    Lamb gyro lunch special
    Shirley H.

Saw the lunch special and it captured my attention. I already ate lunch prior to ordering from them so I saved it for dinner. Walked inside and it was pretty empty with many tables. I got the lamb gyro with salad, rice and coke, but found out I didn't get a coke looking back at the menu. I lamb could use more flavor. The rice underneath was cooked with some kind of fat which made it flavorful, but also felt pretty greasy. The Turkish bread was tasty with the sesame seed and crispy top. I did find the portion to be small though.

Came in here following my stomach and I'm happy I came in. I was greeted immediately and followed the signs on where to order. The woman who helped nice despite some slight confusion on whether the lamb sauce had dairy in it. Looking around the inside looked very clean and it was decorated simply. It did make me want to sit inside, but I needed to go. Lamb was made fresh and it smelled good on the way home. The Lamb was so good and seasoned well. The rice was amazing & I wish there was more of both. The veggies tasted fresh as well. I want to give this place a 3.5, but Yelp doesn't do half's! If I'm in the area, I would definitely come back and get a large size !

Menu from Istanblue Kebab House. Our food was stale and nothing looked like photos in this menu. Most of our food ended up in the garbage.

After reading so many positive reviews we ordered over $100 of food from Istanblue Kebab House. Unfortunately everything was very old and tasteless. Lentil soups smelled awful and tasted like a dirty dish water. Bread was stale and very hard. Brown top pudding was absolutely horrendous! It had a hard rubbery coat on top and milky mush inside without any flavor. Chicken kebabs were also rubbery and hard. Needless to say most of this food went in the garbage. My husband and I had a pretty bad diarrhea that night and the following morning. I strongly urge anyone to stay away from this place unless you want a stomach bug and diarrhea.

The bread tasted extremely bland and tough. The meat was cold and they used the complimentary bread for the gyro as well instead of pita bread. The soup was awful, it tasted as though they used sink water to make it, it also lacked any color and looked very unappetizing. Overall a bad experience and the food was horrible.

Kokorec ve midye harika. Artik Brooklynden NJ'e gitmeye gerek kalmadi. Et doneri tadimlik verdiler, cok iyiydi. Super tasty lamb gyro, one of the best in brooklyn that I have ever tried. Def going back to this place!

Ordered on GRUBHUB for pickup and got the lamb gyro special. When I got there order was not ready and seems like they mixed it up but quickly went to make it when I showed them the order receipt. The food is pretty good but portion was rather small for the price. Rice was only filled on half side of the plate, a few slices of tomato a bit of lettuce but meat was a decent portion. Rice is flavored really well compared to other spots and lamb gyro was well seasoned and juicy. Would come back again but would look to see if there's a discount when I order because it's a bit pricy for the portion. People working at the counter were friendly and quick and overall restaurant was bright and clean.

    Chicken

Get the chicken or really anything juicy and spicy but the chicken is the best deal. Crunchy bits of skin floating in a mound of veggies and rice. No need for the pita.

Grand Opening Special Lamb Gyro Over Rice

Had a menu for Istanblue Kebab House on Ave J on our door today when I got home so we decided to try it for dinner. Ordered the cheese cigars, liver app, babaganush, I got a gyro sandwich in a wrap and husband got the gyro platter. The food was very fresh and delicious, and the babaganush was some of the best I've ever had. Also my picky toddler approved of the cheese cigars. My only complaint is that I asked for extra white and hot sauce and they only gave one of each, and didn't give any bread with the order. It's not expensive at all though and we have leftovers. We'll be ordering from here again for sure.

I ordered lamb chops rice and salad. The food was too salty. The meat did not taste real. Avoid this place at all costs.

Would recommend not sitting directly in the aisle in front of the door if it can be helped as it's a major traffic area. We started with bread and za'atar, ended up getting the shawarma pizza and wings. So much food that we had to take the majority of the pizza home. Everything was so flavorful, cannot wait to come back.

Arrived early for dinner and stood at the door for a while with no acknowledgment. There were only a few customers so not very busy. I eventually walked to the back and asked a server if I'm supposed to seat myself. I was finally seated and then another wait. Almost felt ignored... A server finally came by to ask my order but since it was my first time I asked for suggestions. I settled on the vegan platter ($24) so I could try a variety of items. I also got the Labne and Shay Ma Na Na ($8) (mint tea).. They also provide a complimentary pita, olives, and zaatar. The platter is large enough to share between two. The dawali (grape leaves) lacked flavor, thin in size, and not much rice inside. Typically they have a nice tang to them and have more rice filling. There is a salad of just greens and large onion rings. I'd suggest using the olive oil as dressing. Falafel and dip was basic. The labne felt like something was missing, maybe needed more salt/zaatar or lemon. The tea was decent but the traditional pot it comes in leaks. I mentioned this and was told yea it does. I was given paper napkins. The traditional pot looks cool, but leaves wet drops of tea every time you try to pour in a cup. I'd suggest something else to avoid a wet table. My table was also wobbling. While the server tried to add paper to even it out, it still wobbled. Ended up moving to another table. There is a restroom downstairs. No elevator. Overall, loved the artwork and look of the place, but the food and service could be better. Perhaps I'll return to try the desserts someday.

I ordered the chicken schwarma plate and falafel salad which were excellent - the fries were terrific and the overall atmosphere was to die for - it's a nice cozy space and the service was excellent The owner cares deeply about serving quality food at a reasonable price - they make challah bread over the weekends which sells out fast Definitely try this place you won't be disappointed

Israeli style with pickles, which I love. The chickpea soup was a standout. So flavorful and nourishing; definitely a nod to the sopa de garbanzos that I grew up with. The generous portion of labane is rich and complimented by herbs and an excellent olive oil. But it only comes with one pita! Personally, I'd prefer a smaller portion with more bread. Ok, first, let's be accurate about a few things. Etymologically, "batata" comes from the Spanish for "potato." This is a nod to "Sephardic" Jews, from the Hebrew word for the Iberian Peninsula (by definition, Spain and Portugal; after "expulsion," this came to include a diaspora more broadly northern African. In order words, western and southern European, not Eastern like Ashkenazi Jews.)

The eggs were cooked to perfection, the tuna was fresh and generous, and the coffee was so good I got another one to take with us on our walk through the park. I'd come back for the coffee alone, but I'm excited to try their curry bowls. Next time.

Usually the vibe is this: bright, airy, cafe featuring breakfast plates, many of them vaguely Mediterranean, with continuous additions made to the menu announced via large sign print outs taped up all over the walls and windows of the space. While he's tested out a burger spot, an ice cream concept, his most successful business has to be Cafe Madeline, directly next door to this here Atelier December. With Atelier December, and with Victorian Cafe over on Coney Island Ave and Cortelyou, he's pretty much replicated this formula with much success, as it was packed on the Monday afternoon I visited. Unique to this menu are the pancakes, which come in the flavors pistachio, hazelnut praline, lemon zest, and coconut. I opted for the coconut and it was the best thing on my table. The turmeric fried eggs plate I got sounded promising but was decidedly mediocre and way way oversalted. The cardamom latte was delicious. So some hits and one miss, but overall a solid cafe to get some work done, catch up with a friend, or to take yourself on a solo brunch date to.
