We walked in and were instantly greeted and the staff were super friendly. I got the carne asada burrito. Absolutely delicious and was everything I wanted. Lobby is clean. Been in lakeside a couple years now and the struggle to find good taco shop is real. I'm hoping my search is over with taco Azul.....I had the burrito and taco just cause I needed to try the blue tortilla. I always try the asada whenever I try a new spot, if they can't get that staple right then there's no point on going back. The burrito was great......the tortilla tasted really good, a lot of places around lakeside have these flour tortillas that have almost a sheen to them, that's not good. The meat had a real backyard grilled flavor, the guac was great. The taco was just as good, the food overall tasted like I went to an uncles house for a carne asada only thing I was missing was a beer but that's not their fault haha. Will definitely go back and explore the menu a bit more. read more

This place is a hidden little gem!!! The food is fresh and generously served and you get what you pay for! Susie at the counter is friendly and super funny and everyone in the back coming knows what they're doing! They have freshly made aqua frescas and they're not overly sweet. The food is just amazing! My husband got the milanesa torta which was fried perfectly and served generously. My blue taco plate was freaking the best I've had in a very long time! I felt like my abuela was back there cooking it up. The surf and turf was perfect in every way possible. I wish I could eat more to try everything but I'll definitely come back, it's been ages since I had any blue corn tortillas they're healthier for you and more nutrient rich in case you were wondering it was something the Hopi tribe introduced to us. I do deliverys and run a bunch of orders from this place so it made me curious to try it. I had to try the BLUE TACO and it was tasty. The fried fish was my favorite. We had tacos de pulpo, pescado and lengua. All of them were terrific. Staff is friendly and you can see the cooks making your tacos. I don't know why it is, but tacos (aka street tacos) California side are good but just slightly miss the mark. They just don't taste like the ones made in the Mexican taquerias in Baja. However, this place is pretty darn close. The tacos don't have all the superfluous fixings that are common over here. Their street tacos (small ones) are a dollar each. Regular sized tacos with your choice of yellow corn or blue corn tortillas are $2.95. They have other items on their menu: tortas, quesadillas, and chilaquiles which we'll have to try another time. Overall a good experience and we'll be coming back to try other dishes. read more

I have my favorite taco shops in San Diego that I frequent, and this one is my new place! My hairstylist is next door and before my appointment I stopped in. The staff that helped had been there for a few months and gave me a history on the blue corn tortilla that is their signature menu item. It's clean and the aroma of Mexican spices cooking is making your mouth water. It's Taco Tuesday so she encourages me to get the blue street taco for $1. I also ordered a California burrito with carnitas instead of the regular carne asada and , wow was I impressed! Needless to say I was stuffed because obviously I ate the whole thing! So, I start this review with the disclaimer that this restaurant is owned by a friend of one of my clients. That means they probably get an extra star because I'm going to be nice My first time in, I had three of the blue tacos. They were fresh and tasty but the hand-pressed tortillas were a little bit on the soft and thick side. This morning I stopped in for a breakfast burrito because I was out of tortillas at home. We all know that eating out is expensive so this $10 burrito I could have gotten for $7 a year ago. I ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito which comes with eggs, chorizo and potato. I asked to add a little beans to it and they wanted to charge me $2. $2 for a scoop of beans? Pass. I know how much food costs and I know how much it costs to run a restaurant. But let's get reasonable on the cost for adding sides. I may go back again but it won't be for breakfast. read more

Great tacos & Burritos. Been here a couple times lately after hearing good things. A week or so ago, I had a fish taco & shrimp taco on blue corn tortillas, on a plate with rice & beans. Both were excellent & cooked perfectly. The blue corn tortilla was not doubled up & fell apart almost immediately. But I didn't care. The tacos are so delicious. Great little restaurant, not many places to sit, but totally worth eating here I had the Chile Verde and the meat was super tender and the sauce tasty, not spicy at all.. which it could have been, but delicious just the same. My friend had the Chile Relleno and Enchilada combo and was very happy. They had made a mistake and made 2 of hers, so they gave it to us as well!
