Almost a 4 star because of the great coffees (highly recommend their lattes), but the menu is a little strange--super big plates for breakfast which are quite pricy--lots of heavy meats and fish for brunch options wasn't really our vibe. While visiting Vancouver and staying downtown, I found Chambar on yelp. It had good ratings and was less than a 10 minute walk so my husband and I decided to visit for dinner. We visited on a Thursday evening. The restaurant is located near BC Place Stadium and had FIFA going on, so it was fun seeing diners in their jerseys. The atmosphere was slightly lively yet still casual and comfortable. The interior design is very warm and lovely. You couldn't go wrong with either a casual dinner with a friend or a little date night here. To start - they brought out a small gazpacho, courtesy of the chef. I can't recall what ingredients were in it but it was definitely tasty and refreshing. I was very thankful that they served it. We began by ordering the foie gras and prawn dumplings as appetizers. Duo De Crevettes - I love a good dumpling but this one was a miss for me. Both the filling and the broth were VERY salt forward. :( Foie De Canard "Villa Lorraine" - This was my first time trying foie gras. The sound of pairing French toast with liver sounded odd to me, BUT it worked so well together! The slight sweetness and the thickness of the toast helped balance the extremely rich foie gras. The granita was definitely the star. A wonderfully refreshing palate cleanser after each bite. For our main dishes we ordered the moules frites and duck. Moules Frites - Congolaise - This dish was PERFECT. The portions were generous. The tomato broth was a happy medium of savory, salty, creamy, and slightly sweet. I loved that there were an abundance of extra little veggies in the broth as well (I believe bell peppers and onions). The fries were just a tad on the salty side, but who doesn't love fries? Le Canard - This dish was a 10/10. The duck was cooked flawlessly tender. The gnocchi had a nice chew and when the starchiness felt like it might be too overpowering... the salad balanced everything out in the end. The varying textures from the duck, gnocchi, celery, hazelnuts and apples made this a fun dish. Service was amazing throughout. The staff was attentive the entire time and took time to explain each of the dishes. Their enthusiasm and professional demeanor elevated our dining experience. My partner and I came for their Monday night staff dinner prix fix special. My partner wasn't really interested in going initially but was so tummy happy I convinced him to go. The menu changes every Monday. On the night we went, it started with a big bowl of roasted tomato soup. The main entre was a thick piece of pork chop perfectly cooked and juicy. We finished with the custard and chocolate sponge cake. Service was great and fast too. Date of visit: May 2025 We had a wonderful experience at Chambar attending their Apprentice Dinner. The evening featured a 4-course Nepalese-inspired tasting menu by guest chef Uddhav Neupane, and it was thoughtfully executed from start to finish. It was my first time trying panipuri, and I really enjoyed it--light, flavourful, and a fun introduction to new flavours. I always have a wonderful time here. It's a great alternative to waiting forever in the rain for Jam Café--which can feel a bit excessive. I love that you can make reservations and also walk in without much trouble. The service is consistently good and the food is delicious. I've visited for both brunch and dinner. For brunch, the waffles are always a solid choice, especially their smoked trout eggs Benedict served on waffles. For dinner, I tried their Dine Out menu this year and really enjoyed it. Stopped in here for dinner after getting in to vancouver. I immediately loved the space! It's spacious and open but the lighting is warm and cozy. I sat at the bar and really enjoyed talking to the server. All the staff were super friendly. And they have matchbooks here! The dinner menu is super interesting; everything has a surprising twist to it. I ordered the L'Assiete Forestiere, which is a vegan dish with mushrooms, sweet potato, bbq tofu, Brussels sprouts, root vegetables, and a unique sauce. Went for a friend's bday brunch and can't believe I haven't written a review for Chambar but tbf, it's been several years since I had brunch here and cannot remember what I ordered back then. I also had dinner for a work event maybe 2 years ago and remember getting the sablefish which was very good. The brunch menu has quite a few tempting dishes as was debating on a few from paella but had pork sausage so I couldn't to indulging on a lamb burger but felt it would be too filling so I went with shashuka. It consists of roast red pepper stew, baked eggs, green lentils, and fried halloumi. It was uniquely plated than I've had it at Medina so perhaps was surprised but it was very tasty. The fried halloumi was the star. The tomato spice based fried eggs was delicious to pair with pita chips w/ zaatar. The only thing that could have been better was the cooked green lentils but they were cold. I did not taste the pistachios and the barberry salad was too subtle. I had their delicious lavendar latte which was perfect for a rainy fall day as I used to dream abt this when I lived in Yaletown. The server was nice and was helpful in helping us figure out what type of drink we would want. Due to being a fan of Ciders, we