Alright.... So I have renewed my lease for another year. Sycamore does a pretty good job keeping up with the property. When I moved in I was greeted by a friendly staff that made my move in a good experience. The tenants, my neighbors, have been pretty friendly as well. Living here, you get the feel of a friendly welcoming community. Everyone seems to be considerate to each other for the most part. The only thing that can be bothersome, especially for dog owners, is seeing dog poop that wasn't picked up by the dog owner. Man... that's annoying. Especially when there are poop bags in lots of locations around Sycamore Bay to prevent this from happening. I need to be extra careful that my dog doesn't accidentally steps on dog poop when he wonders into the grass. Other than that minor nuisance with the poop, no complaints. I love it here. read more

Currently here, we just resigned another year. Great community. Maintenance is quick to fix any issues that arise. Apartments are a great size for small families. Front desk staff is pleasant. One complaint I have: We are on the first floor. The neighbors above us are so loud at night. When they walk. It's as if they're stomping around throughout the apartment. I can hear everything they drop / do. I can hear the chairs screeching across the floors. I have complained and it subsided for a while. But it's throughout the night. It's so loud at times. It wakes up myself and my children. read more

I lived here twice. I had to cut the lease early the first time due to a neighbor that was very disturbing. The manager at the time was Grace and although my first three months of living there was very unpleasant, I also know that she did what she can to help and I just got unlucky. She was a great manager and I felt like my concerns were acknowledged by her. About a year and a half later, I decided to give this place another try. Their customer service declined drastically. I ended up getting a unit in building 9 and living in that building was terrible. Some neighbors around that building are inconsiderate of others. The stairs were always dirty; someone's dog is always urinating and the dog owner isn't considerate enough to clean up after their pets. A neighbor's package got urinated by another neighbor's dog and the dog owner don't even the conscience or guilt to say sorry genuinely. If you are pet owner, you should know how to take care and clean up after your pets. You also see random trash that people don't bother picking up. Aside from that, my car also end up getting stolen. For context, Building 9 is all the way in back and close to the exit gate by the train tracks. Sometimes, the gate stops working and I think that makes it easier for some to sneak inside the complex. I have feeling that my car was stolen by someone who lives in the apartment, there are sketchy neighbors. As few of my packages got stolen as well. There's even an instance where I went the mailbox and saw someone's package cracked open, like someone took a look into what's inside the package and decided not to take it. I relayed all these issues to the new property management and they didn't really do much about it and it was very frustrating for them to not try to help me in any kind of way. Like I said, their customer service is terrible. They take days up to WEEKS to respond to your emails as if that your concerns are not work taking a look into. For the price they're charging now, you're better off paying a couple hundred extra for a way nicer apartment. If you're a person that enjoys convenience, this community is not the most convenient, especially if you live on the top floor as it does not have an elevator. You'll have trouble moving any big and long furniture as the stairs are very narrow. Also, they will charge you move-out fees for anything, even if you leave the unit in a move-in ready condition/condition that does not exceed the normal wear and tear. The unit that I had already was not in the best condition (broken blinds, poor paint and patch job, and the bathroom needed maintenance). They also partnered with a terrible, scamming towing company (Al Braun's) that will find anyway to get people's money so beware. read more

Rose and Javier are the most unprofessional agents ever. I waited weeks for my results for my application because it usually takes 1-2 days to get it back through email or call. Rose didn't bother emailing me nor calling me, responding to my voicemail, i also had problems with the credit screening application so I emailed them to get back to me. When they did Javier expected me to know that my application got approved, how? I received no emails or calls. When Javier helped me out, he gave me a lot of run arounds just to tell me we can't even move forward with your application. So why would you have me fill out a gurantor application just to run my screening and and not even wait for the results from the third party application? Update I just heard from the third-party called guarantor which also helps you with your deposit, they are willing to help me, but the apartment manager told them that my application was denied because Javier decided that it's OK to run my credit again when I sent him an email saying I'm waiting for the third-party to get back to me read more

