Disappointing. Very small and modest locker room. Robes were not sized to accommodate fuller sized women. Was told to hold towel in front of robe should i be concerned about coverage in public waiting room. Very uncomfortable. Seat cushions in waiting area stained. Awkward tent on patio for sauna. Minimal basic amenities. Thus not equipped for day spa experience. Deep tissue massage was nice but was hoping for more therapeutic intensity. Massage therapist and desk staff polite. However do not feel the cost and overall experience were commensurate. Would not recommend and will not return. read more

Loved my Swedish massage today with Terry. I got there early so I could also enjoy the sauna on the patio. I had the sauna to myself for 15 luxurious minutes...and then got to relax and enjoy a fabulous hour of massage. The spa is Located at the Ranch in South Laguna in an off the beaten path secluded setting that is sourrounded by green rocky hillsides. The eucalyptus trees were so fragrant as I was walking to my car, I didn't want to leave. read more

I really enjoyed my massage at Sycamore spa. They were able to accommodate 4 massages for my family during the same day, which was awesome. The spa has an inside and outside area. Staff were incredibly kind and hospitable, bathrooms and showers were spotless, and the therapists were wonderful! This spa may be quaint but it is perfection! Taylor at the front desk was welcoming and informative. Susan gave me one of the best deep tissue massages I've ever had. She had amazing pressure, checked in with me throughout the treatment and was very pleasant! She's strong and is definitely an experienced practitioner. I enjoyed my time chatting with her a bit and enjoying her therapeutic massage. She offered me a glass of champagne when my treatment was finished and that was such a nice surprise! So disappointed with our experience today at this spa. We had a group of 6 celebrating a milestone birthday for one in the group. My mother had booked all the appointments and went over them with the spa to confirm them several times. We show up to them not being able to find one of the appointments. We were offered a slot later in the afternoon, but defeats the purpose of wanting to do our treatments at the same time. The "spa" had no seating area for our group to even relax together , only two chairs in the waiting area. We were then told there was not enough locker space for other guests and asked if we could consolidate our things. So ridiculous for the prices being charged here. We should have been told they can't accommodate groups, we were literally on top of other guests in the bathroom and there was no place to go. Only good part of the day was when we were at the pool. This really should not be called a "spa", so small and no where to relax. read more

I had a masseuse named Chinonso - the massage was anything but relaxing. If you prefer a masseuse who is aggressive you may like her work however the massage I personally had with her was very unpleasant. She laughed a little during my massage and told me to relax - very unprofessional to say the least. I told her the pressure was too hard yet it never really got any lighter for the remainder of the massage. It felt like she was rushing through the entire massage aggressively to get to the next client. After the massage was over she threw my robe on top of me while I was still lying on the massage bed. (WTF). Perhaps it was a one off experience however I wouldn't recommend this specific masseuse if you are booking here. read more

