This was my first time into the spa. Everything was amazing. Luckily, my bestie and I had the whole place to ourselves. The ladies' locker room had everything you needed, and the shower was great. Found this little hidden gem while in Laguna beach! It's a pretty quaint boutique day spa. The staff are very friendly. I called for a massage. They had availability within the hour for a 50 minute custom massage. I was able to book the appointment over the phone. You have access to the spa all day. Parking is valet only and $8 with validation for 2 hours. Pretty steep but you are paying for convenience. They have everything you need to relax and pamper yourself. The women's lounge has a jacuzzi and outdoor patio area and also a steam room and showers with amenities to get ready. The co-Ed lounge is really relaxing with a nice fireplace and an outdoor patio area as well. As far as the massage I had Jen as my massage therapist and she was wonderful! She worked on my knots and made sure I was comfortable with the pressure. Such a great experience!! read more

Pretty enjoyable experience here, but not rave worthy. The spa lounge area was very nice, but very small. We were lucky that it wasn't busy and we could enjoy ourselves outside. One bonus is that it was a co-ed lounge we could enjoy with our husbands. We were also able to enjoy our dessert here from the splashes restaurant. Snacks were good but minimal selection. The area in which to get ready after the spa treatment was not impressive - limited sinks and no changing room. No sauna either. I received a massage from a woman with great technique but she was not very friendly to me. It felt like my appointment was an inconvenience to her. Went for a 50 minute massage w/enhancement using Travelzoo voucher for my friend's birthday. Absolutely loved the place and all the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The spa area itself was clean and well stocked with everything you could need, towels, shampoo, conditioner, blow dryer, lotion, deodorant. There were lockers for your things and a nice robe. There was a sitting area to relax before and after the massage with tea, water and light snacks. My massage therapist, Annette, was incredible. They sent me an email confirmation the same day I made the reservation and then, they left me a voicemail the day before as a reminder of my appointment. I thought everything was all set. On the day of the reservation, we tried to check in but could not. The receptionist told us that they could not find the reservation and they had no staff to accommodate us. My sister and I had the chance to have brunch at their restaurant Splashes and were seated at the bar area which had breathtaking views of the ocean. The food and coffee was delicious! Definitely recommend making a reservation. The spa itself is quite small, with a small jacuzzi and sauna and two showers and one bathroom. So it can have some wait times if you or others have a larger party in your group. My massage was wonderful! I was however disappointed in my manicure and pedicure. I was booked at the end of the day and my manicurist was late to my appointment, cutting into my time. The mani/pedi was done quick and for the price, you expect quality. If you go, make sure and get the gel, I do not recommend getting a regular polish because the quality of it was poor and started coming off the next day, even on my toes which in all the years I've been doing my nails, has never happened only after the next day. read more

A lovely little spa by the sea. While staying at Surf and Sand (OMG, best hotel EVER) my girlfriends and I booked a few spa services. The facilities are small, but everything you need is there. The rooms are throughout the property, starting with the check in desk and boutique off of the North Courtyard. We were escorted to the main area where we were shown the woman's lounge. A alcove of lockers, a small steam room, two sinks with beauty supplies and a couple showers makes up the layout. If there were 6 women at one time it'd be crowded. The doors opened to a private jacuzzi and outdoor sunning area. The relaxation area is well appointed with water and hot tea. Both indoor and outdoor places to get cozy. I had a steam, a shower and then waited for my pedicure with my feet up. I was fetched and taken out through the courtyards again to a small room where nail services were provided. My nail artist chatted pleasantly and painted my toes a sexy dark mauve. My chair gave me a massage and I sipped on mint tea. Glorious. One of my pals had a mommy to be massage that she said was one of the best she's received and my other friend has her nails done with a cool polish that dried within 5 minutes (fast enough so she could get another steam in afterwards). I do think the menu overall is a little overpriced for what it is after being in the facilities - but I had a nice time and the service I was given was lovely. read more

