Maza plate
Michelle K.

Delicious!!! Ordered the maza plate that has falafel, hummus, baba ganoush and pickled daikon. This plate is large enough for two. The customer service is always friendly. If you're at the Makuu market on a Sunday check them out.

The falafel is decent but they have no competition in Hilo so you gotta take what you can get. The fries are pretty disappointing as the portions are small and they are over cooked. The biggest flag for this place is the wait for food is ridiculous. I called in and they said 15-20 minutes. I show up and the parking lot is empty. I wait another 25 minutes for my food. What a freaking waste of time. The wait is not with the food.

My dad picked up a falafel sandwich from the food truck for me. Overall, I thought it was pretty good. I've had bad experiences with falafels being too dry in the past, but this falafel was good. I thought the pickled daikon added a nice touch, and all of the ingredients inside the sandwich were very flavorful.

The food is tasty. If you are in Hilo and have a craving for Middle Eastern food, this spot is definitely worth considering. I ordered the Deluxe Maza, and it's enough for two people to share. Although it's priced at $29, the portion is generous. The service provided was satisfactory, and there's seating available on-site to enjoy your fresh meal. There is no air conditioning, but there is outdoor seating.

The falafel was great, the portion was good and the sauce was just right, not too much that it's spilling out of your hands. The fries were in the fryer for a bit too long for me so they felt a bit greasy but very crunchy. Their mint l'émondante was delicious! The ambience is great too as it's a food truck with an open area for seating, it has shade so you won't just be sitting in the sun and it's located conveniently in town next to a few churches and Lyman Museum.

Living in a small town and always getting the same take out can be a drag - no complaints tho..love the restaurants in Hilo town :) When we find out about new places, we enjoy a good adventure to try them out Tabarak is a must!!! I can now say that I've tried Lebanese food and it does not disappoint The flavors are unique- not over powering too My husband had the Falafel & I had the Samak Kabob Sandwich with the house French fries. we also had the beef skewer (tender beef with grilled onions & tomato..) For dessert we had the Baklava.. that for sure hit the spot delicious!

Lebanese food in Hilo? Say whaaaat. Definitely had to try this place! It's located near downtown across of Kozmic Cones. There's a sign on Waianuenue Ave directing where their exact parking location is. There's some parking spaces in the back/side of the food truck and its seating area but lots of street parking since it's located in a semi-residential area. I got the Samak-Kabab which contained ono (fish), baba ghanoush, zoug with a walnut, parsley, tahini sauce and side of fries. I didn't know what half of the things on here were but the picture they had on their website made it look AMAZING. Yes, I ate with my eyes first. When I tried it, it was full of flavor. It wasn't too rich, but it was super creamy from one of the sauces (dunno which one but probably the zoug??). The fish was kind of overcooked but the sauces masked it a bit. But dang, was that good. The fries were kind of meh. We all expected them to be crispy due to its color, but they weren't. One of my friends got the Shish-Kabab which contained beef tenderloin with hummus, parsley, onions, summak, tahini sauce, and a side of homemade fries. If you thought the Samak-Kabab was good, wait until you tried this one... The meat was sooooo rich with flavor and different spcies that I actually wished I chose this one instead (LOL). But because it was that good, I DEFINITELY have to go back and get one for myself. Overall, highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to try Lebanese food. Dunno if you consider this authentic since I've never tried them before until now. I gotta say it's worth the try!

Samak-Kabab Sandwich and Fries

Ordered the Samak-Kabab Sandwich and a side of Pita Bread and Hummus. What really stood out to me from this place is honestly the FRESHLY made Pita Bread. It was so soft and delicious, the hummus was....hummus nothing bad just wasnt anything special. Finally the Samak-Kabab Sandwich was good, the walnut and parsley reminded me of a pesto I had before (fresh tasting) but yet again nothing "special." The fries though were great, they were exactly how I like them Soft lol. So in all the food was good but it doesnt leave me wanting to come back again and again. I'd honestly most likely would go back just for the yummy Pita Bread and Fries.

Overfried fries. 45 mins wait for the food. Over expensive. Not worth the money. Will not come here again.

