I came here on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. I had the birria chilaquiles which were not only delicious but a generous portion. They also offered bottomless margaritas for $30. I went with the regular margaritas which were very tasty and the right amount of alcohol for an afternoon meal.
Returned for a drink and some apps with a friend. Everything was really yummy. The drinks were nicely presented, refreshing and tasty. Cheers to Taco Azul
Awesome food with very consistent quality every time we eat. We have been coming to this restasince they opened and we have had burritos, tacos, birria, soups, margaritas frozen or on the rocks and they deliver and extra ordinary experience every time. The wait staff is always very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu items. We love the food and the ambiance! Tonight we tried the seafood soup which is a new item on the menu and the chicharrones, both were extremely good. We had a family orser of tacos with an assortment of fish, al pastor and chicken pozole. Of course we ordered pina coladas and margaritas! I can hang out at the bar and drink all afternoon with my buddies!
Came in late night with a party of 5 and we were well accommodated. The decor is beautiful and the food was excellent. We all had options ranging from vegetarian to fish options. The mushroom Gordita was filling and the salmon tacos were delicious. I had the mole Amarillo which was light not spicy at all and paired with the juiciest chicken breast. Next time I want to try the mole rojo. If you're looking to try something new cocktail wise I opted to get the mezcal paloma but spicy version which was fantastic and strong. The dessert was perfect and my favorite was the passion fruit mousse. I want to come back to have Brunch. 10/10!
My friend and I had a weekday dinner at Taco Azul. We easily got a seat around 8:30pm. We had a booth seat, which sadly was one of the most uncomfortable booths I've sat in in a long time. But the chill ambiance and good food made up for it. The sauces are really the stars, including the hot sauce. (The hottest one is very hot, indeed!). I really liked my Baja fish and carnitas tacos. They were a good size for the price. I'd perhaps skip the $5 salsa and chips, as the salsas were kind of meh. I'd also probably skip the rumchata Pina colada, which was a bit too sweet and not enough rum, but I was dazzled by the drink menu options.
Met my friend here one evening on a Tuesday. We got there late, and were perhaps only one of 3 tables at that time. We got sat in a booth and the booth was very uncomfortable. I could actually feel the springs underneath my bottom which tells you all you need to know about those. The food (for the most part) was a hit, though. We got chips and salsa (this was a miss, the chips were great, but the salsas were meh) - I'd probably get the nachos next time instead. We also shared cheese enchiladas with mole sauce, and the mole sauce definitely had a depth of flavor. I could taste the nuttiness and it was pretty good - these also came with black beans and rice which were delicious! I also got a baja cauliflower taco which I really enjoyed with their chipotle sauce. I got a horchata which I always love. I ended up ordering delivery from here with my husband a week or two later because we wanted Mexican food and I was curious how it would travel. My husband got a baja cauliflower burrito bowl, and I got the baja cauliflower taco, again. We also shared a cheese enchilada with the red sauce which, again, came with rice and beans. I have to say it all traveled really well, and my husband really liked his burrito bowl. This place was good, but I wish there were more true vegetarian options. Not vegan options, but vegetarian options. I definitely want to go back and try the nachos!
Been craving for some good tacos. Tried the carne asada and Baja tacos. So good. Highly recommend and def will come back to try others. The chicken quesadilla was ehh. It was just shredded chicken in tortilla, I don't think there is any cheese in either so it was a bit boring. But the guac and chips were really good! Def recommend a must try and highly recommend the tacos!

