Came here for brunch with the girls, and I want to say that the Matchita Riddim is SO good! It's not your typical matcha latte; no, it's a yummy tropical dessert that tastes like maraschino cherries. The breakfast panito is also delicious and filling; the chipotle sauce that comes with it takes it to the next level. Everything was so deliciously flavorful. It's not very easy to find seating even though they have indoor and outdoor seating. I was so excited to try this place, but now I do not understand the hype. Waited 45 minutes, my burrito was cold by the time my coffee came out. The burrito was super greasy, pretty flavorless other than how burnt the bacon was; that's all I could taste. The blonde woman at the counter with the half shaved head was really friendly and was moving so fast getting stuff done between orders. I've been a barista before and I definitely saw her work ethic. The green haired girl making coffee on the other hand... no sense of urgency in the middle of a rush. Sociology is one of a few specialty coffee shops in downtown Folsom and is located by the Lake Natoma Inn. I've enjoyed their specialty espresso drinks, but their service has been inconsistent. I finally made it on a early morning to rock at society. I went in for the house made pop-tart and renown drummer signature drink, "the Mike Johnston Matcha". Unfortunately the pop-tarts were sold out and I ended up just getting an oat matcha but still had a cozy time on a cold rainy day in April. Service was rad, the new gal on cash was slaying. First of all: they don't have a phone!!!!! And I confirmed that when I got there! I wanted to call in an order because I wanted to have it done by a certain time - which you can't do it on their online platform. Getting there I was helped by this girl who clearly didn't want to be there. She was coughing and coughing behind the counter. Super gross and unsanitary. Visited Sociology Coffee Bar in Folsom last Sunday after church around 10:15 AM, and overall it was an enjoyable experience. It's a cute little coffee spot with a fun vibe and great music (Drake was playing!), although seating inside is very limited. There are a few outdoor seats as well. I ordered the Chef's Bowl, and because I love rice, they were kind enough to add an extra scoop of rice along with the potatoes, which I really appreciated. I had asked for the bacon to be removed, but unfortunately it was still included, and there was a lot of it in the bowl. I spent most of the meal picking it out, which definitely took away from the experience a bit, but the dish itself was still delicious. I also noticed the presentation was different from what I expected. My graham vanilla bourbon latte was missing the cookie, and the drink came in a plastic cup instead of the tall glass I'd had on previous visits. My food also came in a little to-go carton instead of plated presentation. Has the place moved away from using plates and glassware? If so, what a pity, presentation really does make a difference, especially for such a cute café atmosphere. One thing I found interesting is that despite being only a few feet away from Karen's Bakery, Sociology still had a steady line of people waiting for coffee and food, which says a lot about how popular it is. The drink leaned much more on the bitter side than I expected. I also tried the Avocad-OMG toast. It was a very small and simple slice of toast topped with avocado--no egg or additional toppings. For $13.50, it felt pretty underwhelming in size and presentation. Location & Parking: Parking and locating the shop were both a bit tricky. The front side of the building doesn't have street parking directly in front--only across a busy street. The back side of the building sits on a lower level, so you have to go up to the 3rd level using stairs or an elevator to reach the café. My GPS initially brought me to the backside near other businesses, and there were no signs or directions pointing to the coffee shop, which made it confusing to find. Ambiance: Inside, the shop has an intimate and cozy feel. A few groups were dining in and chatting, giving it a relaxed vibe for a weekday morning. Service: The cashier/barista was very friendly and took my order right away. My drink and food were prepared quickly, which I appreciated since I was on a schedule. Overall: I was in the area for an appointment and decided to try something new. While the service was great, the drink and food didn't quite hit the mark for me, and the parking/location challenges were a downside. The directions to this coffee shop using Waze took us to a lower level parking lot. Sociology is street level so wet has to go up a couple flights of stairs. I love stopping into Sociology when I'm in Folsom. It's in a cute spot and is a very popular coffee shop, as you'll see from the people hanging out and the amount of people stopping in. They have a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating and it's a very chill place to hang out. Their menu options are very fun and unique. There are food and beverage options and while I've only purchased drinks, the food looks great too. Definitely check out their house made syrup options- this is where you can try something really unique and customize your drink a bit for something fun. You can also order off the menu and keep it simple and classic, or find something fun. read more

