So excited to come visit Tabor Tavern! Sis got a new home near the area and Tabor was our 1st destination to visit. So glad we did. Customer service is key and from the start we were welcomed with open arms vibe! Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. You can tell the rest of the staff was just the same. Everyone seemed so happy here so that was the best intro any business can have Great Job! Food: All I can say is wow! Fish n chips fried to perfection and the cast was light and flavorful how it should be. Salads were super fresh! Tabor Tavern is a cute little spot servicing the North Tabor neighborhood. For locals like me, it is a bit of an oasis on an otherwise underdeveloped section of E Burnside. In pre-COVID times it was packed seven days out of the week, which is always a good sign. The food is quite good and you can tell this is the type of place that cares about quality; as far as I can tell nearly everything is made from scratch. Standout dishes include the fish and chips, lamb burger, shepherd's pie, and Classic burger - which is fast becoming one of my favorite burgers in town. They also have a solid cocktail program. Their cozy bar/dining room has now re-opened for dine in, if that's your thing, and they have outdoor picnic table seating. Also great for carry-out! read more

We were invited to meet with friends, who live in the neighborhood after work meet at Tabor Tavern. What a comfortable, fun place. I got the happy hour fish and chips which were fantastic and the food everyone else got looked equally delicious. The folks working there were welcoming and friendly. I definitely felt mostly locals were there. I don't want to ruin it for them, but what a great place. I said this is like an American public house, not trying to be anything else. Was really wanting the fish and chips. Came here on a Saturday and the fish and chips and steak burger was not on the brunch menu. Two items we wanted to have. It doesn't say anywhere that it's brunch only on the weekend. Asked the waitress and she said yeah brunch only. I said "dang really wanted the fish and chips". She apologized which I appreciate. Her bloody Mary's are awesome, but we decided just to get fries and go elsewhere. As we are eating our fries they are bringing fish and chips to peoples tables. WTH!!! Pretty good place to grab a bite and some drinks. Customer service was great, the place is inviting and laid back. I really enjoyed my burger and my pineapple drink. Only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because they don't have very many vegan/ vegetarian options so my girlfriend who is a vegetarian didn't vibe with anything on the menu and just ended up eating fries. I seriously can't decide who has the best burger in town: Tabor Tavern or Killer Burger. They both have kick ass freaking awesome burgers. Tabor Tavern's bacon jam is out of this world. (Always buy a jar when there, or you'll be sorry.) As a neighborhood joint, it's *OK* food but there's lots of hit & miss items. Execution could be better. Primo dinner time it gets busy and loud. Sitting at the two-top tables it's hard to hear the other person. On different occasions, I've tried the mussels, chicken burger, butternut switch ravioli, fish and chips, turkey pot pie, mac & cheese. Best item - fish and chips. Size of your arm, that fish is. Worst item - turkey pot pie. When we first got it, it arrived cold. Yuck. When it was re-fired, it was hot but flavor was just not there. Additionally there wasn't much turkey and was mostly peas. Meh items - everything else. Service could be better. We either got dirty plates (for sharing items) or dirty glassware. I remember handing off some dirty plates last time I was there to a server but they never came back to give us new ones until we mentioned it much later. read more

The good: * The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. * The menu is diverse. * The food is fresh. * There is a small, private parking lot. The not-so-good: * The prices seem high for the portion sizes. * The food isn't remarkably good, but I've certainly had worse. * The parking lot is SO small that it is difficult to maneuver in. There are two "livestock trough" water tanks being used as planters surrounding and protecting the lamp post in the parking lot that are dented and crushed beyond belief. These are too low to see through most vehicles' back windows when backing out, so I had to have one of my passengers get out and spot for me because my vehicle doesn't have a back-up camera. Their condition suggests that they've been run into many times over the years. If you're in the neighborhood and want a quick bite, Tabor Tavern is a good bet. read more

We went here for lunch and we were not disappointed. The portions served here are huge and you won't leave hungry. I had the fish and chips and the batter-covered fish was huge, large enough for three people to share. I would have been satisfied with a piece half the size I was served. The fish tasted great, as did the mountain of fries and the peas that were also squeezed on the plate. I had a very pleasant red ale to supplement the meal. Street parking is available. Let's start with the good. The burgers were fantastic. I'd say it was a little heavy on the arugula, but how hard is it to take out a few pieces? They had great flavor and size, also they weren't over/under cooked. I had a New York Sour to drink and it was delicious We tried the cheddar biscuit fritters and they were pretty much hush puppies. We've been here several times with mixed results. At best, it's good but not great and at worst it's just okay, definitely not crave worthy. Let's start with what went well on the most recent visit. The side of fries were a hit and much better than they've been previously and the two sauces that accompany them are really good. The kale salad is pretty basic and while I wish it had more ingredients, it's fine. The crab cakes were a major disappointment. They are perfectly formed patty's which looked like they came from a factory. There isn't any panko or crumb on the outside to create a crunchy texture. Instead they were very mushy which is such a disservice to crab cakes. The Remolade sauce was surprisingly hot and didn't help the cakes. The lamb burger was just okay as well. Now for what was inexcusable, bad service. We had just sat down (no menus yet) and the server asked if we were ready to order drinks. At this time the restaurant is at best 50% full. We mentioned that we couldn't pull up the digital menus so she brought an alcoholic drink menu only which was not only presumptuous but we had our child with us so no options for the kid or me. Then the food took unreasonably long to come given every dish was prepped and only needed to be fried or grilled. We can forgive the wait but then when she brought another beer, it was only 3/4 of the way full. Her explanation was the keg ran out and then she scurried away. She didn't offer an alternate beer and she charged for the full one. The table next to us didn't seem too happy with the service either. read more

