This place is great for what it is! If you're looking for a place that gives out complimentary chips and salsa with good enough Mexican food, then this is the spot for you. I had the Al Pastor, Carnitas, and Chixken Fajita tacos. My partner got the Al Pastor torta. No complaints on the food, which was good enough but not exceptional. The torta was enormous so you get a good amount of food for your investment. I enjoyed the salsa bar and appreciated that we got a free refill on the chips. I imagine this is a place I could visit about once a month, as I live in the area and there are not many other options for this quality of food in this price range. read more

Really good solid Mexican cuisine. Staff is very friendly and place is always clean. I deducted 1 star because they constantly mess up pick up orders. They do fix the problem without question and they are apologetic but who really wants to make 2 trips to get what you paid for? I go there about once per week and they miss items about 50% of the time.....very very frustrating! read more

Live nearby and go here when I need a taco fix. The chicken tinga is my favorite (ask for the sour cream on the side so it isn't too goopy). The ribeye taco on the special board is also fantastic but more pricey. I've been here a number of times. It is busier at lunch and service has always been great. Staff is friendly. They give you chips if you eat there but the chips are the one thing I've eaten there that I don't care for, they seem out of a bag and have a spice coating. Not going to remove a star for chips that are free but would live an upgrade there. read more

SO good! I got the 2 taco plate (Mexican style--you choose between Mexican style and American style) and it was amazing. It tastes authentic and the portion sizes are perfect! They don't skimp you on the meat and they are quick. I also love that they have a salsa bar so you can sample their different salsa and experiment with your tacos. I didn't catch the woman's name at the register but she was amazing and had great customer service. I loved the atmosphere overall! Can't wait to stop by again very soon! read more

First off I'm from a Texas family, been eating Mexican food in vast quantities all my life but have been living in Cincinnati where the Mexican food is just decent. Took a vacation to my favorite city of Chicago to eat a bunch of food and enjoy the atmosphere. This place delivers in amazing ways. A variety of salsas available and they all bring the taste. Not heavy on cilantro these salsas which is a good thing as some people taste soap when they have it. The heat levels were exactly where they needed to be, even the habanero salsa was super spicy but not cry my eyes out. I personally got the Chingon Burrito dinner plate and oh my goodness gracious was it a masterpiece. The textures in this thing were varied, you get a bit of chewy, crunchy, soft, mouthfeel alone was great. The heat was just the right level, spicy but not overwhelming. The two types of meat combined to heighten the experience, never competing. Now to the sides, I loved the presentation, I got refried beans and rice, the beans came in this cute little tortilla cup that you could scoop other chips into, very fun and you get to eat it whenever you're ready. I also decided to pick up a thing of chips and you never know what you'll get with tortilla chips nowadays. These ones surprised me in a good way. Each chip was crunchy and crisp, no accidental chewy chips in this mix, and they each were seasoned with this fantastic orange season which tasted very much like a seasoned salt with its own little mix. No chip was ever to heavily or lightly seasoned, even through out. I highly recommend this place and when I come back to Chicago I'm taking friends and family here. read more

Taco Madre was by far the biggest disappointment I've had. The menu looks amazing but the food was disgusting. I ordered online and picked it up ten minutes later, and the inside seemed really nice however there was a lingering smell of rancid cooking oil. This place is allegedly a Mexican restaurant, the cuisine by nature has some of the most flavorful and bold ingredients, which should overpower the smell but I guess not at Taco Madre. I was worried about how my food would taste from the minute I received my order from the cashier who was accompanied by a lady WHO DID NOT WEAR A HAT OR A HAIR NET, in the kitchen. I ordered a veggie burrito, simple fresh ingredients right? WRONG, the vegetables tasted literally rotten drenched in oil and it was to a point where the sourness and spoiled smell was so pungent I had thrown up even after I had spit out the first bite. I always give the benefit of doubt and never would I give anyone a 1-star, BUT if your food makes me throw up, I obviously believe it is important people know how careful they have to be when choosing restaurants. I also had churros, which did not have ANY CINNAMON on them which were undercooked at the same time. Hard to believe when considering all I tasted and smelled from my experience at this restaurant was oily. I recommend to try Flacos Tacos which is literally a block or two from this location. I honestly am so wrong to have chosen this place over my usual place for Mexican food, Flacos. This restaurant is the most fast and delicious food I have had in the Southloop area. As you enter there Servers Prachi & Khushali immediately greets you and offers you warm tortillas and salsa dip as your food is being freshly made. I called again 15 minutes later when our food still wasn't here and asked for a refund and to cancel the order. The manager promised to refund our order but said the food would still arrive.
