Visited Sociology Coffee Bar in Folsom last Sunday after church around 10:15 AM, and overall it was an enjoyable experience. It's a cute little coffee spot with a fun vibe and great music (Drake was playing!), although seating inside is very limited. There are a few outdoor seats as well. I ordered the Chef's Bowl, and because I love rice, they were kind enough to add an extra scoop of rice along with the potatoes, which I really appreciated. I had asked for the bacon to be removed, but unfortunately it was still included, and there was a lot of it in the bowl. I spent most of the meal picking it out, which definitely took away from the experience a bit, but the dish itself was still delicious. I also noticed the presentation was different from what I expected. My graham vanilla bourbon latte was missing the cookie, and the drink came in a plastic cup instead of the tall glass I'd had on previous visits. My food also came in a little to-go carton instead of plated presentation. Has the place moved away from using plates and glassware? If so, what a pity, presentation really does make a difference, especially for such a cute café atmosphere. One thing I found interesting is that despite being only a few feet away from Karen's Bakery, Sociology still had a steady line of people waiting for coffee and food, which says a lot about how popular it is. I'd definitely like to try it again on a weekday and hope my latte will be in a glassware and my Chef's bowl does not have bacon! read more

I was so excited to try this place, but now I do not understand the hype. Waited 45 minutes, my burrito was cold by the time my coffee came out. The burrito was super greasy, pretty flavorless other than how burnt the bacon was; that's all I could taste. The blonde woman at the counter with the half shaved head was really friendly and was moving so fast getting stuff done between orders. I've been a barista before and I definitely saw her work ethic. The green haired girl making coffee on the other hand... no sense of urgency in the middle of a rush. She got distracted by a customer she knew talking to her and held my coffee hostage taking forever to finish it because she was talking. I finally made it on a early morning to rock at society. I went in for the house made pop-tart and renown drummer signature drink, "the Mike Johnston Matcha". Unfortunately the pop-tarts were sold out and I ended up just getting an oat matcha but still had a cozy time on a cold rainy day in April. Service was rad, the new gal on cash was slaying. Barista was friendly and being an owner of a rocket espresso machine, their large rocket machine is pretty sweet too! The directions to this coffee shop using Waze took us to a lower level parking lot. Sociology is street level so wet has to go up a couple flights of stairs. First of all: they don't have a phone!!!!! And I confirmed that when I got there! I wanted to call in an order because I wanted to have it done by a certain time - which you can't do it on their online platform. Getting there I was helped by this girl who clearly didn't want to be there. She was coughing and coughing behind the counter. Super gross and unsanitary. The barista guy was nice and I left a tip because of him mostly. Cute place - I ordered 13 coffees and it took forever to be done. I really wanted to like this place. But I can't back it up. The drink leaned much more on the bitter side than I expected. I also tried the Avocad-OMG toast. It was a very small and simple slice of toast topped with avocado--no egg or additional toppings. For $13.50, it felt pretty underwhelming in size and presentation. Location & Parking: Parking and locating the shop were both a bit tricky. The front side of the building doesn't have street parking directly in front--only across a busy street. The back side of the building sits on a lower level, so you have to go up to the 3rd level using stairs or an elevator to reach the café. My GPS initially brought me to the backside near other businesses, and there were no signs or directions pointing to the coffee shop, which made it confusing to find. Ambiance: Inside, the shop has an intimate and cozy feel. A few groups were dining in and chatting, giving it a relaxed vibe for a weekday morning. Service: The cashier/barista was very friendly and took my order right away. My drink and food were prepared quickly, which I appreciated since I was on a schedule. Overall: I was in the area for an appointment and decided to try something new. While the service was great, the drink and food didn't quite hit the mark for me, and the parking/location challenges were a downside. I came here because it was a meeting point for a local event. As another reviewer mentioned, there is no phone number to contact the actual coffeehouse. My matcha latte took over 40 minutes to make after I stood in line and placed my order, because their staff were prioritizing making drinks that had been placed in the mobile app by other people, after my in person order. I've had this place bookmarked on my Yelp for awhile. I took advantage of being in the area for the Folsom Farmers Market to check this place out. I was pleasantly surprised to see the menu offering alcoholic beverages. Because it was early in the morning and I didn't want anything like that, I opted for a matcha with oat milk. This tasted great! If I didn't eat already, I would have ordered something. The people who placed a food order and drink order got a breakfast burrito and after looking at it, I am envious that I didn't get one. That's okay, it is my excuse to go next time. I love stopping into Sociology when I'm in Folsom. It's in a cute spot and is a very popular coffee shop, as you'll see from the people hanging out and the amount of people stopping in. They have a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating and it's a very chill place to hang out. Their menu options are very fun and unique. There are food and beverage options and while I've only purchased drinks, the food looks great too. Definitely check out their house made syrup options- this is where you can try something really unique and customize your drink a bit for something fun. You can also order off the menu and keep it simple and classic, or find something fun. read more

