So you order and sit but then they forget about you after. We saw the salsa bar and they were alright I guess below average. This is not a Mexican restaurant! Salsas were bland and watery, beans out of a can, rice-o-roni instead of real rice? Want more? This is the best, the enchiladas were made with some store bought El paso salsa. The meat was dry and not fresh, as if it was old frozen meat, yuk. This is an embarrassment to good authentic Mexican food. When I asked for the owners name I was told it was Joe, no last name. So Joe, I hope you read this and fix your food, the price you charge is a RIP OFF for what you provide your customers. Will never go back. read more

Meh. Very attractive. Nice staff. They also have a self-serve salsa bar with a bunch of varieties, which is cool, but not enough to overcome the glitches below, in my mind. My main complaint is the simple "carne asada" taco. That means GRILLED. Here (as at several other lackluster Mexican restaurants) they grill the meat and then leave it soaking--presumably in juices?--until it seems more boiled than grilled. Loses all the yum. Another problem is that they have rigid rules about toppings. It's either onion and cilantro or lettuce and tomato. But you can't mix it up. So you can get two steak and one chicken, but the topping on one is the topping for all. Not a bad meal, just not stellar. I'll continue to go to Brasas, on Roosevelt at Austin instead. The steak is freshly grilled, and you can mix your toppings as much as you want. I'll trade decor for that. read more

Just had bought three burritos from Tacabron horrible horrible. Steak is very bland no seasoning. To much lettuce not enough meat. Tortilla they use for the burritos taste like its store bought. I asked for no sour cream on all three of the burritos they put sour cream on two of them. No one finished their burrito. read more

The name.. haha SO good. And the tacos are pretty good! The pork ones are fabulous and I am not really a pork fan so that speaks loads. The portions are pretty big too I just wish they would add a bit more filling inside the tacos. read more

We are visiting from Texas and found this little treasure on Yelp. We ordered tacos, asada,carnitas and pastor and the taste was great. Parking was very convenient right in front. The price is just right for the amount of food. The only thing that keeps me from giving this place five stars is the fake tortillas. read more

Very cute spot that's only been open about 4 months. You can almost miss it passing by as it's kind of tucked in a small space on dark Harrison street. Delicious tacos and drinks! Wonderful new addition to Forest Park, excellent food with lots of options for your tacos or burritos. Some of the best tamales I've ever had! The little salsa bar is a nice touch. The staff there are really nice and friendly. I went the first week, they had a few issues with getting food prepared quickly but have since fixed that issue. Good food, and made fast and delivered within 30 minutes. Delivery is via Uber Eats, and not bad as it was a $5 flat fee. I forgot to request some sauces when ordering online, so I called them right after placing the order, and they were super accommodating and friendly, and added it. Asada tacos were awesome. Chicken tacos were decent (but I'm no a huge chicken taco fan anyway, so not sure why I ordered them), and the shrimp tacos were PERFECT. The only drawback was that I felt the rice and beans were on the lighter side of quantity. Otherwise, good tacos. Looking forward to dining in sometime. read more

We received a coupon in the mail for a free taco platter to this place (my neighbor gave me hers as well). Our first experience here had much to be desired. However because we received these coupons it was a perfect opportunity to give them another shot. My husband ordered two steak and one chicken taco, I stuck with all steak tacos. They got our order right this time :) The steak was tasty and tender, as well as the chicken. My husband felt bad getting free food and not ordering something, so he ordered a margarita. It was just OK, but at least it wasn't terrible like last time. They were playing Mexican music in the background which I think adds flavor to the atmosphere. Last time they had on what sounded like a radio station. this was a Sunday afternoon visit so I can't say wether they changed the bright lights or not. The lighting in there was just fine. We left satisfied and would go again...and we did! Our third visit was also in the afternoon. We again got the taco platters. My husband got steak and chicken like he did last time and I got steak and one pork taco. The steak tacos were good not great, and the chicken was tasty but quite dry. The pork, was pretty bland. They did get our order right this time as well as last time. This time, like last time, the pico de gallo didn't seem very fresh. Like I said it was lunch time, so you would think it would be fresh, well at least if they are Making a fresh batch every day. And quite honestly it's easy to whip up a fresh batch of pico. I haven't had mush good things to say about the salsa bar, so I guess I'm just not a fan of theirs (in my first review I went into detail about the salad bar). I will say they they now have pickled jalapeños and carrots diced up which is nice on chips. We actually did get chips this time, not a big fan of those either. I've only been there three times, but it seems like this is a hit or miss kind of place. I don't think will be going there for a while not to mention we have another place that we want to check out that is between our house and 22nd and Mannheim (that's our favorite Mexican joint and they have excellent pico de gallo and homemade chips!). Been wanting to check out this place for awhile and finally got around it to it. The first time, I stopped in to order guac and chips. I must say it was really tasty and had a nice spicy kick to it. I decided to order a couple of weeks later and try out their tacos and of course the guac and chips. Had 2 steak tacos. They were soooo little, I actually went back to the menu to see if maybe I ordered mini or kids tacos by mistake! Nope! The steak didn't have much flavor and was cold. On to the guac or so I thought. It tasted like an onion dip with a bit of avocado. So many huge chunks of onions and little of everything else! The chips were greasy but had a stale not so fresh taste to them! Unique and delicious! I am not ordinarily adventurous, but on my first trip, tried a taco platter with not only my usual chicken, but also grilled fish and ham & cheese. Yum on all three! The corn tortillas were not soggy, as I often get elsewhere, and it was just the right amount of food to fill me but not leave me uncomfortably stuffed. The rice and beans were even better than what I ordinarily expect from mid-range places like this. The margaritas were not what I expected--they were fabulous, not too sweet and surprisingly strong given the mild flavor! And the salsa bar is, as others have said, awesome--the hottest one is entirely bearable for Midwesterners like me, and it has an intriguing and delicious earthy flavor. This place is hit or miss. First time we tried to patronize them, we called ahead because we wanted to do take out. They left us on hold for literally ten minutes! Who does that? For that they got a 1 star review, then complained to Yelp and had the review removed. So I figured I'd go in and actually try the food since they are close to home. Tacos were wonderful and I loved the salsa bar. Figure that my first experience was just a bad night. Go in a few weeks later, order tacos, find a couple of bones mixed in with the meat. The people who say this place is amazing...I'm sorry you haven't had really amazing Mexican food. Go to Amigos Chinos on Lawrence. This is about the most mediocre Mexican food I've ever had. I've had better Mexican food out of a gas station in Stone Park (now they have their own restaurant Tacos Morelos in MP). It was edible but i definitely won't waste my money here again. Also they need to CHILL with the amount of sugar in the Horchata. I love a sweet horchata but I wasn't even able to drink this one. read more

