Cleaning is meant to be cathartic, not stressful. Especially on a weekend morning. But Symphony seemed to confirm the stereotype of cleaning "firms"--overworked cleaners managed by aggressive dispatchers. Or perhaps I should call them conductors in this case, since Symphony's packages are fashionably named after Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and Vivaldi . I signed up for the ~$150 first-time user package which is not time-bound--they are meant to work until the job is done. The cleaning maid arrived late, was profusely apologetic and warned me that she would have to leave in three hours. The objective function all along was to get the job done in three hours, not the quality or completeness of the cleaning. She worked furiously for the duration of the three hours, while reminding me with annoying regularity that she is the best they have, and always leaves her customers happy. Three hours and $150 later, I am left with window sills and sections of the floor that are visibly dusty, walls that were left untouched, blinds that were not cleaned, and several spots that a good cleaner with sufficient time and attention to detail would not miss. I am glad the symphony ended. Now if you will excuse me, I have a cleaning job to finish as I sob to the second movement in Beethoven's seventh symphony. read more

I purchased a living social deal, and was a bit apprehensive as I've never hired someone to clean for me before. However, running around for the holidays makes for a crazy schedule, and I couldn't have been more pleased with the result! I had the sweetest woman come for about 2 hours, and she tried her best to finish my studio in that time. She was do sweet. Some people choose to stay in their apt while it's cleaned, and others choose not to be there. I was in and out, and it worked out just fine. I would definitely do this again! I am signing up here just to let you all know how awesome these folks are. My sister was coming to visit from CA, and I needed to get someone fast and cheap. I picked them because they were the cheapest around and they were available quick, but Symphony Maids exceeded my expectations. First, I had a problem with billing, my own fault, and they were patient and very helpful on the phone. I scheduled a cleaning for this past Wednesday afternoon. I was embarrassed because it was the hottest day of the year so far, and my air conditioner was broken. On top of that, I was on a conference call for work when she showed up. I quickly told her what I needed cleaned, and she quietly got straight to work. She was friendly and uncomplaining, and did an excellent job cleaning my bathroom, kitchen, and a little more in the three hours she was here. I gave her a good tip, and it was money well spent. Right after she left, I called Symphony Maids to express my gratitude, and they were very pleasant on the phone again. Yesterday, I got a little thank you note in the mail, with a loyalty card (if you use them 9 times, the 10th is free). This is a small company that clearly takes pride in their work and their employees, and makes every effort to earn their customers' loyalty. These guys are amazing! If you're looking to hire someone for hassle free, cost effective and great cleaning, pick them. Here's my story: I called Symphony maids for a move-in clean up and they spoke very nicely over the phone and quickly appointed someone to show up the next day. Unfortunately, I had to reschedule my appointment and they were very accommodating about it. They instantly pushed me to the next slot (without charging a cancellation fee in my case) and sent Stephanie for the clean up. Stephanie was wonderful! She arrived on time and spent a long time cleaning every nook and corner extremely well. She was sweet and well-spoken and did not come in my way at all. They also sent someone to check and see if everything was done nicely. I mean, who does that? Seriously? They really care. Finally, they left a personalized card for me, with a little citrus-mint tea bag and a fortune cookie. Which was such a sweet way to remind me of them. Again, now who would do that? I'll end by saying that Symphony maids is thorough, professional with quality service at reasonable rates. I'm definitely calling them back! read more

Lovely lady! Just not detailed. All had appeared great in my 1 bedroom apt, I even tipped her $12, based on the full price, or so I'd thought, of $96 not the $37 Groupon price. After she left, I found some irritating areas that were not touched. Though most of my bathroom tiles were cleaned there were obvious areas that were not, soap dishes not rinsed, and fingerprints on vanity doors still there. The kitchen sinks were clean yet a grimy drain stopper was left untouched. I had to ask how she was reaching the tops of furniture to dust; she then asked where the stepladder was. Then in a last walk through I asked her if both bedroom blinds were dusted and she cheerfully rushed to do them then. I did the living room after she left. For $37, a 4 star rating and a potentially 5 star in time, but not for $120 on a regular basis ($96 + the $24 that later appeared on my credit card). I expected more from a service but I am going back to my $60 cleaning lady who I now know does 5 stars. Glad I checked it out - I had always been curious about these services. read more

I bought the Living Social deal - $44 for two hours of cleaning. This was my first time hiring a cleaning service for my apartment, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Despite the guidelines saying 2 hours for a studio and 3 hours for a one bedroom, I thought 2 hours would be enough for my 1 bedroom, given that it's not huge and I keep it in pretty good shape (I'm good about keeping it tidy, just not so good with the deep cleaning). This ended up being a miscalculation on my part, so pay attention to their hour/size guidelines. The maid arrived right on time, made some polite and well-spoken small talk to make me feel comfortable, and then immediately started work, pulling supply after supply out of her way-bigger-than-it-looked bag of supplies. She spent the first hour cleaning the kitchen and the second doing the bathroom. At first I was a little bummed that she hadn't had time for the living room/bedroom (though the kitchen/bathroom were my primary concerns - just dust in the other two), but then after she left and the floors dried, I walked into the kitchen and was amazed. My kitchen has NEVER sparkled so cleanly, even when I first moved in! My white tile floor has been kind of an off-white gray from the day I moved in (when presumably the building had deep cleaned it), so despite the unappealing shade, I just assumed it couldn't get any cleaner. Wrong - it is WHITE white and shining! Meanwhile, we had what I thought was a permanent tile stain on the corner of the bathtub (I had scrubbed it myself in the past with no luck at removing it)... but that's gone too! My apartment smells amazingly fresh and clean throughout and it has totally blissed me out. My only regret is that I didn't watch to see how on earth she was able to get the floor so clean so I can replicate it myself. Guess I'll just have to call Symphony again :) Highly recommended! read more