Not related to the amazing Hotel. Just the staff at Sycamore Spa. We were staying at the Ranch for 2 nights to celebrate my boyfriend'a birthday. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great and we woke up to rain. Having to cancel his tee time I thought it would be a good idea to get a massage. Upon entering a 4-star hotel's spa.. you would expect to be greeted with smiles or at least a hello... yet as I walked up to the spa I was greeted by 2 women, one young and the other older with dark hair--who basically stared at me blankly. Given that my bf isn't a fan of a leg massage I thought I would try to combine a few things, 30 min scalp massage, 30 min shoulder and foot treatment. With a tone, they asked me what they could help me with. I said that I was looking for a focused shoulder and neck massage for my boyfriend today and pulled up their website on my phone. The dark haired older woman, immediately tells me that "those are add on treatments and can't be purchased alone." She then proceeds to tell me that I'm looking at a old menu.. that was on THEIR website. Asking if it's the app, or where did I get it from.. I told her I got it online and the site wasn't even working when I tried to book.. which is why I had to come in. She continues on and on about me mistakenly looking at the wrong menu.. making me feel as if it's my fault. Thereafter she tells me that they do have 30 mins massages that I could tailor to just shoulder and neck.. but "it's $80 and a 22% service charge." .. as if I can't afford it. The ranch is an amazing hotel.. but it's not cheap. If I can fork over $700+ for a hotel room I think I can afford a massage (especially given that I was trying to book 3 different massages!). After telling her "of course" with the prices.. she tells me they don't have availability and are completely booked for the day. Not only was she incredibly rude and condescending but she wasted my time! Just tell me upfront you have no availability.. instead of assuming that I couldn't afford a massage because I asked for a tailored experience. I'm also quite certain she just made up that they were booked.. because when I initially asked for a massage she just asks.. "well what are you looking for." Then when she assumes I'm asking for a cheaper option she completely turns around and says they're fully booked. I called guest services and was so grateful to have a good experience with The Ranch.. or else my trip would have been ruined. If you're going to work in hospitality .. please learn how to speak to customers. All customers should be treated the same and spa hostesses shouldn't make assumptions about guests. This is not the first time I've visited the Ranch, and it won't be last.. but I'll make sure to check out the Monarch or Montage for my spa experience. read more

We stayed at The Ranch for a couple of days off so I booked a wrap at the spa. I figured it would be nice to try something new rather than a Swedish massage. I was disappointed. There were just too many different things they were doing that it never allowed me to fully relax. They had me sit up at one point to put this lotion and hot oil on my spine then had to sit up again to remove it. The hot oil isn't out on your whole body just certain points. Just not relaxing for me. The other thing I didn't like is that it's a forced gratuity of 22%. Gratuity should be based off of the service not a fixed rate. I definitely wouldn't have given that much of a tip for a service I didn't really enjoy. I would not recommend the wrap. Perhaps a massage would be better? read more

I would recommend this spa to everyone. It's nestled in the canyons of Laguna Beach. It's in a beautiful location and prices are decent. The staff was attentive and managed to squeeze us in for a couples massage, even though we called the day of! If you get a chance, I would also stay at the Ranch Hotel, where this spa is located. I have to start by saying that my therapist Danielle was fantastic and everything went really well until I got a call from the spa 15 minutes after leaving the place. The spa receptionist asked me to pay an extra $15 because their rates had increased since my wife had bought me the gift certificate for Father's Day clearly stating a deep dive massage 60m!!!! This conduct really put me off and I still can't believe they would call a customer and ask for more money after selling a product. I also hope they didn't take it away from my tip to the therapist. The Sycamore Spa by Hudson was fantastic from the booking, to the infrared sauna, to the massage, to the Eucalyptus shower in the locker room. Tucked away at The Ranch, the Spa is a peaceful and quiet retreat that I didn't want to leave. I went in with a stiff neck and pain in my shoulder. Kathy, my massage therapist, listened to me and then gave me one of the best massages I've ever had. Her intuitive hands and fluid movements had me relaxing, yet she also worked the muscles in my rotator cuff, neck and arms until I felt them loosening. After the massage, I wasn't rushed away, but was free to sit in the courtyard in my fluffy robe with my lemon water. The locker room is immaculately clean with added touches like lotion, hair dryer and mouthwash available. The entire experience was luxurious, relaxing, warm and inviting. I received a deep dive massage by Danielle and she did an amazing job. I needed some extra attention on my back/hamstrings and she really focused on those areas and was still able to give me a full body massage. I would say one of the best massages I have gotten. I was slightly disappointed that there was no jacuzzi (except into the main hotel pool area where kids were occupying it) but the facility was clean and quiet and very relaxing. My Husband and I went to the Sycamore spa last weekend and had an amazing experience. I was at the Spa right after Britannia M (she gave them a poor review??) I know the spa was fully booked, I called the day before and tried to get an additional person in. The girls at the front desk Bre and Sarah was so nice and sweet...After my massage I asked them to help me find out about booking a corporate event for my company at the Ranch...Had an email within the hour outlining the program..again amazing to know that someone heard you and actually made an effort to help. So back to the good part my husband and I had a 90 min. couples massage with Alex and TJ as our masseuses we were both so happy and relaxed. We met a very nice couple in the waiting room from San Diego they too...were so happy with their experience The views from the spa are breathtaking. This is a beautiful small spa located on the property of the Ranch in Laguna Beach. I had the "deep sleep" treatment where the therapist "brushes" hot oil on the body, the music playing in the room has the rhythm of a heartbeat, and its very tranquil. Note: This is not a standard massage.... I wasn't sure what to expect from this treatment but I must say it was VERY relaxing. It's a treatment you'll enjoy when you need to chill / calm down, and relax. It was a perfect way to end a stressful day, coupled with the sauna at the end, and then home for a good night of sleep. I have a pretty stressful career so when I take time for myself I need to take advantage of that time. One modification I requested was to increase the treatment time from 30min to 60min (this is not advertised on their website). When I get massages I always do 80 min because it takes a bit to decompress and relax, even a 60 minute massage goes by too quick for me. This was the reason for requesting to double the time on the deep sleep treatment. (Note to staff: I don't think the experience would have been the same in 30 minutes, would have seemed too rushed!) And, I must say TJ was amazing and so accommodating! I have seen her in the past for 80 minute massages and she truly is one of the best! As a side note, if you are looking for an experienced massage therapist, she is a perfect choice! She knows muscular structure and will take the time to educate you on self-care post massage, work through injuries or any requests to focus on a particular muscle / area. I was never a fan of deep-tissue until I found her two years ago, she helped me understand deep tissue has many more benefits than a standard Swedish massage and she was right! read more