I had their lunch special, chicken burrito with chips and salsa, Jamaica (hibiscus) Agua Fresca and their guacamole and chips. Their hibiscus drink was definitely on the sweeter side, but still very refreshing, and their guacamole and chips were soo good. Their guacamole was creamy and the chips were thick enough that it didn't break when scooping up the guacamole. The chicken burrito was a bit rice heavier than I expected, and I did wish it had more flavor, but for the lunch special, it wasn't horrible. I did find that I had to scoop a spoon of guac onto my burrito each time I took a bite because it was so dry. Overall, I think it just an okay meal. It was fine for a lunch, but I really wished the burrito had more flavor and it was less dry. I haven't had any other items on their menu, so this is just based on my experience with their lunch special.
TLDR: Taco Azul is a local neighborhood Mexican spot in Whitestone. Tasty apps and some great salsa. Steak nachos, quesdillas are solid and lots of taco/tostada options. Taco Azul is one of the better spots in the Whitestone & Bay Terrace area. The portions are generous so make sure not to overorder. I personally like the steak nachos. They're crunchy, cheesy, juicy steak, lots of toppings. Ask for the habanero sauce fore extra hear to cut through the richness. The chicken flautas are also great. Crispy fried tortillas packed with chicken and cheese. There's a whole lot of mix and matching that can be done with the tacos. Pick flour, corn or blue corn. Tortilla or tostada, etc. The quesadilla is solid and the enchiladas are saucy, filling and packed with protein. For tacos my favs are the fish taco and chorizo.
I've been following these guys since they were at that small spot on Clintonville and probably ordered from them once every few months. This was our first time actually sitting down in this restaurant and eating, though (I know, I'm a homebody). From the cool light fixtures and intimate bar area to their Frida Kahlo neon quote, the place definitely gives off cool vibes. Service is really friendly as well; when the staff talks to you, they do it with a smile on their faces. Wifey and I weren't too hungry, and I was just in the mood for nachos, so we figured we'd stop by to grab a quick bite. We ordered the nachos with chicken and a burrito salad with steak. Nachos: The tortilla chips were definitely thicker, so they could probably travel decently for delivery or pickup. The toppings on the nachos were nice and fresh. My only criticism is that the nachos at the bottom don't really get any love. It would be nice if they put some chips down and threw some cheese on there or something. Burrito Salad: Pretty good. The steak was seasoned and cooked nicely. The beans and rice definitely added some nice flavors as well. Overall, a pretty good spot. Check out their sauces too. In my pictures, they go from the least spicy on the left to the spiciest on the right. Even though we can't handle too much heat, the spiciest one on the right is the best tasting. Our server even offered to give us some to take home since she saw us enjoying it so much.
Decent tacos, I ordered horchata, chips and guacamole, two chicken tacos and one fish taco. It's okay to say the least nothing too crazy about it. The chips and guac were $12, I definitely wouldn't recommend; the chips were hard and it tasted stale. It has a nice ambiance and the service was nice, but that's about it.
Portions are just right and service is attentive. Prices are reasonable for what you get. Being from the west coast, I have been having trouble finding decent Mexican food in the area and this place is satisfying so far! Looking forward to trying more items from here. There is metered parking in front or you can find neighborhood parking a couple blocks down. read more

The food was soo good and our server was so kind! Also it's a very cute spot! My favorite was the flautas for appetizers and the tacos (specifically the carnitas and carne asada ones). They also have a large variety of margarita flavors (on the rocks and frozen) and different flavors of rims. I definitely will be returning! read more

My friend and I met up at Taco Azul for dinner on a weeknight. There weren't too many tables, but they seem to make up for it with takeout orders. We shared the Nachos with Steak and both got tacos. The nachos were a bit cold, but otherwise fine. The tacos were great. Service was quick and friendly. Parking is easy - lots of metered street parking and a lot behind the restaurant. read more
Ordered takeout via Yelp/Grubhub & was able to pickup before the estimated pick up time! We ordered the shrimp taco, baja fish, al pastor, carne asada, fries & shrimp ceviche & horchata. For all the items, there was a good amount of meat in all of them. Shrimp taco, Baja fish, shrimp ceviche - would order again Horchata - would not order again. It tasted weird to me like watered down. The carne asada and al pastor was a little bit dry but the al pastor had good taste. The fries were ok but I'm sure it would have tasted better if it wasn't for takeout. read more

I've come to Yelp to tell the world that I found the best seafood taco delivery in all of NYC. One of my friends decided to order 40 tacos for a small gathering and we thought this was too many tacos. Turns out the tacos were amazing and we finished them all. Top three tacos from Taco Azul are the shrimp tacos, fish tacos, and carnitas tacos. The shrimp tacos come topped with sweet mangoes and tomatoes. The fish tacos are lightly fried covered with chipotle sauce with pickled cabbage and avocado dressing. There is no better restaurant that offers delivery of fish and shrimp tacos than Taco Azul. Like some other Yelpers, I have ordered taco delivery countless times and every single time, it is 10/10 highly recommend Taco Azul. read more

I stopped by in person as i was running errands around the neighborhood. I was the first person of the day, service was just starting and even then they were still timely. Theres a lot of food options on the menu, i went with the wings (i chose not spicy) and they were good, although didnt come hot. I also had the corn elote which was my favorite, wish i got a full cob. The last thing i had was the chicken quesedilla, very good and authentic. Lots of chicken, which i was impressed with. I needed a little sauce inside to keep everything flavorful. overall good place, clean inside and staff are very friendly. read more

My number 1 go to for taco delivery/take out. The quality is by far the best in the neighborhood. I can't even count the number of times I've ordered from here in 2020 and 2021. They don't skim on the ingredients and they give you a nice dollop of guac. Delivery can take a little bit long, so if you drive, I recommend just picking it up. I always have to reheat my food when it gets delivered :(. If you're gonna choose a sauce, forget the others and just get the chipotle Mayo!!! You won't regret it. My favorite order is always their carne asada. I've tried almost every taco on the menu (multiple times to give them a fair chance), and I gotta say, their carne asada is chefs kiss. It's probably their best taco (excluding the special tacos) in terms of flavor and how tender and juicy it is. Al pastor was drier than I'm used to and sooo salty. The chicken was similar to the carne asada but a tiny bit saltier. The lunch special comes with one side and one drink. Unfortunately, they forgot our drinks the last time, but it's alright. It was too much trouble to call them back and have them deliver it again. The habanero shrimp and fish tacos are great to splurge on . Over all, great experience!! Might be on the pricier side, but they really stuff those tacos. read more

