I recently stopped by to upgrade my phone with T-Mobile. I was debating between the LG G3 and the Samsung S5 (I know, I know, the Galaxy S6 is just right around the corner, but I just couldn't wait anymore!!). Jorge was the associate who helped me with my entire transaction. He went through the pros and cons of each phone, and even let me play with his own phone, a LG G3, to let me get a feel for the phone. Pretty awesome sales associate there. After looking at the Galaxy S5, being super polite, Jorge asked what was the difference between the S5 and G3 that made me swing towards the S5, and my only reason was simply the fact that Samsung Galaxies have never let me down. Instead of pitching a sales speech, Jorge was incredibly reasonable and polite and suggested that I consider staying with Samsung. The reason, you ask? There might be a feature or some minute detail when using a Samsung that I don't think about, and can possibly drive me crazy if the G3 doesn't do it, or even do it in the same way. TRUTH! It was a very good point, and while I'm sure G3 is fine, I ended up going home with the Samsung because it has never let me down. My personal experience with this T-Mobile store being helped by Jorge was awesome. I received the service and help I wanted, and was treated professionally. I visited them many time for different issues more thank 10 times, and I had the same bad service at every time. last time, one of the guys working there was very rude, and he didn't want to take time to explain the extra charges in my bill. My brother and I went to T-Mobile for a much needed upgrade. Anthony attended us and he was fantastic. Excellent customer service! He introduced us to his manager, was super easy to talk to and answered all the questions I had and even helped me get a better deal on my plan. I qualified for 0% down and my brother and I walked out with new phones after paying a tax fee. I've been with T-Mobile for a long time and not once have I thought about switching over to another phone provider....That's because employees like Anthony that really do care about customers..Thank you Anthony! I love the binge on feature. I work in a file room during the day and we are allowed to watch movies or listen to music and I love that I don't have to worry if I am on the wifi or not. I also love how fast their LTE is here in San Diego. I only wish their stores were a little bigger, and they trained their in store reps a bit better. read more

Everyone here has always treated me well. I did have a slightly better experience bringing in my own phone than buying one in person. It was really straightforward to buy a phone online and bring it to the store for setup. They didn't give me any hassle about not buying the phone from T-Mobile, and just set it up with a new account for me. When I went in to buy a phone from them directly, they had a very small selection. I think the cell phone kiosks in the malls have 2-3x as many phones! While the prices weren't terrible, I could have saved a little money purchasing elsewhere. Sometimes convenience is more important though. The main downside of buying the phone in-store was the sales associate was required to put a $10/mo insurance policy on the phone, which he told me I could cancel after 2mo by accessing my account online. I put it on my calendar so I won't forget! The associate offered to help me transfer my files from the old phone to the new one, but since I already backed everything up, I declined that service. If you have the opportunity, buy the phone online, bring it here, and then you'll have a great experience. read more

Came in because my phone has been gradually dying faster and faster. When I got the phone I could give it a charge at night and be good all day, recently it has been practically dead after a full charge in 4 hours. Tried to explain this to the guy that said it was "his store", which I don't know if that means he owns the store or manages the store, anyway, after trying to explain this to him he essentially tells me I'm not fully charging it and I can't have my Bluetooth on and that's the reason it dies so quickly, after telling him I have always has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on and it would last all day he condescendingly tried to explain the technical details of cell phone technology and how this was normal. After this I asked to speak to someone else and this is when he informed me that this was " his store ", so at that point I figured it wasn't worth my energy to stay and argue so I left. In my opinion that guy needs some people/customer service training, seemed like a smart guy, but being in the technology industry myself smart technical people aren't always the best at dealing with humans. Hopefully the guy was just having a bad day and this is not the norm, but it was bad enough to compel me to write about it. read more

