Cannot say enough about the tender braised beef goulash at Werkstatt. And those pretzels! The best in NY (as advertised). My dining companions enjoyed the paprika chicken and mussels, though the former was a tad "heavy" and the latter turned out to be quite spicy. The draft wine didn't go over well but the replacement glass was very good. Noisy but fun atmosphere, and friendly service.

Wow!! What can I say but WOW!! Having just driven in from Christmas in Coastal Virginia we were hoping to eat a hot dinner quickly. Ready to settle for any place my son ordered from, I was delighted when I saw the restaurant he chose was Austrian & German cuisine. He knows I loved German food, which I attribute to my one German/Swiss family line that I identify with so closely. It's definitely overrides other lineages in my genes. Everything on the menu looked terrific. I decided on the Tender Beef Goulash with Spratzle. It had been quite some time since I had good Goulash. Of course a side of Sauerkraut was required. I wasn't prepared for how tender & delicious the beef was prepared. It was a perfect cut of beef & so tender it was easily cut with a fork. The gravy was equally delicious. I finished the beef quickly & mixed the Spratzle in the gravy, topping with Sauerkrauts, Yummy!! My Pescatarian son ordered the Salmon with Brussel Sprouts & Risotto. He immediately commented on how tender both the Brussel Sprouts & Salmon were. It was a 5 Star dinner for both. The restaurant itself is in Prospect Park South. Although delivery was quick & the food was delicious, I really want to visit the restaurant itself. The award winning Owner Chef has a menu filled with entrees that are so enticing. I want to experience the ambiance of its authentic charm. Werkstatt is permanently on my list of the "Best of the Best" in Brooklyn.

I have never had Austrian food before but we visited Hungary earlier this year and fell in love with the food there. We got so excited when we saw they have goulash and paprika chicken here. We got the braised beef goulash and the calamari and kielbasa. The Austrian goulash is a bit different than the Hungarian ones I've had in the past. It's thicker and even feels more like a sauce stew than a soup. We wanted to savor every drop of the sauce and it pairs so well with the spatzle. The beef was so tender and juicy and the spice captivating. I am a sucker for calamari but I surprisingly liked the kielbasa better than the calamari within the appetizer dish. Our first visit was a take out order and it was packaged nicely. The inside is very cozy and a pub-like atmosphere. I highly recommend giving this place a try! Can't wait to come back again and try their chicken paprika and other dishes as well. They do have a preference for cash payment.

Is a vaccine card needed for outdoor dining?

We do not require vaccination proof for outdoor dining. However, on the outside part of our back room, we do require vaccination proof due to its proximity to the indoor diners. I hope this is helpful.

The salvaged wood interior and candlelit ambiance create this inviting space that feels both historic and lived-in. It's cozy enough for a relaxed family dinner but still feels special. We've worked our way through quite a bit of the menu over the years. The mushroom tagliatelle is rich and satisfying, the crispy chicken sandwich hits the spot, and the charred orange cauliflower couscous topped with smoked salmon is a real standout--beautifully balanced. The pan-fried okra and fried shrimp are great for sharing, and the rainbow beet salad adds a nice fresh note. I also appreciate how kid-friendly they are without dumbing anything down. My kids are happy with their chicken poppers and quesadilla while we enjoy the more adventurous stuff. The place is named after Jacques Cortelyou's famous 17th-century map of Manhattan, and somehow that history feels present without being gimmicky. It's just a really solid neighborhood spot that makes you appreciate Ditmas Park. Cortelyou Road has a lot to offer; The Castello Plan is a great option to grab a tasty bite while exploring the neighborhood. Extra point for a killer music selection the night we visited, featuring Foo Fighters, David Bowie, Queen, Dire Straits, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Simple Minds, Eric Clapton, and more! ------------------------------- [1] https://www.yelp.com/biz/ditmas-park-halloween-house-brooklyn

It's stylish without being pretentious, and the space just feels good to hang out in. The drinks are really well made, balanced, interesting, and clearly crafted by bartenders who know what they're doing. The crowd is always chill, too. It has that neighborhood-but-still-trendy energy where you feel comfortable right away. They've got small bites if you want something to snack on, and there's a really fun back room that almost feels like a hidden little lounge. And I have to mention the bathroom because... it's definitely interestingly decorated. Unique in the best, quirkiest way. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was the complete opposite. We arrived right when they opened, sat at the bar, and ended up spending around $200. Once the bar got busy, it felt like we were completely forgotten. After finishing our drinks, we waited about 40 minutes trying to order another round. When we finally got the bartender's attention, instead of acknowledging the wait or apologizing, he simply told us he had "many drinks before us." We waited another 30 minutes before deciding to just ask for the check. There was no apology for the delay, no "thank you," and no goodbye after we'd spent a significant amount of money. He handed us the check and walked away as if he couldn't have cared less. It also seemed like he was the only person behind the bar who knew how to make the cocktails, which created a bottleneck all night. That's an operational issue, but unfortunately it was made much worse by the lack of customer service. We know this place is capable of providing a great experience because we've had it twice before. Hopefully this was just an off night, but based on this visit, we'd definitely think twice before returning.
