Someone tried to rob me here last Friday night. The "security" at this location let a homeless person in and they tried to grab my wallet which was in front of me on a table under my order number and sprint out the door. Security watched as I got up and tackled the would be robber to the ground and wrenched my wallet out of his hands and came back into the restaurant. Security did not detain him, tried to take credit for the takedown, and all I got for my troubles was a free drink and an injury. I've been requesting the camera footage of the incident for DAYS now as I aggravated a medical condition in the takedown (I had been in the hospital earlier that day getting a procedure) and I need evidence to submit to my insurance. Taco Maya staff has given me the runaround and lied to me every day since Friday saying that there is no manager on duty, that only corporate can give me this information & they'll call me, and also that there IS no corporate number. Avoid this restaurant and this company. They do not care about your safety, your health, nor do they care about providing quality food. read more

Review: Taco Maya (Chicagoland Area) I recently tried Taco Maya, a local chain, and unfortunately the food did not meet expectations. I ordered the beef steak burrito and the al pastor burrito. Both lacked authentic flavor--the steak was bland and not true carne asada, while the al pastor had an odd, unpleasant taste. The burritos are grilled on the outside, which didn't improve the experience. The salsa bar looked promising, but the hot jalapeño salsa and habanero salsa were disappointing. One had unusual flavors that didn't work, and the other tasted more like canned tomato sauce than fresh habanero. On the positive side, the staff were friendly, the to-go packaging was well presented, and they do serve alcohol. However, overall, the food quality just wasn't there, and I wouldn't recommend Taco Maya for anyone looking for authentic or flavorful Mexican food. I would give zero stars if I could read more

On January 11th, closer to midnight, I ordered the paneer taco, shrimp and chorizo taco and the chicken tamale. I saved the shrimp taco and ate the other food at the restaurant, which was tasty. HOWEVER, I got food poisoning and my friend, who also had the paneer taco and tamale, suffered the same fate. I am giving them two stars because the food was good but unfortunately I had to board a plane the next day in pain and discomfort. I would not wish this on my worst enemy! I visited the Taco Maya a month ago to treat my special friend, and I must say everything was great. Food is excellent like my shrimp tacos. Drinks are so yummy and the staff is really nice and polite. However, a lot of people started to fill in a little bit before 8 PM, and my friend and I had to leave because we couldn't hear each other afterward. Would definitely go back for more tacos and some good tunes. read more

AMAZING!! for starters me and my partner got esquites - wonderfully creamy with a nice mayo and cheesy flavor and the most perfectly sweet corn - and spicy tuna tostadas - came on a crispy sesame cracker with a decadent pile of guacamole, fresh tuna, crispy onions and greens, an explosion of flavor. as the main dish we had the playa pescado tacos. let me tell you!! these are the best tacos i've ever had!!! a tortilla that soaked up all the juices without ripping or anything. the white fish was an impeccable balance between crispy and tender, with so much juicy flavor. the slaw and chipotle mayo, especially in combination with any of the supreme salsas was the perfect amount of slightly spicy kick. came with three hefty tacos - we really had to take our time but we were each able to finish all three. boy was it worth it. i have never experienced something so flavorful. the bathrooms were very cute with floor to ceiling doors, for privacy. thank god because you will probably need to be in there after your meal. beans the magical fruit if u know what i mean. the only problem with this place is some of the tables are way too small for the amount of food you will want to get. we were initially seated at a tiny table and asked to move. a table that i guess was meant for 4 was still filled up by the dishes we got for 2 people. basically, momento is THE MOMENT and i would happily recommend to anyone in the loop in Chicago.

Tacos are 5-6 dollars each, and I chose a crunchy boy original ground beef taco. After ordering I was informed that it would be 20 minutes (no one else in line-but this isn't fast food.). I could have ordered for pickup but this was a last minute swing in due to hunger. Happy hour 3-5 with margaritas and nachitos offered. Space is nice and restaurant like. Not fast food. Suggested minimum tip is 18% which feels like a lot when waiting for pickup. Given the meal disrupted my plans, I wanted to dislike the food. To be fair, this isn't Taco Bell. The Crunchy Tall boy was excellent. The meat clearly recognizable and ok, it was excellent. The sauces, and two came with the tall boy were spicy, fresh and unique. I got the drink flight, which I thought was such a fun way to try a few different drinks instead of having to commit to one. I tried the Spicy Margarita, Riverwalk Long Island, Sneaky Lemonade, and RumChata. I liked that they were all pretty different, so it made the flight fun to try. Between the river views and the variety of drinks, I'd definitely recommend Taco Rio if you're looking for a fun place to grab drinks and hang out, especially on a nice day!
