I have heard great reviews for Taco Mama for years. My wife and I have wanted to try it, but we've never been able to get there when they are open. Today the stars finally aligned and oh how I wish they hadn't. My wife already had a menu and she read it to me as I drove. The steak taco had the ingredients to make for a great taco. I was looking forward to my meal. Our meal arrived, and the first bite was my first disappointment, followed by my second bite and third bite. There's an old Hardee's commercial that would have been appropriate. "Where's the beef?" The tacos each had two slivers of meat and one sliver of caramelized onion and a lot of iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. There was zero flavor to the meat. This was the most disappointing Mexican cuisine experience of my life. I had a cucumber margarita, which was good, but was 90% ice and a very small amount of drink. My wife's beef taco was alright, though lacking flavor. Her shrimp taco had no flavor and very little shrimp. The prices aren't worth the paltry servings and poor quality of food with zero flavor. read more

Decent tacos, pretty good queso...I get that this is a cool, vibrant place - I just find the experience and flavor lacking. From the LOUD music to constant large groups who take up the majority of seating, it's hard to have a conversation or really even hear the person you are with. Some will like the gypsy-Mexican vibe of the decor, too. But, the food? What this place is really supposed to be known for? Meh, it's okay. Overpriced for what you get, the braised meats are fantastically sloppy (and not in a good way), steak items were a toss-up between great (early in the day) and mediocre (in the evening). The salsas and sauces have been "okay," nothing terrible but nothing to make one think, "Can I get the recipe for that?!!" I do, however, plan on coming back in to sample their margarita selection. Plenty of folks will enjoy this place for the ambience alone...but I'm not one of those people. I see myself heading here once every few months, honestly. read more

This was our first visit and we were so happy. As we were walking in we were immediately greeted by a very sweet and bubbly staff member that gave us the breakdown of the menu and walked us through how things work there. (So much better than feeling awkward) after she explained the menu to us we walked up the the counter and ordered our food. I got a salad and my daughter got the grilled shrimp tacos. All sauces and add one are free. So we both got exactly what we wanted without breaking the bank. Once we ordered they gave us our number and we grabbed our drinks and sat down at a table. Our food came out so fast, and was fresh and delicious. The jalapeño lime dressing was my favorite! We will absolutely be back. Delicious food, great staff, all around a great experience. read more

Love the concept. Pick your meat, weather you will have a burrito, tacos, or taco bowl..... then pick unlimited toppings which include quac and queso at no extra charge. My burrito was massive and my wife got the bowl which she loved. Also comes with a side and chips. Queso and quac as a side!!!! Included!!!! Mind blown. Ordering takes a little longer as there are a lot of choices and sauces, but worth the wait. They also serve margaritas and beer! This place is gonna be around a long time... especially right across from Cammies old Dutch for dessert! The steak was amazing! read more

Had to try and we weren't to impressed. I ordered the tacos and she ordered the burrito. When mine arrived I thought it was an app, smaller than usual size for tacos and only 2, the burrito was about the same. We were underwhelmed but all the flavors. Service was very good but we tried it is all I can say. We do wish them good luck in the future read more

I absolutely love this place! I can't say enough about it. I have visited a couple times now and each time has been fantastic! First, the atmosphere is just great, you can sit inside, but with an outside feel. You can order curbside (and get margaritas to go too! who knew?) The first time I ordered from here, I got The Mayor Taco Basket with their cilantro lime rice. This taco is en pointe!! The toppings are fresh, the queso fresco is oh so yummy, the chicken is seasoned and marinated perfectly. The chips are light and airy and salsa is fresh and very tasty. You know what also goes well? A mercedes margarita! wow! The judge burrito is what i ate next time I went and it was so good. I couldn't eat all of it and had to take part of it home. The line was long as this was their third day open, but after ordering the food came very quickly to our table. The wife and I built our own bowl with both of us having the barbacoa beef with our choice of toppings, and chips with cheese dip. The portions were plentiful and we enjoyed everything. The staff did a good job of keeping up with the crowd. The only thing that was a little slow was the bar service, but for the size of the crowd, it really wasn't too long of a wait. I just prefer to have my drinks before the food lol. Although the concept is similar to Chipotle, they offer a bit more variety and serve alcohol. The atmosphere was nice as they had two sides of the dining area open to the outside (roll up doors) and a covered area on one of the sides. We will definitely be back for more. My only complaint was that the food wasn't very hot temperature wise, just barely warm. As quickly as it came to the table you would think it would be piping hot, but that is why my rating is 4 stars. I hope next visit I can change it to 5 stars. read more