I cannot even begin to express how amazing the service and professionalism that this store and amazing Employees Alejandra and Irving were. I Had to exchange a Galaxy Note 8 and it was going to eb at the 7608 Linda Vista Rd. store, but the stores warranty system was 'down' so they had it reshipped to this store on Balboa the staff there is amazing they both stayed over 40 minutes after the store closed to address all my concerns, transfer my data, exchange my phone and help me make sure everything was up and working 100% before I left. I will be doing all t-mobile business with this store that's how Happy I am with their service. They went above and Beyond. Let's be serious... few people want to go to the wireless store: they are crowded, it's gonna take a long time, the newest stuff is sold out, etc. This isn't a story about that. It's a story about how good employees who care about customer service still exist. I had a difficult problem w a rebate from a phone that was purchased several months ago. To make a long story short, I almost don't care if I get the rebate back. I'd spent hours on hold, navigating phone trees, filling out forms online, repeatedly trying to get this handled. It wasn't this store's fault. It isn't their problem, I got the phone at another store. Alejandra P. Greeted me warmly, listened to me carefully and made sure I knew she was going to work on the problem as best as possible, and not just send me on my way with a number to call at promotions. While she called promotions, waited on hold, input data that she had to hunt down instead of me having to do it. Everyone there was pleasant and kind. She repeatedly needed to use multiple screens to escalate the issue and or get information that would have taken hours for me to either figure which line or number was being referred to, if I could even figure that out. The shift manager, Cory B. got involved as well since promotions at T-Mobile basically said it wasn't their issue, despite me submitting the online forms not once but twice. Their delays at promotions made it so i was outside the rebate window. Not willing to let the rebate be given up, Alejandra and Cory used their contacts from their time at Tmobile to reach out to the managers at the store where I had purchased the phone, instead of saying there was nothing they could do. Eventually they were stopped by the limits of the record keeping software at the local level. Being stopped didn't mean quitting. Cory sent emails to those who had access to the data they needed, emailed the correct managers above him to continue the quest for my rebate, and showed me the emails and gave me the names of who would be contacting me as well. He also made it a point to tell me that he would be checking in with me himself. Remember, both these people did nothing that caused this issue. It wasn't their fault. It wasn't their store's issue. They took a full hour of their time hunting this down, filling things out, trying everything within their power to get this done, with me sitting there, pleasantly surprised at the extraordinary efforts they were expending on someone who wasn't even their customer, who randomly brought them this problem. HEY T-MOBILE CORPORATE! Listen up, YOUR EMPLOYEES AT THE STORE LEVEL ARE WORKING HARD TO DO ALL THEY CAN TO SOLVE PROBLEMS AND KEEP THE CUSTOMERS HAPPY! You need to empower these people with someone inside the corporate tier that they can contact to solve these problems, rather than leaving them to deal with the problems generated by endless phone trees, cross department issues, and the inability of customers to adequately access tools to solve issues caused by automated systems. This store, Alejandra and Cory, went so far out of their way to make T-Mobile corporate look like it's not an ATT customer service copy- arguably the worst service in the business. These two people reflect so well on the hiring practices at T-Mobile but they need to be allowed to either access what they need, or do what they must to solve problems. When they finally had expended all possible options, you could tell they were dissatisfied. They weren't worried that I was gonna be upset. They were frustrated they couldn't complete the task. I was there long enough, they actually brought me a cookie from one of their lunches in the back! So where do I sit after my visit here? Well, I still don't have my rebate. What do I think about that? Well things happen. It the nature of life. Will I continue to do business w T-Mobile? Yes. Why, because their cost structure and benefit of use proposition is good, their network is functional, and their CEO, Jon Legere wants to deliver value while being disruptive. To their credit, the included Netflix transfer was great, and is a great value added perk. But mostly, I'll be patient for a while longer because of the efforts of these two amazing employees who took time out of their day to help someone when they had nothing to gain. If this review gets read by anyone from corporate, please reach out to Alejandra and Cory and send them whatever attaboy you can. When their evals are being written for their merit raises USE THOSE 5 STAR WORDS YOU'VE BEEN SAVING, ALWAYS SAYING NO ONE IS PERFECT... these two people did perfectly. I'm in a high end customer service profession. It's hard to win me over. These guys did perfect. Yelpers, and anyone whose looking for a T-Mobile phone, go to the balboa location. I watched the rest of the team treat people great while I was there. They will treat you right. Great job guys, and thank you. read more