I won't be going back! Great outdoor heaters, love lighting - date night ambiance! The dressing for the salad in the Works was tasteless! Service not good either, rude - not happy workers! Only thing I liked was the baba ghanoush, but (bread it came w was hard and thin (is it supposed to be that way?)

There was a big private parking lot, lawn and open tables and benches. There are actually two pop ups here. A seafood place and this Lebanese spot. They aren't food trucks but rather little permanent wooden shops. We were greeted by a friendly server and we made our orders. Pricing is a bit hefty at $23 per plate, but hey we've got to try something new once in a while. We found a spot and played a few rounds of tic-tac-toe as we waited for our food. The lemonade mint drink was very refreshing! Soon our food was delivered. The vegetables were fresh and our meals tasty. We tried the Kafta and Chicken Shish plates. The portion of starch to meat was somewhat disappointing as there were big amounts of rice and fries. The chicken was reasonable but the beef was too little. The hummus was quite delicious. The side salad was also very tasty. In all, the overall food experience was just ok. It would have been better if the servings of meat to starch were more balanced. The vegies were great but the presentation for on site eating was in take out containers. For this type of pricing I would have expected more.

We tried the simple breakfast plate and a breakfast sandwich, and both were tasty and really hit the spot. Since we went on a weekday, it wasn't too busy inside, which made for pretty quick service. We had an amazing vegan dish here for our little brunch we did in mid morning earlier today…read more We saw this restaurant yesterday when we were browsing Hilo a few nights ago. We didn't think of anything when we saw it the first time. By just looking at the name of it though, my immediate reaction was, "Is this a kombuchas bar??" Well, it is but it's not just kombuchas they serve; it's more than that. The breakfast/brunch dishes they serve (although they don't have a huge selection) are quite diverse. I do incorporate a lot of vegetarian/vegan diet into my daily meal routine so when I saw the Verdant Vegan I simply couldn't skip it. As my daughter and I usually split a plate when we dine together she agreed to this option of mine. Glad we did. This plate has all sorts of goodness included in it. Sautéed veggies, house-made lentil walnut chorizo, ginger beet kraut, fire-roasted jalapeno cashew crema, fire-roasted tomato salsa, and it's topped it off with sprouts. This whole thing comes with either purple sweet potato home fries or red rice (which we went with the purple sweet potato fries and ended up getting a side red rice. We also got the side kimchi and one egg sunny side up.) And we shared a 16oz Ceremonial Matcha latte as well. This vegan plate is way more than vegan. It's mighty as hell. For those who are still not sure about vegan options will definitely second guess it for something that isn't vegan/vegetarian. It's truly nutrition packed in so many different ways. If I lived close to this cafe, I would eat here once a week to enjoy this delightful meal. I am not kidding. I enjoyed the matcha latte very much although my daughter rated it as "okay". She likes her matcha in a very particular way so it unfortunately didn't impress her. This is not to say that she disliked it. She said it wasn't bad either. This place is a "walk in, order upfront, pick a table where you want to sit and one of the staff will bring your food to you" style cafe. Water is self-served. Once you are done with your meal you'll put your dirty dishes in the designated tub. I like this efficient style of serving food. This place has great vibes as well. A bit hippie-ish where bright dark colors such as purple and red are incorporated into the interior. There is even a stage where bands perform on certain days/times. Quite cool-looking. If you are visiting Hilo soon then put this place on your "must visit" restaurant list. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and quality food will entertain you for sure.

Cardamom coffee cake was moist and full of sweet spicy goodness with chocolate chips sprinkled in. The cinnamon raisin walnut swirl was large, dense and heavy. I opted for the one without sugar icing on top. The sweet cinnamon goo rolled in the middle was so good and made me feel less guilty than when eating a Cinnabon. The guy at the counter told me he wanted to work at the bakery after eating the ginger molasses cookies, so of course I had to try them! They were big, soft but with density and tasted like fall. Not life changing for us, but good for those who appreciate that size. Because they close on Sundays and I was only there for the weekend, I went a little nuts. Also had to try the Lilikoi pie. It was different from those I've had on Kauai. This one had more of the consistency of a keylime pie which they also offer. It was tart abd good. Portions and sizes here are generous. Their style is more rustic and homey. So glad Hilo has another good bakery for me to visit ! Next time I'll go earlier when they're not sold out of their best sellers! (Oops!