The food was hot and tasty. The ambiance reminded me of the tourist trap restaurants at the cruise ports in Mexico which is not necessarily a bad thing. Portions were more than ample for lunch. The salsa, pico. And guacamole were flavorful. Had I known it was an "open air" type restaurant I probably wouldn't have gone- especially on a windy day. Nothing like the wind blowing your hair into your mouth with every bite. Also the humidity turned the chips into a soft stale mess within 15 minutes. I ordered the ahi tacos they were super salty over cooked and just not good the salsa was watered down and over all just really disappointing :( I was expecting a lot more from this place. I retried this place to give it another chance and it was so much better it seems like they've sorted out their kinks. I got build your own machines and they were awesome. Went there for date night Saturday and loved it. Line was long but you can drink margaritas while you stand in line and a waiter comes and waits on you while you're standing there. The margaritas were really good and the fish tacos I got were amazing. I can't wait to go back and try more stuff on the menu. Definitely a place you should try if you're in the area. read more

Not really authentic but still ok. I would classify this place as a typical chain restaurant or even basic white girl Mexican food. The group I was with wanted to eat here so this is what I thought. It was very loud, trying to order and understand the cashiers' responses was difficult. Ordered the Justice is Served combo with then - elote corn as the side, which now seems off the menu. Ok fried fish tacos, should be a easy win. It was just ok, the fish was over cooked and tough, the ancho coleslaw and poblano tarter made the taco soggy. The "elote" corn was canned corn with spices mixed in and a sprinkle of cotija cheese - meh. Their salsa was disappointing and lacking in flavor, the queso and guacamole were ok One of my friends said the grilled shrimp tacos were very good - bwg to the core lol I guess if I go again maybe I'll start with a drink or 3 and maybe that will make everything better. Taco Mama is a vibe. It's a friendly, small environment with indoor and outdoor seating. The line can be out the door during peak times as you wait to place your order before you sit. The margarita choices are fun and refreshing. The taco, burrito, and bowl choices have such a great variety to build your own or order the regular menu options. I've gotten the chicken mayor a couple times and really enjoyed it. You may get more chips than salsa so adding an extra salsa/guac/queso may be necessary! read more

Awesome margarita's, guac had WAY too much cumin, the staff offered plain avocado and that was fine. I had the barbacoa taco plate and actually took my taco home, as I don't like to waste. When I went to reheat the meat, to my dismay the piece of meat was no bigger than my middle finger, I kid you not. The plus side is the open, airy and festive atmosphere. The down side is I didn't feel like it was anything special, food wise, it was "meh". My first visit to Taco Mama was fine. I'm not a huge fan of places where I have to stand in line, wait for my food and then my waitress just refills my drinks, but I had only ordered from Taco Mama to go previously. There's no spacing between individuals in line due to COVID. But the food was great, the wait staff was pleasant and although it was an expensive burrito, I enjoyed my visit and will be back. read more

Tried this on a rainy day with family. All got a variety of tacos. Fish taco was good. Fish was moist cabbage fresh. No spice. The steak taco had good flavor however lots of gristle, ground beef tacos made everyone hit the bathroom when we got home. Place needs some organization. Just a loud Taco Bell. I was told by friends that the food here was really good and authentic Mexican. Nowhere near authentic Mexican and the soft taco I was served tasted exactly like Taco Bell. I'm glad we arrived early because by the time we left, it was packed. A mob of people all clad in yellow were circling our table while making loud comments about how they were going to sit there once we finished eating. The food was really just ok. I tried the Mexican mac and cheese that had too much of a velveeta taste to it. The salsa tasted slightly off, like tomatoes that have gone to vinegar and the guacamole was way too salty. My tacos were also just okay. The beef was seasoned but dry. I am surprised at the glowing reviews. I guess part of the appeal is the bohemian decor, great location and full bar.