This was everything I needed and more!! I'm a local and I really needed a last minute massage and a day away. I was able to book a massage the same day and I booked a foot soak for before my service. I was greeted by the front desk person she was friendly and very accommodating. I sat and had the most lovely foot soak before my massage which I highly recommend, it definitely felt wonderful and relaxed me. I requested a 60 minute relaxation massage which was okay (but I'm a massage therapist with 20+ years so it's really hard to impress me) I did really like that she used hot towels and a warmed neck rest it really added to the experience. After my service I went and sat out at the pool, there was only a handful of people so I had a whole row of chairs to myself. I loved the music that was playing by the pool. I wish I had arrived earlier because it was very hard to leave. Even the valet was friendly we had a nice conversation when he brought me my car. HUGE disappointment and the Biggest waste of $570 I have ever spent. My daughter and I were so excited about visiting Sycamore. We live close by so we were hoping to make it a regular spot for R&R. The facilities have no sauna, no jacuzzi, no steam, no lounging room...nothing but one shower...one shower! The prices were astronomical, on a par with the best 5 star spas in the world. Worst of all, my massage therapist was 100% clueless and hurt me terribly. I kept telling him to stop pressing on my body, my back and my ribs and when he "worked on" my neck, I had to tell him to stop as he was grabbing it and squeezing so hard that I knew I would have negative repercussions. I also kept telling him that he was massaging my bones instead of my muscles. It was dreadful and I should've just left the room...my fault on that account. Yesterday, the day after my treatment, I was in utter agony, doing stretches and yoga and walking, desperate for relief as my upper back was, and remains, completely out of alignment (no, never had a back problem in my life) and my neck was killing me with stiffness and lack of mobility. I am still miserable today. How can this spa charge ridiculously extravagant prices when they do not even vet their therapists properly? And when they have such minimal space or facilities in which to relax? My daughter liked her treatment but she didn't love it. Save your money and go somewhere great and have 3 treatments for the price of one at Sycamore. I don't know who posted the photos below but as you can see, two of them are of the same area in the reception, just showing products and one is the area outside of the spa.