Such a cute and trendy little coffee spot near downtown Folsom! I popped in on a Sunday afternoon after paddle boarding at Black Miners Bar and grabbed the Teddy Graham latte and the Kokonut Karma. Since I signed up for their mailing list, I got a BOGO coupon, but the Kokonut Karma still ran me about $12. The Teddy Graham was solid--sweet and cozy but nothing too crazy, probably a 6/10. The Kokonut Karma, though, totally caught me off guard. It barely tasted like coffee and was super tropical with the pineapple, coconut cream, and lime. Honestly, I wasn't sure if I was drinking coffee or tea, but it was still really yummy and refreshing. Just a heads up, the summer specials are a little pricey. I've had this place bookmarked on my Yelp for awhile. I took advantage of being in the area for the Folsom Farmers Market to check this place out. I was pleasantly surprised to see the menu offering alcoholic beverages. Because it was early in the morning and I didn't want anything like that, I opted for a matcha with oat milk. This tasted great! If I didn't eat already, I would have ordered something. I have been wanting to try this place since it came up on my instagram, let me just say the food you see on instagram vs what they serve is not the same at all. We stood in line there was a blonde girl really young who was taking orders no hello not a I will be right with you her and some girl with black hair and short bangs were busy talking to each other about their breaks with no acknowledgment we were there right in front of them at the counter. After the girls were done talking one chose their own food and walked away. The black haired girl finally took our order, keep in mind the other girl had tried taking our order of course after she got done talking and basically picking out her pastry and the black haired girl said no she would take our order which she still took her time in doing. I asked if they had sugar free options she said no they make everything at home so not an option ok. We placed an order for a Bourbon Vanilla iced Latte and a plain Iced coffee. The panic that went through me when I saw this girl pull out a thermos and pour my husband's iced coffee into his cup was unreal. My drink came out and it was nothing special tasted more like cinnamon than vanilla. Their Burrito was decent but not something to be extremely thrilled over. I asked if they sold their Cypher sauce because on their instagram they said come try it out and placed in what looked like glass bottles. When I asked if they sold it they said it was misinformation from social media and that they don't sale it, ok but it was their own social media post. If you are looking for overpriced coffee with very minimal flavor I guess this would be the place to go. I came here because it was a meeting point for a local event. As another reviewer mentioned, there is no phone number to contact the actual coffeehouse. My matcha latte took over 40 minutes to make after I stood in line and placed my order, because their staff were prioritizing making drinks that had been placed in the mobile app by other people, after my in person order. I was recommended this spot by another business when I mentioned I was craving coffee. I love how detailed the menu is and how customizable everything is. I ended up ordering the iced Tesora. It had cinnamon, honey, and vanilla. I was obsessed. It wasn't too strong but also wasn't too sweet. I also got their chicken pesto panito (like a panini and burrito). The pesto was super flavorful, and it came with a tangy sauce which I loved. There's a good amount of seating with some outdoor seating as well. Also great music! Stopped by for the first time after going to the Folsom farmers market. We got ice Matcha lattes with their homemade syrup. These were absolutely fantastic. I've tried a lot of Matcha in the area and this stands to be in our top five. There were lots of people in the coffee shop having breakfast or working. I think this would be a great place if you wanted to get out of the house while working from home. It's a cozy café that probably comfortably fits about 20 people. Cool spot in old town Folsom it's pretty busy but they have indoor and outdoor seating. We tried the iced Tesoro, Loco Moco burrito and a Chef's bowl.