It's so good! I agree with the other reviewers, this place is legit! The vegetable options are so good and fresh. If you're vegetarian as we are, just make sure to look under "meats" (why? I'm not sure) on the menu, as that's where you'll find the grilled veg option. Try the grilled veg instead of meat on the Nachos Especial. And the "guacamole salsa" is magical. SO good. Short Version: So good that I don't mind getting burrito sauce on my keyboard while writing this review. If all you're wondering is 'is it good', then the answer is yes and any more time you spend reading is time not spent eating at Tacabron Longer Version: This place is delicious - personally I was stoked about them opening up, since I'm right around the corner. After both Amelia's and Backyard Kitchen and Tap flamed out, I was wondering if we'd ever get a good restaurant at this location. Judging by how busy I've seen them though every day I get off the train, it hopefully seems like the third time's the charm. As for the food - it's delicious. They have legit classic steak tacos with onion and cilantro (though they also give the option for lettuce and tomato, if you prefer them that way instead), and their steak is cooked to absolute perfection - it literally falls apart, no toughness to it at all. The same goes for their pork and their chicken (I have not tried anything but those three so far). The bread for their Tortas are made fresh, (I know, since I went in one weekend a bit before the lunch hour officially started and the bread wasn't ready yet, so I had to 'settle' for an amazing burrito), and they have a great salsa bar when dining in (when doing carryout, they give you your choice of sauce to take home). Two weeks ago - I was eating vegetarian nearly 100% of my meals (the 'nearly' part due to relatives who don't understand the concept of not eating meat). Thanks singlehandedly to Tacabron... that ended up dropping to like 50% for the time being. That said, they also DO have a vegetarian option that I'm planning to try, since so far everything I've eaten then has been incredible. So if you're a vegetarian who's got better willpower than I do, you're covered as well. read more

Not impressed, and that's a shame because we were really excited to see a new Mexican restaurant in our area. We were a party of two on a Saturday, early evening. Very casual dining: You place your order, they give you a number, and you go find a seat. We ordered a torta with everything, and the 3 taco platter (1 pastor, 1 steak, 1 barbacoa). We had a choice of cilantro and onion or lettuce and tomatoes on the tacos. We asked for cilantro and onion on one taco, and lettuce and tomato on the other two. They said they couldn't do it because they were so busy, so we agreed and paid for our order. We found our seat in a half empty dining room (so, not so busy). It took them forever to bring out our order. Then we noticed some folks who ordered after us got their food first. We were not happy but waited for our food which arrived after a while. The torta was sloppily put together, but was fresh tasting. The taco platter had 3 very small tacos, warm fried pinto beans with some melted cheese, and some rice which bordered on cold. We were too hungry and didn't want to return our food. We helped ourselves to the salsa bar. There were several salsas, but we only tried these: green tomatillo salsa (ok), red salsa (meh), chipotle salsa (very good, and the best thing about this dinner), guacamole salsa (also very good), cascabel salsa (bitter, and in need of some salt). The meat in the pastor taco was mildly seasoned, but ok. The steak had little to no seasoning. The barbacoa tasted like plain boiled meat with no seasoning whatsoever. We had to douse two of our tacos in salsa to get some semblance of flavor. The restaurant was clean and simply decorated--it was comfortable. The service left much to be desired. Sadly, we were very disappointed in the food. Not a good value either considering the size of the tacos. Would we return? Not likely. For what they offer here, there are better taco joints in the area where you will at least get hot food at your table or it is wrapped well enough that it'll be very warm when you get home.
