Few places I have been to that make you want to tell someone what they're missing. Leaky Roof is one of these spots. New Year's Eve dinner we strolled in with only a couple tables full. My gf had never been though we lived near for years. We got the onion rings to start and have never had rings like this. Their dipping sauce was super tasty. They were huge and almost a meal. The crunch on the was fantastic and the onions cut as you bit into them, not one pulled out. We split the chicken and waffles. Chicken just perfect and crunchy and the crunch is seasoned as well. One of those meals you shake ur head the whole time hoping the flavors won't stop. The portion was big and glad we split it. The waffle was crunchy and big. I had never heard of this little place but my fiancé took me here after the fair and it was so good! It reminded me of little pubs I went to when I was in school in Galway. I had the fish and chips, which was a massive portion and the strawberry mint lemonade. I'm currently pregnant so I couldn't try any cocktails but they looked great too. Eeehh, okay the coffee was good. The chicken and waffles was......mid? The chicken was a tad dry. This is kinda nitpicky, but I also thought it was bit too much breading. Normally, I don't mind some more breading, but I also felt it was a tad too hard and salty. The texture of the waffle was also......hmmm, not terrible, but definitely not the sort of crispiness I want. More chewy than crispiness even when I first got it. My mom had special requests as usual, and this waitress was very nice as well, but the joint was not as accommodating as some others have been. They did have egg whites, but when she asked for more vegetables, the waitresses implied that the only vegetable they could provide was zucchini, and it could not be changed because......that's what the chef decided? After she got her entree (egg whites, cheese and zucchini?), my mom complained that her scramble was tiny, but got way too much toast. Looking at her plate, I feel like she had a point this time. Visited for the first time since they revamped their entire menu. The expanded selection is a nice upgrade as before the few items they had felt very limited for the price. A big improvement was the new drink options. It was previously tough to stick around long due to limited options and high prices, but there seems to be a real effort to keep folks around now with some cheaper cocktails. Onto the food! Another change or maybe return to (?) the menu now resembles that of your average Irish pub. My wife had the Guinness stew which was delightful on the rainy day. I had the corned beef hash that was also very tasty! The atmosphere is nice and cozy as it always was and the service was kind. While there's things I may miss like the omelette of the day and the LR burger, the changes seem to be a step in the right direction. read more

This has that damp, cozy, "Old Portland" vibe that is, sadly, drying up in Stumptown. We came for brunch and this is one of those blue collar, hearty places to eat and chug that lacks that self-serious bright pretension of so many nuPortland places. Service was fast and friendly. It reminded me of an English pub. Greeted upon entry, handed menus and found a window booth. Small and quaint. The bar area is small maybe room for 4-6 people. Definitely looks weathered. Ordered beers and lunch. Ordered the BLT w/ avocado, ate the entire sandwich and most French fries! Delicious sandwich on sour dough. Big thick slices of bacon. The French fries were crispy. Because it was not busy our order came quickly. Staff member was friendly and not over bearing. Payment is via either directly to the staff or via an app. I elected the app! The unassuming outerior totally belies the cozy bar interior with homey booths, tables, and bar seating. Service was fast and attentive. Lovely coffee and food was also decent! Totally the place to be for a straightforward American brunch affair. The Potato Cakes, albeit being small, were full of flavors. Good balance of seasonings, bacon, and potatoes. Fresh ingredients too. Paired with runny eggs and they're scrumptious. The Monte Cristo was also good. Hefty serving of custardy challah bread filled with plenty of ham and stretchy cheese. My Cheddar Smash Burger was perfectly cooked and had a delicious buttered bun. This place was like Cheers Bar, lots of locals, we were definitely not greeted as warmly . The service was okay. Husband had a pastrami sandwich with sweet potatoes fries. The sandwich was good but the fries needed a minute or two less in the fryer (not burnt, just overly cooked and dry). My wife and I love this place. Everytime we visit Portland we stop here for the fish and chips and the whiskey flights. Wow. We popped in just before they got busy for lunch. Zero complaints. One super busy, fantastic person playing hostess, waiting tables and running the bar. They did a spectacular job as the lunch crowd began to grow. Food was amazing. A-MAZE-ING I say! I ordered the Bacon Bleu