I've been here on several occasions for a quick drink before or after a meal in Sac. I haven't had a chance to dine in but I did try the smoked trout dip last time I was there and enjoyed it as an appetizer. The chips they served alongside it were tasty and very crisp! The service is always good here, they give you your space to chat but waters are always full and they come by often to check on you. I love that I haven't had to wait to be seated even thought I've always been a walk in. I've tried a variety of cocktails here all of them have been good. Tequila, dirty martini, and a whiskey cocktail from their menu have all been enjoyable. I only wish the martini olives were stuffed with blue cheese and that they served you more than one. read more

Came here for a birthday with a party of 6 and we basically ordered everything on the menu, and I'm glad we did. All the dishes were unique and flavorful, some spicy, some sweet, some savory. All amazing! Our server was funny and fast. She was on top of every request we had. The vibe of the restaurant was so incredible. Back in Sacramento for another weekend. Our last night here at the Hyatt and we decided to try the restaurant on the 3rd floor again. What I didn't know (from last review) was that the menu changes weekly. So the online menu is not correct. Thanks to our amazing server, Alex, this dinner experience was amazing from the time we sat down. She's been here for a few months. Her service was exceptional. She explained the menu set up, talked to us about the new chef team in the kitchen, and gave us her favorite meals on the menu. We decided to go for: The homemade cavatelli with sausage, sungold tomatoes, thai basil, pecorino romano, bread crumbs. The Kid gave it a 10/10. Rich and creamy with perfectly cooked fresh pasta! We shared the grilled prawns - skull island tiger prawns, shellfish butter, lemon, and parsley. I give those a 15/10. The shellfish butter has a smoky paprika, slight spicy kick. They were cooked perfectly. Almost had a lobster taste. Just needed more than 2 if sharing. I had the burger. It's not on the menu ever... but if you sit in the lounge you can ask about it. It's kind of a take on French onion soup with grilled onions, Gruyère cheese and a buttery brioche bun. The fries are freshly cut and fried crispy. 10/10. We finished our dinner with dessert- crème brûlée and a chocolate mousse with graham cracker crumble and torched French meringue. 10/10 as well (not pictured). The presentation on the desserts are beautiful. The plates remind me Lenox fine china and the gold spoons elevated it even more. The restaurant is a little on the dark side. Conversations can carry. They don't mind- just a heads up. My only "issue" was the hostess. A little abrupt and overall rushed. This time the service and food were excellent. 9/10 read more

We come here often for drinks. The lounge is located on the top floor of the hyatt house. Parking is valet or street. The bartenders are good. Price is on the higher side but the quality is there. My favorite appetizer is the fried olives. They pair perfectly with a cocktail. read more

This historic building is so beautiful and unique. Made reservations online is recommended for this lounge, since it can get packed. We came for some speakeasy drinks and the drink quality is okay, I've had more interesting speakeasy drinks elsewhere. So we decided to order the chef's charcuterie and it's delicious. I ordered the southeast drink and it's my favorite drink so far, since it's not sweet. The phoenix drink is too sweet for me, and tasted like a Moscow mule drink. Overall, we enjoyed this beautiful building, adds a classy lovely historic charmed atmosphere. We even signed-wrote inside an antique Star Lounge signature book found in one of the drawers on our dining table. Super cute vibe and experience here. read more

