Hands down, the best falafel sandwich I have ever had. The 30 minutes wait was so worth it. The pita bread was soft and has all fresh ingredients on top of the falafel, loved the beets , have never had with beets before , the whole sandwich was moist and well seasoned that you will never need any other sauce to add. We ordered the shish kebab rice bowl and the falafel rice bowl...and it was amazing. Everything was cooked to perfection, the meat was tender and the falafel was the perfect crispness. The rice bowls are bursting with flavor and the added pickled veggies and herbs made everything taste so fresh! The dining area is also very cute and welcoming, and the service was superb! I had a very good experience here. Owner was friendly and welcoming, chatted with me about how each dish is made while I tried to decide what to get. He told me ahead of time that it would take about 20 minutes, as food is made to order. I ended up getting the fish sandwich, which I enjoyed very much. My husband and I moved from Los Angeles to Hilo last year and were missing Middle-Eastern food. My Persian dental hygienist who moved to Hilo from Los Angeles recommended Tabaraka. My mom, husband, and I tried the kafta sandwich (seasoned ground beef) and the "coast style shish-tawook" sandwich (skewered-chicken cubes with Lebanese garlic sauce). Both of the sandwiches were excellent! The sandwiches were made to order, so we did have to wait for a while for them to be prepared. But they were definitely worth the wait-the sandwiches were fresh and delicious! The fries were exceptionally delicious with a special paprika seasoning. The garlic sauce was very tasty, and the pita bread that was used for the sandwiches was soft, warm, and fluffy. You could tell that everything was prepared with great care and pride in excellence. The gentleman charged us $3.50 each for a 3oz side of tahini sauce and 2oz side of hot sauce. $7 for sauce for $35 worth of food you purchase is just ridiculous. I cant say I've had alot of Lebanese food but I've always enjoyed falafels when I've had them before. Unfortunately I didnt care for these falafels. They were hard and dense and maybe thats authentic but it wasnt enjoyable for me. The sandwich how ever was very tasty and the pitas bread was soft and exactly how you would hope. I'm not one to sing a food truck for not being perfect but I would definitely give them another try. The fries were good but nothing special. I wish you success cause it's always nice to have variety and I want some baklava. I can just tweak my order and I'm sure I wont have any more issues. It's a vegetarian's paradise with big falafel pitas and plates packed with pickled veg and tasty hummus. Meats are very well seasoned and grilled, and I believe they source local to the island where possible. I'm loving the new rice bowl option. Why can't I give full stars? First, the prices are extremely high for the amount of food. Second, the fries are abominable. How they manage to always be so burned yet so soggy will always remain a mystery to me. Farris (the owner) moved his business into Hilo near the public library. He has authentic and delicious food. Skewers, falafels and other different dishes. I ordered the "Beirut" which was French fries, coleslaw and pickled Diakon with a garlic yogurt dressing (I passed on the ketchup). If you like it spicy he'll add some pickled hot peppers. Know it's heavy carbs but I got my workout in today so all good. The seasonings used are what makes the sandwich. Farris is a friendly,personable guy happy to serve you. If you want to stay and eat he has set up tables and chairs with sunflowers on the tables. So if you want to try something different and like this type of food check it out. It's our new favorite Hilo spot. Every time we go the food has been so good. I'd recommend ordering online, choose your pickup time (minimum 60min out), and then show up 5 minutes late. Yikes. I'm so conflicted writing this, because I do think their food tastes really good. But their wait times are atrocious and unacceptable. This has happened every time I've gotten food from them (even when I left the higher rated reviews), but I thought it would get better and I think you have to give places multiple chances to improve. After calling in an order and being told it would be 35 minutes (no problem there), we get down there about 40-45 minutes later to pick it up. We waited another 20 minutes for our food. So did another person who had called in an order. What is the point of calling it in if it's not even going to be anywhere near ready? This is literally what happens every time we go, and we always see other people showing up experiencing the same delay. The worst part this last time was upon getting home and eating our order, my husbands sandwich was warm but mine was cold. Like actually cold, not lukewarm. And my pita was rock hard. I will not be going back until they figure this out. And it's not cheap! read more
