a secret why you're there - but overrall it was a geat experience - i was highly impressed and we're looking forward to going back again. I was there today for my first time and it was soo nice. We stayed in the majestic room overnight for our anniversary. You go in and get your own little bungalow. Everything was clean and seemed pretty new. The steam room is the best- 2 shower heads hanging from the ceiling and 1 separate head so you can shoot each other with the water. And I love how they have an aux chord and speakers everywhere so you can leave your iPod by the tv and listen to it throughout the place. The only complaints I have is to clean the drain/ lint roll the sheets better. I saw some hair. And the TV is really small. And to provide more towels! This place is amaze-balls. I've been here two or three times I think, each time in the Paradise suite. The bed is so comfy, the under bed lighting and in-pool lighting is super swanky, and since the suite is a building unto itself, no irritating noise from the neighbors! The only suggestion I have is to maybe update the old shag carpeting, and make sure all of the surround speakers are working occasionally! During one of our stays, one of the speakers kept making this scary crackling sound, which was a little distracting..... Otherwise the place is always nice and clean when I come - fresh robes on the bed, clean mini-fridge for my wine/snacks, cable to hook up my iPod, coffee for the morning, sexy mirrors on the ceiling - what more do you need? read more

Disclaimer: My visit here was a few years ago. Pros: We had a very nice private cabin, clean to the naked eye, with what Steve Martin termed that impersonal hotel-room quality that makes you want to take off your clothes and start effing. I rather enjoyed the placement of mirrors (above bed and around deep, spacious jacuzzi), the bidet, the enormous steam/shower room, and the corny "massage" VHS tape set above the television. The room decor was soft and inviting, the lighting most forgiving to my admittedly unforgivable complexion and physique. Cons: Bad "champagne", hokey chocolate rose, bizarrely over-hard bed with standard hotel-room sheets. I'm not a thread-count snob, but one would think a "romance resort" could invest more in bedclothes. Overall: Is it worth a few hundo to feel a bit like a porn star? This is what my husband & I did for our honeymoon - and we loved it! There were some snickers from outside the family/friends, probably based on the slightly cheesy commercials, but we ignored them, and I'm so glad we did. Each suite is in a stand-alone building. Don't have to worry about neighbors if you're shy. We had the simplest package, and it was just a room and a spacious bathroom (bidet was awesome). But we had the massage chair (yes, please, can I take it home with me?) and the hot tub--or was it a whirlpool tub?--plus gas fireplace. Big bed, lots of mirrors, and area-specific lighting. You can pay extra and they'll bring in champagne and scatter rose petals on the bed before you get there. Fridge and microwave, so bring in your own nibbles if you don't want to go out. A few caveats: if you're large sized, expect things to be a little small. The complimentary robes, for example--and I was afraid to try the love swing; would the hook support me? Well, I can be a little self-conscious. Also, the TV/stereo was tricky and we never did find the free porn other reviewers have mentioned. And you can always bring your laptop etc, but there is no WiFi here. Cell bars, yes, WiFi no. This is meant to be a romantic getaway with little or no intrusion by the outside world. (now if you have a mobile hot spot...) It was the perfect getaway for an "in town" honeymoon and we can't wait to do it again! (hopefully upgrading to a bigger suite) read more

It should be noted that you are required to purchase a $30.00 membership to use the Sybaris facilities. The membership is good for a year and is added on to the room price the first time you book a room. The rooms in Northbrook facility are amazing. They are extremely clean and the amenities are fantastic. We stayed in the swim spa room. They do not have the swim spa at all locations so be sure to call when you book. At our request they sprinkled rose petals on the bed, very romantic. I really enjoyed our over night stay at the Sybaris. They also have afternoon stays as well. Well, I finally did it! I booked a room at the Sybaris, you know, that place that you've seen commercials for since you were a little kid. The place that always made you say, "Man I want to go there!" only for your mom to quickly tell you, "That is a place for adults!". Boy, was she right! That's likely what makes the Sybaris so enjoyable. It's all of the awesomeness that you want and look forward to when staying at a hotel/resort, but with none of the pitfalls that accompany it. (for example, loud kids, late night foot traffic, drunks stumbling down the halls, getting the dreaded right-next-to-the-elevator room, etc.) We booked a Paradise suite for an overnight stay to celebrate my girlfriend's end of tax season. She works for a CPA and has long, 6 day a week hours from mid January through April 15th. So, the following weekend, I treated her to a nice little luxurious stay at Sybaris. This place has it all, your own private swimming pool, massage chairs, hot tubs, steam rooms, mirrors above the bed (wink, wink), a stereo system and a nice bathroom complete with bidet'! If you're looking for a weekend away from the daily grind and away from the kids, this is THE place to go. I've deducted one star for the simple fact that the suite we were in could have used some updating. Don't get me wrong, it was still relaxing and perfect for us, but they could go in and fix the cracked grout, the squeaky pipes and give you a slightly more comfortable mattress for the price. I have very little to say along the way of negativity other than the need for some minor upkeep and maintenance since the suites are so pricey. While the rooms look very dated, it's so nice to get away and not have to worry about noisy neighbors or kids running up and down the halls. It's very secluded and relaxing. Go for a Deluxe room at least because the steam room is the best part. read more

My better half and I had a great weekend get-a-way! The staff was friendly and courteous. The room was fantastic- very clean and everything worked great. A little expensive, but well worth it. The bed was comfy, the pool was relaxing (also warm and clean) and the sauna was fantastic. Very romantic trip and would love to go again! Visit the one in Northbrook- they are awesome! read more

I stayed in this location (in Paradise Suits) with my boyfriend. It was the most romantic night in my life. Everything was perfect with the hotel. People at the frontdesk were really friendly. The room was breath-taking, it is actually a special small house just for you. No neighbors, maximum privacy. We were really impressed about the cleanness and all the facilities of the room. The bed was so comfy and there was a mirror at the top :) Swimming pool with a whirlpool and a waterfall... What else can a hotel have? It is amazing. We were surprised to learn that there is no wi-fi at first. But really, who needs wi-fi in this room? Bring your food and drink, the room has everthing you need. I decided to reserve the Paradise Suite for my boyfriend and I as a late Valentine's Day surprise. We added on the extra stay option and stayed from 6 pm to 3 pm the next day. We've never been here before and we were surprised that each room was its own personal building. GREAT for privacy. They have a built in stereo system and it was nice to enjoy the pool area while listening to music. The pool had a "waterfall" in the middle and a connecting hot tub. Different light options were available for the pool; we liked the purple and red lights. The steam room was in the pool area but we didn't utilize it. I added on the bottle of champagne, balloons and single rose/rose petals on the bed. Super cute and my boyfriend thought it was romantic. It was an extra $45 but it was definitely worth it. The bed was pretty comfy. They have mirrors everywhere in the room as well as a massage chair. Super unique and we loved it. All in all we'll definitely return for another visit. We're probably going to try the Frankfort location; it just looks a bit more updated/modern. 4.5/5 stars read more