My husband and I decided to stay at Surf&Sand for a weekend getaway and got massages at Aquaterra Spa during our stay. My masseuse was Jordie, and she was incredible! She gave me a deep tissue massage and really focused on any and all bumps and knots she found. She was very professional and respectful, and we managed to get a few laughs in during the session too. She was very kind and personable, and I would most certainly come back again, specifically requesting her. During our session, my gold necklace, a family heirloom, got in the way so we removed it. Unfortunately, I completely forgot about the necklace and left the room without it. Jordie came after me to make sure I got my necklace back. I was very moved and had the best experience ever. We have stayed and dined at this resort multiple times and always had a fabulous experience. However, the customer service at Spa Aquaterra was quite a disappointment. Staff was unwelcoming and possibly just not happy with their job. When I asked for an extra key to the spa, the gal just about rolled her eyes at me. While the nail technician was good, the service is done out in a shed that is closed in, stuffy with no view. The spa locker and sink area is extremely small with one toilet. When you have a spa service at any resort, you are welcome to enjoy their amenities for the day. Our services were at 1p and we checked out at 5p. The spa closed at 8p. When we approached the counter to check out at 5p (Spa closed at 8p) a staff member commented "We were wondering when you were going to come back." How rude. How about "How was your day? Did you enjoy yourselves?" The experience at other Spa resorts such as MONARCH AND MONTAGE are far superior with extremely kind and caring customer service. They truly offer a pampering experience that brings you JOY. From the greeting to the facilities for a comparable price. We shared our experience with 2 managers because the first one was dismissive to our feedback. Here is a tip to management: When a customer shares feedback below resort expectations, how about offering a nice gesture such as comp'd Valet or even a couple coffees? Instead we got "Okay thanks for letting me know and I will talk to the spa management." McDonalds has better customer service. The following day I called another manager (Andrew) who was apologetic and said he would discuss with the Spa Director and get back with me with some kind of resolution. I feel we only got half the value of our spa experience. If the staff at the spa were kind and welcoming, I wouldn't leave a yelp review mentioning the outdated and small facilities. I was visiting from AZ and decided I needed some mommy recharge spa time. It had been forever since I took the time to give myself a spa day since I just had a baby six months ago. I scheduled a massage and a facial. When I arrived, the front desk attendant greeted us and gave a quick tour of the facility. It's clean and cute but not particularly luxurious. There's a little jacuzzi and steam room and two showers. First I got my facial. The esthetician was very warm and friendly. I had about an hour in between my appointments so I decided to soak in the jacuzzi and shower before my massage. When I went to use the shower, I couldn't figure out how to get it to work. There were two different knobs and three different shower heads and nothing was labeled. Or if it was, I couldn't see it without my glasses. Anyway, I couldn't get the hot water to work. After about five minutes of trying, I went to try to find the attendant to ask for help. There was no one to be found. So I used my cell phone to call the front desk and asked if they could send someone down to help. An employee came in and even she couldn't figure it out! So frustrating and stressful. Not what I want to spend my time worrying about. Especially when I'm paying top dollar to relax. The girl said she would have to get maintenance to come figure it out. I decided to just rinse off in the dribble of warm water I was able to get. When I was done, the girl had come back in and said maintenance was just outside and they'd come in and take a look. No thank you! I was in a robe! Anyway, I continued on to have a lovely massage. The therapist Brielle, was amazing. She took her time and put a lot of effort into giving me one of the best massages ever. She's amazing! When I went to check out the attendant was unfriendly and didn't even apologize to me about the embarrassing, stressful shower event. I thought she would at least acknowledge it. But she didn't. She actually completely ignored me while I looked at the offerings of the gift shop. The spa uses my preferred line of skin care for their treatments, Eminence. It's a lovely line. I really wanted the esthetician's advice on which products I should consider purchasing and asked the attendant if there was any way I could find out which particular products she used on me for my facial and she just said No, or I don't know or something lame like that. No attempt to help me. I was excited to purchase some new products but wanted to make sure I bought some that would work with my skin type. Usually the esthetician gives a little card to the spa attendant and then you can purchase those products in the gift shop. I was bummed. So overall my experience was okay. The therapists were absolutely lovely but the rest of the experience was lacking. I spent over 400$ for a few hours to relax. I expected a little more pampering. read more