It's like a diamond in the rough here in Newark and I'm happy to be apart of it. Cathy, the community manager, has been the best point of contact for anything regarding our experience here; She is very helpful, courteous and professional. Yes, the trains are absolutely terrible, some tenants are above the rules and management only cares about enforcing the parking policy because they make money from it. If they say they don't, they're lying...I have spoken to the tow truck company several times and they confirmed that the property gets money for each car towed. I've lived here for over 5 years and each month things just keep getting worse. Sadly I'm stuck here because of my wife's job and for the kids...they love their school. Management and office staff seem to change faster here than any place I've ever lived and I really don't blame them, it must be hell working for Shea Properties. Oh, it's a nice cool day or evening and you want to open your windows, think again. The unending amount of trains that seem to pass by every other hour will make sure to annoy the hell out of you and wake you up during the night. Or, as I type this I'm unable to breathe thanks to someone using the BBQ grill right next to my window. Who thought this was a good idea? Also, people don't clean up after themselves, they leave the grill burning even after they're gone...literally some of the worst people I have ever lived around. The amount of homeless people that harass all of us is down right scary. I'm a 6'3", 235 lb guy and they still try to follow me around at night as they go from dumpster to dumpster. The security that patrols here is a joke. The homeless people waved at them from the trash. Our lease clearly states that you can not use your garage for anything other than for parking a car and some storage. Multiple tenants do not follow this rule. One guy I know runs an Amazon business out of his garage. Another resident has a full workshop with drills, microscopes and can be heard sanding and drilling at all hours of the night. I know at least 5 people that have informed the office of this and nothing has been done....for over 5 years. They try to blame Covid and the fact that more people are working from home...um no, but nice try. Management is no help, they don't care about the tenants, but they will put on a real good show for you. The people that currently work in the office, don't even live here. Updating review to say that shortly after becoming aware of the review upper management made the situation right by giving me the deposit back Stayed here for 3 years, on move out was charge for carpet even though carpet was super clean, charged for paint, and WORST of all charged to replace the kitchen floor when the damage was a cause of a maintained issue that resulted in the sink flooding while dish washer was running. Just because the floor was starting to peel a few months before it actually flooded, in the corner where I don't walk, they said since I didn't report that months ago (during covid)that I was at fault for the kitchen floor, even though the floor coming up was due to their low quality flooring. Aside from that, reported issues were ignored several times. The grounds have tons of stray cats, and are often dirty. The bathtub needed resealed multiple times due to low quality materials. Seems they are very low quality. Price is really high compared other nicer places. Prepare to lose most of your deposit, they'll try to blame you in anyway possible. read more

