Well, here goes... I ordered carryout and after a short 10 minute wait, went home with General Taos Chicken, 2 Spring Rolls and an order of the Pork Fried Dumplings.... My wife introduced me to this place about 2 years ago, and she really likes the place, I on the other hand, just think it's ok, nothing special really... I started out with the PFD, and the outside of them was nicely cooked, but unfortunately, the pork inside was overcooked. I believe they cooked the pork, then put it in the dumpling and did a flash fry to it... The sauce they supply with them was tasty, but I couldn't get past the over done pork. The GTC has great taste, and is in a nice spicy red sauce, but make sure you dump it out to get to the bean sprouts they put on the bottom... I ate 75% of the Chicken and hit the bean sprout level... LOL Needless to say, the last 25% was 20% bean sprouts and 5% chicken... My bad... The spring rolls were ok, nothing to write home about. read more

By far the best chinese restaurant I've ever been, and the one I compare all others too. Appetizer: Crab rangoon ... you can actually taste the crab in it. Great flavor. Main dishes: General's, Cashew Chicken are two staples that I always get and are consistently great each time. There is another that we get with wraps and hoisin sauce that is just as good as well. In order to help keep others from making the same mistake I did, I am writing this review. I discovered this gem of a restaurant with one week left in Michigan! What a shame. The lunch prices are phenomenal! I paid $8 including tax for my lunch. Hot tea was included with the lunch to start and the restaurant was nice with very friendly staff. A rose in a little vase on each table, and very clean, well-lit dining area. I got the Kung Pao chicken and made it spicy. I had a choice of soup, between fried or white rice, and between crab ragoons or an egg roll. I picked hot and sour soup, fried rice, and a crab ragoons. The soup came first and was one of the best hot and sour soups I have had. In perfect timing, the meal came, and although she gave me an egg roll by accident, I did not care because I was so hungry and it was very good. The chicken was very good quality meat without any pieces of fat, and the fried rice was the best I have ever had. This experience was wonderful, and the waitstaff was very attentive to everyone in the room. I wish I had found this restaurant sooner! Usually I love this place, but tonight was an absolute disappointment. The service was great, but the food was BLAH and it primarily had to do with the temperature of the food. My hot sour soup was lukewarm, therefore none of the flavors came through. Our chicken fried rice, lukewarm, again affecting the flavor. Our General Tao lukewarm to cool...hence bringing out NO heat, but a tangy vinegar flavor, which ruined the meal. The idea that the main entrees were lukewarm to cool, made me wonder if these dishes are made in large batches and ours was just slightly reheated. I've NEVER had this as an issue. Yes, we could have sent it back, but it had taken quite awhile to get our meal and I assumed they would have just thrown it in the microwave. Our white rice HOT. Our steamed hot dumplings were piping hot and very good.Perfect pork to dough ratio. Sons chicken tenders were piping hot, lightly breaded w/ nice thin pieces of chicken breast. I love the food and decor here, it's like going on a vacation in my own backyard. General Suh's Chicken will stomp out your appetite. They have fancy cocktails, as any old school good Chinese restaurant should. I still get the Kiddie Cocktail, because this place reminds me of all of the Chinese places of my youth that are gone now. First time I went there (today) because I've heard how great the food is - not bad, but I've had better sesame chicken at Wong's Fu Wah in garden city. Their's IS the best! I've had just about everybody's sesame chicken around the Canton, Westland, Plymouth and Inkster areas and nobody can touch them. This place is a decent Chinese restaurant. They definitely have a very Chinese theme in their decor. I ordered wonton soup and the beef with hoisin sauce. Everything here seems to be ala carte. I didn't particularly care for the soup. The broth seemed kind of tasteless. I did enjoy the beef, however. It came with a lot of green onions on top. I was expecting just a few. I personally don't like them so I took them off before eating. The beef was tender and sliced thin. The hoisin sauce gave it a great taste along with white rice. A simple meal, but tasty. I've been here on other occasions, but it's been a while. I always remember enjoying what I ordered. This place is definitely worth a try if you like Chinese food. read more

I had a really good plate of Sesame Chicken for lunch today at Szechuan. The sesame sauce was very sweet on the crispy breaded chicken. The crab rangoons were very good and I could have eaten a barrel full, if allowed! Good portion, VERY fast service, and if I am in the area again - I will be back! I have been coming here for about 8 years and I have always chosen the Tai Chien Chicken (hot) and it is my absolute favorite meal ever. If I had to choose my last meal on earth it would be that. This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. Their lunch specials are perfectly priced and include a decent amount of food. The Crab Rangoons are some of the best I've ever had. The dipping sauce has great flavor and it's made in house. The Sweet and Sour Chicken, Orange Chicken, Sesame Chicken and the Lo Mein are a few of my favorite entrees. Their delivery time amazes me. Usually they give you a 40 min. - 1 hour window but expect to receive your food in less than a half hour, maybe even less. The staff is friendly and efficient too. read more

It makes me really sad to write this negative review as this has been my favorite local Chinese restaurant since I first visited in 1988. Today I met my father there for lunch since I had not been there in nearly a year. I ordered my favorite dish: Twice Cooked Pork. They have always done this dish about as well as any Chinatown restaurant I have ever visited. I was so disappointed with the plate I received. Instead of slices of lean Pork belly, the meat more resembled diced pork. Instead of being fairly dry and savory, It was covered in a sickly sweet, dark Brown goop of oil and Hoisin sauce that resembled Texas Crude. Any hint of heat: Nope. Any Fermented Black Beans or Fermented Black Bean Paste / Sauce: None at all. Scallions: ZERO. And Exactly 2 small pieces Red Pepper in the order (Two). What a shame. Please go back to your original recipe and loose the disgusting, sickly sweet Hoisin Sauce. I expect this from the average strip-mall Chinese joint. Not the "Best Chinese Restaurant" in Metro Detroit. I really hope I just caught them on a bad day read more