ended up ordering the Nomad Traditional Dry. I got the La Saucisse, and my partner ended up getting the Brochette de Porc. Overall, the La Saucisse was delicious. In particular, the sausage was full of flavor yet still juicy. My partner and I were pleasantly surprised by how crispy the cornbread was, and we initially worried it might be dry, as we are used to American cornbread. However, that was not the case! First time here and loved the service, ambiance and portion was generous. We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and they had a Dine Out Vancouver special $65 per person, 3- course meal! I love that they offered a cheese board as a dessert but their coconut cheesecake was so decadent I would still choose that. The only thing that I found not so great was that lack of parking in the area unless you want to pay $36 for the parkade. The last stall in the restroom had windows that were not covered and there condos all around. My friend's bill also looked incorrect. A classy brunch spot in Gastown with unique brunch menu options! They have a large interior which allows for a bigger group. Pro tip: if you go there after 1pm on a weekend, you will most likely get a table even though you don't have a reservation. If you go earlier on a weekend without a reservation, be prepared for a long wait! Luckily, we didn't have to wait either and were seated right away. For drinks, we got their DIY bottle of mimosa which was good for 6 people, the bubbly definitely gave us a kick. The last time I came I had ordered their shakshuka which I loved, it came with fried halloumi and the creamy tomato shakshuka. However, this time I decided to mix it up and get another thing from their menu so I got their Rôti de Boeuf. It was a bit too "meaty" for me and I found it very bland. I told the staff that I didn't like it as much and if I could order something else. Visited this place based on the good brunch reviews. Plus point for being one of the few brunch places that accept reservation. Impeccable service and lively vibe, though it was slightly too noisy for you to chat comfortably with your friends. Food wise, personally much prefer Chambar vs its infamous neighbour with the massive lines. Shakshuka ($18) 8/10 A bit different compared to traditional shakshuka (in a good way), the baked peppers gave a nice smokiness to the tomato stew. Eggs on top were also baked perfectly as per my request. I enjoyed the twist of having halloumi and lentils on the side. Gaufre a la Raclette ($20) 7/10 Since Chambar is pretty known for its waffle, I expected this to be mind-blowing. Unfortunately, the waffle got soggy from the cheese on top. The mushrooms was the highlight for me (I think they used Worcestershire sauce?) as it was very meaty and umamy. La Truite Fumee ($19) 5/10 A fish burger with trout and egg sandwiched between potato bun. I'm not a burger's fan in general so this wasn't for me. Really outstanding restaurant. We walked in without a reservation and got lucky with a table. They gave us booth seating, which was great for our toddler moving around a ton. The wait staff was so patient with him.... being a toddler in a nice restaurant. Never once did I feel like he was bothering them, even though I know he was! We felt so welcome. We got the tasting menu and it included three courses each. Loved every bite of what we ate! The entrees blew us away with how tender the meats were. The dessert was simply amazing. We also got an entree for our toddler, which the manager came along and comped for us, after coming to meet us, check on us, and learn that we were visiting. He also offered both of us complimentary mocktails! The service (I wish I remembered his name!) was too kind and gracious. He was the highlight of our experience there. So I had some Mimosas cocktail while I waited. The mimosas was made with freshly squeezed orange juice. They also have fresh grape fruit and watermelon juice. I sat at the bar since the place was packed and I didn't have reservations. The bar tenders were so nice and very amazing service. I ordered the coconut curry mussels with sour dough bread and a side of fries. It was as amazing as I imagined! The mussels were so fresh and completely hit the spot! Our server was quick and helpful, especially in describing some of the dishes and helping us decide by asking about our preferences. My wife had the eggs with sausages. Hers was very good and she liked the andouille best. I had the eggs with short ribs. The meat was fall apart tender and the gravy was very flavorful. It is a nice place with a quiet (we couldn't really hear conversation at nearby tables) atmosphere. While the view out the windows is nothing special because of a mass transit station next door, the inside is warm and inviting. read more

Beautiful place! You walk in and they have a closet for you to hang your coats. We were able to get a last minute reservation and were taken downstairs to our table. My food wasn't what I expected. My lentils were delicious but the rest of it was so so. A little salty, the cast iron pan gave my food a weird after taste and my waffle was hard and not warm. My bf enjoyed his sandwich and i should've ordered the same thing. My macchiato was perfect and I drank it so quick I didn't take a picture. Great place for brunch in Vancouver! We had the Brochette du porc and the Fricassee and both were incredibly good. A nice sampling of the porc- the andouille was flavorful without being too spicy.