I'd prefer some lettuce, tomatoes, and onions on my burger but their take on it was still delicious. Their trout dip was also really good. We went for happy hour. Only a few other patrons. It's not easy to realize that you go through the hotel and then to an elevator which drops you where there's no signage that we saw on where to go. And then you still have to go up a few stairs. Not good for those with mobility issues. Also very hard to see as interior is dark but the windows are large with light pouring in so the contrast is hard. The cocktails and wine were ok but the food was meh. My best friend and I visited the Historic Star Lounge (located inside of the Hyatt House hotel) in Sacramento, CA on Friday, 1/31/25, around 8 PM. I discovered this place from attending the Yelp Event (Sacramento Sips) back in October 2024. As far as the specialty cocktail, I decided to get the Pom Reader. It had reposado tequila, Brucato amaro, pomegranate, lime, and cranberry spice. My best friend got the Krakow Salt Mine (vodka, apple cider, lemon, and sea salt). We both thought that our drinks were delightful and enjoyable to consume. The indoor ambiance was classical and gorgeous. I loved the dim lighting and candles throughout the entire place. The vibe was everything. The service was a miss during the visit, unfortunately. No one was available at the front entrance/host desk and we were never greeted either. We decided to proceed to the bar. Upon approaching the bar, the bartenders requested for us to move out of the way, as the area we were standing was reserved for serving drinks. We had to scout for another area at the bar. The staff members did not strive to make any proper accommodations for seating. It was a challenging situation. I love that the menu is not so extensive so it makes it much easier to be decisive about what you'd like to have. We had a girls dinner for the holiday, and there were 10 of us. I was a bit confused initially because I contacted someone for reservations a month in advance, and a young woman called me to tell me she could not accommodate my reservation, however I then received a call a couple days later and they were able to add me to the reservation which I appreciated very much. That was great customer service. Once we arrived to the restaurant we were seated immediately and our server was great and pleasant. Their food was amazing , 10 out of 10 and I will gladly visit for another meal. We order the NY steak, pork chops, halibut, pasta, salad, fried olives, duck mousse, trout dip , octopus, and the girls ordered a an array of drinks which they all enjoyed. I will say everything was absolutely delicious! I am normally not a fan of olives so the fried olives were not my cup of tea but my girlies who love olives enjoyed it. The only down part of the experience that didn't make it to the 5 stars was that the food was served so quickly! Had heard about this place and how cool it was so we were eager to try it for a date night. We found street parking fairly easy and walked up the stairs to the 3rd floor of the hotel. It's a dimly lit restaurant with great ambiance! We had made a reservation in advance and were seated fairly quickly - we sat on the side opposite the bar, although the bar side looked a bit more lively. The host or maybe the manager seated us and said our server would be with us shortly, but it took almost 20 minutes for her to come and ask us what we wanted to drink. It seemed like she was one of the few servers working, but it was not a great start to the meal. They had a list of wine bottles that were on super sale (final few) so we ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir for only 45 dollars followed by the beet napolean (beet salad), the Coq Au Vin (chicken), and the potato gnocchi bolognese. The beet salad was delicious with the whipped burrata and the coq au vin was pretty good too. Unfortunately, the gnocchi was not what I was expecting. It was a decent portion size but it had this weird smoky flavor to it. There wasn't anything pointing to the fact that it would be smoky and if I had known that I'm not sure I would have ordered it. We would consider going back for drinks with friends, but I don't think I'll be going back for dinner anytime soon. read more

A star is born! What a lovely venue located in the heart of midtown in the historic building that is now occupied by the Hyatt House Hotel. Diners tip: reservations are a must. There are numerous special events throughout the year and they are definitely a must try. The dinner that we attended was a special event, and everything from start to finish was lovely. The cocktail hour was a fun chat in mingle with new friends, and the host of the event. The caviar and champagne were an absolute special touch that made the stars come out and sparkle. The lounge is located on the third floor, and once you step through the doors, there is a lovely level of intimacy and warmth that you will feel. We were able to be seated near the band and it felt like we had our own personal concert. The numerous different types of adult beverages, including champagne really kicked the evening off and kept the fun flowing. Most of the meal was tasty and enjoyable. For a pricey meal, and I do mean, pricey, I don't think the cost and the quality were aligned. The flavor profiles were off in each one of the dishes and it's definitely not something that I'd want to have again. However, because I enjoyed the space and the customer service was impeccable, I would definitely want to go back just for that experience. The corn chowder which was served with chorizo, was completely off, balanced. The soup was cold and tasted like it had just been pulled out of the refrigerator, and the chorizo was a little overdone and slightly salty. The "steak salad ", was an interesting layer of textures and flavors. We were told that the meat had been smoked, but it tasted more like something that had been sitting and smoked flavor and not actually placed on a smoker. The meat was very tender, but I didn't care for the flavor whatsoever. The salad/veggies were an odd combo. The veggies were undercooked, and the cold components of the salad weren't cold. The croutons look like little heels of a loaf of bread in the flavor. Profile of everything combined just did not make for a tasty bite. Dessert for me was a biggest disappointment. It was labeled as banana cream pie, but it was a couple of slices of over ripe bananas on a crumbled vanilla wafer, and some funky whipped cream topping. I'm not sure what the thought process was, but I actually did not finish the dessert. Yes, it was that bad. A lovely location, and lovely staff. It's definitely worth a visit just to feel transported to a European experience. read more

