I've been very excited for this place to finally open up here in Folsom right in front of the Folsom outlets. I am a customer of Taco Exxpress already, I drove by this morning to grab a breakfast burrito and OMG it is very delicious. The bacon was cooked to perfection very crispy, the eggs were also cooked very well, and the potatoes and the cheese just made everything tie in together, very very delicious. I'm never disappointed in these guys they cooked to perfection. It's very convenient to have them here by the Folsom outlets because nothing can go wrong after having a good walk going to grab some tacos or burritos. This place is located in the old taco bell that was in the corner, I have been wanting to check it out for a while but we are not ever in that part of town very often. Well tonight I was hungry and wanted to try a new spot. They have a drive through, but I wanted to go in and order so I could get some chips and salsa to start to evaluate how this place was. If you ever start to feel nostalgic for what a taco bell looked like in the 90's then this is the place, the inside is still decorated for the most part in the old taco bell colors with the old tables and chairs (I thought it was cool) the inside was well lit, and very clean. To start they have 4 options pico de gallo, green salsa (mild), a orangey looking salsa (hot) and a darker red (diablo) So we tried all of them. Starting off with the Pico, it was decent, wasn't liquidly like some places, I guess you could of called it dryish. Flavor wise, you could taste the tomato and onion, IMO it could of used some salt, but over all it was decent. Moving on to the green salsa, this one was delicious, good flavor, a little bit of heat. nothing to warm your mouth up over, just a little bit to add to the overall flavor. The hot was good also, it has a creeping heat, that starts to build up over time, but nothing that would require you to stop and drink some water. The diablo, was ok. But if you are looking for some heat, then this is it. same creeping heat that builds up over time. But its good for people that want it hot, but it wasn't so hot that you couldn't taste the flavor of the actual sauce. Now on to the food. we ordered a couple of enchilada plates, a wet burrito, and some crunchy chicken tacos. The service was friendly and our food came out pretty quickly. You can tell they are making it fresh as you order, so that is a big bonus. I saw a fajita plate go out while we waited and it looked killer. When we got our order we left, but decided to eat the crispy chicken tacos in the car before they got soggy. The tacos were good, lots of shredded lettuce and cheese on top of some nicely flavored chicken, the shells were crunchy, and over all I would give them a solid 8 out of 10 When we got home it was time to try everything else. the overall feeling for the enchiladas was positive from the family members that ordered it. we had chicken and cheese plates, The sauce itself had good flavor and the rice and beans were equally as good. My wifes go to is the cheese enchilada, its kinda how to judges a place on how well they make it (we have had some pretty pathetic ones in the past) She said they were really good and also liked the sauce. Cheese was melted and there was a good amount of it inside them. I got the wet burrito with carne asada, it was pretty good also. The meat was chopped up really fine and seemed to mix in with the beans, so it almost felt like a chili burrito. it had the same enchilada sauce on the top, with some sour cream, and some guacamole on the side Everybody liked the food, and we will probably come back to try the fajitas, and I also want to try the tortas. read more

The items we tried ranged from pretty good to "not eating that again". We had birria tacos, crispy chicken tacos, asada and carnita street tacos, asada super burrito, and the filled churros. Food rated 4 and above were birria tacos and the filled churros. These were pretty good! Other items I would eat again were street crispy chicken tacos, carne asada and carnita tacos, and carne asada super burrito. Do not eat the beef crispy taco... absolutely no flavor! The refried beans are good and the rice isn't bad. Service was good (very nice people). Ambiance is very fast food like (old Taco Bell). In summary, eating the filled churros is a must, other mentioned items are okay, but do not order the crispy beef tacos. I forgot to mention the chip/salsa bar. This used to be Taco Bell across from the Folsom Outlets. I stopped by Wednesday night at 7:30 pm and ordered a Carne Asada burrito and rolled tacos. I was very unsatisfied. The rolled tacos were over fried and almost burnt, the guacamole on them was thin and browning, more like a sauce than a guacamole. The burrito was large, that's the best that I can say about it. The meat was so salty that it killed any taste, the beans were not flavorful, and the guacamole again was very poor. Usually I will try a place twice before I say no more, but this will be my last trip to Taco Express in Folsom. I ordered 7 street tacos for 2 kids and 1 adult thinking that they must be very large for $4.50 each, they were not. The tacos are the same size you get at a taco truck for $2.00. I was very surprised and warmed something else up for myself. I did get to try them however and they tasted just like a taco. read more

I recently tried Taco Exxpress in Folsom that replaced the Taco Bell by the Century Theatres. I absolutely love their crunchy chicken tacos. The chicken is tender and well seasoned/marinated and they are generous with the cheese. Also love the hot sauce that comes in the little cups on the side. So this place replaced a Taco Bell. It's pretty good for us. We've had the al pastor and carne asada soft tacos, crunchy chicken tacos and pizole. We found the carne asada didn't have much flavor and was a bit dry. The rest was all very good. My wife raved about the pizole and the portion size. If you compare the pricing to Taco Bell they are definitely more expensive. That being said, the quality and portion of the food items is definitely better than Taco Bell. Other than the one carne asada soft taco we have yet to be disappointed. read more

Probally my favorite drive thru Mexican restaurant. I prefer it over adelbertos. I live in orangevale and I'm more than willing to drive here than down the street. They have Chile verde and Al pastor the other places don't. They have better pricing and they even kept the original Taco Bell inside of the building. The food is way better than the other places in the area. Better burritos than the other places. read more

This location sucks, they have really poor communication not just with their customers, but also amongst themselves. Some of them have no idea what their new menu items come with or the prices, which like I understand that it's new, but I was quoted that my item came with rice & beans & then was handed a bag with my item a la carte & told that the rice & beans were separate. I saw the restaurant had changed, but still offered Mexican food and a drive through, so I tried it out - very good food, much better than Taco Bell in my opinion. Saw the reviews and wanted to give this place a chance. Absolutely one of the worst taqueria's I've ever eaten at. Ordered #5 taco/cheese enchilada plate. Food was EXTRA salty, and the cheese in the enchilada wasn't melted. Imagine cold three cheese Mexican blend from the grocery store rolled up in a tortilla and slapped on a plate with warm enchilada sauce over top. Carne asada fries were bland and the meat wasn't grilled properly, looked grey instead of brown. I typically like to support any business and don't give negative reviews, but I would be doing my community a disservice without providing honest feedback.