This place used to be so good with the service that I've been going there for years but I'll no longer be going there cause their service just went downhill they don't care about the customers at all and they're not willing to help anybody with the note 7 recall cause i called all the several stores and they've been instructed to help all customers with the recall and the exchange is easy all we do is go in swap the phone out but this store you need a receipt which i ended up losing during my move. When in fact they can just probably look it up in the system. Anyways i went to a different store in clairemont off clairemont mesa blvd. Which was a way better service they told me they only had blue and told me if i wanted black i can order it thru tmobile and have it shipped to that store which will only be marked for me and nobody else and the store told me the receipt is not required cause they got a letter instructing them to switch out the new note 7 for the ones on recall. So the balboa store i don't know where they're getting their information from but I'll be sure to report that store to the headquarters and if you do go to that store don't deal with this short black girl like 4'10 has a bad attitude and service read more

This place truly earns their horrible rating! Do not trust a thing they tell you, as every single thing that was said or promised turned out to be horribly untrue. The staff Amy, Jorge, and Alex had no idea about the product they're selling or maybe just don't care to be honest not quite sure. When called on their lies they preceded to act contrite and condescending. I have been with T mobile 24 hrs at this point and already taking my business elsewhere. We reported them to corporate as well as turned over to them the video we took of the last interaction at the store and will make sure to follow thru and ensure that they are not allowed to scam anyone else. I went in to the store to ask if they could change my regular sim card to a micro sim card for a new phone I received for Christmas. I was greeted by a rude employee. He gave me some BS about how T-Mobile doesn't do sim-cutting anymore and tried to force me to buy a $20 sim card (I knew I can get replacement sims online at T-Mobile for little or no cost). I promptly left the store and went to a different T-Mobile and they were happy to cut my sim card for me. They even offered to replace my sim card if it didn't work. If you are looking for T-Mobile service, look elsewhere and don't give these guys your commission dollars. All these guys care about in the Balboa location is sales with no regard to customer service. read more

Absolute worst service I have ever seen. You get what you pay for however and when I switched from ATT my bill dropped significantly but its not worth it, I would gladly pay double then have to deal with the poor service, lies and incompetency from Mobile, this store in particular. First off, they lie. Flat out lie to your face in order to get the sale, they got me TWICE this way. First time they promised a "jump" from phone to phone 3 time a year with NO charges guaranteed. LIE. There is a $60 charge to do this and I was pissed and tried to complain to manager but got nowhere. Second time when I "jumped" they "gave" me a free 1 year subscription to Netflix but when I tried to redeem it Netflix informed me it was only to the first 25K subscribers (which had surpassed a MONTH before I was given the promotion by Mobile). Again they promised to research it and do something for me but never got back to me and told me I couldn't get my old phone back or cancel because it was gone. The list goes on and on and if you read most of these reviews you will see the same patterns of lies, inconsistencies and incompetence. STAY AWAY FRO TMOBILE, TRUST ME!!! read more

I have been with their family plan for years. I had a bad experience about a year ago, employee selling me something did not do all she said it would, and returning it was uncomfortable, the manager Kristina barely spoke to us as she was processing the refund, you could tell she was so annoyed. I want to upgrade my plan from the old fashioned phones to the new ones and I admit I am challenged in that regard. So I went in to pay my bill, and thought to ask one of the employees some questions. They weren't busy, so it seemed like a good time because I understand if you are busy and someone is asking you questions it can be a drag. He was a young Asian guy, don't remember his name, but he talked to me like I was stupid, I swear he was smirking whenever I asked a question, like he was amused by my severe lack of knowledge. I'm old enough to be his mother, and have been with their company a long time, and trying to get ready to take this leap into the next generation of phones, so please don't make me feel like a fool. I just cut short my questions after the first few and left. I'll take the drive up to UTC store and talk to them again now that I am ready to upgrade. They were so nice, not only answering my questions but went on to educate me with additional info. What a difference! read more