I moved to the area just a few weeks ago and have been so pleased with living here at Sycamore Bay. I've been especially impressed with the office staff, very genuine and honest, as well as the maintenance team (Russell is great!) They've been very responsive and from looking at the complex's history here on Yelp it really seems the property management is invested in keeping good tenants around. Most impressive is just yesterday when a piece of furniture I ordered was delivered, the FedEx guy had just left it by the mailboxes downstairs :( a near impossible feat for me to get it up to the 3rd floor! Rose in the office was incredibly understanding when I asked if anyone could help get the package moved upstairs to my apartment since I had zero chance of doing it safely by myself. They made things happen! Since I was at work I don't know who on the team got my package upstairs safely, but THANK YOU!!! As far as anything else to critique about the complex, I'd say that it is right next to some main intersections with train tracks, so the sounds of the train are true. But for me that's not really much of an issue. Another great selling point for this place is that the apartments come with a garage! I am an original resident at Sycamore Bay. It has been fun living here and there are many reasons why I have chosen to stay here so long. Just a few of them: --First and foremost, the individual private garages are beyond compare and cannot be found in any other apartment community in the Bay Area. These garages add to the feel of having a real home and not that sharing-a-carport or sharing-a-parking-lot feel that one gets from other apartment communities. --The apartments have great floor plans and are very spacious. Large full size washer and dryer as well and a huge closet that they reside in with ample shelving make it like a mini-laundry room. You simply won't find this even in new communities, who have a stacked washer/dryer on top of each other in tiny closets to save space. --Location, location, location. The community is situated close to great shopping and dining at the ever burgeoning and growing Pacific Commons Shopping Center and being centrally located right at the cusp of the East and South Bay means you can commute comfortably to either region for work. --Quiet and peaceful. The community is a very serene place to live in. I live in one of the back buildings and the train noise that residents have mentioned in other reviews is barely noticeable after a while. You learn to live with it and the many pluses of the community negates the train noise. I work from home one day a week and get more work done in the quiet here than I do at my office! --The leasing and maintenance staff is also always very helpful and prompt in responding to requests or answering questions. They take great pride in the community and it shows in their responsiveness to residents. I can pop by the office or pick up the phone and the staff always hops on issues/service requests with efficiency and professionalism. I moved three times in two years before settling in Sycamore Bay and it has been one of my best life decisions in making the choice to reside here. I wish I did not rent here. In the beginning, Sycamore Bay was really nice and I thought pretty maintained. I quickly regretted that thought after two months. The grounds are constantly covered in dog feces, stains the walk ways almost daily, some units are very old with pest infestations, the trains are incessant, and if you're not woken by the trains - random cat fights will sure jolt you up at 4am. You'll also see how your neighbors live with the constant overflow of all garbage bins. Who throws away car hoods in the recycle bin? Sycamore Bay residents do! The office staff are kind but come off as extremely inexperienced and unprofessional is today's demanding world. The permit parking system does not work as many non permitted cars still park overnight without consequence, while those that follow the policy have to park a few buildings over from their unit building. There is also no point in the security gate as everyone and anyone still make their way in. Rent at your own risk. Check out other web reviews for more opinions. Yes there are trains. Yes, most people adjust to them. Keep that in mind before moving here. Sleep Machines/White Noise generators can help and ALL the apartments feature quality dual-pane windows that do help to some extent. The windows are great for keeping your place cool/hot when needed as well. With that being said, we've lived here for about a year now. The grounds are always very well kept and the staff are always very responsive. Other than the lease signing process, the facilities are pretty up to date with technology. Every apartment has an alarm system, and when a package is delivered at the front desk, you can opt to receive a push or mail notification. Maintenance requests can be filed online and are typically next business day for non-emergencies. The gym has wifi and device connectivity so you can easily enjoy Netflix/Hulu/Plex/HBO/etc while you work out. The complex is close to a Starbucks/Subway/Diner. When there have been emergencies, the fire and police department response times are truly stellar. Under 3 minutes for fire and under 5 minutes for police. So Far So Good! I just moved to Sycamore Bay Apartments due to a change in my fiancee's employment location. As of this point in time (first week), I've been very pleased with my stay here. The grounds are clean and well kept, and landscaping looks really good. The apartments look very nice on the exterior. On the interior our unit (2b) was not an upgraded one, but all the appliances are clean and in good working order. The apartment looks great and was well thought out. There's a good amount of storage, large kitchen, and a garage unit. My apartment unit had 2 beds and 2 baths. Management staff has been very friendly, accommodating and professional. I'm very impressed with Lili, Joe and Kassie. They've all made me feel very welcome, and have smoothed over any issues I've had in the transition. It's a very pet friendly apartment, so my two dogs are happy. I love the green belt between the apartments to walk my dogs when we can't get to the dog park. I did have a few very minor things with my unit when I moved in, but they were handled very quickly by the maintenance staff. They are super nice by the way. Only negative issue here so far is the sound of the train, so if noises bother you, this is not the spot. I plan to build Plexiglas inserts for my windows to help block the sound more, but I don't expect the noise to be a huge problem for me. I could see how this would be an issue for others though. I haven't been here too long, but as of right now, I'm happy with my move here. I'll keep this review up to date, so if there's nothing new, then I'm still happy with Sycamore Bay. read more

