My first time. Granma Yelpie got to flying... Well not on my first try. Co-located in a shared…read moreoffice/incubator space in the ever-renovating mills building on Broad Street, aerial yoga is not for everyone or the faint of heart. BUT if you brave it out, it's an experience like no other. Forget what you know about traditional yoga, although having the form and respect for your movement will serve you well. Silk "hammocks" suspended from the ceiling are your toys of the day. Straight out of 50 Shades of Grey or 50 Shades of crazy... it's an experience. I'm older, heavier and crotchetier than most, and was wise enough to experiment with a 30 min one-on-one, led by a nimble, ethereal and gazelle-like instructor - Kora. She takes a lot of the "fear factor" out of the training, and allows for your comfort level. You sit on this hammock and perform different feats against nature, like hanging upside down like a bat. Not bad for my first time, other than my 3 belly jelly rolls had a party hanging out in opposite direction of where they normally are... CHALLENGING! It will help you build upper body strength, core and balance. In a very calming environment. If you are in to trying new things, give it a whirl (LITERALLY!). At a minimum, you can tick that one off the list!

I'm trained as a yoga teacher and love checking out various classes, so when I had a chance to…read morevisit my friend in Hudson she brought me to Georgia's class. What a great class, and great group of people! I'm Kripalu-trained and observed that the class met individual students where they were at. Her instruction was safe and thorough, offering variations based on what students were looking for. Props are available and encouraged. As a super bendy person, I really really really like blocks and straps! The space was unassuming, after all it is in a martial arts space -- but yoga is anywhere, it's not just a bamboo-floor/buddha statue experience, and I value how welcoming, comfortable and compassionate this class was. If I lived closer, I would definitely attend classes regularly. This is not power yoga, however as a teacher if there's one thing I've noticed is that the power-flow-hot-'type-A' yogis are challenged by gentler, more meditative classes (that don't do the same flow every time), because these types (with all due respect) want to go-go-go and feel they aren't benefitting without a sweat and shaking-aching muscles. So to all those power yoga practitioners out there, you'll expand your vinyasa practice if you throw some of these classes into the mix. Plus, you can work your mula bandha as hard as you want, no one will know the difference :) Here, you do get challenge, with a dose of understanding how the mind comes into practice, and that touching your toes or perfecting that arm balance is not the goal of yoga. It may be a happy by-product, but when you consider how postures are 1/8th of the full practice of yoga, it's worth considering your aims. Those impressive postures are not the only way to strengthen your _core_. So come hang out in Hudson with a diverse, friendly group of people. I whole-heartedly recommend this studio. Namaste

I also have some longtime injuries that I have used as an excuse, not to exercise. Big mistake. This gentle yet powerfully led class is already making a difference to my strength and flexibility. I look forward to each class and always leave feeling more peaceful and much stronger.
