I want to like Symposium more, because they make some really interesting lattes, like the delicious lavender latte! However, this location normally feels crowded and loud. The last time we went, we sat upstairs in one of the small rooms to get some work/studying done, there were two middle aged women talking about making homemade dog food out of raw meat, how much they hate walmart, and behavioral issues they are having with their middle school aged kids.... not that they shouldn't be allowed to talk about whatever they want in a coffee shop... but if you are looking for a quiet study spot, this isn't it. read more

This coffee shop is all the rage in Sherwood but after trying it several times with my daughter all I have been is disappointed. The giant cookies and scones are yummy. The coffee I have tried is decent but they really really miss the mark when it comes to service. Long wait times on what seems like a simple order, and very cold disconnected staff. The staff doesn't seem to work together very well and tend to be annoyed when you come in. I would only come back if someone I was with insisted on it. read more

A fun place, but the aching in your wallet tarnishes the experience. One bad interaction: I bought a $19 bag of beans (Injerto Bourbon) that ended up having zero flavor. This place is great its in an old restored house so it smells like and old house but in a good way and has a very historic vibe. Wood floors and something you wouldnt expect in an expanding suburb. The coffee is really good,the sandwiches are pretty ok, the desert is very good well worth cheating on your diet for. The staff and the locals are all very cool. Its a very peaceful place to go and have coffee. If you are out in that area and want a very unique and more urban coffee experience mixed with the peacefulness of a small town located in a historic downtown go here. Been here quite a few times... Even worked from here on two occasions. Aside from having more than decent coffee, the staff are usually really pleasant. There is not a whole lot of pretense here, which is nice. The house it resides in is phenomenal. This is exactly what you want from a small neighborhood place, but it falls just a touch short. Cozy, but still a little stiff, unfortunately. The seating lacks that 'damn, the couch isn't available' feel you get from some coffee spots. Good for work and study, but if you want to sit and gab... This may not be the place. The coffee is good, and the baristas on staff seem to know what they're doing. I'm not too fussy, but I've seen some oddball orders handled just fine. Symposium in Sherwood gets it right much more than they get it wrong, though, and that's what counts. I'd have given five stars, but the seating options are limited, and the drinks are just a touch overpriced. At least here you won't get an over zealous cashier like you would at a Dutch Bros, though. read more

I was in the Portland area seeing family and needed my morning coffee, but didn't want to give my money to a big chain. So I stumbled upon Symposium and I am so glad I did. Went out of my way this morning to try this place out and man was it worth it! One of the best cups of coffee I've had in a while and I go to coffee houses alot. I really don't see why the Sheeple are so enamored with this place. It's nothing special. Service is somewhat slow and impersonal, the kitchen is a dirty mess and rather disgusting looking. I bought the $8 Seasonal salad and was disappointed. The board said berries came with the salad, but I guess they're currently out of season since there weren't any berries. The salad was so lightly dressed, I could barely tell any dressing was there. My tastes didn't align with my order, and I wished I ordered something else. Some people will like the raw taste of mixed greens, walnuts, and goat cheese more than I, and I hope they like it more than I did. This is a fantastic neighborhood coffee shop. I love that they get pastries delivered fresh from la Provence daily and that they feature stump town coffee. It's nice and warm inside and it's a great place to meet friends and sit on the porch and enjoy each others company. My only complaint would be that because they don't stock a lot of their food (it's delivered daily) you never know if it's going to be all gone if you go in the afternoon. I love this place. It is one of the few (non-bar) places in Sherwood that is open late. It makes a great hang-out spot. They have great drinks (I'm not a caffeine person, but they have great steamers, hot chocolate and herbal teas), salads, quiches, pastries, etc. One of my favorite local spots! read more

It's great to have this as a space for gathering and community... especially as it's open until midnight. It makes Sherwood a little more endurable. The drinks don't come cheap, but you're also paying for a warm, friendly atmosphere in which to socialize or study, so it evens out. By far the best lavender latte that I've ever had. I've tried them all over the country, but this will always be my favorite stop.