Came to the store at around 7:50pm to come pick up and activate two iphone 6's because another T-mobile store did not have them. The sales associate that helped me was named Chris. Given it was nearly closing, Chris did not rush during my transaction, which I really appreciate! He was very knowledgeable regarding the under-appreciative phones (ie. Sony, which my husband LOVES) and was not hesitant to EVEN dim the lights so that my husband can test the camera at low light setting. Overall, lots of space & products to explore at this store. I got my two iphones and I left the store well over closing time. I can't complain here! :) read more

Tahlia Patterson was one of the most generous, kind, and caring customer service representatives I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. After moving to Toronto--where I purchased a mobile phone plan from Freedom Mobile--I experienced issues gaining access to T-Mobile's cellular phone services after coming back to southern California for the holidays (T-Mobile works in conjunction with Freedom Mobile when the latter's customers travel to the States). I had no luck resolving my phone problems after spending nearly SEVEN hours conversing with multiple associates from Verizon, T-Mobile, and Freedom Mobile, and needless to say my "holiday vacation" was wasting away minute by minute. After feeling defeated while at the same time not being fully able to start my holiday vacation, I decided to give it one last shot before walking into the T-Mobile store off Balboa Avenue. As I walked in I was lucky enough to catch Tahlia--the Retail Associate Manager--free for one moment of the various demands required of such a knowledgeable person as she is (as I spent multiple hours in the store, I came to the realization that Tahlia is quite popular with the local customers). Even thought she realized right away that I wasn't a T-Mobile customer--despite being assigned their services via my wireless phone service in Toronto, Canada (as described above)--Tahlia decided that she would do her best to tackle the incredibly tedious problems I had been confronting over the last few days. My ability to craft this wonderful experience/story into a non-fiction novel is far from novice, yet I can express the conclusion (i.e. moral of the story) very concisely: Tahlia went above and beyond her responsibilities as a manager to spend the next several hours with my partner and I to make sure that we left the store happy; Tahlia decided at the very beginning that she would do her best, not just as a manager of a T-Mobile store, but as a positive, inspiring human who wants to be the change she'd like to see in a world. To be sure, Tahlia expressed empathy in my situation and wanted to spread her kindness from the moment we walked in the store. You can tell by the way she runs the store and treats her employees that not only does Tahlia want to have a great day herself, she wants everyone she works with, as well as everyone who comes into the store, the opportunity to experience the same. Tahlia Patterson made my day, and if everyone behaved that way in society, and if everyone cared even half as much as she does, we'd have a much better world to thrive in than the one we live in now. Switched carriers to T-Mobile in my neighborhood. Been putting it off because of concerns whether the process would be a smooth transition. I was pleasantly releived that there were no glitches and now I have a better plan. Jason was very helpful especially when I didn't know whether my existing phone was locked or not. I wanted to give this store zero star but too bad I can't, when I first walked in three sales associates were on their computer and did not greet me at all, when I finally get to talk to one who's name was Jose, he was rude and did not want to help at all. I told him I was promised to receive a free nano SIM card from t-mobile, he just replied no it's not possible and it cost $20 to get one(when other t-mobile charges $10 he insist to charge $20) I told him what my situation was and he kept refused to give me a SIM card until he looked up on my account and finally shut up and gave me a free nano SIM card. This guy Jose has a real attitude problem, I would not recommend anyone to go to this branch. The one on Clairmont Mesa Blvd has much better customer service. read more

I have AT&T as my mobile phone carrier service before and then switch to T-mobile hoping to get a better service, but I was wrong switching to T-Mobile because their services is worst. T-Mobile refuses to refund my account balance after I cancelled my service. They only offer a balance transfer when in fact my dissatisfaction with their service is what prompted me to go with another carrier. Their customer service has been rude (hanging up on me several times), given me conflicting information, promised to return calls and did not, transferred me from agent to agent and so on. I have never had such a bad customer service experience and I will never again make the mistake of giving them my business. read more