I lived at Sycamore Bay for the past 3 years and I truly enjoyed my stay. I recently had to move for a job and I will miss this place. Of course no apartment complex is perfect, but this is one of the only complexes that has really felt like home to me. I first lived in a one bedroom on the top floor and after starting a family moved to a two bedroom on the first floor. Both apartments were everything I needed. Gated community, good appliances, and personal garage. Community is clean and well kept, I never really used the amenities but they always seemed to be available and in working order. Anytime I needed repairs in the apartment or had an issue/question about a neighbor/policy, the maintenance team and office staff was always there and worked with me to find the best solution even if it took some trial and error. I am now living in a house, but if I ever move to an apartment in the future I hope to have the same experience that I've had at here. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this complex! I lived in two different apartments over the course of 2 years & 2 months. The first one, while not renovated, was still in excellent condition. When I downsized to a 1bd, that one was renovated and it was great to have the newer kitchen. Everyone in the office is friendly and responsive. Maintenance is fantastic and always coordinated with me to make sure I was there when they needed to enter (so I could keep my dogs out of the way). And someone is around 7 days a week attending to landscaping. I never had any issues with pests; if anything needed to be fixed by maintenance, they always did so promptly and made every effort to coordinate with my schedule. When I switched apartments within the complex, they worked with me and even let me break my other lease a month early (since they wanted to renovate it). You have your own private garage, too! It is next to the train tracks, so there is a decent amount of noise from that, but I got used to it. I'm a light sleeper but earplugs helped. Neighbors were sometimes noisy (mostly sounded like my upstairs neighbors were always stomping around) and occasionally dogs who were home alone would bark throughout the day, but all of that is apartment living. I've been gone for a few weeks now, but Javier even just went to check my mail for me (I was expecting a package that may have been mailed to my old address). TL;DR you won't regret it if you decide to live here! I kinda wish I hadn't left. If the train bothers you at night, get earplugs :) read more

I requested for Javier to have our carpet cleaned, which is one of the ameneties for signing another year lease with Sycamore Bay. Thank you Javier for your quick response, the carpet cleaners did an excellent job, all spots removed, carpet looks like new, so refreshing to walk on. Thank you as well, for your concern and quick resolution to other problems in the apartment, one of the reasons why we love to stay here for 11 year and counting. I would be remiss if I don't mention Yesenia for being so accommodating regarding parking issues on our two caregivers. Thank you for your empathy to our dilemma. Both you and Javier are so refreshing to talk to and listen to our issues and concerns. The other staff: Angel, Russell and Rosa are so efficient and professional in dealing with our apartment problems as well, response time is so quick with with a "smile". Turned in the apartment right away! When my fiancé got the walk through of the model of what our apartment was going to be like he thought it be a great fit for our family. First, we were told keys would be handed at 9am, then they changed it to 11. Unfortunately, when he got the walk through the day we got the keys, the lady giving the tour killed a roach in the bathroom. Said, she would sent someone go clean that up and have someone fumigate it tomorrow. The apartment wasn't ready to move in!! We left to go buy things to try fumigating it ourselves. Good thing we did, we followed the boxes instructions and came back 2 hours later. When we got back there were so many roaches. We thought it could of been just that one from the bathroom but NO there were more and different sizes. We left to our house, and came to the conclusion that we couldn't do it. We sent an email to end lease because the apartment wasn't livable and luckily they agreed. read more

This is my first ever review! Previously have only used yelp to find trustworthy businesses and restaurants. This one is long overdue as I told Rene I would do him this solid weeks ago. The maintenance staff as well as the property staff have been nothing short of 5 stars. I really appreciated Rene wearing boot covers when he entered my unit to do work on my sink. My last apartment complex had the maintenance crew step on my comforters to work on a ceiling light. Total night and day between this and my last experience with maintenance. The property staff is also very prompt in their replies and is always very kind. For the unit I would grade them a 4.5 stars. As a laid back guy, I don't notice much and have no gripes. Though my girlfriend did find little things here and there. I have three main downsides. One, My closet wall is not straight (don't think that's a fix that can be done). Two, there is no light fixture in the bedroom. Three, parking is a bit hard for the car not in the garage. These are all relatively minor gripes compared to the numerous positives. I would have given 4.5 stars if I could. For pluses, I do appreciate the extras that you don't get in many 1 bedroom apts: full size washer/dryer, fire place, garage, and a neat little patio. Overall, Sycamore Bay was the right choice when my girlfriend and I moved from Pleasanton to make our work commutes a little better. So thanks everyone at Sycamore Bay! read more

