Wow! The food here was so good we came back for a second night out of our three even though we were staying in another part of town. The mushroom toast, onion soup, French dip, sides of Brussels sprouts and carrots were all fantastic as was the pot de creme dessert. The bone marrow was pretty good, especially the excellent oxtail marmalade that went along with it, but I'm still just not a huge fan of bone marrow. The foie gras Monte Cristo was pretty good but very sweet. And our only miss of the two nights was the smoked fish dip. Cocktails were also excellent and creative, and service was great from the hostess, manager, and bartenders we chatted with sitting at the bar. read more

I went here for dinner with a friend on a Tuesday; the place was quite busy, even on a weekday. Our server was nice and warm though we needed to wait a bit when looking for something because it was a busy day. We ordered some appetizers and decided to finish with the mussels and clams and COQ AU VIN for our mains. I liked all the appetizers, especially the Shrimp Louie and the French Onion soup. But this was a three-star because the main didn't meet our expectations. The mussels and clams didn't taste fresh, and we just didn't like how the COQ AU VIN tasted. An order of fries came with the mains but was overcooked and burnt. I would recommend if you are coming here to grab a couple of drinks and share some appetizers with your friends. read more

Last night, The three of us had a great Happy Hour at Tableau. The restaurant is both spacious and warm and NOT TOO NOISY. We enjoyed fresh oysters, steak tartare, onion soup and hot French fries. Most of all we appreciated the friendly servers that attended to us. We were particularly delighted with our French server. We were able to enjoy French conversation with her. What a treat to have French speaking staff in a French restaurant! Not all French restaurants do in VANCOUVER. read more

Sad to say the mushroom toast was very soggy and tasted of nothing but the cheese on top of the mushrooms. I adore mushrooms in general and their texture here was great, but you couldn't taste them at all. Sauce was bland and toast was completely mushy beneath. We arrived early to meet my husband's family - and we were seated right away. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating or professional. With a fantastic seat right by the entrance (but positioned beautifully that we were able to avoid any door draft) we were able to watch the magic of Tableau come alive. They were quick to get us set up with fresh water and well crafted cocktails. With each drink and/or table visit the staff were personable and conversational. Tableau has a chic french inspired interior. It's well designed and it was evident from the moment we stepped inside that this place is a popular classy spot and they know what they're doing. When the rest of our party arrived - the staff were prompt with taking our orders and delivering our meals. I ordered the arctic char and I was blown away by how flavorful it was. The char on the char's skin was incredible and it perfectly complemented the fresh cooked greens on the plate. My husband and the rest of our group were also bowled over by their meals, gushing about them - in between cocktail sips and handfuls of Tableau's incredible frites. We were here well into the evening and the staff were extremely hospitable. We never felt rushed and they offered knowledgeable guidance and approval when it came to wine picks throughout our meal. I was heavy with my water pours during our meal and I appreciated that Tableau's bathrooms were chic, spacious, and clean. Celebrated very belated birthday celebration for a girlfriend at Tableau Bar Bistro. We spared no expense for our boujee lunch, including a 10oz Japanese A5 Wagyu Striploin, the 'Eiffel Tower' (which included Oysters, Geoduck crudo, bone marrow, foie Gras, steak tartare, and fries), Scallops, and French Onion Soup for each of us! I did have a major foodie fail when I realized I never got a photo of the Japanese A5 Wagyu cause I was too busy doing a video. Sadly, the photo that I posted is a screenshot from the video. Oh well! OVERALL: 9/10 (Yelp Converted Score: 4.5/5; converted to 5/5). This is definitely a highly underrated place. Both my fiancé and I rate this place at a 4.5/5, and that probably still underrates this place. The only possible perceived "downside" - this place doesn't have a massive menu (but don't worry - that's a good thing!). My fiancé got a 5:45pm dinner reservation on Monday, Dec. 26; we both thought this place looked like an upscale fine dining restaurant, and were grateful that they at least had last-minute reservations open, since comparable places were either booked solid or closed. Verdict: If you haven't tried this place yet, TRY IT. If there weren't so many dang fantastic restaurants in Vancouver, or I was more local, I would definitely think about celebrating small milestones here. 1) VARIETY/SELECTION: 8.5/10. If you're going to knock this place at all, the only fair place to do it is in the "variety/selection" area. The lunch/dinner menu is one page, with 6 total sections (apps, seafood, steak, salad, "meals", and sides), all with 3-6 options in each section, so it is fair to say that there aren't "plenty" of options, but enough that a foodie with an appreciation for fine dining will have something to enjoy. 2) FRESHNESS: 9.5/10. My fiancé and I ordered two "hors d'oeuvres" (foie gras and bone marrow + steak tartare), one "steak frites" (NY striploin), and one of the daily specials (featured salmon). I also ordered a cider. - Lonetree dry cider ($9): It's cider. Light, sweet, tasted like apple. - Foie Gras ($26): This was dangerously good. It wasn't "a lot" (you could easily share this with 2-3 other people), but it sure packed some flavour in there. - Bone marrow ($20) w/ add-on steak tartare (+$10): The add-on steak tartare was awesome. The marrow was sometimes hard to scrape out, but the jam (in the front of foie gras photo) brought the entire thing together (bread + jam + marrow + tartare == WOW!). -- This came with the bread, but we ordered more, because there's more marrow/tartare then there was bread! (negative for portion sizing). -- Side sourdough ($2): It's bread. - Featured coho salmon ($38): My fiancé liked the salmon and the accompaniments, but the stuff underneath was simply "okay". - NY striploin - 8oz w/ frites ($47): The frites were INCREDIBLE - I can totally understand why someone would order these on their own (as a side). -- The steak was decent - the sauce that came with the steak really helped to solidify how great the dish was. It was cooked to a medium rare, as requested. The salad on the plate was not large, but "okay". 3) VALUE FOR MONEY: 9/10. All in, the dinner cost $187 CAD after tax and tip ($162 before tip, but after tax). Given what we ordered, this mostly tracked: - The cider was definitely on the higher end (I'd expect $7-8, so not bad); - Foie gras was probably a bit on the higher end. - Bone marrow was (itself) overpriced, but the add-on is SO worth it for $10 more. - Side sourdough - fine, they charge you $2 for bread. It'd be nicer if they didn't, but I won't knock it - it's not bad! Overall, not the cheapest meal ever, but for a "fine dining" place, the value was in the right ballpark. 4) SERVICE: 9/10. It's hard to knock this place for much, but there were only two (minor) instances where I felt like this place faltered. The first - I remember one instance where my fiancé asked when the next plates were coming (it had been a few minutes longer than expected), and when the server came over to refresh our water, they told us they were bringing it out soon (and they did!). The second - getting our coats took a couple of minutes as well as the host was away from the front table. What didn't affect the rating: My fiancé forgot (oops) her bucket hat here. If anyone from the restaurant reads this - we'd like it back, but it's also fine if it went missing. 5) CONSISTENCY / FIRST IMPRESSION: 9/10. The vibe in here was slightly dark (taller ceilings will do that), but felt like the inside of a fancy castle of some kind. Even the way to get to the bathroom felt regal. It's attached to the hotel - so if you're staying at the hotel, you can charge the meal to your room. Parking: There was plenty on the street when we arrived; but it's paid parking until 8pm. Allergies: Nothing to worry about on the peanut front - there were tree nuts (almond), though. read more

