I wanted to give this place 5 stars because it's a great discovery for us. We'e been there twice now, and the first time, we were blown away. This time was good too, but I have to be honest, they blew it with my carne asada. I asked for the steak medium well, and it was rare, or close to it. I think most people would have sent it back. I know they would have taken care of me if I'd sent it back, but I don't mind it rare. Rare just wasn't my preference this evening. On the plus side, the food quality and presentation are way above what I would have expected at a place like this. The price is reasonable, and the service is very very friendly. This place serves some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. I was happy to hear they're expanding, with more seating. This place deserves all the success they seem to be having. Wow - we were really blown away by the good food in this place. We went camping in the Sugar Grove area on a weekend, and decided to give this place a try for dinner on Saturday. It is a small unassuming diner-like place where you order at the register. The service is very friendly and nice. Hubby ordered the veggie enchilada dinner and I ordered the grilled vegetable salad. We were served complimentary chips and warm salsa. We couldn't stop eating it - it was so freaking good! The food was served, and we were really surprised by the presentation - very good, fitting for a white table cloth restaurant - not what I was expecting here. Solid three stars. Five being Bîen Trucha in Geneva. Good food. The restaurant is basically a good traditional mexican restaurant with an attempt at being trendy. The atmosphere is a bit gloomy, but the staff is super nice. I'd give them four stars if their salsas were much better. They aren't spicy at all and a bit on the bland side. Oh my goodness, Taco Madre is my FAVORITE authentic Mexican restaurant near my house! My favorite thing to get on the menu is the Cheesy Nachos from the appetizer menu and add Steak! Super cheap and it's a whole lot of food! I can always get filled up of that platter. And when I'm feeling tacos or burritos I will still always go there too! They have amazing food but sometimes I get some of my food a little late from delivery but that's still no reason for me to not order from this delicious place! read more

The restaurant has completely revamped this menu- went there and place was empty at the dinner rush, red flag, and the prices have gone through the roof and options have been limited. We left- a basic burrito with rice and beans would've cost me almost $15. Many of the items were removed from the menu and it was very disappointing because taco Madre used to be our go to place at least once every couple weeks. We love coming to Taco Madre! We usually get tacos- we've tried ground beef, carnitas, and al pastor. My only complaint is that I had a large piece of fat in my carnitas taco. I know some fat is unavoidable, but this was a very large piece. When I removed it, there wasn't much meat left in my taco. One minor thing such as that won't stop me from enjoying their food. I had an al pastor burrito junior tonight. I wish I would have gotten the full size burrito, but that was my fault. Taco Madre has consistently great food that we enjoy very much. We ordered the 3 taco plate (shrimp, steak and chicken) each, street corn and guacamole. The chips and salsa was really good and so was the guacamole. I really enjoyed the shrimp and steak taco but I wasn't sold on the chicken (I prefer shredded chicken). The presentation was really good and the staff was very friendly. Terrible food, waste of money. This place used to have great food and good service but the quality has been going downhill for some time. Today our lunch was literally almost not edible. There food is just ok, the rice never tastes the same it sometimes has vegetables in it and sometimes doesn't. I don't think the beans are made in house they kind of taste canned but I could be wrong. Chownow doesn't have their menu correct so be aware of that if you order through them, I've noticed that the ticket and item is different from what I clicked on the chownow website. After living in the area for 4 years and driving by this place countless times, we finally decided to pull our heads out of our asses and gave this place a try. Now I am kicking myself for missing out on the tastiness that is Taco Madre. Holy cow. First of all, the service is great. We were greeted with a smile and the manager stopped by our table multiple times to make sure everything was good (and it was!). We ordered and sat down to some really tasty chips and salsa - nice, crispy chips with a really yummy seasoning on them and warm salsa with fire roasted tomatoes and peppers. I'm not a huge chips and salsa fan, but I could eat these all day! Our tacos came and they too were fantastic. I had the carnitas and al pastor and both were excellent. Very solid rice and beans with some lovely little sauces to accompany everything. This has been my family's go to taco spot for the last few years. It had been about two months since we last ate there and we wanted some of their warm salsa and chips! Was looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant after moving to the area so I searched Yelp. It is a gem. I went with one of the daily drink specials, the Paloma...Tequila, Sprite, and lime with salt. It was delicious. Got the horchata which was great but also loved the pina colada! We were served promptly, the food was super fresh. The salsa was warm and not too spicy. Started off with guacamole+chips which was great. I got the chicken enchilada dinner and the chicken was really moist unlike other places. The rice was awesome with bits of vegetables in it. The friend got steak tacos and the steak was cooked perfectly. A side of guacamole to start with which was very fresh as well. The waitress was very friendly as was the manager who came to check on us too. The downfall? It has a small eating area, and too much noise from customers, cooks, along with music and tv. It is too small of space. Also the cooks were busy cooking fresh in the back and we could barely keep our eyes open so we can only assume it was because of the fresh cut onions. ??? We were ok halfway through, but at first couldn't stop laughing about it. The slot machines on the side lessen the class and it also would have been great to have outdoor seating...
