Slightly overdone on the outside which provided a delightful and slight crunch and the inside had the traditional custardy texture. I believe we found a wonderful new brunch spot. read more

The Castello Plan has become a cherished annual tradition for my family. We always stop in after visiting the nearby Ditmas Park Halloween House[1], and it's the perfect way to end our neighborhood adventure. What I love most is the genuine neighborhood warmth. The salvaged wood interior and candlelit ambiance create this inviting space that feels both historic and lived-in. It's cozy enough for a relaxed family dinner but still feels special. We've worked our way through quite a bit of the menu over the years. The mushroom tagliatelle is rich and satisfying, the crispy chicken sandwich hits the spot, and the charred orange cauliflower couscous topped with smoked salmon is a real standout--beautifully balanced. The pan-fried okra and fried shrimp are great for sharing, and the rainbow beet salad adds a nice fresh note. I also appreciate how kid-friendly they are without dumbing anything down. Really like the vibe of this place. Very neighborhoody, with great food, ample bar, coffee menu, and friendly service. My dining companion and I both had the burgers and we could not say enough about them. Side salad, pickles, chive aioli were all nice additions. When we walked in we were told to sit where we we wanted (there were only 2 other tables occupied) so we proceeded to sit outside at a 4 seater table. Still a good place for indoor brunch but be wary of ordering online for pickup. Because i had work to do in the house and castello is relatively close by and they have potato latkes, I decided to do a pickup order through the page provided on their website and not through Uber eats or similar. Put in my order at 11:10 approx and I received a text that my order was inputted and I would be notified when it was ready plus the order status on the phone page. It was an hour and a half later when there was no movement on the text nor the status page (no phone calls either). So I decided to go and see by chance if the place was busy or something went wrong. I arrived and it took a while for someone at the bar to ask what I needed. Turns out my order was there but they didn't input it that it was ready. As a result, the food was well cold. Our server gave us great drink recommendations and they were by far the MOST delicious drinks we've had in ages! They truly hit the spot! Just the combination of flavors especially the candied walnuts are so satisfying. This salad is huge and I'm thinking it needs to be wrapped up My main course, is uncharacteristically, a grass/fed beef burger. It comes and I'm like...WOW! Delicious. The beef is medium fine with cheddar red onions and tomato on a brioche bun. I crazily ordered salad with it! Just after I couldn't eat the endive salad. No biggie.. Every time I come here for drinks at night, I am shocked by how there are only a few others as I'd expect it to be a lot more crowded given the lovely ambiance and quality of cocktails. The Castello Plan is by far my favorite spot for drinks in the area. Such an amazing spot definitely deserves more attention. But I do love that it tends not to be crowded because it feels really intimate and cozy. They have a good weekend brunch menu as well. I've tried their chicken and waffles (topped with strawberries) as well as their crab Benedict. I wasn't super impressed by the crab Benedict and it didn't come with that much crab, but I would recommend the chicken and waffles. If you opt for their bottomless brunch deal, they serve a greater variety of drinks than other places that do bottomless and it is definitely worth the price. Two dishes that we ordered with chicken as an addition was extremely disappointing. The chicken was flat, dry, and very plain... There is a specific stink of chicken that is prominent after defrosting and I could not get that taste out of my mouth. I did not expect to have my entire dish ruined by the chicken. I've had inconsistent experiences here but often chalk it up to extenuating circumstances. I thought maybe it's because I came on a busy day. It was as if the servers agreed to do the bare minimum. (Two blonde females) There were just so many issues. I asked for horseradish from the young lady who brought out my oysters. When it didn't come after a significant amount of time, I finally caught the attention of my original waitress who curtly informed me that there was no horseradish. I decided therefore to just use the condiments provided.... Only to have someone walk up to me with horseradish as I'm finishing my plate. I received my food relatively quickly. After tasting my meal, I looked around repeatedly for wait staff but there was no one around. The meat was not medium. It was overcooked. I decided not to make it into a thing. The steak, potatoes and spinach were strangely underseasoned considering it was drowning in some thin red liquid sauce. I ended up having to walk inside the restaurant to ask for salt and pepper since no one came over. Not once did anyone come to check on me, ask me if I need anything or see how the meal was going. I sat and waited for a check. I was literally seconds away from going inside a second time to ask for my check and a box. After a very long wait, I caught the eye of the second waitress who was dealing with a group in the front to bring those items. Maybe they were overwhelmed with the number of customers but now there's one less customer that they'll have to deal with: me . The flavor profile is just absolutely so full of variety and depth and it was so good. In the winter, I always have soup so I had to try their Butternut Squash soup and topped with pumpkin seeds for a nice semi-salty crunch...yum!!! First we booked a reservation online and they said they never received it so we had wait for a table for about 10 minutes which wasn't too bad but there's no place to wait so we basically stood in the middle of the dining room. The service is so incredibly bad, short staffed and packed to their max. The person came and took our order and never wrote it down, so 30 minutes later she came back and says please tell me your order again the kitchen lost the ticket. At that time I asked for water which was never offered. 45 minutes in and still didn't receive our drinks or food. The first time we came here it was great, this time was a nightmare. I went here once and ended up waiting an hour for a burger and a beer; knowing the prices beforehand, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth but decided that maybe they were extra busy that day, considering that the place was packed. This time, I entered an empty restaurant to the greeting of a kind waitress and bartender who sat me. Had a lavender gimlet, which was nice, and ordered the steak frites. They arrived within 10 minutes, at a tepid temperature, and soaked in au jus. Now, I have nothing against Au Jus, however this was NOT au jus. This was barely-flavored meat water, that ended up soaking my meat and cooling it to lower than room temperature, as well as the rest of my plate (fingerlings and sautéed spinach). The steak, under seasoned; the spinach, under seasoned; the potatoes, CRIMINALLY under seasoned. I don't think any part of the plate saw a lick of salt or pepper, at least that's how it tasted. I cannot stress enough that I was astounded at how the whole plate was virtually soaking wet. This was a very disappointing dinner. I'm far from wealthy, i'm constantly broke, so these dinners are a treat where I can leave the house and try and unwind, so spending $40+ on something I could have purchased and cooked correctly for less than that was a tremendous disappointment. Again, wait staff and bartender were excellent and very kind, good at their jobs. Whatever was going on in the kitchen, however, is actively taking business away from this restaurant.
