We just had drapes installed Friday, and we highly recommend working with Steve and his team. We looked into several options, and by far Steve's recommendations and pricing were the best for the level of customization and quality his company provides. He offered a completely custom, high-end look, with expert installation for a fair price. Steve helped us narrow down the many fabric options - we purchased a linen-looking, oatmeal-colored, performance fabric with a lining to block sun and heat, double pinch-pleated to hang from modern black traverse rods mounted close to the ceilings. The drapes and hardware came in very quickly, and they were exactly as hoped. The measurements were perfect, including small adjustments made due to our floors not being totally even. The installer was a lovely person who took great care to install these very wide one-piece drapery rods, and neatly attach the drapes to them, and the drapes glide very smoothly on the track. It was so helpful to hire a local business who really cares about each client and can provide true customization. Steve made several visits to our home before we ordered, and he communicated well throughout the process and checked in with us after to make sure we are happy. And we are very happy as the drapes look gorgeous, our home looks so much nicer, and we finally can block the hot sun through the glass windows. After getting 7 or so estimates for new window treatments and not finding what we wanted, we started looking on Yelp to see who else we could call. The issues we were having were 3-fold: 1. finding the right solution in terms of fabric, color, and installation 2. finding the right price point (we did not want the cheapest, nor the most expensive, and we found that prices varied widely per vendor) 3. finding a company who would understand our needs and follow-up in a timely manner. (most companies did not follow up at all, or if they did, they were pushy about buying their product.) We found that Steve at Sylvan's provided us with everything we wanted: he followed up, he had the product and solution we were looking for, and his price was reasonable. Even though it was during the Holiday Season, he did a quick turn-around for us and we had our shades hung within a short period of time. One of the shades appeared to have a problem, so Steve had the shade remade and installed quickly. He followed up by phone afterward to make sure we were happy with the end result, which we definitely were and still are! Ordered shutters form this company. The initial sales person who came to my home was late. He did call to let me know he was going to be late. However, I asked him to reschedule as I had things to do. He showed up anyway. Another person came out to measure and put together a proposal. Made it seem like I was inconveniencing him. We have been customers of Sylvan's Draperies for over 25 years! The shades draperies and blinds that they have installed for us have been long-lasting and very reasonably priced. Steve , the owner of this family business, has been more like a friend than a merchant and we have come to really appreciate the expertise and easy manner of Jesse (the installer) as well. I recently did a major remodel and used an interior designer who insisted that I use her contact for my new window blinds. I agreed. The service was terrible, and it took them several months to complete our order and install the blinds. The installation was not done properly and our window molding was damaged in the process. In less than two years, the cellular shades installed by this other company (TriStar) no longer functioned properly. Although the blinds were still under warranty, TriStar refused to honor their responsibilities or even return our calls. I went to good old Sylvan's with my tale of woe, expecting to order brand new blinds from them and throw these (worth over $600) in the trash. To my surprise and delight, Lynn, the office manager, offered to take on the responsibility of contacting Graber and getting the problem fixed. In less than a week after I dropped off the defective shades at Sylvan's, Lynn called me to say a brand new set of replacement shades was waiting for pick up at their store. We needed to have some privacy shades to be added to our existing blinds. We were debating whether to replace our blinds with double shades or just try to add a second shade behind our existing blinds. Steve came out and looked at our window coverings and said our blinds were in very good shape and that we could just move our existing blinds forward a little and then put the privacy shades behind so they would function as double shades (without the cost of buying new double shades). The install was quick and smooth and they made a couple adjustments to make sure the new blind didn't hit our window lever. The day after the install I got a very nice call from Steve to make sure the installation had gone smoothly and that we were happy with our shades. Their price was really good compared to the other bid we received, and they were very honest about what would be the most cost effective and functional solution. They came out and had it repaired in a timely manner. In addition, the person who hung the blind put little ball stoppers on all the blinds so that we would not be able to pull them up too far. We finally contacted Sylvan's and Phillip's after being referred by 2 friends. We were tired of living with the ugly window coverings but really couldn't afford anything too terribly pricey. Steve came out with a car load of samples and spent quite a bit of time explaining all the pros and cons of the products. Knowing my budget was small he never tried to up sell me or make me feel that I wasn't as important as his clients with unlimited funds for decorating. On the contrary, he listened to our wants and needs and gave us some great choices. The blinds we chose are absolutely perfect and make the house look so much better! A few years later I used them again for my studio in downtown Santa Monica. The ceilings are 18 feet and I wanted a rich luxurious drape but really wasn't sure if that would work. Again, Steve came out and immediately knew what would look best. Out of curiosity I shopped around to see if I could beat his price. No one could even come close. Since we were under the gun with our opening date and still working on the construction end of the project, S & P were kind of just on standby for installation. I bought four drapes from them. They came to measure and install the first drapes and realized they needed to readjust the drapes. Took the drapes I had already paid for and never returned to install them. I got sick and did not follow up either. After two years, I called them inquiring about my drapes and they don't even have them anymore. At this point I don't even care about the drapes I paid for but just to rehiring them. Unfortunately, they did not care to provide any services nor did they offer to mend for the drapes they stole from me. "Good Luck to you" was the only kind words I heard. I've own two businesses for 15 years and when I get returning clients like this, my first approach is to understand the history, then try to complete the service and perhaps even request for additional payments since there has been a gap in time. After spending hours with two other companies, only to wind up confused & indecisive, I called Sylvan's & Phillips. Steve is very personable, and won my confidence with his suggestions on color and light filtering for the bedroom and kitchen. His prices were astonishingly low, and whereas the other consultants were quoting 6-8 weeks to deliver, he said 2 weeks and delivered ahead of that. I am so grateful to him for the quick turnaround because Covid shutdowns started right after that, so we would have waited six months before we would feel safe letting anyone inside.