A prolific Yelper once mentioned that review updates that do not change the rating are on her "not okay" list. I'd agree with that ... most of the time. I returned to the Tabor Tavern, known as "the Tabes" to the "hey, wow, man" crowd, and was presented with a conundrum. Basically, I really liked what I had to eat. It was a late lunch/early dinner and I got a salad and some nicely dressed up and seasoned macaroni and cheese, and washed it down with a root beer. Have you ever had bland be very good, like those water crackers from Trader Joe's? That is how I felt about these two menu items. While bland, they had an interesting and fresh taste that kept me digging into them and cleaning them up in no time. That said, I wanted to bump this locale up to a 4. The conundrum that holds back a star is that the service was also bland, and it wasn't crowded. (I've had the service be about the same when it was crowded.) The Tabor Tavern may have a captive audience of both regulars and possibly folks who work at the big Providence Hospital within a mile or so of it, but that doesn't call for indifference in the service. The prices for these items were just slightly higher than what I think these items typically merit, but it's a somewhat nicer spot in a nicer area relative to other parts surrounding it, and, like I said, my happy hour meal was tasty and much better than bar food. Bump up the service a level. It's easier to smile than to wear a poker face. If the food and the service were aligned, the Tabor Tavern could easily be a 4 star sort of place. read more

Tried this place on Saturday, the ambience was cute and cozy, I would go here again on a date or with some friends. I had the crispy chicken burger, it was fresh but the sandwich was very plain for $15 + $1 for Gouda cheese added, I had a side salad which was a bit dry, I asked for extra dressing which I was charged for without being notified. My friend had the Kale Ceaser salad, the flavor was good but let me just say if you don't massage your kale before you make a salad out of it, it will be a rough texture and that's exactly how it was rough and very dry, super hard to eat. I was actually wildly impressed when I came to Tabor Tavern. I grew up in the area, and was excited to see Tabor Tavern come in and revamp the place. I've been to the Tabor Tavern for both brunch and dinner. Each time I've been there the food has always been impressive. This bar has a great warm atmosphere. The service has always been great as well. If you're there for brunch I highly recommend The Rev. This is a sandwich that consists of a fried chicken breast, cheddar cheese, egg, gravy, and served on a brioche bun. The chicken was fried to perfection and the gravy was a perfect addition. The only thing I didn't love on this sandwich was the brioche bun. It seemed a little dry for this sandwich. However, this was a great breakfast sandwich and I wouldn't hesitate to order it again. They also make a great Bloody Mary. For dinner you can't go wrong with their fish and chips. This is tempura beer battered Haddock. It was perfectly fried and not greasy at all, served with homemade fries. You also can't go wrong with their classic burger. Overall this is a great pub and the food is consistently great! It has a warm atmosphere, especially at night. They can be busy, so be prepared to wait. But give the Tabor Tavern a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

Tabor Tavern has an excellent happy hour. I came here on a Friday around 4pm and it got pretty busy, with a wait by 5pm. The bartender was always busy - it took a while for our drinks, but the food came pretty quickly. I also really liked the space and the wooden tables. It made me feel like I was sitting in a lodge and relaxing. The happy hour fish and chips ($6) were spot on and the mushroom arancini balls ($3 for two) were addictively delicious. The Mac & cheese and kale Caesar also looked great - definitely something I would come back to try. For dessert, we tried the beet Napoleon (not on the happy hour menu). Without knowing anything but the name, we would have expected layers of flaky pastry with beet and chèvre filling, but it was actually candied beet chunks with chèvre filled into the grooves. Wow. Came here for late night food and ended up eating the best thing I ate in Portland (so far). Beer was great, I'm not much of a beer connoisseur but I definitely appreciate a good IPA. Food was excellent! Ordered the golden beet salad and asked for no bulgar. Salad was hearty, dressing was light and flavorful, and Brussels sprouts and beets were plenty! Burrata on top looked sooooo good and the boy had some and loved it. I refrained from the dairy for the best interest of all who'd be around me for the rest of the night... hehe! Fish and chips, BEST IVE EVER HAD. Instead of making them like tenders, the whole fish was breaded in one piece so it was more fish than fried, which we loved.