My current favourite restaurant! Menu is nothing out of the ordinary but the atmosphere, quality of food and service is what really makes it for me! I've ordered and tried so many things here it's so hard for me to pick a favourite dish because they're all my favourites. I absolutely love the Eiffel Tower which consists of a seafood tower and pâté as well as foie gras, steak tartar + more. Although it is a bit pricey ($130) you totally get your money's worth and I haven't had a pâté like theirs in a while! The restaurant is always packed and super lively so be sure to make reservations before coming! This is an amazing spot to unwind after a long day of shopping :) read more

This is a lovely find in the harbour district. A beautifully dressed Caesar salad was accompanied by wispy thinly sliced croutons and fresh white anchovies. An elevated experience. The Mussels and Clams, cooked perfectly, were nestled in a smoky, sweet and slightly acidic broth with stewed greens. Just delicious. Impromptu happy hour date with my gal pal Mel. Elites unite!! What a grand date it was!! I really enjoyed the cozy and dim lit ambiance of this tasty little find. I would highly recomend Tableau as a special occasion, seafood craving, or happy hour venue. I was impressed with the seafood tower we ordered and at a fair price during happy hour $75. The seafood tower came with oysters, mussels, crab legs, jumbo shrimp, scallops and tuna sashimi. One of my favs was the scallops as they were dressed in a lovely sauce with something a little sweet, pineapple I believe. Their Ceaser salad was also a hit, with creamy and delicious dressing, yummy fancy croutons and of course lovely presentation. You will need to cut the lettuce because its that fancy French style with whole romaine leafs, but I would order again in a heart beat. Service was excellent with all the staff helping each other. Our server, cute guy with an Aussie accent, went above and beyond for us as he tried to improvised crab cracking/scrapping tools lol. They really should get some proper crab tools, but we made due. On the recommendation of a fellow Yelp Elite, we met up at Tableau for their happy hour. The room is well laid out with large windows, high ceilings and several seating choices. There are plenty of options on the happy hour menu and I selected the burger and frites ($10) with the beer on special ($5). I liked the presentation of the burger and frites. The burger itself was pretty good but unfortunately the frites were quite greasy/oily. The service was excellent and our server was very pleasant, professional and attentive. With excellent service, and a good burger at a great price ($15 for a burger and beer), it was a positive food experience and happy to recommend the happy hour at Tableau. read more