Phenomenal staff, love living here! I've lived here a couple years and just renewed. The staff is professional and kind, especially Valerie and Joe. They are a delight to work with and made my renewal process as seamless as possible. Even when I considered moving units, they were understanding and provided a lot of information. The maintenance staff is prompt and friendly with requests attended to within 1-2 days, depending on urgency. The community is well cared for, clean and secure. Management does a good job communicating notice to residents regarding changes to common areas and planned maintenance. Zero complaints here. It's been 2 days since we move in to a 1b1b in sycamore bay. We are extremely happy with all the staff, they have helped us so much! René came to my apartment to fix a couple of things that were off after they renovated my apartment. He also changed the position of a door handle to my request. We had a great conversation and all the things were fixed and tailored to my needs. The apartment (my unit was just renovated) it's great for 2 people. Open concept kitchen, marble counters and white cabinets. No stainless steel appliances, but they are all new and good. There's enough storage and counter space in the kitchen. The living room is spacious, and so is the bedroom. There are 2 closets in the bedroom which are ok. A small bonus room that we use for study/office and which fits 2 desks! There's also a small office book off the kitchen and the bathroom. We also got new washer and drier. Again, not the best, but good enough and inside your apartment for private use. The only downsides of the apartment is the overall storage. Although there are some additional closets, the bedroom and bathroom storage is not enough. You can store objects in the private indoor garage and in the terrace closet, but it is not convenient for clothes. I would also like to have a clear explanation on how the trash fees work, since they fluctuate depending on the amount of trash per building. I am not sure how it is calculated so an apartment of 2 doesn't pay more than one of 5, for example. So it would be useful to know that or to establish a fix fee. Overall, this is a great community, pretty quiet and safe. We love living here so far! About the train, main concern for many people, we only hear the train once during the night and it's at around 10-12 and then during the morning. The train is actually not as loud as I expected. There is generally more noise from the roads next to the apartment than the train, although it's not noise either. No sirens, music... there's a quiet hours policy from 10pm to 8am and everyone seems to respect it and not to make noise (haven't heard neighbors almost at all). read more

My last review was deleted. I wonder how many others have had their bad reviews removed from yelp to make their ranking higher. Unfriendly staff, dirty common areas, homeless people using hot tub/pool. I have found bars of soap by the hot tub and seen a homeless person using the hot tub for a bath. Lots of crime including cars being broken into, and stolen packages. Train that wakes you up at all hours of the night. Crapy gym. They charge $65 per person (not apartment) for utilities which is much more than they disclosed when we moved in. Despite the high rent and utilities they still found it necessary to remove the car wash area with out notification to residents to "save water". I will not be renewing my lease with Sycamore Bay and would caution against living here. read more

First of all, Rene and team are absolutely amazing. They've helped me countless times through my 3 year tenancy here. Promptly at that. I would recommend Sycamore Bay purely because of Rene and his team. Secondly, the office staff are great. Melanie is a real professional. The team she has has been getting better and better with time. Lastly, as for the annoyances: train, parking, and the pool. The train makes noises around ~2am. I live close to the tracks and it does not bother me. I've largely tuned it out. But there are times it can get very loud! I notice it about once a quarter. The parking is bad, but better than it was 3 years ago. If you are returning home after work around 5pm, do not expect to park near your apartment. You'll always get a spot, but it may be on the other end of the complex. As for the pool, yes the neighborhood kids sneak in to swim. Yes it annoys many of the residents. I don't think management is doing enough to solve this issue outside of "Please call security and they'll come over to deal with it." But if you either don't care about the pool or don't care about neighbors using it, then count it as a non-issue. read more

I don't know where to start from to say how thankful I am for Joe and Valerie. My parents have been living there for about 2 years. The management have been extremely helpful in every situation. They are very patient and quick to help. They are quick to respond emails and quick to answer phone calls. They don't judge or assume anything. So thankful that we found this place. We left an awful living environment and moved in to this beautiful space. They always provide the best costumer service. My one grievance is they did not notify about a package (that ended up being for my graduation in December) that was delivered in November until 9 months later. That was a huge bummer. But other than that, it's been great! read more