Such a cute and trendy little coffee spot near downtown Folsom! I popped in on a Sunday afternoon after paddle boarding at Black Miners Bar and grabbed the Teddy Graham latte and the Kokonut Karma. Since I signed up for their mailing list, I got a BOGO coupon, but the Kokonut Karma still ran me about $12. The Teddy Graham was solid--sweet and cozy but nothing too crazy, probably a 6/10. The Kokonut Karma, though, totally caught me off guard. It barely tasted like coffee and was super tropical with the pineapple, coconut cream, and lime. Honestly, I wasn't sure if I was drinking coffee or tea, but it was still really yummy and refreshing. Just a heads up, the summer specials are a little pricey. I ordered a carmel latte on a hot day and didn't realize I needed to ask for it iced if I wanted ice it completely slipped my mind. so when I got my drink it was hot I apologized and said I forgot to ask for it iced if they would re make it. I get it this was my fault, but I did pre tip on my card and it was just such an uncomfortable interaction because the barista just kinda acted like, well that's what you ordered. Again I can take accountability and I apologized but seriously I forgot, I tipped you on an already $8 drink that probably costs you $2 to remake on a drink I theoretically don't want. Such a fun vibe here! Located at the corner end of a 3 story shopping lot, this spot was hard to find depending on which way you take. I was recommended this spot by another business when I mentioned I was craving coffee. I love how detailed the menu is and how customizable everything is. I ended up ordering the iced Tesora. It had cinnamon, honey, and vanilla. I was obsessed. It wasn't too strong but also wasn't too sweet. I also got their chicken pesto panito (like a panini and burrito). The pesto was super flavorful, and it came with a tangy sauce which I loved. There's a good amount of seating with some outdoor seating as well. Also great music! Stopped by for the first time after going to the Folsom farmers market. We got ice Matcha lattes with their homemade syrup. These were absolutely fantastic. I've tried a lot of Matcha in the area and this stands to be in our top five. There were lots of people in the coffee shop having breakfast or working. I think this would be a great place if you wanted to get out of the house while working from home. It's a cozy café that probably comfortably fits about 20 people. Go-to coffee spot in Old Folsom because they serve great coffee/matcha and food. It's definitely on the pricey side however. I am gluten free and appreciate the options they offer. I have gotten the rice bowl and potato bowl which are probably the best bang for your buck (although I wish the rice to substance ratio was more equal) and the breakfast tacos. I have seen this place on Social Media and I even had a do worker mention it to me and I was excited to check it out. There is no parking lot for it so you have to park on the street or in the 2 hours max spaces around the back of the building it's part of. We were immediately greeted upon entering by a friendly face. We learned that there are no sugar free flavors and they only have oat as their alternative milk. Pay attention to the descriptions as some drinks are seasonal and some ONLY come iced. The inside is fairly small with limited seating but it's very funky and colorful. They have some cool mixology tools and mixes which is really different for a coffee shop but really interesting. I tried the teddy graham which basically tasted exactly like a smores! It came with a tiny strip waffle on top, so CUTE. Some of the flavors are really interesting and I will be back to try their manhattan spice coffee. read more

This place was a little hard to find but it was tucked away. I added a reference to Folsom Kitchen and Bath to follow right down that direction the arrow is pointing. Pros: - delicious blueberry muffin, crunchy at the top and super soft in the inside - good chai latte - good amount of tables to work at Cons: - no wifi (last time I checked) - their matcha latte. If I were to close my eyes, I'd never guess i was drinking a matcha. It tastes like an artificial baked good of some sort. I had to double check my receipt that I ordered the right thing. A vendor from the Historic Folsom Farmers Market recommended trying their breakfast. Hubby raves about their coffee, so we knew we had to stop by! They have both indoor and outdoor seating available, we sat outside since we brought our puppy Midnight with us. To drink I ordered a Hot Cocoa. I have never seen hot chocolate art, love the sweet hearts! It was rich and chocolatey! For breakfast hubby and I both ordered the Breakfast Panito. A breakfast burrito and panini in one, so unique how the egg is on the outside! Very good and packed full with mouthwatering bacon, potatoes and jack cheese! I didn't care for the spicy dipping sauce it came with, but honestly you don't need it! Next time you're in Old Historic Folsom check out this coffee bar/roaster that's been in business since 2020!
