My bf and I came here with his family for dinner. It was freezing inside, and they blast the AC on high. The servers are all attentive and the food comes out at a reasonable time. We ordered the eggplant hummus and the original hummus. Both were relatively good and didn't disappoint. The entree: 1. Chicken Kebab: Pretty good chicken kebab, but it was kind of dry. I made my husband drive all the way from NJ because a couple of my friends recommended this place. A big regret and I will probably not come here again! First of all, we had to wait an hour and 10 minutes just to get our entree. The waitress probably forgot to coordinate it, but when we kept asking where the food was, she finally replied "we had a big delivery order and they were working on that. They will start making your order now and will be ready in 2 minutes". That 2 minutes ended up being 20 extra minutes. What I don't understand is that how such a reputable place is unable to coordinate a simply work flow? Does it take an entire restaurant crew to prepare a delivery order? We dined here with a group of friends who were Brooklyn locals and they spoke highly of this place. It was my first time having Turkish food and I was stoked to try it out! I loved their Mixed Grill and even had some of my brother's Shish Kebabs. Good Lamb is hard to find and they did a really good job with the seasoning and the texture of the Shish Kebab. But it was the Lahmachun that captured my heart. Aka Lahm BiAjeen , aka what some of us in Syria call: Sfeeha. The mix of ground meat , spices and red pepper paste was heavenly and made me homesick. Our usual Turkish spot is Opera on Emmons but after several years of shitty service we decide to venture out of our comfort zone. It was a Friday evening and we had a party of 5. We waited about 15 minutes for our table, and it was so worth the wait. The salads, appetizers snd entrees were amazing!! So fresh and delicious. TERRIBLE! I am so disgusted and disappointed in the food that was sent to me today. We order lunch to my job a minimum of once a week. I was sent spoiled rice with mold in it. I asked to speak to the manager and the hostess said that he wasn't in. As soon as I opened my lunch there was a terrible stench. It smelled like windex or some kind of cleaning supplies. I have eaten here with my family and husband before, and recently (2 days ago) with my good friend Linda. They all love this place! They have two room ones for smaller parties and the other room for large parties. Our group had a total of 18 people and they did not have a problem fitting us all in. When you get there, they give you a basket of fresh soft warm bread. I've tried all the dip my favorite is still the hummus, taste homemade.I love their shepard salad with the feta. The calamari is good and also the sigara boregi which is cheese wrapped in pastry roll.As for the entree, they have a platter of mix meat in case you want to try a little of everything. I like the lamb chops, the kebab and the gyro meat. The portions are very large, most of the time I have to take it home.As for the dessert, the kunefe is delicious but requires 10-20 minute to bake. My Gyro over yogurt tomato sauce on the side very important by the way, was excellent . Perfectly charred, yogurt was a little cold so they took care of it and topped it off. Did the right thing. Food came out quickly while the place was jampacked which was pretty impressive. I really don't try much I stick to the Gyro but if you like Gyro this one is top notch. Tacis Brooklyn is the original but the original owner is now at the Forest Hills location and it is MUCH better than the Brooklyn location! This location has nicer decor but that is all! The original owner gave the Brooklyn location to his son in law. I do not know if he sold it or gave it never the less the original owner is not in Brooklyn any more! There are still lines to get in though. Our experience was the bread was cold, and the salad was good and fresh but we both got sick! We do not know if it was the fish or Lahmacun. But the fish was different at this location even though they told me it was the same. The fish here had sauce on it but not the one in Forest Hills. Not sure why maybe it was to cover up the fact that it was old? I don't know just a question. But all I know is we both got sick and the bread was cold. Tacis's on a Friday or Saturday night is as crowded as the F train at rush hour, but unlike the F train, the waiters set tables, take orders and get you your food at close to the speed of light! More important, the food is as authentic as you can get in Brooklyn. In fact all of my Turkish friends rank it as their favorite Turkish restaurant in a neighborhood that includes Sahara and some other very good places to enjoy Turkish food. If your cholesterol is under control, try their pan-fried calf's liver cubes. If it is not, hey that is what simvastatins are for! I usually order the Iskender Kebab which consists of gyro style kebab in a lightly spiced tomato sauce over pita bread with hot yogurt sauce. In addition to their meat and seafood dishes, save room for their extensive home made Turkish desserts. I know the guy who sells them their pistachios and walnuts (his name is Muammer), and he told me that they only buy the best quality ingredients! In a rush, take out a gyro...it contains almost enough meat to rebuild the cow! I have not yet been to Turkey, but why should I go when I can eat here for just a bus ride (though soon the MTA might be more expensive than the flight to Istanbul, but that's another story)! Wow. I had such high hopes for this place. So much so, that this is where I chose to go for my 30th birthday. Granted, it was just a meal between my boyfriend and I - not a huge party. Either way, I was craving Turkish food, and I was pretty convinced by the reviews that this place would be great. First disappointment - unlike other places in the area like Anatolian gyro - they don't include bread with any orders. That's a pain, but fine, I was willing to pay the $2.50 for one piece of bread. Sadly, it was stale. REALLY stale. It was hard as a rock, and it had to be thrown back in the oven just to make it somewhat pliable, and even after then, it felt microwaved - as though it was edible for 15 minutes, but any time after that it went back to be a hard-as-nails overcooked, stale, rubbery "I'm gonna be chewing this for 20 minutes just to swallow it" type of bread. What a disappointment. Especially since everything I ordered was to accompany the bread (which I thought would be fresh, and wasn't)." The hummus was absolutely delicious! On taste alone I'd give it a "5 stars", but the portion serving was nothing less than an absolute insult! It came in a small container, about 3 inches wide, and 4 inches long, and maybe 2 inches deep, but was only filled half-way. All things considered, if this place doubled their portions for the price, they'd definitely get 3-4 stars, but considering how small the portions are, and the fact that I ordered FOUR dishes off their menu, costing me $30, to split between my boyfriend and myself, and I completely finished all 4 dishes alone and was *still* hungry after that, leaving him with no food, where we had to order additional take out from somewhere else? This is my favorite place to take liver phobes. Because the Pan-Fried Cubes of Calf's Liver served with Sumac-Coated Thinly Sliced Raw Onion and Lemon Wedges will convert anyone. Even kids. If you're imagining cubes of meat, instead think tomato sauce-topped gyro slices served over yogurt mixed with toasted bits of bread. Trust me. And really, anything with lamb is a winner. Honestly, I have never had a bad dish and I have been eating here off and on for 15 years. One of the most consistently good restaurants in all of NYC, if you ask me. On any given Saturday night, the place is filled with boisterous diners, some of them egged on by their own generous pours of BYO-vodka. We squeezed the lemon juice on and packed it with marinated onions,herbs,tomatoes slices. It was delicious! The baked hummus with thin slices of cured meat was hot buttery salty goodness, ate it with pita and left over bread. They have plenty of entrees for you to pick and share. Entrees are big enough to share. I ordered the mix grill, so I can try every type of meat. The best one is the lamb adana, tender juicy and perfectly spiced. So happy to have found an amazing Turkish restaurant practically down the block from me! They have so many choices on their menu for you to choose from.. whether you decide to stop by for a quick snack or a full fledged feast, you can find it here. We started light with the Shepard's Salad- fresh chunks of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, green peppers dressed with olive oil and lemon juice topped with parsley and black olives. Continuing with the Lahmachun (the 5 pieces option)- a traditional dish of very thin layers of dough topped with a blend of ground lamb, tomatoes, parsley, garlic and onions. And last but not least, the Iskendar- gyro kebab in a lightly hot tomato sauce over pita bread served with hot yogurt sauce. All were scrumptious! The eggplant spread, the shepherd salad, the mushroom salad were so delicious and on point. I have no complaints about the appetizers. The chicken kebob, the lamb platter, the fish were all good dishes. I was upset that the chicken kebob and the lamb platter didn't come with rice when it usually does so we had to order a side of rice. I was off from work to take care of some business with my sister and being an avid fan of Turkish food, I made the slight detour to try out one of NYC's higher rated Turkish restaurants in Taci's Beyti. Set in the busy Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn, the first thing to note is that local parking can be difficult, so plan ahead or take the subway. Entering the really nicely decorated restaurant we were promptly seated. I scanned the menu and was quickly familiar with all the standard Turkish fare. My default dish is always the decadent classic Iskender Kebab so that's what I ordered. My sister ordered the Chicken Adana dish. To start off we ordered the grape leaf appetizer. The grape leaves were delicious with a pleasant texture from the fresh pine nuts and also some nice punch in fresh herbs like dill and parsley which were really pronounced. My Iskender Kebab was awesome and possibly the best variant of this dish I've had the pleasure of eating. The Gyro meat was so flavorful as it had a nice fat/meat ratio that imparted deliciously rich flavors. The gyro meat slices had a slight crisp charred edge which also enhanced the flavor. Prodigious chunks of buttery toasted pide bread were nestled under the generous portions of Gyro meat and a layer of richly smooth yogurt sauce. The tomato sauce had a pleasant tanginess which was paired nicely with the richer elements of the dish. Sister's Chicken Adana dish was good as well, but had an issue which I'll mention further in this review. The Chicken was amazingly moist, almost to the point of not tasting like chicken, but was nicely seasoned. This leads me to say that the Adana could have used some more time of the grill. Now to my main issue which I referenced to above. When typing this review and reviewing the photo I took of my sister's Chicken Adana, I noticed that the Chicken Adana dish she was served was on a bed of pickled white onions. Reviewing Taci's menu it mentions the Chicken Adana as being served with rice. Instead she was given a piece of Pita bread (just look at the picture). Not really realizing this when we ate, in hindsight, what happened? So while the food was excellent, I would say this rice malfunction was quite odd, and drops Taci's down a bit on my ratings. read more