Absolutely my favorite Chinese place. I've been coming here got neatly thirty years. The food is always flavorful and fresh. My personal favorites are the Garlic Chicken, General Tsao's Chicken and Sesame Beef. I also like the Twice cooked Pork. The only entree I've ever had that disappointed me over all these years was the Almond Chicken. Not sure Cantonese is their strong suit. My husband loves the Crispy Shrimp, though he wants me to add that the broccoli is usually cold. The staff is very friendly and the service is always great. read more

Szechuan Restuarant has ruined all other Chinese food places for me. My family have been customers for many years and their food is top notch. My favorite is the General Tso's chicken, which comes in a red sauce and has just enough heat if ordered slightly hot. My husband usually orders the Ta-Chien chicken or the Orange Peel Shrimp, medium hot. We always end up going halfsies since everything there is delicious. Good food, don't let the exterior fool you! We had the basil chicken which had a ton of really fresh basil and the chicken and broccoli which is much lighter. They were both really good, I was glad I listened to the reviews and tried this place because I had driven by it hundreds of times and not given it a second thought until I read all the great reviews. My go to Chinese restaurant is, unfortunately closed on Mondays (I so much hate COVID and what it's done to small businesses). So I went here today. I have a cold and was hoping for hottest setting on Chinese food to help. I'm going to be fair here. The food was not awful. And there was a lot of it. But I ordered the hottest they had and I got - very mild. I was super disappointed. If you like very mild Chinese, this place is for you. For me, I'm not going to be ordering again (online ordering is serviced with a convenience fee, which plus the tip was not worth it). My go to place is chopstick house, which actually, when you order hot, you get hot and it's amazing. This place, you get bland. There's a lot of it. But it's super bland. I trusted the Yelp reviews, but they were very misleading. There's a lot of food (probably 4 servings), but they don't do hot or even sub hot. It's all mild, which for me, sucked. read more

We ordered here for the first time tonight! We got the sesame chicken, vegetable lo mein and the chicken fried rice (yum!). The lo mein and rice were delicious but I will warn you, VERY greasy. If you like grease then it's for you. The sesame chicken was too, very greasy and tasted like it had lots of soy sauce in it but not terrible. We were never asked if we wanted drinks. We had to ask before she took dinner order. You don't get brown rice, its extra. You don't get an egg roll, extra. The service was terrible, we had to keep calling her for every thing; never stopped and asked how the dinner or meal was. My daughters food was greasy. When we left we told the cashier about the service; they did noting to appease us, said she had a party. Maybe she should have given us to someone else. So we will not be back. We were looking for a decent Chinese restaurant for a very long time after a few places lacked the quality we wanted. This place seems a cut above all the rest. I think out of all of the places I've ordered sesame chicken, this place does it the best. I've never tasted a bolder, stronger sesame chicken in all of my years eating Chinese. Their sweet and sour chicken is also immaculate. The way they fry it is perfect. It's incredibly delicious. I have to say that their egg rolls/spring rolls are pretty disappointing, however. While their crab rangoons are out of this world, and their pork fried rice is just as amazing, their egg rolls are bland and boring. When ordering one, I expected a real fried egg roll, the big thick kind. These are tiny and compressed and not worth eating; the kind you get in the frozen food section of the supermarket. Blech. Their golden fried and peppecorn duck is also questionable. I can't eat either dish without getting nauseous. I don't know why this is, exactly, but it could be the huge sodium content. I mean, wow. Their duck is piled with salt. Be wary if you're watching your sodium intake, or if you have a sensitive stomach. I can't order either of those anymore, despite really loving duck. Still, despite those minor flaws, this place is our go-to for Chinese food. I wish their egg rolls were more authentic, but at least their rangoons are great for a side. read more

We love Sze Chuan, especially their shrimp toast [only place around where we can find it] and all their food. Yesterday we had a unique experience . Took my Veteran husband to lunch for Veterans' Day and he wore his Army hat. After a delicious meal [including wine], we asked our terrific server Lilli [?] for the bill and she informed us that someone who wished to remain anonymous [and had already left] had paid for our lunch, wine and tip as well. Being new to the Canton area and looking for a good Chinese restaurant, I found Sze Chuan Restaurant on Yelp. They were given 4 stars and everyone had good things to say about their experiences. I decided to order delivery. The menu had a large delightful assortment of dishes with excellent and accurate descriptions of what was to be expected in the dish. Upon calling, the woman who answered the phone was friendly and answered all my questions regarding delivery fee ($2 + $.50 per half mile from the restaurant, very reasonable) and how long it would take. While she said 40-1hr for delivery, my food arrived in 25 mins, (I did call early in the evening). The delivery man was friendly. The bag seemed a little light for what I was expecting. The food was in medium sized, typical, folded white boxes. I had ordered mushu chicken that generously came with 6 pancakes. The mushu was mostly almost cooked cabbage, few small pieces of chicken, cooked with canned mushrooms and salty. Was pretty disappointed to say the least. I had also ordered the deluxe fried rice to also, again, find little pieces of meat. To top it off it was bland. Lastly, god crab rangoons. How could you possibly mess those up? Well, you can.