This place really does take me back to my time in Paris. It's not a fake Parisian setting -- but one which is quite authentic. Simply put, this was the best French onion soup I've ever had. The frites were also excellent. The short rib was a bit unconventional in terms of being served as medallions (but tasted delicious with a peppercorn sauce). For dessert we had profiteroles with brown butter ice cream, caramel sauce and pecan choux. Without a doubt, I will be coming back here once I'm back in Vancouver. read more

I've now had several good happy hour experiences here in the last year or so and have really enjoyed the food and service on my visits. I recently came for an early dinner over the weekend. Tableau is next door to/part of the Loden hotel, and you can really tell. From the backsplashes to the comfy seats and warm service, top to bottom Tableau is a great place. I'd term it fancy casual, if that makes sense. Fancy food at a casual, cool place. They have a number of happy hour specials but my go to is the burger and frites. Both are spectacular, with a special nod to the fries. You'd be hard pressed to find a better B&F anywhere in the city and for $10 during happy hour it is a steal. We had reservations for a large party. We were promptly seated with drink menus. I selected the Caesar salad, bistro filet with charred scallion chimichurri, arugula salad, frites, and the butterscotch pot de crème. Oh my goodness! This was the best dinner I've had in Vancouver. I had the Lavender 75 and a white wine. The Lavender 75 cocktail was basically a lemonade for adults and paired well with the heavier hearty meal I had. I found the Caesar salad to be a bit unusual since the croutons were thin sliced bread chips, not chunky toasted bread bits. It was also interesting to see little anchovies sprinkled around since I expected anchovies to be mixed into a salad dressing. The frites were fabulously paired with a garlic aioli. I definitely cleared my plate with the tender bistro steak and arugula salad. I personally wasn't a big fan of the chimichurri sauce since I prefer a parsley based chimichurri. The presentation for the butterscotch pot de crème was adorable. I would describe it as a thick and smooth caramel taffy with sea salt. I was definitely satisfied after this meal. read more

My partner took me to Tableau Bar Bistro to celebrate our anniversary as I am a big fan of French cuisine. We got the foie gras as an appetizer and it did not disappoint! The foie gras was so creamy and paired very well with the apple and pear already and the hazelnuts added just the perfect little crunch. I only wished there were a few more crackers as there was quite a bit of foie gras left over we ate on its own at the end. For our mains, we got the coq au vin and the canard. The duck was oh so soft and melted right in my mouth! I was a big fan of the sauce the coq au vin and made it so tasty! Not the most convenient location if you don't drive but still walkable to Waterfront skytrain station and bus stops. Friendly and well-trained staff. Will ask to take your coat if you want, but you can have it with you. Clean washroom and nicely decorated place. Fancy but not too overly fancy. Pricier place but with the service and food it's worth it once in awhile. Portion is a bit small so will feel a bit overpriced but for an experience it's good. For a place you want to actually eat and be full but have a budget, it's not for you. Don't mind going back but not a place I'd frequent with the price and how far I have to travel. Good restaurant but also not a wowing factor that makes me feel like I need to go back. There are other restaurants similar and just as good. read more

I just crawled into Vancouver after being delayed for hours. Exhausted and frazzled, my friend drops me at my hotel around the corner (Paradox) and she finds a nearby place that can serve us. Great staff (they saved a pair of stools for us at the bar), great menu. I couldn't settle I what to eat so I put together my own tapas menu: bone marrow, Caesar salad, creamed kale, demi baguette. All of it was so freaking good. I ordered too much, though, what a waste but every bite was delicious. Really fantastic place for a meal! Great upscale bistro ambience and frankly the best Moule Frites I've ever had. These are plump juicy fresh mussels from Fanny Bay and they were amazing! The cocktails were perfect and really enjoyed Les Champ-Elysses and Breathless served by the friendly mixologists. The hangar steak frites was good but sous vide preparation dulls the texture that you'd crave for that cut but nonetheless tender and flavorful.
