While I was in Lakeside, I popped into a 7-Eleven and couldn't help but notice a little taco shop next door called Taco Azul. From the outside, it looks pretty unassuming, but step inside and it's a whole different story--a small, spotless spot with a surprisingly expansive menu. They're famous for their signature blue tacos, made with vibrant purple-blue corn tortillas (they even have a cool photo and explanation on the wall showing how they're crafted). I didn't dive into those this time, though. I went with a classic street taco, a fish taco, and a chicken taco--and wow, they were fantastic. The fish taco hit that perfect balance: crispy on the outside, juicy and tender inside, leaving me immediately wanting another. The chicken was solid too. Even the lime slices on the side were plump, juicy, and full of bright flavor that paired beautifully with the fresh fish. For just $1.50 each, the quality was outstanding. I wasn't even hungry when I walked in--I just stopped by on a whim--but I'm definitely heading back soon to try more from the menu (especially those blue corn beauties). I've been coming to Taco Azul for about two years and have usually enjoyed my experience. I want to give credit to the cashier, who was very patient, especially since it was difficult to hear due to the loud music coming from the kitchen and other music playing in the dining area. Unfortunately, the food quality was disappointing this visit. The tacos were served on cold tortillas, which took away from the overall experience. This isn't the first time I've noticed a decline in quality when this particular cook is working. I've been wanting to visit this Taco Shop in East County for some time now. They offer a great breakfast special in the morning. A $5 breakfast burrito which comes with you protein of choice, eggs, cheese, and fries. I was told potatoes initially, but not fries. I would have axed the fries if I had known that. I prefer regular potatoes, not French fries, in my burritos. I removed the most I could. At any rate, the burrito was of good size and tasty. It came with a very good amount of eggs and chopped ham. Both were very tasty. They used a good quality flour tortilla and offered good hot sauces too. It was quite filling. I do which however, that they would use real chopped potatoes in their burritos instead of French fries, but that just me. The service was very nice. The young lady at the counter was very nice and informative. The place offers a few tables on the inside. No outside seating. read more

Disappointing. Had the blue pulpo taco, blue tongue, and blue carne asada. The blue tortillas were just ok. The octopus was completely overpowered by the mediocre white sauce. The carne asada was flavorful but overcooked, and the tongue tasted old. I had a chile relleno and it was not good. My wife had the cochinito pibil bowl, but it did not match the description from the website, and she did not like it. The avacado salsa was flavorless and was not at all spicy. This place is a legit small taco shop in blossom valley . They off an amazing bargain of 99 cent street tacos . You can pick any of their meats . These tacos are small , but packed with flavor. I've tried everyone of the meats and they all are delicious! I've also had a half order of their Al pastor fries . You can't go wrong when ordering them . Such a great value and also delicious. I love their avocado salsa . It's amazing !! Their red salsa is really good too . The young lady taking the orders is very friendly and also makes sure my order is correct . They are not skimpy with the meat either The seating area is small but can accommodate 4 tables with 3 chiars and a window long bar like table that can seat 4. This is a perfect place to get food and enjoy a dinner date at Flinn Springs County Park down the street (hidden gem) just 3.00 to park but makes for a perfect date, kids out, or a romantic dunner date by the running creek. We really wanted tacos, we order 5 shrimp tacos and 2 alpastor street tacos. The alpastor was below average but the SHRIMP tacos were a HUGE disappointment! (we order them with pico on the side) The tacos were pretty much $4 but they were super small! Five measly cold shrimp inside of a big cold tortilla, the flavor was not good at all (not the deep fried kind, bummer) and the shrimp tasted a couple days old.