Burger with no changes from the menu. This burger was juicy, flavorful, and each item on their own had wonderful flavor, but when all eaten together, swoon worthy! The pub bun held up well as the juices increased with each bite. Hubby liked the Reuben and said you could tell the corned beef was fresh and was one of the best Reubens he's ever had-if not the best. The bread is toasted, the bacon is perfectly crispy and they gave me plenty of avocado. For my side I chose the Cesar salad. Hubby made reservations for the three of us here for dinner around 5:10 but got here early because we took public transportation to get here. We were seated at a booth by a nice lady who pretty much was the waitress, bar tender,etc. She was busy as the time came closer to 6 pm. Once we were seated, we were given waters. I also got myself an iced tea. They only carry Pepsi products which I dislike. I looked at the menu which wasn't too much to choose from but I decided to get the fish and chips. I wanted soup. They had veggie soup and she offered me beef stew so I got the beef stew. This was delicious. You can taste the beer that was cooked with it. The meat and potatoes were soft. The fish was tender. They used cod which is what I like rather than mahi. The French fries were seasoned well. The fries were crispy and cooked enough. Their famous ketchup is great. They bottle their own ketchup. Service was okay but I get our waitress was the one doing everything. I had asked for water refills and she gave use a bottle of water to share at the table. The food was delicious. Ambiance here is fine. There is a smell that kinda hits you when you first walk in, like a mix of really old basement mixed with BO. The server/ bar back was kind and attentive. I had a good, strong Spanish coffee. The food is good (I've eaten here before). This time I had the chicken and waffles. The waffles are very good, fluffy and have great flavor. The chicken is heavily breaded and very crispy, but VERY salty. So much that my tongue burned when I was done eating. My friend and I visited The Leaky Roof this morning for brunch. We both enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere here. The Leaky Roof has been in business since 1947. It is located on the corner of 16th and Jefferson in the Goose Hollow neighborhood of Portland. We arrived about 9:30am. We were warmly greeted and told to sit wherever we like. There were only two occupied tables at the time so we had our choice of seating. There are booths and tables with chairs. Shortly after we arrived, the place got busy, so visit early for best seating. Our server was pleasant and quick. My friend ordered the fried chicken Benedict. He said it was very good with moist chicken. I ordered the Florentine Benedict, which was delicious. We both chose potatoes for our side dish. The potatoes were crispy, almost like french fries and quite tasty. Our food arrived promptly with hardly any wait. There is a full bar with seating available at the bar area. The atmosphere inside is upscale casual. The booth seating is particularly private and intimate. There is a three sided fireplace for warmth. There are picnic tables out front for dining, when the weather permits. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Leaky Roof today. My only request is for more vegetarian choices on the menu. This is a great place to hang out when waiting to pick up your kid from extracurricular activities at nearby Lincoln High School. The food is generally good, but this time, I ordered the onion rings which were disgusting. I am a huge onion ring fan, but these were inedible. They were like funnel cake with an onion inside. Huge bulbous things. When you bite into the onion ring, oil gushes out. They didn't even taste good. I need a bath. Manager or Owner I don't even know who this disrespectful bald headed man was! He was completely out of line! He should go see a counselor for his anger issues. Back story on what happened here. We came to have some breakfast to this hole in the wall breakfast place. I have been here before and was never treated like today. We came inside to sit down at an open table. One of the waiters walked up to us and claimed that the table was reserved, my friend who comes here a lot said that he has tried to reserve a table in the past and was not able to do so. She didn't have an explanation for that but asked us to sit in a booth available at the other end of the restaurant. After waiting for service for about 30 mins, no waiter even batted an eye on us! We decided to get up and go to another place in the area. One of my buddies went back inside to address the situation with a manager, and all we hear from the outside is yelling to "GET THE F OUT OF HERE". Absolutely disgusting behavior. We were very civil and calm. Didn't deserve terrible service like this. All that my buddy asked the manager was why did they lack in service this time. I will never set foot in this establishment ever again. And I'll make sure the actual owner hears about this!