So I have stayed at the Surf and Sand several times over the last few years, and every time I go, I'm usually lucky enough to get a facial, massage, manicure, pedicure, etc. I will say, I have only done the manicure and pedicure once before, and would not be likely to do so again because although the woman doing my nails was quite nice, I did not think she did a very good job. Quality was equivalent to one of the lower end nail salons in Westminster, and the price was 3 times as much. The nail "salon" itself is also kind of odd, basically it is just a large broom closet that can only accommodate 2 clients at one time. Overall, not impressed. At all. However, the Aquaterra Spa itself is amazing, and it is long past time for me to write a review for them. As far as services with the spa itself go, it is 5 stars all the way! I wish I could remember the names of the people who I have had massages with, but it's been a few years. I do remember I enjoyed the massages/treatments and that they were very accommodating as to how you prefer the massage strength, scents, etc. and were very skilled. I like a hard massage, so much so that it almost hurts (that hurts so good feeling) and they were able to make me very happy! In addition, the Spa itself is just lovely. Very small, but has everything you could want. Outdoor jacuzzi, two lounge areas, steam room, showers, and lockers. Everything is very casual/beachy upscale and goes towards creating a very serene atmosphere. The main reason why I finally got inspired to write a review was the facial I had there this last weekend. Carol was the esthetician, and she is just great. Very sweet, knowledgeable, and while the facial was very relaxing, my skin is lightly peeling today, which was kind of a nice surprise. (I say a nice surprise because after slathering on moisturizer for a few days, a light peel just goes to even out my skin tone and help with my pores). In addition, Carol recommended a few skincare products they sell in the salon gift shop but did not pressure me to purchase anything...so of course I did!! Skin is looking great, very refreshed, and the overall experience, which included lunch at Splashes (the hotel beachfront restaurant) was great. The staff at the hotel and spa, from the valets to the front counter girls, as well are incredibly sweet and helpful, which just makes for an even more pleasant experience. My boyfriend recently took me to Aquaterra for an 80 min couples deep tissue massage and I absolutely loved it! A deep tissue or Swedish massage upgrade is $15 extra, but it is definitely worth it. The masseuses did a great job customizing our experience (my masseuse was Trish and my boyfriend had Annette)--they started off our session by asking us which areas we needed extra pampering and focused on those areas really well. The surroundings were what made the experience extra special--the massage room had a large window overlooking the beach below! I highly recommend booking your appointment so that it ends around sunset--the view is absolutely breathtaking. The spa closes at 8 PM, so we were able to stay for 2 hours after our massages to enjoy the resort's jacuzzi and the spa's steam showers and sauna. It's really pleasant rolling up to the Surf & Sand on one of the nicer afternoons we've had for a while- stark ocean views peeking at you in between buildings as you make your way down the walkway to Aquaterra. I came an hour early to read a book in the outdoor hot tub, rinse off and get ready for my 50-minute massage. Aquaterra is small, but accommodating - lots of personal care goodies, teas and healthy snacks. My massage was with Katharina - she was very nice and asked questions pertaining to my needs and comfort, pretty standard massage stuff. But dammit, I received some of the friendliest customer service ever here: from the valet, to the spa staff, to the front desk attendant who validated my parking. Perhaps I was just aglow with post-rubdown joy, but my massage and spa time at Aquaterra was a great experience. read more

Just got back from a few days at the Surf and Sand, which was amazing. Tried out the spa and LOVED it! It was recently updated so it was beautiful inside and really cozy. It's not a huge spa but has everything you need and is really relaxing. I had two treatments, both with Shaun (who is the best!). I started with the coffee macadamia nut scrub with a vichy shower and followed with an 80 minute massage. I get massages twice a month and Shaun was one of the top 3 therapists I've ever had - totally beats other high-end hotel spas like Bacara and La Costa. If I lived in Laguna, I would seriously do this once a week because it was heavenly. Can't wait to come back! read more