Classic Mexican style. Very tasty and a great variety of spices which is a nice touch. Waiter was very nice and despite the fact that I had a can of soda he kept my glass of water full. Great $11.95 lunch special of 3 tacos(each one a different kind) which includes rice and beans. I'll definitely be back! read more

We love taco azul... the new location is even nicer than the old one. Staff very friendly and welcoming, place is very clean and comforting. Food is awesome. We went with a group of 7 ( 4 adults and 3 kids ) for lunch. Everything from the tacos, burrito bowl, guacamole was delicious and super nice presented. Prices are good for the area but the $15 lunch special cant get topped by anyone around here. Protions are really generous. We will be back and we highly recommend this place ... read more

I normally love going here. Their shrimp and fish tacos are really tasty along with their guac and chips and agua frescas. However, the restaurant moved to a new location, closer to a town's center. I knew there would be some delays and confusions since it had not been long since they have moved. We as a part of two ordered guac and chips and some soda. They came about 5 mins after we ordered. The problem was our main dishes took almost over an hour to arrive at our table. We asked multiple servers about the eta of our food. " in a little bit" "in 6mins", another 15 mins passed and the food finally arrived.... I understand if you like tacos but if you dont have life's time to wait, don't come here. I have been coming to this restaurant for two years. I ordered drinks to go and the guy that made my drinks filled it 1/4 of the cup. when I asked him why he had an attitude and was very rude about it. He said that that is how the drinks come, but I have been ordering them to go for a while now and they never fill it. It is always filled to the top. I explained to him that I was here during the week, and I even spoke to the person that helped me during the week when I also got drinks to go and food, he said he wasn't sure why it was filled up that way, and the guy that helped me and he simply walked away from him. This is very rude and unprofessional. I will not be coming here anymore. Very rude. read more

I had been meaning to try this place since they were at their original location. I'm so glad I did! First of all, it is absolutely adorable inside. So bright and colorful with beautiful artwork on the walls. A delight to eat at. The servers are always so nice and with all my big taco orders they've never gotten anything wrong! Their food is fantastic. The birria tacos with cheese and cosome are absolutely delicious and my go to whenever I'm dining in. I absolutely love their tacos and for a while was order them once a week. Their ingredients are so fresh and high quality. You can tell they put a lot of love and care into their food and customer satisfaction! read more

This place is my absolute favorite spot around me. The salsa are always fresh and the meat always taste so good. I have ordered from this place three times on seamless and never have been disappointed with their food. I always order the Baja fish taco and chicken taco. I haven't tried anything else from their menu but those two items are especially well made. They fill up the tacos with big chunks of fish, guacamole, purple cabbage and add radishes and limes on the side. I especially enjoy their mango sauce, it is always super fresh. My girlfriend and I were in the mood for some tacos. Since we were in the Whitestone area, we decided to go to Taco Azul. Establishment had a very nice ambiance. They had a small bar with mostly Tequilas, the wall by the kitchen was decorated with Elotes glued to the wall which I found pretty cool. Our server was extremely friendly and very courteous. I ordered a Mezcal Paloma which was very good, it was the perfect balance of Mezcal and Grapefruit flavors. We ordered Chips & Guac for an appetizer. Then I ordered Al Pastor, Baja Fish, Carnitas and Cheese Tacos. All tacos were packed with flavor and the seasonings complimented the entire meal. read more

Taco Azul's new location has been open for about 10 months so we decided to check it out. This location has a decently sized dining area with plenty of seats and bright colorful decor. We ordered the birria tacos with the beef consume. The meat was super tender and delicious. The beef consommé was amazing, it tasted like the broth from a good beef noodle soup. I wanted to drink the whole bowl. The Baja fish was fresh, crispy on the outside, and moist and flaky on the inside. The carnitas and al pastor were good as well. I have to say all of the meat was tender, not hard or chewy like some other taco places. We also ordered the esquites, but they were just ok. They have other dishes like enchiladas and mole so definitely going to go back to try them. They also have a bar and you can order a customized margarita with different juices and salts which is pretty nice. The staff was super friendly and made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend it for some of the best tacos in northeastern queens. read more

I love this place! To start, the interior is so cute. Also, the lunch special is such a good deal. I got the taco lunch special ($15 dollars I think) which got me three tacos, rice and beans, and a soda. I got the cauliflower tacos and the vegan tacos which came with "soy meat". Both of them were really tasty but I think I preferred the vegan one more :) On other visits here, I usually get the enchiladas. They're pretty good, but one thing I noticed about it is that it's really salty every time I order it. Other than that, this place is great!! read more