I recently booked a reservation for my best friend's birthday. We spent weeks looking over different places and ultimately decided on star lounge because of their unique menu and moody ambiance. While making the reservation I specified it was for my friend's birthday. I put in a special request for her to have happy birthday written when dessert came out, and a candle if possible. All of this was done a few days in advance so there was plenty of time to inform me if this was not possible (mind you I read reviews stating that other people had this done for them). Prior to arrival I called and asked if we could have a table near the window and was told that it shouldn't be a problem. The day of, we arrived with 10 minutes to spare and the host sat us right next to the steps. I asked if we could sit at the table next to the window and she glanced at their tablet and said unfortunately somebody else had it booked. No big deal, we were just excited to order drinks and try their flannery steak. For appetizers I ordered the tuna carpaccio and she ordered the smoked trout dip. While her dip was decent, my tuna carpaccio was definitely not okay. If you know me you know I love my tuna and have had plenty of different styles of carpaccio. This one in particular smelled awful and was completely over salted. I was expecting a tart bite from the yuzu and a balance of fresh shiso.... Instead I was met with the taste of old tuna masked behind over salted vinaigrette. I couldn't even taste the avocado and cucumber! Next, we ordered two drinks. My friend got the ready set bloom and was unimpressed by the comoz vermouth, but omitted that she was trying something new. I ordered the shiso fresh and was pleased with the balance of sweet/herbal tones. However, my tuna carpaccio left a scent at the table that kept reminding me of a fish market dumpster. No exaggeration. It smelt horrible. By the time our steaks came out I was so put off by the smell that I didn't even finish my main course. The steak was cooked to perfection so it was a shame I didn't get to enjoy it the way I wanted to. Our server, Jacob, came over upon flagging him down and we asked for two boxes. He offered to box them for us and we placed an order for desserts. The crème brûlée was great and the affogato was decent.... But you know what they didn't do? Not once did they mention my friend's birthday. They failed to follow any of the requests I had communicated in advance. Not even a happy birthday as they dropped the dish off. The whole point of this was to make my friend feel special and enjoy a planned dinner. After dessert our server Jacob came up and informed us he was headed to break and that someone else would be assisting us (whoever that someone was she never once stopped by our table). I tipped him because even though the overall food experience was mediocre and my requests were never done, he was kind and at least came to check on us. Jacob leaves and we are stuck waiting for someone to approach us with the bill. Not a single server came to our table after 20 minutes, desserts gone, drinks empty, just us looking at the staff talk at the bar. Finally a woman, whom I assume was the manager on shift since she was not wearing all black, started to meander around tables. We made dead eye contact from across the room and I put my hand up to get her attention and she turned around and walked the other direction. Checked on every table except ours and when I finally blurted out excuse me she approached our table with a look as though we were burdening her. I asked for the check and she returned quickly with the bill. I immediately pulled out my card, but waited another 10 minutes before I had to speak up again for her to charge us. We just wanted to leave. Overall we were disappointed with our experience and I would suggest finding somewhere else to celebrate any special events. I was going to say this is definitely a place you stop by for a glass of wine/a cocktail and maybe dessert.... But now I have food poisoning and I am 100% positive it's from the carpaccio. I have had nothing else to eat in the past 48 hours because I am literally sick to my stomach. The day of I hadn't had anything to eat beside a banana, oatmeal, and my coffee. If this pain continues I will be reporting the lounge to Sacramento's County Environmental Management Department. read more

Service was very good, and the two musicians performing this evening completed a warm, relaxing ambiance.