I did book with Lauren this time, and it completely changed my view of this place. She was amazing, one of the best massages I have ever received. She knows deep tissue! It was my birthday, so I treated myself to their great summer special: massage and lunch $135. You really can't beat this price. A massage at one of the luxury hotels just down PCH will cost you about $180 and up. This is a beautiful hotel right on the sand. It's warm and inviting with a good staff. I always try and get the most out of my spa days, so I go to the fitness facilities first and work out, then head over to the spa. It's a small spa with showers, lockers, vanity and wet steam all in a very small women's locker area. The jacuzzi is just outside of the women's locker room and has a couple chairs around for taking in the ocean breeze. They also have a nice but small quiet area where you wait for your treatment. If you opt for a massage, I highly recommend Sean, although I've never had a bad treatment there. On to lunch. The restaurant is great and sits right above the sand. You can get indoor or outdoor seating. With the Summer special deal, you get three courses! All the food is good, although the new chef took away my favorite lobster club sandwich. *sigh* All-in-all, an incredibly good deal and a wonderful place. read more

The waiting are was extremely lit, all white but that's their decor theme I guess. I wish it had more chairs where you could put your feet up and relax but there was just a small white couch. Then again maybe the point is that they don't keep you waiting long so there is no need to relax inside. I really loved the massage room. It was warm and relaxing. Loved the scrub and the bubble bath they prepared for us. The massage therapists were great although we were a bit rushed out of the room after our session was over. Visited the spa today, FINALLY using the "Splunches" gift card I received almost a year ago. Valet Only and when asked where I go for the spa I was not given the best direction. Ended up going directly into the spa area and found myself located where the massage rooms are. Interesting that there was no oversight into the spa area. Anyway, I eventually found out where I needed to be and was given a tour of the facility. A little smaller than I expected but I am not one to spend the ENTIRE day at the spa so it was sufficient. I did a 50-min Swedish massage with Brielle. I get massages on average once a month for the past five years and my massage with Brielle was in the Top 3 no doubt. BEST massage ever! Man did my body need it and it was a "hurt so good" feeling. Don't let this scare you! Brielle was receptive to feedback on pressure and answered some of the questions I had as to why areas were more sensitive than others. Very knowledgable and I came out feeling better than ever! Five stars! Thank you Brielle! I followed my massage with the sauna, jacuzzi and lounging on the outdoor patio. My overall recommendations would be to either have the valet staff know where the spa check-in is or some oversight to the spa area, as well as upgrading the robes. When I came to this spa couple years ago I fell in love with this spa, even though there was an issue with the shower head, it fell apart, but I had a great relaxing massage. The second time I came with my husband for a couples massage and it was ok, the therapist didn't listen to my concerns and pulled on my back too rough causing it to hurt for the rest of the day. This time I came with my best friend for her birthday. I got the lavender dreams for both of us, and we were both looking forward to the warm beach stones, but both of our therapists just skipped it. I also was taken 5 minutes later than my friend and she came out 5 minutes later than me, so I was shortened my time. My friend said her therapist managed to pull the sheets more than she'd liked, making her very well visible, it made her feel very uncomfortable. Later on in the shower, I was trying to get the body wash out, the pump wasn't working. I tried to unscrew it from the bottom as my last resort, and cut my thumb pretty deep. I don't think I'll be back to this place. False advertising on the menu! Not cool! read more

