I had to get away from the strip because I wanted some authentic food. While I was doing some record shopping, I found my uncle; Tio Simon. When I tell you that my Venezuelan Unc can throw down!! I haven't eaten at a lot of Venezuelan cuisine restaurants, but this spot has definitely set the bar. The food is fresh and the service is awesome. For those who are not fluent in Spanish, don't worry about not understanding what you are ordering. The menu is written in English and Espanol! I am really glad that I found this restaurant. The meal I had is better than majority of the food I have had so far. Make you sure you stop by here. Unc and 'nem will take care of you. *I am not related to Tio Simon. However, I did have an Uncle whose last name was Simon and he lived in Jacksonville. Best bowler I have ever seen. Ok, I'm talking too much lol. Have a good one!

Tio Simon is an authentic Venezuelan spot. I have been craving a delicious Arepa and I stumbled upon this place on Yelp since I was close to the area. Parking lot was spacious and it's not hard to find the restaurant in the corner of the plaza. As we walked in, we were greeted by a kind gentleman on the counter. We were seated and we were greeted with a smile asking if we've been there before. They have a huge selection of Venezuelan cuisine in their menu, but I was more excited of the guava and cheese and to taste one of the Arepa so I ordered what the gentleman has recommended to us. When the guava and cheese Roll came, it was freshly baked and hot, and it was delicious. I even thought of ordering more to go, but I'd rather come back to taste the other food in the menu. The arepas filled with perfectly cooked and shredded meat inside with black beans and cheese. My son and I enjoyed it. It was delicious overall. And I would wanna come back to have a taste of more food that they offer.

Tío Símon is one of the best hidden gems in the Vegas area. The food is always excellent, and the service is top tier.

Si pudiera le doy 100 estrellas . Un costumer service espectacular de parte de Simón . La comida 10/10 literalmente una joya en las Vegas . De ahora en adelante mi lugar favorito para comer

    Beef arepa

The beef arepa was phenomenal! They have recently changed hands and all the food is so good. They cook on a wood fire oven. When you walk in, you can smell the goodness. Highly recommend giving this place a try you won't regret it. The desserts are really good as well.

The beef and cheese arepa is so freaking good. And for some reason the arepitas keep calling me back. They're little unfilled deep fried arepas and they come out piping hot with some crema and I LOVE them. The staff speaks very little English and my Spanish is so bad on a good day, but they're so nice and we can still get the job done . I've never walked out of there without being stuffed and happy. The Rika Chicha was like if horchata and rice pudding had a delicious baby and was a perfect way to cut through the savory meal. The plantains were perfect on the side. Of the two, I preferred the Surena as it boasted more overall flavor for me. The meat in both cases was cooked well. I did find the arepa itself a bit greasy but the flavors were there. Service was friendly but when we needed to pay it took a bit to realize we had to go to the counter. However, I also appreciated that they let us take time to digest.

I had read the reviews for Dandino's and I wanted to try their South American food. I ordered two items--a mechada arepa and a mechada empanada. Mechada is Venezuelan shredded beef. The arepa is made with corn flour in rounds and filled with whatever filling you choose. The empanada was not sealed, but was partly open. Arepas are a common food in Venezuela and Columbia. There was a bit of a language problem but we got past that. I took a seat and enjoyed the singing by an older man who played the keyboard and sang to entertain in the food court. When I ordered, I was told it would take 7 minutes and that was right on. The woman I ordered with arrived at my table with my arepa and empanada in that time. She then brought my Coke. First off, the food was blisteringly hot. I had to wait a bit to be able to enjoy. That showed me the freshness of the making of the items. The mechada was excellent. It was juicy and the sauce with the shredded beef had a super flavor. I'll be back but I'll mix my order and get a cheese empanada and a different arepa. It's worht the stop here. It is close to UNLV and I'm there often so there's not much of a drive. Note: This is a cash only place. No credit cards or contactless payments.

Mr. Cooker is a Las Vegas food truck that's been around for a little over a year now. I'm surprised at how few their review count is, despite their appearances at such events as the Great American Foodie Fest, Sunset Park'd, and a Yelp Elite Event. The former two are sometimes derided for overpriced and lackluster food, which is true for some places. However, they impressed people including yours truly at the latter, which is why I was so glad to find them in the wild today. Well, "the wild" in this case is the inaugural running of a weekly food truck gathering at the Total Wine & More on Las Vegas Blvd (near Fry's / Town Square), and it's more like a ring of about ten trucks/trailers/vans showed up and these guys were in the thick of it. I knew that they'd be among the best, so I couldn't pass them up as I regrettably did at other food truck events. The man running front of house (or outside of truck, in this case) gave me a brief tour of some of their menu. I went for his favorite after finding out that I could get two different meat choices. My order of patacones ($8 for two) came out within perhaps 5 minutes still plenty hot, but I eagerly dug in to these creations of meat, cheese, and sauces sandwiched between fried, crispy plantains. That crispness stands out first and foremost. It's not a hard crunch, and it yields something substantial in your mouth that texturally reminded me of some chicken skins that I'd recently had. Speaking of which, the meats are no slouch. The pork was great, but the shredded beef was surprisingly juicy and rich in flavor. And the slew of sauces was complementary and not overwhelming, although some areas were less sauced. Fortunately, I soon noticed that they had squeeze bottles including one that contained more of that ubiquitous green cilantro sauce. Ask for them. They're important. I'm definitely going to revisit Mr. Cooker soon. I definitely need to try their arepas, empanadas, pepitos, and perhaps one day a traditional certain comestible, if they ever source the right corn and cheese to craft the recipe to their liking. I'll be waiting.

I wish we had stopped back to try more of the menu. I'm glad that they are local and I can track them down another time. The Beef Empanada packed a lot of flavor and was fresh.