I went for a couples massage with my husband to celebrate our anniversary. During the pre-service period when we were invited to use the spa facilities, we were both disappointed to find some key amenities did not work properly (in my case the jacuzzi; for him it was the steam bath). The massage itself was ok, although it was shorter than advertised and the execution could have been better (there were more interruptions than I am used to - to get towels, the eye cover fell off many times). The biggest disappointment was that there was no cleaning service in the locker/ dressing area, so that after our 2 hour service the same used cups, qtips, etc. that had been left on the counter by a previous guest were still there. Amazing experience! My husband and I stayed at Surf and Sand for a few days over the holidays. My Christmas gift was an 80 min Prenatal massage. Mikki, my masseuse, was absolutely amazing. I'm 31 weeks along and she made me feel so comfortable and relaxed. She has 20+ years specializing in prenatal work. This is extremely important. She knew the right areas to work and knew how to safely perform an awesome prenatal massage. I wish I lived closer to go back again. Mikki was so great to work with. If you need a prenatal massage or massage in general, I would definitely recommend Mikki to you. The spa experience as a whole was very positive. The facility is very clean and serene. Very nice spa in a pretty setting. I've always liked the Surf and Sand hotel for dinner and drinks, and now I can add their spa to the list when I need some beauty treatments! I had the vitamin facial and the hot stone pedicure. They were both good, but I get regular facials from my dermatologist, and I have yet to find a spa who can give me a facial on the same level. Fabulous experience this past weekend for my bachelorette spa day. I wanted to have a spa/beach day for my bachelorette and Surf and Sand's Aquaterra more than delivered. We had about 10 ladies with spa appointments throughout the day. The hotel's staff at the beach/pool set us up with chairs on the beach and wait staff so we could chill/luncu at the beach before and after our services at the spa. The spa staff were fabulous (Beth was great for massage!) and accommodating. All my friends raved about their services, not to mention the location and spa itself. Very cute and beachy indeed. Went for a couples massage to celebrate our anniversary. Had a great experience booking--I requested two female masseuses as well as champagne and two chocolate covered strawberries to get us a little relaxed before the massage. We were running late due to horrific traffic and they nicely accommodated us by moving our massage back by 30 minutes. We arrived with no time to spare and weren't able to have the strawberries and champagne, though we were told they would be waiting for us after our massage. We quickly changed into our robes and were introduced to Lauren and James...even though I specifically requested two females. When I said that, the staff did not apologize, just insisted that James was very nice and very experienced. I went with it because we were so late and I wanted to enjoy the day with my husband, but I didn't exactly enjoy the massage. Nothing against James (he was nice) but I wasn't in the mindset to have a dude massage me... The room was small, the massage beds are not even side by side and the view from the window is covered by a weird chain-link screen. Anyway, after the massage, our champagne was not waiting for us and the small outdoor area of the coed lounge was occupied by a group of women so we just decided to take showers and get ready for our lunch reservations at Splashes. The the staff came to the women's lounge as I was just getting out of the shower with the champagne and strawberries. When I asked her to take it back since we were on our way to lunch and I expected the champagne to be there after our massages and it was not, she went to check with manager. She came back and said no, they could not send it back but she did put it in plastic cups and to-go containers. I was kind of pissed, especially when she handed me the bill and it was $60 for tiny glasses of champagne and dour (not two) chocolate strawberries. I was going to speak to the manager myself but my husband just said to drop it and enjoy it. Bottom line is if you expect staff to respect your requests and preferences, especially when you are paying top-dollar, go elsewhere. read more

I had an amazing day here..I did the Splunches special along with a facial. First let me say the property is breath-taking beautiful I was immediately relaxed upon walking on the property its a stones through from the beach. My lunch was the best the food was surprisingly GREAT!!! The spa itself was a little small for my expectations as I could hear people talking and road traffic during my facial. I was super happy that didn't happen during my massage. I must say however that did not detour my opinion of this place. I had an incredible 90 minute massage with Annette yesterday! She was strong and worked the deep knots out, but also combined it with a completely relaxing massage. It was heaven! The spa itself is beautiful and comfortable. There was a nice steam room and outdoor jacuzzi that I relaxed in after the massage. Then spent a gorgeous day and night at the Surf and Sand and had an excellent dinner at Splashes, right at sunset. read more
